Chad hogan was a made up name by scottish comedian Kevin bridges. A guy in America called chad hogan invited Kevin over to America to a party. Kevin accepted the invite and went. Then on one of Kevin's big shows, chad hogan came to Scotland and did a wrap on stage.... It was a great turn of events
£19 for that burger!!! Wow what a rip off. Would never ever pay that for a burger. That’s even dearer than London!! Good review though Danny. A bit generous with an 8 I think😂😂
I didn't hear any "Oh my days", so this is a miss for me. I can get a massive, beautifully cooked and presented Sunday lunch at one of our top pubs for less than £19: and a pint of good beer to go with it costs less that £5. I know what I would rather have. Cheers Danny, another good review.
Great video Danny and team. In so many videos people complain about the price in the comments but this one is actually the only one in my memory that has actually been unreasonable.
That was funny with the young guy bringing out the old school camera to take a photograph. I don't think I have ever seen anyone nowadays with one. Danny was so funny when they later brought out the cellphone camera and he remarked that they were bringing out the new technology! They were a nice and friendly young couple.

The yellow box is an old police box where they kept a phone before the radios were top notch. They were painted blue, and they could keep you prisoner in there it's made of cast iron like the Titanic. Dr Who has one and he calls it the TARDIS.
Having been in the restaurant business you learn that menu prices have little to do with expenses and more to do with the owner collecting extra money to fund his next 2-3 locations. They don't need the extra couple of dollars/pounds but their bank wants them to collect that to be worthy of a loan for the new location. Hence you get $18 Big Mac meals because the owner is financing new locations. They blame it on wages of course but then they suddenly open several $3 million locations as if by magic.
Hi Danny, As someone in the Edinburgh area I wouldn't buy a burger for £19 ever! It's tourist prices like a lot of Edinburgh unfortunately. Loving watching your trip up here, come back soon
I drive the buses in Edinburgh. Disappointed i never saw you but have to admit that burger and sides was way over priced and glad you mentioned it. Fight for the people!
I agree most City Capital restaurants/take outs are going to overcharge because of tourism but you can have a cafe or pub meal in Edinburgh for £7-£12. I think Danny was overly generous with this rating of 8. Me 6. If this place wants to up their game, much bigger burger, chips & drink £12 & increase in profits x2.
I just figured out what £19 equals in Canadian dollars and I fell out of my chair. It would cost me $32 in my own money. Americans would pay $24. Australians would pay $36! THATS MENTAL. Beef chuck is super cheap, and pork shoulder is even cheaper. Not to mention, burgers are so easy to make, and it's hard to mess up. This video could be used in court as evidence of a robbery!!!
The price has nothing to do with it being in Edinburgh. This is a Glasgow born chain of restaurants and the prices are the same there. Never thought about it before but £19 is pretty steep to be fair. The place in Glasgow city centre is always packed and you often need to wait for a table so they must be doing something right. Anyone saying the food is bad needs to give their head a shake!
I'm not at all being funny Danny, I've watched for years as you know but I think you've been done here. Normally when it's pricey I can see and understand why when you've given your opinion but £31 for that?? Mind blown.. portion sizes aren't even that great to compensate ❤
Bread meats Bread used to be incredible when it first opened, proper 9/10 every time I visited, especially the Lothian Wolf burger and Maple Sweet Potato fries. Unfortunately my last 3 visits the burgers have been just average, 7/10. It used to be my favorite so I hope they look to improve back to their best.
I's like to see the menu on video & list of which items you ordered in the description. Maybe a pointer to the website.. Sometimes hard for we Americans to grasp your accent. THANK YOU!
The small sheds are old police boxes repurposed for snack and often coffee places,the police used to have a phone to call in and used them for shelter on patrol
Bread meats bread always been class, your right to call them out on the pricing of £19 for that burger as it's over the top, but have to admit all the other burgers I've tried for cheaper are definitely worth it, hope this video doesn't put people off trying this place as it's class 👍 but fair review man
Yeah, where I live locally, like within 25 miles at least and on South coast, there are gourmet burger bars that charge tops £17 but more commonly an excellent burger for £7-£12 elsewhere... I recently tried Popeye's in Brighton for first time and don't think I'll be having any burgers anytime soon before another set of chicken tenders with buffalo sauce anytime soon. Their chips are amazing too!

