Is the current Gotei 13 the weakest, even with a select few extremely powerful captains? Let me know your thoughts!

There is no debate. Yamamoto was so powerful both Aizen and Yhwach were scared to take him on without cheat codes. Lets say that again: two of the most broken villains in all of fiction looked at this old man and thought ''aw, hell no.''

Loosing old man Yama and Unohana definitely hurts the Gotei 13's overall power level a LOT, not to mention other strong Captains like Aizen and Gin who defected. Even the Special War Powers only included a single Captain of the Gotei directly, which says a lot.

Lets be honest, Shinji to me is the most interesting one because, Kubo tries to paint him as strong but never gives him the win to prove it. He made him Leader of the Vizored's, who go on to accomplish basically nothing despite the calibur of their members, all being upper eschelon Soul Reapers before also gaining hollow powers on top of that. He makes him seem intelligent, but not on the same level as guys like Aizen, Mayuri or Urahara. He makes him seem cunning but not to the same degree as Kyoraku. So in the end you basically end up with guy who leads a "failed" faction and who was smart enough to suspect Aizen but not smart enough to hinder him in any substantial way. In a way he suffers from what I call Chad syndrome. Where he's (like many of the Vizored's I should add) used as a measuring stick of a foes true strength. Like for a threat to be "big fight" worthy they first go through a character like Shinji, who's strong, but not the strongest, smart but not the smartest, calculating but not incalculable. To then prove they're ready to play with the big boys like Kenpachi, Urahara or Kyoraku.

It’s impossible to not think the captains are weak after Kubo made a concerted effort to embarrass them in the tybw

Yeah. Losing Yamamoto is a huge hit to Gotei's power level, and while Kenpachi and Rukia now having Bankai and Renji having an improved Bankai are nice boons, I doubt they come close to filling the power gap left by the former Head Captain. Losing Unohana, meanwhile, is a big hit to the Gotei's power, undoubtedly, but far more so a massive hit to the organization's healing capabilities. I want to say Ukitake is a big loss as well, but his debilitating illness combined with simply not getting that good of a showing over the series makes it debatable.

It’s worth noting that the Gotei 13 lost power because it lost some masters; but they were the strongest shinigami because they were the oldest, most experienced ones. The Gotei 13 has steadily improved since the start of the series and they will continue to do so. They have all the time in the world to grow in power so there is potential for someone like Zaraki to reach Yamamoto’s level. Just look at Renji’s exponential growth through the series.

I think Mayuri proved himself in every way relevant to his position, and even surpassing that. Mayuri provided the most logistical support and took the initiative to keep the fight going. Not to mention, he was the only Shinigami who defeated a Schutzstaffel member on his own without the intervention of the Auswahlen.

A Quincy invasion purging the Seireitei will do that. Especially with three of the lost Captains being First/Second generation captains in Yamamoto, Unohana, and Ukitake whose gap between them and the average captain class is worlds apart. The third squad lost what was likely their strongest captain as did the ninth division with Kaname and Gin in the Arrancar arc.

Rose, Shinji, and Kensei were simply returning their previous posts. I felt that Love should have returned to his previous position after TYBW. The fact the Visored were done so dirty is a disappointment as their hollow powers were a great answer to the Quincy.

Don't want to offend anyone but I always felt like the Vizards were just filling in the blanks for captains that were stronger than them. Seriously they were a huge let down in the final arc. Aizen, Gin and Tosen were more capable shinigami in every aspect

I think Izuru Kira should be considered among the strongest current vice-captains. If we consider the one-shot chapter from 13 Blades cannon he got modified by Mayuri after his death, also killed a Sternritter easily

Give my boy Shinji justice. Great strong character but unfortunately forgotten in TYBW. Lets hope hell chapter is going to fix this

The loss of Yamamoto alone makes it the weakest gotei

It's a perfect representation of a post war situation. All those captain posts were filled in haste so that the institutions will not be compromised. This makes it even more perfect than it actually is. This is a clear representation of how the Gotei has suffered and how from the remnant of its past glory it is trying to build itself. Reminds me of the poem where the captain of the ship dies but they win the war so the remaining members have to celebrate and rebuild at the same time they are sad for the said captain. I don't remember the poem's name unfortunately.

