People don't realize how fast the newer generation 2018+ 5.0 F150's really are, especially up top, and especially with E85 + a tune. It will surprise a lot of people.
@@FordBossMe the older ones were decent but the 2018+ definitely breathe better and pull stronger up top, then you add in the 10-sp and its a big difference, believe me.
@@tylerspecht7553 quite a few differences in the internals of the motor when they went to the 10 speed with the gen 3 coyote with the 2018-2020. Dual injection per cylinder and 12:1 compression being two of the important changes. Amazing motors
Ford did that, and they found that the benefits of DOHC diminishes as cylinder diameter increases. They made an off-road only Raptor with a DOHC 6.2 that put out 500 hp / 500 ft-lb torque I read one write up about it and basically it lived up to it's designation as a competition only engine. The problem is as bore increases there isn't the margin of efficiency due to DOHC that smaller bores give. So a 6.2 DOHC can make more power than a 6.2 OHV, but not a lot and it weighs more is a much bigger engine. Ford also tested a 5.8 liter DOHC but they killed it because fuel burn was awful and they found the 5.0 was more capable than they thought at the onset. People loved the SOHC 6.2, it was an extremely durable engine, Ford had reason for moving to the 7.3 given the impact it has had, I'm gonna yet again admit they know better than I on this topic. I'll put my fishing strategy against them any time, but trucks? I'll just buy Ford.
They had a 6.2L engine in 2012 and 13, it was rare to have it in an f150 but the set raptors had a 6.2 and that's the only one I recall of them making.
Agree. My '20 5.0 F150 w/Borla exhaust is very quiet at normal driving, but when I jump on it, boy, it just howls! Not to mention, it's surprisingly quick.
@@dguggs Yes, the S-Type mid-section exhaust. It's been a bit since I posted that first post, and I still love the sound and performance of this truck! 21 mpg avg, amazing sound and quick.
21 mpg avarage... my 2018 f150 5.0 avarages 17 if I'm lucky. Is it the difference of years or do you have other mods ? BTW I have the cat back stinger as well
@@brandonharrington1422 except a regular cab 5.0 or 6.2 with FI will for 7k. Definitely the 5.0 will as used whipple and TVS from mustangs can be had for less. So…. Yeah. Keep cheerleading for the lesser engines that’s fun
Been trying to decide between the 3.5 and the 5.0 but I haven't seen any 3.5 in the low 4s whereas I see a 5.0 with just a blower eat gtrs. Was leaning towards the 3.5 till I saw this@@brandonharrington1422
@@169abr Riddle me this. If the push rod is so antiquated, why did Ford come out with pushrod motors for their heavy duty trucks and do away with the overhead cams. One could argue it was because of cost, but I don't think that to be the case more reliable and more Torque
I have a 2021 Roush Ford F-150 Supercrew, It has the 5.0 with 3.73 gears with the Roush exhaust. Truck is bone stock and weighs 5480 lbs with full tank (34 gal) I weigh 315Lbs. My best 0-60 on the Racebox has been 5.69 and my best run with the Draggy is 5.66. I have over 10 launches on each device. The best launch I get is 4 wheel high and Advance Trac turned off. I constantly run 60ft of 2.13-2.14. My race weight is 5795Lb. Great video, IMHO trucks are very similar in performance. But on E-85 with an engine and tranny tune the 5.0 will kill the 6.2. You just cannot beat the volumetric efficiency of a4th Gen Coyote.
Let's not forget the 5.0 is also set up for e85 off the showroom floor and has some pretty decent gains just pumping some corn into the tank and the ecu adjusting for the added octane.
@@mxer652 That dude is delusional if he thinks a 2011 6.2L Silverado can hold a candle to a 2022 5.0L F-150. But yeah on the corn juice, I've run E-85 through my stock 5.0L F-150 and even without a tune for it I can definitely feel a difference between E-85 and 93 octane. Problem is I love about 4 to 5mpg on average lol even driving gently.
Great video! Ford surely nailed that 5.0 over the years. That engine is really a good canvas to start with. It loves boost, it loves tunes, it loves mods. Great engine.
Just don't take the 5.0 trucks into any water coming close to the alternator... Ive had 3 different friends need replacements and 2 weren't warrantied due to water being the cause. One guy had his short out from going thru a car wash with the undercarriage wash...
@@Co1eTrain84 really? That amazes me, I’ve owned 2 2015 5.0s and 2 2021 f150s, I’ve done some stupid stuff with water and super deep snow, never had a issue, knock on wood.
