Joe, I want to thank you for bringing all these cars to us. It really helps when we need to buy new cars, so we can know the real experience. Great video as always
@@ML_1515probably quite good. These newer VW crossovers and SUVs can be pretty damn reliable if you stay on top of your routine maintenance and keep on top of the maintenance guidelines. A little more cost per year on average but worth it
I'm OK with the flat black only because I think it holds up better to those nicks from stones and other road material. I do love that blue color. Agree on the fake exhaust - so stupid. I test drove a vehicle almost exactly like this and really enjoyed the experience. Loved the digital dashboard. I'm just waiting till next year to trade in my car... Want to see the redesign on the Sante Fe.
it’s CORRECT to think that this bear has a VERY SMOOTH HEAD. You must be thinking, “does he use Head And Shoulders Shine Plus?” That would be incorrect. The answer is a bear TRADE secret. ... PACK YOUR BAGS AT ONCE!!!!!
I have the 2018 Atlas SE with Tech v6 (ASE) and I LOVE IT. Fully functional 3rd row that my 6'2" 280 lbs body fits very comfortably in. Lay the 3rd row down, behind the 2nd row, and I have 55.5 cu. ft. and the Cross Sport (CS) has 40.3 cu. ft. All of the seats folded down, I have 96.8 cu. ft. and the CS has 77.8 cu. ft. Granted I lose space with my 3rd row in the upright position of only 20.6 cu. ft. You also lose some interior cargo height in the CS due to the angled slope towards the back end. The interior head room is a bit less in the CS. Front head room is 39.4" in the CS and 41.3" in the ASE. Rear head room in the CS is 37.8" and 40.4" in the ASE. It's not meant to be sporty like the Audi, Mitsubishi, or any other SMALLER LIGHTER SUV. This vehicle has a gross weight of 5,842 (curb weight of 4,464 and the ASE is 6,019 (curb weight of 4,594). My V6 can garner about 365 to 380 miles on a full tank of gas city driving and I have hit 480 to 525 highway long distance and in ECO mode. It all comes down to how you drive and the conditions it's being driven in. Snow mode and off road are incredible. These are my own personal opinions and the numbers are from Edmunds & VW. I am in the process of obtaining either a 2023 Atlas SE with Tech or the whole remodeled 2024 later this summer.
Thanks Joe ... my wife was considering an Atlas a couple years back .... but ... she went with a different / smaller vehicle ... a Sub Forester Sport because of MPG, price ... when I drove the Atlas V6 the engine didn't really grab my attention ... it kinda sounded like the one you drove ... lol ... a little bit grainy/unrefined/out-of-breath... but having said that ... the Sub Forester is grainier and more unrefined ... If I were to buy this or the Honda Passport ... the Passport is a no-brainer ... reliability / maintenance costs / resale value / iVTM-4 (SH-AWD in Acura lingo) ... Keith Chicago IL
OK the Atlas Cross Sport V6 SE with Tech is in the driveway now. Passport looks goofy in comparison and has a timing belt engine. Driving yes the Hondas quicker but the Atlas is a work horse not a touring car, on my 3rd VW and just used to the shifter layout and manual mode.
Great work Joe keep up the great work. I had a suggestion, would you mind doing a review of the mammoth pickup track that is running wild and has people talking about it
I gotta say I got the Jeep in this comparison. After we found out we are expecting, I had to get rid of my Arteon for something bigger. I looked at the Atlas since I was use to the Volkswagen infotainment system but after messing around with the Jeep, I think I got more bang for my buck. The UConnect system is really intuitive, the Alpine speaker system sounds amazing, seats are a lot nicer, I have surround camera, fam cam, I even have a second dash for the passenger, and a lot more options for a smidge more than what Volkswagen is asking for.
What was price of Jeep if you don’t mind me asking. I was in same situation as you but went with the Atlas Crossport SEL r line. Jeep with same options was a bit more when came to price.
@@Chyapoppyseed it was about $55k, but it’s the L so it’s three rows which is what we needed. I think with the 2 row it would’ve been a little cheaper if it was Limited trim.
Totally agree. I have had my ‘23 for 4 months and am shocked by how poor the gas mileage is. Ridiculously crappy. How, in this day and age, how has VW not remedied this?
276hp Natural is not Bad , Adding a Single Turbo and some Good Turning you can easly get 400hp+ and Twin turbo your would be in the Neighborhood of 500hp + That is what i would do right after buying One. There is soo much space in the Engine Bay
I own a 2021 Cross Sport. I like everything about it except the V6 engine. It doesnt have enough power. I wish VW would offer their 2.5L Turbo 4 cylinder with 300HP they used to put into the Golf GTI
Great review! Was the windshield on this one cracked though? I caught it near the end of the video then rewatched it to make sure I wasn't losing it lol
I'm okay with the flat black around the wheel wells because in the states that salt roads like PA ,over time it'll help the wells from rusting. But yes I agree with you about the rear wiper and fake exhausts. Both are a zonk
I have a late production 2018 Atlas SE w/tech. I say late because the first run in 18 had a ton of issues. VW fixed most for the 2nd run. 99k miles and no major issues. I maintain it, mostly tollway driving, 23mpg w/ vr6, 4 motion. I was disappointed when this came out. It’s definitely not a poor man’s Q8. Just looks too frumpy. Hopefully a redesign is coming soon.