I was hoping that Hanataro would have become Lieutenant of the new Squad 4, considering that he's actually unlocked his zanpakuto and that it actually has some good healing capabilities. I know he's not that big of a character but it would've been nice to see

You definitely get the feeling that it was quickly slapped together because of all the sudden vacancies. Also it’s a shame that Renji didn’t take over the Seventh Division in my opinion. He’s earned it; way more than Iba. If he were the Captain, it wouldn’t look like such a weak Gotei.

A part of me feels it is pretty intentional to reduce the Gotei 13 into the state it became by the end of the main series. They're no longer the same group of powerhouses that do most of the heavy lifting for Ichigo and the gang. But this group is no longer as complacent and so sure of themselves like they were under Yamamoto. They learned they have to actually grow and develop overtime in order to be ready for future threats. It's a massive humbling experience but there's a payoff that'll come in the future as this new group will continue to learn.

Indeed, in terms of sheer firepower is a weaker gotei. But looking through a different perspective, I think its current state is a good pressure factor to push Soul Society evolution forward With figures such as Yama and Unohna around, they could afford being stiff and conservative, nowadays not so much. This final Gotei 13 concentrates less power and works out the world balance through collaboration of different races instead of coercion. Trickier to navigate, but our man Shunsui plays it with mastery

I always dislike that Isane did never done anything importance in the series even if she is in Medical Division, she never does any special. I amnt saying that Isane needs to defeat Aizen or kill Kenpachi but maybe she heals someone near of death. Maybe she heals an entire division. Maybe she cant be tricked or can cure dangerous poison or disease. Because let's be honest, nobody can be at same level as Orihime Inoe her "healing" has no match.

I think this is what maybe Kubo wants to address if he decides to continue the Hell arc. Basically during the war arc, the remnants of the older generations died off. Yamato, Unohana, Ukitake, and Komamura. Now you’ve got essentially the next younger generation taking over the reigns of the new gotei 13. What would be really interesting if the hell arc is pushed through, is Kubo bringing back the original 13 captains as he’s shown the concept art for them. Since the idea is that if a captain dies in battle, they’re reishi can’t return to the soul society and are sent to hell. Since the original 13 are said to be the strongest, it stands to believe they were all sent to hell so it would be a good story to have the original 13 captains take on the current captains. A challenge for them to see if they are truly worthy and ready to handle the role of being a captain of the soul society

i absolutely agree that this version of the gotei is the weakest so far, i also think it's a good position to start a new arc in, not only is there a lot of opportunity to raise the stakes but also lot's of potential for characters to prove themselves and new abilities to be shown

They unfortunately lost most of the old guard of captains which were strong and even someone on the mid tier side of power like Komamura. Its weird, captains like Byakuya, Toshiro and Kenpachi received major boost in power to the point outside of shunsui they clearly are not the peak of soul society in power but many of the new captains aren't just fearless but I doubt will surpass the levels most captains were st during the HM arc. Like I doubt insane or iba are top Soul Society Byakuya level who in the grand scheme of things wasn't that powerful. Their in such a weird spot right now due to how quickly they lost 4 captains with no ready replacements outside of maybe Renji who isn't leaving Byakuyas side

Yeah the loss of multiple senior captains was brutal not just in terms of sheer power but leadership skills as well, that being said Shunsui has his secret weapon sitting down in Muken just in case.

Shinji's biggest feat was almost seeing through Aizen's plan when basically no one else suspected him

I mean, losing 3 Senior Captains and ending up with at least 2 current Captains that are just regular Vice Captain level and probably lacking Bankai is pretty devastating, even if a lot of existing Captains have gotten a fair bit stronger over the years.

I would have preferred Love to take Iba's place and Seinosuke in Isane's place.

The story didn't make us care much about Rose and Kensei but I really feel sorry for Shinji. I think he deserved more, his chikai is interesting and combined with Hollow power he should be able to do more

I'm honestly hopeful for the the Hell arc and since I'm halfway through Can't Fear Your Own World cause Kubo can by all means really set up these unproven characters to do dope things I absolutely wanna see more from Iba, Isane and Lisa.

I think based off his short fight with aizen shinji is reasonably strong especially compared to some of the other mid tier captains he just gets done so wrong in thousand year blood war

Regardless, Ichigo kinda makes up any gap that would exist.

