Is the 2024 VW ID.4 a BETTER new SUV to buy than a Honda Prologue? 

As beautiful as this car is, I don't think it can beat the view in the background. Absolutely beautiful

The shape and the illuminated logo honestly make this look a lot better and more favorable than a model Y

I really like this one, Joe. Especially the touches of flat black around the wheel wells and contrasting with the gloss black detailing in the back of the vehicle. Though I think they went a little crazy with gloss black on the inside, it’s not so much that it wouldn’t be a contender. Love the color! Another great review, Joe and Steven.

These are nice looking vehicles for sure. Especially from a company who is not known for ever having anything attractive. These always catch my eye on the road.

Hard to say which one is better but at least styling on both I think they got it right

The VW engineers obviously designed the ID4 to expand the interior space and shrink the front end because there was no engine. In fact the ID4 has more interior and luggage space than the Prologue which is a foot longer.

I have a 2023, love it! I think a lot of the criticisms of this car come from it just being different from traditional ice cars. After you live it with it for a while it becomes very familiar. I can’t imagine going back to gas guzzlers

Not into EV but this was an interesting review. VW dealers couldn’t give them away but maybe this upgrade will make it! Gauge cluster is mediocre, change the tires, give it HUD etc etc. Nice review!

RWD is a non starter here in Canada and the range on the AWD is only 260 Miles with realistic world driving in cold weather around 200 miles. This is why EV’s are still not practical for us northerners.

I will say Joe, VW did do some right things for 2024. Some things are still a zonk, though. But even though it's electric, I was curious to see the ID.7. Being a sedan fan and everything.

A very nice subtle color. They have significantly improved the ID.4. The Prologue is a weird beast; I doubt that Honda will do business with GM again after being screwed over by GM's failure to produce batteries fast enough.

Beautiful drive! The car is alright. I am really looking forward to Rivian R2. If they can really deliver what was promised for $45-55K I think a lot of people would want to get that.

Fully with you on rear wiper placement. That was a huge zonk on the Hyundai Ionic 5. They need to put it up under the spoiler duuuuh

Have a 2023 AWD Pro. 2024 model has exactly the right updates. Happy with my 23, on a daily basis you really don’t need strong torque to drive to the strip mall

I would prefer color matched wheel fenders,but since it does I rather it be because flat black can take a beating better than gloss black...

Tires don't appear to be a square set up for the rwd. Vw lists the rear at 255/55/19

Can you confirm the '24 ID.4 have battery preconditioning? I thought only the Canadian models have that feature/option.

Great details ! Great review ! Impressed with the 24’ ID4. Disappointed VW didn’t adapt the Tesla charging port yet . J1772 will be obsolete in 10 yrs due to the Tesla charging network switching to allow non-Tesla vehicles to use their NACS plug as long as they have the right port . The adapters don’t appear to work properly . Some are even considered unsafe to use on the superchargers . VW could really get a jump on the competition if they think ahead and roll the 2025’s with the NACS in November 24’ announcements

Partly depends on tax credits. ID4 qualifies for the full credit, Prologue probably will, at least eventually. Prologue is a little better looking. The Prologue might be longer behind the front seats which would be nice but it seems like a lot of its extra length is just empty space under the hood with no frunk. If I felt like I needed all wheel drive and/or a heat pump I would go Prologue but I probably don't so maybe I would go single motor ID4 now that it has enough power, battery preconditioning, improved route planning and infotainment, and plug and charge at EA chargers. Single motor Prologue is barely over 200 horsepower in a car that is hundreds of pounds heavier. ID 4 also has a higher tow rating. Having said all that, the Kia EV6 light long range awd is looking like it might be a better option if the pricing dealers are advertising is for real.

Feb 29 2024. ID.4 available in Canada, not in USA. No changes to web site [shows leftover 2023s]. Prices increased, supposedly. Waited for this. Had enough of the promises.

when you did the 0-60 test, you said it was slow at the initial take off, did you have it in sport mode? that will give you a faster take off..

Zonk for no frunk. Best place to put charging cables or adapters on a roadtrip so you dont have to move all your bags to get to them.

The MPGE stat is the dumbest part of EV review videos. Just tell us the efficiency in miles per kwh. That unit for efficiency makes way more sense, and is much easier to understand

Give us the real world miles / kw. Also the interior of this car is just bland, dull and boring. The rear unpainted lower bumper section looks incomplete!

I want an EV. But I am getting very tired of reviews about great cars that I simply cannot afford. These companies that think they are going to increase their profits by building more and more expensive cars are just asking the Chinese auto makers to take over the global auto industry.

It's very nice but kinda overpriced and it has the VW badge. Maybe you feel different but I have no reason to like or support VW. I chose Tesla and have no regrets. It works great all the time. So many aspects of the car are considered best in class.

Tell me you know nothing about the topic of your video without telling me you know nothing about the topic of your video. The wheels you point out as new have been around for a long time on the ID4. The battery pack wasn’t increased in size to increase range, the motor is a new model that is more efficient that increased range.