What “mods” show any serious gains in a NA 5.0? Aside from completely rebuilding the engine with EFR parts, or putting a blower or turbo setup on it, it’s mediocre compared to Ecoboost.
@@jimmydiamond75 you do a intake, TB, manifold, headers with e85, maybe cams if your feeling spicy and you have yourself a 500whp truck. The mustang 5.0 (my personal car) makes 550 wheel with the above mods listed.

Love all your vids chase! I’ll be switching my 2020 6.2 over to 3.73s soon from the 3.23s I got the pulsar lt and s&b intake too. That 5.0 is no joke though
Exactly man!! Had a 2019 6.2 Silverado but just traded it in for a 2022 F150 platinum with the 5.0 both badass trucks!! But if I’m bieng honest I do like the F150 better
LOL Yeah, right! Not sure about the last couple years, but the first 2-3 years of that 10 speed were NOT good! Great when it works but awful when it doesnt. Built like garbage. Like someone forgot to tighten things up and left some parts out when assembling it. I know because I own an '18. The transmission is actually the worst part of my truck and the biggest let down, no question.
@@chfpontiac5849 have a friend who drive a 2018 raptor till a couple months ago (he’s got a 2022 now) and his 10 speed was fantastic. I drive a 2020 RST with a 6.2 10 speed and it’s been great.
Nice trucks. Great video! I also have a 21 5.0L 3.73, with a Borla S-type Cat Back, 2" leveling kit, 34x12s, +18 offset. Super fun to drive! I've enjoyed your videos. Thanks for sharing!

I love my 2021 F-150 5.0! It’s still just stock for now, hopefully getting some performance mods for Christmas! New sub here, I like seeing these comparisons. Much love from Texas!
Good video - your FX4 has a twin in Brevard County, Florida. Both trucks are beast - but I prefer Ford’s power to weight ratio and truck type handling.
Great vid! 2 great powerhouses its all about preference I've personally grown to love ford f150s but you cant argue both are great! power, payload, towing or otherwise its great to be alive when America brought muscle back under the hood.
Did you put premium 91/93oct fuel in the 6.2 like you’re supposed to or just run it on crap 87? 6.2 is gonna lose 10-20hp due to spark knock on 87. It states it in the manual and I’ve watched it in real time on my scan tool.
I enjoy these performance videos. I remember when I bought my new 07 Tundra I would get comments that truck doesn’t need to be so fast. It’s a truck! But it did make the domestics take notice and they upped there game shortly there after. It would now be considered slow compared to these trucks. Competition really helps drive the market.
Yeah the 5.7L I-Force back in 2007 was insane for the times. The only thing that was even remotely close at the time was the Dodge Hemi's with 345hp which still came up 41hp short of the I-Force. Glad Toyota put everyone on notice, these days no matter what brand is your favorite you can have ton's of power.
I a fan of both these engines... Ford really needed that 5.0 ! . Both these engines are a complete different monsters in their own way as one of them runs out of torque at mid range and one of them keeps building torque all the way up to the red line so it would be really cool to see similar video comparison pulling weight to see how that effects them
@ISSA VIBEZ look at the stats new gmc and old gmc or chevy beat ford pretty bad in reliability let's not forget to mention the LS motors 2007 and earlier
Ihave been waiting for this video! Revs and DOHC vs volume. I was hoping the 6.2 would take it. If you get time how bout RST wheel and tire on the trail boss. Those goodyears are fairly heavy. tire
What kind of tuner I have a Diablo tuner for mine I took my truck in and had the oil changed and the transmission service and they did something and change the settings now it sucks more gas and it doesn't have half the torque, can you please help me find the settings that are appropriate for my truck to get me back the torque and the gas mileage I was getting 26 per gallon on the freeway and now it's only getting like about 12 to 13 miles per gallon on the freeway as well and it's just something's Goofy with it. It's a 5.3 2018 Silverado
LOL...No 5.0 has been faster than 6.2 NA in the 1/4 mi once modded. They are better with boost not NA. The 6.2's pickup 25-30whp from E85 and tune alone. Heads/Cam/Hi-ram 6.2's make 700hp NA like nothing. 850hp if you bore and stroke them to 427's. That is something you cannot do with 5.0's. They are limited to their factory displacement and will never make more than 600hp NA. Not to mention GM's pushrod motors are far easier to work on. I have yet to run in to 1 Coyote owner that works on his own stuff vs a plethora of GM LS/LT owners who do.