Kensei always had such a cool overall character design and even cooler bankai design. I wish his character was utilized better and had much better feats

Losing yama without a doubt crippled them. Like aizen said, yama literally represents the entire hx of the soul society and is both the foundation and the pinnacle of it. Yama, as far as power goes, would be impossible to make up for. Then you have unohana to boot

They just need to grow into their shoes. The Gotei 13 only really needs people capable of leadership and with at least enough power to take care of a few gillians at the moment.

Hitsugaya did not "master" his Bankai and his adult form was not something new he gained. It's made clear he always knew about and always had access to it. It's that his child body cannot handle the full power of his Bankai being released all at once, so it has to give his body time to accustom itself. Hitsugaya still cannot immediately access the full power of his Bankai at release and most likely won't be able to until his body has matured enough.

The weakness of the prewar gotei is they acted with honor in mind and wound up being unable to handle the Quincy who fought without honor. Shunsui will do whatever it takes to win. Unleash Aizen on the enemy? No problem

I think its not even debatable that Gotei 13 from turn back the pendulum is way weaker that the one we see in Soul Society arc, minly because that iteration of Gotei has probably the weakest Kenpach in the history of SS the 10th ken[pachi, guy that died from one hit from Zaraki. Also they have Vizord-to-be captains that represent what I call the standard lvl captain needs to be, whats we can tell is a minus because people like Byakuya, Toshiro, Ukitake, Kyoraku, Zaraki those are prodigies and geniuses that are born once for thousands maybe tens of thousand of years, born for greatnes

The vizards always felt like backup captains that don't have the power or charisma of the previous ones...

I think I would agree with your analysis of the overall strength and balance. I think that the end of series Gotei has a lot of upwards potential since there are so many unknowns. But the fact that, as written, the vizards overall ended up doing so little is a huge hit to their power. They should be pretty monstrous, but the story just didn't go that way.

I mean. I feel like Yamamoto carried the gotei any iteration that doesn’t have him is gonna be the weakest by default I think.

What is the point of this video ? What in actual hell is the POINT I am watching and hearing what you say 20:55 onward WHAT is the point of making this video when you are just talking about what have they done in the manga/anime so far it has nothing to do with if they are objectively stronger than other captains. Shinji's bankai is OP but not going into how is it's OP, how is this in anyway a good representation of them and their power level if you go by what have they done only and not what they are capable of doing. Just a waste of a 30 mins video... you always drag them out out for no reason I don't know I'm sick and tired of this I'm done man

I hope kubo chose them to be captains exactly to give them proper atention, because both isane and tetsuzaemon never showed their true powers but you get the feeling that they have a lot to show, isane always was the one executing the kidou's for unohana, always ready to do what has to be done (not to mention that unohana always avoided going drectly to the fight because she was supicious of something) while tetsuzaemon always paid a close watch to what komamura was doing adn having a great sense of duty, so I do think we will see them doing good on the new arc

I believe that Kubo will show off everyone's abilities in the Hell Arc

Well, does it really matter if they are? They’ve always speed-dialed Ichigo any time things got serious anyway. On another note, the new captains(including Isane) must’ve done some hardcore training during the ten year gap. Look what some other characters achieved in a few days. Imagine what they could’ve done in a decade.

I definitely agree 100%. In fact I think that's the point. Like you said, this is a time of rebuilding after a major conflict and there was a power vacuum that had to be filled. Szaylapporo outright confirmed that the reason why Hell's gates were blown open was because of the sudden shift in power. Suddenly a bunch of powerful people in the soul society were either "relocated" to hell or sealed away. This new generation of the Gotei 13 is set up to face the legacy of their predecessors. Additionally, they need to prove themselves by resolving a problem that their predecessors never had to face.

I've got theory that one of the conditions for the visards returning to the soul society was that under no circumstance were they to don their hollow masks ever again, which is why we never see them again even when they are straight up dying

I guess this is the problem when we've got such a huge cast of characters and the author having to rushing things. Bleach went Game of Thrones with the body count during the Thousand Year Blood War Arc.

I definitely feel that Lisa, Iba and Isane are not Captain material.