Danny, Just an idea but you could visit the restaurants most FE Colleges have on their premises. They have them to help Hospitality Students and most of them are great value for money.
A bit of an unfair one Danny. Burger prices at Bread Meats Bread are around £10-12 for a top-notch quality dry aged beef burger. Chad Hogan burger isa one-off burger and has around 15 ounces of meat -430 grams on it! You will struggle to find a cheaper 15 ounce burger anywhere in the UK that uses meat similar to the quality of Bread Meats Bread. You should have measured them based on their classic Bacon Cheese burger that, for me, wins hands down against any other burger joint in the UK on quality vs price.
Way too expensive and the burger just looked like a regular burger, was expecting something bigger for the price! And no chips 😱 Have to say Danny, what a genuine decent bloke you are! Loving your videos 😁
I was always surprised at the value of the meals you received. Not so much now. Sorry you have to pay so much. You still make me smile and feel optimistic about our world.
We went to the Bread Meats Bread on North Bridge years ago and it was excellent, prices were fairly good back then for a sit-in experience and the portion sizes decent, we all came away chuffed with the experience despite being tight Yorkshire-folk like your good self. Then a few years later we stayed across the road from the one you visited here and were keen for a repeat but the reviews painted a totally different picture, it was never that busy either whereas the one on North Bridge had queues outside. Sadly I think the old cost of living lark has caused them to cut back on what they used to do so well which is a massive shame as it was right up there with the best. I'd have been pretty miffed if I'd paid what you did for what I received, it's sad to see, especially with two decent places in view across the road and a few others on the same street. Hopefully they return to form and get their reputation back at some point soon. Still better value than the Funky Indian in Pudsey that time though :)
The Breakfast Bothy you saw - "is a meeting place where people experiencing financial hardship or homelessness can visit to get a warm breakfast, coffee, tea and good chat." Pass it quite often, and such a good idea.
I wish you could have come to this BMB when it first opened. It was really good. Then they expanded really quickly, dropped their quality and upped their prices, and are shit now.

Above average place for a burger wouldn’t be paying 19pound for one in this place. There are plenty of good quality burger joints around Edinburgh and Glasgow.
This is why its so hard for small restaurants. If they want to get relatively quality ingredients but cant benefit from economies of scale, they are going to end up with razor tight margins. Couple that with rent costs and thats how they end up with a twenty quid burger. They'd be better off with a burger van and getting slightly cheaper ingredients so as to be able to drop prices to a reasonable amount
Danny Edinburgh has always been crazy prices! Im from Fife, quite close to where you were in Kirkcaldy at the chinese (Rebeccas) & it just gets worse every year, especially for the fringe. Everything is doubled...im in my 60s & both my neices were at school in Edinburgh, so i spent quite a bit of time there, on the outskirts, & that wasn't too bad but the minute you come into the city centre its unbelievable...my son & girlfriend were at bread eats bread not so long ago & his burger was quite greasy, he was disappointed, as he said the burger tasted nice but he couldn't eat it 😢...hope you weren't too cold when you were here 🙈😂
I have lived in Edinburgh all my life there was a cafe called quick and plenty a wee cafe that is disappearing from high street to be replaced by those expensive cafes it was the most cheapest cafe in hole of Edinburgh run by 2 older lady’s for the working man its next to king’s theatre men can’t afford to eat out specially in Edinburgh as prices are to high even fish and chips is £12
The BMB originates from Glasgow and the prices are the same , so it's not over priced because it's in Edinburgh those are the usual prices . The First store was opened by 2 brothers in Glasgow in 2012 and now there are 7 stores in Scotland , 4 in Glasgow & 3 in Edinburgh .
