There's a reason the Mercedes E-Class is considered a benchmark and an icon. It's quite simply a good sedan and with the new mild-hybrid inline 6 cylinder engine, it might just be perfect.

Honestly the E 450 is the only sedan I'd ever want. There's just something about it that makes it the perfect combo of sport, luxury and elegance that just no other manufacturer has met. Hell even MB hasn't met this blend in any of their other vehicles. The S class is just an executive transport, the C class is just a sports car. Really if money is no object, you can not go wrong with an E class, but you can with just about anything else.
@omars.8073
@omars.8073 2 года назад
At the risk of sounding like an old fogey, I will say I remember a time when the E-Class and S-Class both had tremendous presence on the road (or even when parked). Now, I feel like both sedans are designed to look smaller than they actually are, and distinguishing the E-Class in particular from the smaller C-Class is nearly impossible if you're not close enough to read the badge. Also, the interior of the S-class looks like a pachinko parlor.
@s50201
@s50201 2 года назад
Weirdly the CLA has a really nice, upscale look. The E-class design is kinda doughy, pudgy, not too attractive imo. The S-class is stately enough, but it could use a little more edge.

Having had a C32 AMG the styling today is too ovid and not very distinctive. My CT6 turns more heads than any MB sedan today.
@markmiller3279
@markmiller3279 2 года назад
I like the overall shape, but the front end is much too bland and soft. The Audi is similarly conservative, but they've given it some edges that make it much more interesting. The 5-Series is attractive, but generic BMW. I suppose that kind of clear family look is good, but does it have to be so predictable?

No it’s not impossible to tell the difference between the c and a. Especially in terms of size you should be able to just look at the car and tell if it’s a c or e based on its width and chunkyness since the e is bigger than c in body shape
@AutoEnthusiastJC
@AutoEnthusiastJC 2 года назад
the front end just doesn’t look like an E-class to me. Looks like a first gen CLA meets a C-class. They should have given it the S-class grill with hood ornament so it would live up to previous E-Classes from the 90s.

@@b1uezea1ot I feel the same! In addition to making the models harder to tell apart I also think that the jagged DRLs don't fit the otherwise smooth curve design on the rest of the exterior as well as the former 'eyebrow' look did. I found that to be really beautiful. The jagged DRLs look less elegant and more angry, which I know it what is in right now, but still... And on top of all that, the jagged DRLs look more similar to some other brands' DRLs, like some Audis and Lexuses and Fords, for example, which I just think is a pity. The previous DRLs made the Mercedes stand out (in a good way!), and these new ones....don't.

Yes, it's an excellent design, and I suspect more cars will move that way. It's right up at eye level and integrates well with the instrument panel. It's also the correct orientation for displaying the backup camera image. Nobody needs a humongous display on a moving vehicle, at least not before they're truly self-driving.
@benjaminsmith2287
@benjaminsmith2287 2 года назад
@@damilolaakanni Not really. The Tesla has a horizontal screen and basically nothing else (at least the 3 and Y). The S class still has a ton of lux in terms of trim and it's not really minimalist/stark like the Tesla. It's just different and not quite as elegant as its predecessor. The E will go in the same direction as the S when it is updated in 2 years or so.

Have to say that hybrid electric motor driven air conditioner is the most ingenious bit of Mercedes engineering introduced in modern times. Regardless of engine speed [on or off], the A/C blows a consistent volume of cool air. That is the supernatural driving insight Mercedes was built on. I have owned and driven the 2021 E450 for 9 months now. The 2022 model was not in stock due to Covid at the time. Infact, I had to wait for two months for the Hermes communications Module to arrive and be subsequently retrofitted due to supply chain issues. With the extra options that I purchased, the retail price should have been $71,060, but I had to pay an extra $17,500 on top of the MSP because the lot was empty. The car has been a blessing and it definitely meet up to expectation in terms of performance, comfort, convenience, and safety. It is my fourth Mercedes Benz and the best so far. Am loving it!

Father in law has one, it's one of the finest sedans on the market. Roommate had one from a couple gens ago, perhaps 2011 or 2013...I forget. That too was a great car, built to last. I doubted it for a while, but the E class is the standard. It may not have the athletic form the CT5/CTS, BMW 5 series, but it is a proper RWD, longitudinal engine built with quality and minus the overly teched' out issues that come in the form of Audis.

Downside of the 48 volts hybrid systems is that it dies when the car sits in showrooms. Plenty of dead brand new cars on MB World discussion board. They got rid of the analog clock. For the G80, one has to option a very expensive "luxury pack" to get second row climate. Also, the G80 has a small trunk, and no folding seats - the A6 has a large trunk, with folding seats. As a chauffeur, I agree - I think it has a bit more rear leg and toe room. It also has a very good trunk (large, with a flat base and straight sides) but I'm not sure how it compares to the E-Class. The A6 also has tri-zone climate as standard - the base model is very good value indeed for chauffeurs, at least here in Sydney. Btw, I rarely hear Alex mention Audi, and I'm curious as to the reason.

@@competitiveautomotive5457 They are different cars, but judging whether the e class is really better is a huge question. The Lexus has more room inside everywhere PERIOD!!! The Trunk space in the Lexus is much bigger PERIOD.!!! The motor and transmissions, although not having the same power, are miles better in quality, dependability, and reliability (No question about it). The Lexus is damn near bulletproof. Now the Mercedes sells technology (which has a reputation to fail and need fixing) Mercedes marketing wows with lighting, engine power options, constant reminding of the heritage of years past and a life style. Mercedes fails at delivering the Best or Nothing, they charge for their name but their service department often lags behind that of Lexus. So yes the two vehicles are different cars that price in at 55,000 up and down, but only one can get you to 300,000 miles without emptying your bank account, and that would be Lexus

@@WaywardAnalysis I have two Model 3s and have done many 250 mile trips without charging on the way. It’s not a big deal for me to stop for 20 minutes every 280 miles to charge. It takes 15 minutes to wait in the line at the Costco Gas Station anyways, and I charge at night to 80% so I have 250 miles of range every morning.