I feel it would've been better if Hachi were there, one of the more useful Vizard with his Kido expertise. Also with Urahara gone maybe Yoruichi and Tessai could come back to help, the latter maybe heading up the Kido corps again. Maybe even some of the Fullbringers who are now in Soul Society. I also hope Komamura can return some day, somehow, maybe even stronger. I wonder why Renji wasn't made captain given his power and the situation. The weakest of the new Captains seems to be Tetsuzaemon but maybe he's improved alot in the time skip and can actually do something.

I think this version of the gotei might be stronger than all others. although in theory, previous gotei versions had much more fighting potential, often times it is never utilized until it is too late. leadership, and the ability to act or hold can turn a fighting force from trash to gold and vice versa. it is no doubt that yamamoto, yachiru, and ukitake had enormous fighting potential but they arent used. yachiru is only used for kenpachi's growth and never fights anyone else. Yamamoto really only kills the monster in the arrancar arc and is often set in his old ways so he doesnt take action immediately. Ukitake is always sick out of commision. the people who replace them, isane is still a healer and a non fighter so that role is equivalent to unohana's role since we never see unohana fight. ukitake is replaced by rukia who is always fighting so thats an addition. and kyoraku may not be as strong but he initiates so much strategy, action, leads and is unorthodox willing to break rules so that he isnt stagnant. Then of course the Captains like Kenpachi who showed he is able to beat tousen and komamura at the same time, is even more powerful now. toshiro and kuchiki are similar in that they grew exponentially more powerful. And as you said Mayuri is still an X-factor of fight potential. Rose, shinji, kensei, suifon are still captain level fighters and have high potential although portrayed poorly. Iba is just as strong or stronger than Ikakku from their spar/brawl in the soul society arc. Lisa is in theory strong. so the upper crust potential fight power is lessened without the oldest captains, but the current leadership allows them to use all the power they have immediately and isnt afraid to use everything at his disposal to succeed.

By far. Without a doubt. A new captain commander. Two captains that by their own admission aren't really ready for the position of captain and unless theres a retcon, 4 of the current captains obtained bankai only very recently. And effectively no captains with long term experience besides Kyoraku. Yes you got a prodigy in Hitsuguya, a very solid captain in Byakuya, and a monster in Zaraki, and even 4 vizards. But when Hitsuguya is still implied to have alot of maturing still to do. The vizards, who are supposed to have the edge, are some of the most underwelming captains overall. And one of the ones who has the most experience is Soi Fon. You're really looking at an underwelming generation. Thats not even going into all the duds and rookies that make up most of the vice-captains.

I really hope they make the vizard captains but up for of a fight in the anime. The outcomes can still remain the same but the fights they participate in wont result them getting absolutely washed

When trying to gauge strength, it becomes a bit difficult when some writing choices intervene with the scaling. Vizards have all just been.. under-utilized, for the most part. Or been made an example - like in the blood war. Doesn't actually tell much of anything about their power is the thing.

Yes. Its the worst. Being promoted to capt was never having your capt die. Its was achieving bankai. So how lisa iba and tall chick become capt. (I can see tall chick. She must be best healer now) and how many non capt know bankai? Renji was low capt lvl after SS arc then at the end he was super boosed bankai made him top capt lvl. BUT HE STILL LT.?

Short answer: yes. Iba and Lisa as Captains is god awful writing while Renji and Hisagi waste away as VC’s.

The video is all over the place. And Shunsui especially is seriously underrated here. Also not building up Shinji after the amount of hype given to him as the leader of the vizards is one of many issues with Kubo's writing.

One thing I love about these current captains. Is that we moved onto ice being the tone of the gotei 13. Back in the day it was Fire because of General Yamato. Now it’s Rukia and 10th squad cpt being great frozen power houses