When my warranty goes out I’ve been planning on seeing what happens. Supposedly ie’s tune makes 318 hp on the atlas. That’s with I don’t think any mods of any kind even. It’s just a detuned gti r engine to start with.
@@db9071 LMAO! True story! I went to test drive a brand new V.W one time and the A.C did not work. That was how I figured out V.W’s where junk, but I sure liked the look and feel of them. 😂
Please ask Your friends in VW if there would be PHEV Altas soon - also for Europe, ok? Regular Atlas is the most family friendly suv, Ford Expedition is 2nd - just because it is too big:)
Vw could have saved a bundle and just given us the shorter, european tiguan. We in n.a. Get only the stretched version. The taos and shorter tiguan are almost same size.
Did the heated seats not indicate off when you turned on the ventilated seats? Haven't seen that before in a vehicle, usually one cancels out the other.
@@DarkJediChrisG-1425Behold GREAT HERO TYLER M H SLADE and retrieve a fajita for GREAT HERO TYLER M H SLADE at once please. Please double check to make sure my request for eight tortilla wraps was filled. No dressing. Recently they put it on salad. Include cheese in salad (recently forgotten). No crema. No Guacamole. I’ve been trading the sauces for a total of 8 tortillas for years. Managers always honor and send. Thanks.
It’s a nice looking car, I’d have to zonk the v6 being underpowered and no turbo. I guess if they would have added the turbo then it would have been too much of a competition against the Q8.
No turbo is needed for longterm reliability (they alreay have a turbo 4). They need to make it 3.8 and get 330HP/290TQ out of it. for what it offers currently,it's over priced.
These used to have horrific reviews, my us, this is not be on our list, they aren’t built very good. Most have a horrible delay when accelerating, which is scary.
Something I've been curious about lately. What is the main thing that determines if an engine has a significantly lower torque value vs horsepower? It seems like most of the time they're nearly equal, but in some vehicles, I see that the torque might be 100 less than horsepower.
TBH for daily use, smoothness is the most important factor. You can compare a v6 from Japanese auto maker to a let's say BMW 3 series which has a i4 in it. The bmw will be faster but not near as comfortable as the v6
Empty engine bay 😂. As an engineer, I can tell that this is a telltale sign that the main thing they wanted to achieve with this car is to make it big.
& to keep an anti-aerodynamik high front end to satisfy the reptilian brain of childish males. Even the refresh front-end of the '23 Escape get more truckish. Almost all suvs have the space to put the spare tire above the engine as the europeans did in the past
It’s empty because vr6 is so compact that they could fit that engine in a Golf. Beauty of this engine is that it is not as wide as a v6 and not as long as an inline 6. I have a degree in mechanical engineering myself and it’s surprising that you don’t understand why that engine bay is so spacious
@@SacrificeBreedsSuccess ok if you say it's not as wide as a v6 so the angle between the 2 cylinder banks should be more acute resulting in a taller engine like the diagram on : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VR6_engine#:~:text=The%20Volkswagen%20VR6%20engine%20was,to%20a%20traditional%20V6%20engine.
@Zman I know that. They have used VR6 since the times of MK3 Golfs. To me it looks like a bad attempt to milk a platform in a lesser brand…while charging 50k and giving you a half empty engine bay as a reminder of what the chassis could handle. I would’ve been okay with that if they provided maybe a frunk to use that extra space? Half empty engine bay in a 50k car is pitiful to me. Although some might say that you get the same platform of a Lambo and and Audi for less price. To each their own.
How's that just 1 R badge on the 2022 VW ATLAS SE, the 2023 Ford F150 RAPTOR R has TWO R badges one on the front and one on the back what's with VW??????????????
grand cherokee is better all around. not debatable. better looking, wider range of luxury. The comp i think would be the Grand cherokee limited and is much better option. However, on both vehicles i do not like the flatt black non painted fenders. to get that in jeep you have to spend over 60k. at least in the atlas, you can get the front and rear bumper painted for under 50k
WHO ACTUALLY HAS ONE OF THESE? I have one and I'm wondering if you're driver side window is loud as shit when it's windy out? It drives me crazy. I even went back to the dealer to test drive another. Maybe in extra tripping but it's incredibly annoying
I like the looks of the Atlas cross sport, but the Grand Cherokee is way better. Better off road, better fuel economy, more reliable and has way more useful trim options including the trail hawk, Summit, Track Hawk, 4xE, Hemi Engine option, etc..