@@joemeyers1016 and no highly modded 6.2 beats a highly modded (boost, supercharger, etc.) 5.0... it's been proven time and time again and for 99% of truck owners, the types of mods you're going to run into are the trucks in this video. And shocker, the more proven 5.0 wins. Ford's been beating the competition since they introduced the coyote and they do it with over a liter of less displacement. Hard to say the Chevy has a better motor when it can barely keep up with a 5.0 N/A
I wonder what the trim level, curb weight and diff gear ratio is on these trucks, yeah the f150 is faster, but the chevy looks like a high country, which should be heavier that the f150, which is a xl or xlt by the poly steering wheel. At the end of the day, the fact trucks can do 0 to 60 in less than 6 seconds and get decent gas milage shows how much trucks have come along, both are as fast as my 2011 charger rt, pretty impressive
Love my 5.0. The Borla Atak exhaust is so loud haha. It's not everyone's cup of tea but it's exactly what I wanted. Most of the time I just drive around with the radio off and the windows down so I can listen to it.
@@TheMeanmarine13 Just about the best sounding mass produced engine there is. I did own a 06 GTO for a couple of years with, SLP long tubes, an X-pipe, with, high flow cats and muffler delete ending with a pair of stainless steel Supertrap Elites. Not too many people know about these outside of the motorcycle world, but they are a tunable exhaust, by adding or removing plates at the end. First time i heard them was on an 89 Mustang lx. These things sound like nothing else.
In the age of 10 Speed transmissions it wouldn't make as big of a difference from 3.42's as you might think. Back when you had 4-Speed auto's the rear end ratio was a huge deal. But these days your splitting hairs between the fuel economy ratio and the towing ratio.
Agreed. 3.73 would be way better than the 3.23's GM forces on you. My 18 5L with 3.73's and a 32" as opposed to the 33" tire that the 19+ GM trucks and the 21+ F150's comes with turns pretty much identical RPM to every M6 LS/LT Camaro I've owned in it final overdrive. At 80 MPH my 3.73 FX4 is right at 2K RPM so with the exact same gearing in the transmission I don't see the need for such a conversative rear gear in the GM trucks. GEN3+ SBC's love cruising around 2K RPM on the highway.
I loved the 5.0. Had one in a previous truck. I just picked up a new F150 Stx with a 3.5 ecoboost last week . We can line em up if your ever in Calera 🤣 Keep up the content brother 👍🏻
@@ripperlipper1016 I'm a 5.0 guy but the new 3.5EB's have the same exact power as the 5.0's, both have 400hp. Difference is the 5.0 has 410 ft-lbs of torque while the 3.5EB has 500.
I honestly love the torque of the 3.5 over the 5.0 so far. Last week I traded in a 2015 2.7 ecoboost with 307k on the odometer for my new 3.5. Only major thing done was a torque converter at 180k. My company pays for my truck and I track the maintenance on all of the others and have been for about 6 years. We have 6 F150s currently from 2016-2022 with the ecos and 5.0s. We put about 50 to 60k on our trucks per year. Mostly highway but when we're at a jobsite we're often somewhere you have to have 4wd. I wasn't big on the ecoboost at first. I love V8s in anything. I didnt get to pick the last truck engine like this time and was a little bummed about driving an ecoboost. It slowly grew on me. Even more surprising, even to myself we have been having better luck out of the ecoboosts reliability wise.
Had the coyote in my mustang and blew 2 up at the track. Ls swapped to a 6.2 and have been killin it since. Coyote bottom ends can't handle the boost and are much more expensive than ls's. They are great for daily driving but the ls in my opinion is the superior engine
I’ve been waiting for this video to drop because I knew the 5.0 was gonna surprise a lot of people by beating the 6.2. Well done 👍🏼 I was once a GM guy, until I bought my Ford F-150 Roush with the 5.0 and the 10R80 transmission. It’s just too much fun. I hope you hold out for the Oz Omega X tune, too. I just put it on my 2019 and I absolutely love it. It should be available for the ‘21’s and 22’s soon.
@@bestman7776 Only time I was ever beside one was coming off a ramp onto a highway and to be honest it didn't seem that much faster. Clearly he was passing me but it wasn't like I was standing still.
The jacked up trucks with 20×12 slinging mud down the side look great! However I like my 19 Plat leveled on stock tires... way faster and I get 19.5 mpg if I stay out of it... rotating mass is everything as well as effectively lowering your final drive gear ratio the taller you go with the tires. The only thing that can combat the weight is a true custom tune for your truck. Good comparison
So hear it from me . Trust me the Ford 5.0 is definitely faster straight out the box . Meaning stock form. I know . I blessed to have both. The best part is the factory tune on the 5.0 with the 10 speed I'm a very happy camper on the way to work. Passing power is great , Passing cars is done so efficiently and effortless. I've had 5 gm trucks with 3 being 6.2 and this is my 1st F150 it. The GMC is full bolt on with 430hp to the wheels and 474 tq. And this 5.0 still surprises me and makes me smile.