I'd say its honestly close. for post arancar and now.... like it cannot be understated the power growth the current cast went through to surpass the quincy. Like Rukia's Bankai could theoretically one shot nearly any character, and zaraki as he stands is worth more than his prior strength and unohana's combined. Even with the vizards being used as power scales for enemies throughout the series. you're basically comparing three of them to Air as arancar arc was still missing 3... and though they have lost all there fights its good to note they were once captains, so even if they couldnt top espada or sternritter, which is all theyve really gotten to try and fight other than ichigo hollowfying (which they could all hold out against pretty well [iirc most notably Lisa and Kensei]) & we do know what hollow ichigo could do too... like just ask ulquiorra It truly comes down to can the new blood and grown power make up for what was lost in Yamamoto, which I dont think they do in raw power output, but in terms of capability, id argue they might. with the combanation of Increased power and range of abilities.... Like once again absolute zero is a fucking insane power in anyones hands... The current group regains the powers they lost with aizen for decepion and sensory manipulation with shinji and Rose (even if no where on the same scale) 4&7 are the only two that I'd say feel weak. but thats cause weve never seen them fight. I will say Tetsu IIRC he was a sparing partner for ikaku so hes got a degree of strength even if hes weak comparatively to other captains.... as for vice captains the only vice captain that could hold a candle to the current line up was probably the first division captain ofthe past... which honestly Renji is likely stronger than alone.... then after all the others that could have only gotten stronger, we actually have a vice captain under kenpachi, as yachiru wasnt a person, nor was "she" impressive) adding Ikaku, another Bankai wielder is crazy good for their ranks... It feels like the only downgrades are the 1st, 12th, & 13th as they were the only vices (still not here) that ever showed a strong capability..... The 4&7's vices never really showed capacity anyway.... and like mentioned before the growth of existing characters seems to outweight the difference of them missing to any capacity the newbies could hold (they could be air imo and wed still be stronger) Will say as final lil bit. i find a lot of these conversations fall back on raw power levels, and ignore utility quite often, and to remind how useful utility can be i will bring up the fact that aizen wasnt the strongest (though still powerful) when he pieced out with the hyogyoku. He played his cards right to attain his unstopable power and come back to try and kill the captains

Seem to forget one major thing here... this Gotei 13 can call on Ichigo. I mean he was the backup plan for the Soul King. While not IMMEDIATELY seen as on the same level, he has grown closer and closer to Yamamoto's level.

The last Gotei 13 is definitely the weakest. For example, Isane and Rukia are strong in their own right, but they definitely don’t compare to Unohana and Ukitake. BUT I think the current Gotei 13 is a lot better at building and running a society. Original Gotei 13 were hardcore killers, while current Gotei 13 has the compassion to help Soul Society heal. Edit: also, even though the Gotei 13 is weaker, Soul Society is still well protected when you consider help from outside Gotei 13. Ichigo, Urahara, Yoruichi, Isshin, even Aizen, can be called on to protect Soul Society from outside invasions, so it helps make up for a good chunk of the power gap.

We lost Yama. Gin was a beast. AIZEN. Zaraki balances out losing Unohana. Renji is ok. Rukia irrelevant. Toshiro is a beast, but we lost ukitake and Komamura. They are weaker.

As much as I agree with all that is said in the video, like missing Yama, Unohana, and the like, I strongly believe that the Visored Captains just had the bad luck of facing opponents that are somewhat out of their league, Kensei fought Wonderweiss, an arrancar designed to fight Yamamoto, him and Rose both fought Mask de Masculine which in many ways is similar to Gerard Valkyrie that is essentially immortal, Shinji fought Aizen which come on now, even the Gotei 13 captains got washed by him, and the explode girl (forgot her name) which he could've theoretically beat with bankai and because he was restricted to use it, he lacked in power severely, and also didn't he get up and helped the others after he got blasted? Or am I remembering wrong? I think it's also Kubo's fault for really using the Visoreds as like a gauge for how strong the enemies are.

This honestly did upset me a good bit because the visords with hollow mask had soooo much potential especially after the few years they were captains

You're talking about the characters in each formation, but not how strong they were at the time. I don't think the Soul Society Arc version of the Gotei is even close to the power levels by the end of the series. The invasion would have stopped with Ichigo dying against Ikaku if they had the power level they had by the end of the series.

They kind of are but their head captain this time is a creative thinker. He's laid back but strict unlike Yama he'd probably accept the help of Orihime anytime of he needs her.

It’s the weakest, yes. But it makes up for it by having Ichigo on speed dial, I think. Unless I am remembering something wrong. But yeah having an Ichigo is about as good as you’re gonna get short of having a Yamamoto.

I miss Gin!! T___T he is such a strong character with a awesome bankai.

One thing I never understood was why Iba became the captain of the 7th division when love would've been a stronger and better choice as he already has experience as a captain.

