You need to use an external router because the onboard one isn’t strong enough and should be bypassed. The mixer itself is amazing and that is the only weak point but a fairly cheap dual band router fixes the problem and gives you a secure network that can’t be hacked into a live gig.
Our Church is still using our old Mackie CFX20 from 1999. It has worked quite well until about a year ago when it started having some problems. We are in the process of replacing it with an A&H SQ6. I am not looking forward to this as I have been running analog boards since the early 1970s. And yes, I know about your SQ learning video series. I ordered them during your Black Friday sale. My problem with using mixers like the X18 is needing to use a touchscreen. I suffered a series of strokes a few years ago and while I recovered fairly well I can't work with touchscreens well enough to use something like this. I physically don't have the manual dexterity anymore to work virtual faders and knobs in a live setting.
@Martin Lion Why? That doesn't address any of my issues with digital boards. Plus it's a Behringer product which means little to no support and poor performance and quality overall. Sorry, but no thanks.
Newer laptops don’t have Ethernet ports to connect to the the XR18 should you need to hard wire it if the wireless is not working well. I just ordered an usb to Ethernet adaptor. I hope this works as I need to know that I will NEVER be stuck if an iPad has troubles or there’s wireless troubles. I really don’t want to carry around a back up mixer. Has anyone ever done this? I’m not even sure it’s possible at all?
If the iPad you’re controlling it with dies, does the mixer still function as it did before? Does it freeze the settings where they are or does it just fall apart?
The mixer will continue to function if it loses connection with the mixer. You just can't make any changes to your mix. I've been using mine for about a half and year and LOVE it. Absolutely no regrets - should have bought one years ago. I can't imagine myself ever going back to an analogue mixer.

I have a Midas version. It will work with or without connection. Connection isn't needed. Also if your tablet or phone freezes have no impact on the sound. Mixer itself has never freezed or done anything weird so far. But becuse they are really cheap its a good idea to have a backup mixer with you when shit hits the fan. But I havent seen any dead or freezed x18/xr18 or mr18 mixer so far. Also I havent heard any audible latency issues.
@@r.e.d.62 The built-in wireless hardware is pretty trash, seems a ton of users experience connectivity issues on Day 1. Use an external router or run ethernet to it directly.
@@r.e.d.62 Bad coverage (might work in a small rehearsal room though), only 2,4 GHz, outdated security... I bought a used Asus AC Wifi router for ~30 USD, and it works great with my mixer.
My suggestion would be to keep a computer with no internet access with the software at that version and just leave it to work. I mean, why would it stop working if you're not changing the OS or the device? I just ordered an XR18 for my band and that's how I'd cope with it when it happens.
there are already third party applications available for every os you can imagine, because thankfully the xr18 has excellent open sound control support