Great video, both are in fact great engines power wise(and sound wise :) ), but something to keep in mind is the weight of the truck as well. I am admittedly a GM guy, but damn those 5.0's are putting out some numbers stock compared to the larger GM 6.2L V8.
I am a Ford guy. I have been all my life and I only have 150 with a 5 l now but I can't knock this Chevy 6.2 either. It was just really really close. Both are very good engines it looks like but I love mine 5 l

Always enjoyed my 5.0 in my 18 mustang. The deal with the 5.0 is mostly forced air. Theres not a whole lotta running room past that. Those absurdly large heads respond real well to power adders. The GM and their tinker friendly cam in blocks gives you alot more room for performance mods.
Lol 5.0 coyote engines put up some of the craziest aftermarket power . They LOVE boost . Don’t take my word for it just go to RU-vid channel 337 speed .
What people don’t understand is that ford been behind for a long time People are still into LS engines not much LT engines till this day Ford recently in the pass years has done noise with this new engines
As others have said, it's amazing how it takes GMs 6.2 to compete with Fords 5.0. The 5.0 is such a more efficient engine for power per liter. I'm a full time mechanic, I can say I would rather work on the 6.2, but the goal is to not have to work on them at all. I had a 2014 F150 5.0 for years and loved it, but I was disappointed when the Cylinder head formed a hairline crack that caused it to leak oil. Couldn't believe it and everybody I've talked to, including the machine shop my shop deals with, have never heard of or seen that happen on the 5.0 engines. I did sell that (I informed the buyer of the problem and sold it much cheaper than KBB) and upgraded to a Dodge Cummins. But I still maintain that right now, fords 5.0 is the most efficient engine on the market and the best as far as aftermarket support. All you have to do on a 5.0, is slap a supercharger on it and you're making 500-650rwhp.
@@dailydose8035 not mine but there’s a guy on streetcarvideo who beats the shit outta his car, stick shift blue car, apparently he drives the north everywhere. I daily my 5.0 but it’s a bolt on NA car, there is a couple guys around here who daily booted setups and they’ve not had any complaints.
It's a DOHC vs a pushrod V8, it could be said the 5.0 makes more per liter but it's a physically bigger engine than the 6.2L, so one could argue you get more for less with the 6.2L, not to mention more torque. The 5.0 does react much better to boost.
Nice, but what cab configuration and trim level and 2wd or 4x4? Because the weight of an XL single cab 2WD is vastly different than a loaded supercrew 4x4, for example. So, simply saying 2022 5.0 F150 doesn't tell us that much.
Awesome trucks. A super sleeper truck is a 4th gen Ram 1500 short bed regular cab with the low diff option. Sub 6 second 0-60 every time with zero spin in 4wheelauto
I rented a f150 with the coyote....and that thing freaking ripped and put a HUGE smile on my face ...everyone that went for a ride with me ... couldn't wait to get out lmao....but it was so good .
Love the 5.0 in the newer Fords. I'd like to see some times on the strip (with you driving both), as the 6.2 is typically a few 10ths faster. Also I believe the GM's are quicker in Off Road mode, than sport in a straight line. Fastest times I've seen are 4wd launch, minimal Rev up, and switching into 2wd as soon as you're moving.
I got a 2013 f150 3.7l v6 sittin on 35s w/22 in rims with a stage 3 tune and a Thornton stage 3 tuning chip and I haven’t had a 6.2 or a 5.0 that can keep close on take off but after 3rd laters

We had a 21 f150 we sold at work,it was a base 4x4 reg cab with the 5.0. I was impressed with its performance,I never checked the numbers but it felt very similar to my 01 lightning when it was stock. My first thought when I drove it was what a great platform to build upon,I considered buying it to make a "New" lightning, but my old one is going to stick around for a bit longer.
Does anyone have torque and horsepower graph. Just curious as to where they both make power. That Ford is wicked. I wonder who pulls a trailer better ??
The 5.0L has a little less torque down low but continues to build constantly to the redline. The 6.2L has more low end but the trade off is it starts run out of breath in the mid/high RPM range.
Two thoughts: One, GM hasn't upgraded the power on the 6.2 since 2014 (and 420hp was available in the Escalade a few years before that), thats NINE model years with no increase- thanks Mary Berra. Two, I floored my truck at the start of the video, and it was over before I hit 60!