It's just a shame it took a filler arc for us to get a legitimately good showing of how strong non humanized komamura could actually be.

The Power Escalation was pretty dumb in the TYBW arc so Post-TYBW Kenpachi, Byakuya and Hitsugaya could probably rip apart the SS-Arc Gotei 13(Without Aizen and Yamamoto) by themselves. Even without Captain Rukia one-hitting literally everyone with her Bankai and such. But the Old Man is so stupidly powerful that the current Gotei 13 might be the weakest by the simple drawback of not having him. So I’m still pretty undecided on this topic.

In Isanes defense tho her division is A Medic Division. And she was trained by Unohana and even praised by her for her extremely extraordinary healing skills. True we almost never see Isane do anything but the statement still stands that she is the 3rd best Healer the Gotei13 ever had (yes i am including the zero division guy).

I really wish Love would have been chosen as the “new” squad 7 captain with Iba as the vice captain because like you said he literally hasn’t done anything. I also think having Hiyori be the vice captain for squad 8 would have been a nice pairing with Lisa. The two brand new vice captains seem interesting but maybe not necessary. Just my personal opinion.

I will have to disagree here. I think the weakest version of the gotei is the one during the arrancar arc. I realise that Unohana and Yamamoto were big assets, HOWEVER during this video you say that "oh well, the new one is sooooo divided whereas all these other versions are somewhat balanced." That logic can be applied to the fake karakura town arc gotei 13, easily. When you think back to how the captains used to be before they got many power ups, it really boils down to: Which captains during fake karakura town were actually above "low captain"? So let's set an arbitrary power scaling system I'll try to fairly grade everyone on: pseudo (captain - like SS Tousen, Hitsugaya or Pre-Ichigo fight Kenpachi) low mid high ultimate supreme Ascended (Being Ichigo TYBW and Aizen, Yhwach obviously too) So let's count them then for Karakura town arc: Hitsugaya - Low (for scaling in the grand scheme) Kenpachi - Low Byakuya - Low Komamura - Low Soi Fong - Low Yamamoto - Ultimate/Supreme Unohana - High (again you'll see for scaling) Shunsui - High/Ultimate Ukitake - High Mayuri - Mid So, one incredible powerhouse near Supreme and then 3 high, one mid. Rest pretty trash tier. Let's compare this to post TYBW team up: Hitsugaya - Ultimate (the strongest ice zanpakuto vs strongest fire type? it's definitely a match. Though I think Yama is stronger still) Byakuya - High/Ultimate (Still weaker than Yama though) Kenpachi - Ultimate/Supreme (the literal power to have up to infinite physical strength, so long as you can withstand is extremely OP. Him and Yama relative IMO) Shunsui - Ultimate (the hax ability to defeat anyone if you outlast them in a reiatsu contest - and truthfully he could rival Yamamoto's - I mean Lille was a literal divine entity. Not to mention he has fought Yamamoto in shikai and held his own before) Rukia - Mid/High (truly, she is probably still weaker than Ukitake and Unohana were, but I think she's not that much below with how OP her Zanpakuto is and Soul Palace did wonders to everyone's training) Kensei - Low Rose - Low Iba - Pseudo/Low Lisa - Low Shinji - Mid Isane - Pseudo/Low Soi Fong - Mid (Yes, I think after time skip) Mayuri - High With a bit of scaling, you should clearly see how this is believable and I believe this to roughly be a correct status of everyone. 1 near Supreme, 3 Ultimate/ near Ultimate ones, 2 high captains, 2 mid and rest are pretty much trash tier for end of series levels. If you think about it, in the final battles, all of the ones I labelled Ultimate/Supreme had fought gods that not even Yamamoto should be able to defeat but they did well against them nevertheless, so I think they deserve that kind of placement. For Kenpachi, I'm assuming he's got better control over his Zanpakuto and Bankai now. In fact, the usual time frame for mastering bankai is 10 years... and he must be relatively stronger just in base after 10 years anyway. So should Hitsugaya and Byakuya and Rukia since the TYBW. Mayuri is always inventing so of course he's stronger in a decade. Plus there's Renji, who's - High now for sure. Renji defeated Mask who easily fucked up Kensei... and then powered up like 5 times and still got splattered by Renji. He's likely stronger than Rukia and yet again- has had even more time to train and also master his bankai better. He also fought and presumably stalemated Bazz-B who I'd say is definitely one of the strongest, if not the strongest "non-elite" Stern Ritter. Again by scaling, this makes absolute sense to me. 2 year time skip captains were obviously stronger than their previous selves and they still got whooped by the Stern Ritter at first. The "normal" Stern Ritters definitely ranged from Low to High, again because most of them were quite a bit stronger than the captains pre-soul palace power up. And then the captains proved just how much stronger they did get when they fought the elite SR - who btw defeated Squad 0, who were all obviously freakish. Plus they showcased incredible might - simple as that. To explain a bit more, I left a place between Ultimate and Ascended, as I feel most of the Elite Stern Ritter would place very well into Supreme. Characters like Ichibei too. They were just that strong but I have absolutely no doubts that both Ichigo and Aizen would be able to overtax their abilities - Aizen would figure something out and we don't even know what Ichigo's bankai is capable of, but Yhwach was scared of it so it must be very powerful. Furthermore, Aizen and Ichigo are both ascended beings as the name suggests. They pretty much can't be harmed by normal reiatsu or attacks, so that would probably counteract the elite's insane abilities. But anyways, I do think Karakura town Gotei is the weakest. In fact, Soul society Gotei and new Gotei are probably pretty relative, if I had to guess. And yeah, I imagine most of the "first" Gotei 13 would be comprised of "high" level and above members. I also imagine there were likely a couple of them able to challenge Yamamoto, maybe one of them could've even been stronger. They probably were the strongest version. And the weakest captain currently just has to be either Iba or Isane. At least Lisa kinda fought Halibel, Rose actually went up against numero uno, Kensei gets messed up but he seems somewhat powerful for all the feats when he's not bodied... Iba and Isane were both vice captains previously and they had nothing impressive to showcase in the entire series. Iba got body bagged by Ayon and with just one Cero, Isane got stomach pumped by (soul society) Ichigo and passed out even after activating shikai lol, and she's definitely more of a healer. I remember some intense training was implied to have been done by Iba at least, plus he seems more impressive, so I'm going with Isane being the weakest currently.

I don't think being strong or just mastering Bankai is enough to qualify for any position as captain renji for example can't just take the position of leader of the medical division cause he knows next to nothing about healing or leading the medical division.

As a follow up, you should build the most powerful version of the Gotei, could be say 1000 YBW Yama, End of Series Aizen, Etc.

It's a W, rukia mastered her bankai for sure by the end, byakuya became much stronger than before because of the Royale palace, rukia is definitely stronger than ukitake who we haven't even seen many feats from and adult toshiro plus bankai kenpachi are heavy hitters, both of them would be stronger than Yamamoto if they mastered there bankai which I think they did shunsui being the head captain was not a W as I think Yamamoto is stronger than shunsui. Edit: forgot unohana, kenpachi with shikai is much stronger than unohana so that doesn't really matter.

I have a feeling Lisa became a captain due to nepotism form her old captain. Hisagi and Abarai would wipe the floor with some of the current captains ,Madarame perhaps as well

It all depends on how strong one views Yamamoto. Kenpachi is now stronger than Unohana, Toshiro who's a god damn monster with his adult form that could very well outclass Kenpachi, Byakuya is also within the same weight class. Three Captains now stronger than the prior second strongest in the Gotei.

I think kubo wants to change gotei 13 from raw power group to more strategical and tactical one if you just think of it even with the likes of yama and unohana they can't defeat the quincies but with just strategy and working with others as a group kyukaku manage to have a fighting chance training kempachi and asking help with ichigo, aizen and uruhara they defeat the quincy. If u compare it to yamamoto he would not try it because of his pride thats why he loss. he think he's too powerful that his bankai cannot be stolen and he was outsmarted by ywatch and also by aizen in the previous arc showing that intellect can defeat opponent that defends only to raw power.

Honestly I'd say that they are fine as is because the threat of Aizen and the quincies are now mostly gone, plus a lot of the captains are strong enough to carry the gotei 13 (not literally)

Lisa TO ME AT LEAST, one who deserves the position as the captain. She is VERY experienced, she showed she can handle on her own against Harribel. Who I remind you, IN HER RELEASED FORM. She was actually at one point facing her alone, when Toshiro and Hiyori argued. Her Shikai gives her the same range as Ikkaku. True she did not win ANY FIGHT, but that's not what determent if she ready to be a captain. You have to look with her overall abilities as a Soul Reaper and how well she can think in a battle. So TO ME she deserves this position.

I definitely think the soul society gotei 13 were the strongest that we saw. Yamamoto, Aizen, Gin, Unohana, I can go on but you get the point. That is such an insane lineup just imagine if the Vandenreich had invaded at that point (and assuming Aizen and his bois fight for the Gotei)

If we are talking direct power then yea.. thats what happens in war everyone loses. The gotei is weaker than ever naturally. But if we are talking about an actual unified gotei then i feel this might be the "strongest" unit of a gotei. There is no captains potentially betraying the gotei, a modern captain commander who is more practical and less prideful and then we have upgraded captains and vice captains who could step in to fill some of the power void.

Eh I don't think so. Just Byakuya and Kenpachi alone would pretty beat anyone from the previous Gotei 13, Torshiro is insane too. They're actually stronger, because the stronger captains just scale so much higher. Kenpachi learned bankai and he killed Unohana. Byakuya is fking insane where his shikai is as strong as his previous bankai and he can hide it around terrain to set up traps, also his speed has increased dramatically, catching both Royal trained Rukia and Renji off guard by just how fast he was. I put him as the strongest captain right now, his bankai is just too versitile and op. Torshiro is going to be a beast when he matures.

Yes I mean there is no real argument as by the end of TYBW it’s lost most of its biggest hitters (Yamamoto, Unohana and Ukitake, even though Ukitake was Ill he was able to stand toe to toe with the old man and his knowledge was a powerhouse by itself). I think the strongest we ever saw the 13 was in turn back the pendulum as we had the 3 that we lost by tybw and we have both Aizen and Urahara, yes their not all showing their full powers/potential yet but that power is still there (we also have people like Gin that are in the ranks even if their not a seated officer yet)

Everyone talks about Yama being OP but forget the comparison to Toshiro and his bankai being very similar. Multiple characters remind us that he's still a child. Give him 100 years, as they stated and he will be a monster. Now think about 1000 years.

I feel like kudos new selection was well thought out. These characters who now are cptains like iba who we see almost nothing from have room to be shown off in New ways iba seems lazy but there was evidence he had bonkai way back when ichigo invaded people came we never hear his zompokuto but in a seen where he's talking to himself he poses a question to a named person but no one is there instead of giving ikaku and rengi captain seats he gave it to practically blank characters speaking of iba I noticed kubo draws characters who have secret history with similar accents a good example is kensei and hisagi or the two kenpachi with their ornamental black hair. Iba wears the same girder as the sqad 0 guy and they both have that yakuza vibe felt like I'd put that out there

The Gotei 13 will probably never be as powerful as it was during the Soul Society Arc. Losing 3 captains was bad enough, but you tack on Yamamoto, Unohana and Ukitake, those are powerful, veteran captains that can’t be replaced. The Vizards and promoted Vice-Captains don’t measure up to their predecessors. Even when you add Zaraki’s Bankai, Toshiro’s Complete Bankai, and the captains who trained at the Soul King’s Palace, I don’t think that makes up for the combined loss of those other character. IMO Tetsuzaemon Iba is the weakest current captain. Though, this is a now peaceful Gotei 13. Though it was a huge detriment during the TYBW, they are bound to grow lax during peace. Aizen is defeated and imprisoned. Yhwach and the Quincy are gone. Hueco Mundo is relatively peaceful. Everything, at least until New Breaths from Hell, is pretty much safe.

Tho I agree this is by far the weakest gotei we see I do also believe it has the potential to grow and be the strongest we've really seen don't get me wrong I don't think we'll ever see a gotei on the level of the original this one could be second to it if many characters step up and prove themselves and I do actually believe this is because of the death of yamma with the knowledge they have gained from the war they know to strive to be stronger which is something I think they lost with yamma at the helm but I hope we do see a more refined version of this gotei in the future

Great points! Fantastic video. Yama, Unohaha, Aizen, Gin, Urahara & Yoruichi are such massive losses in terms of strength/leadership. As always I gotta stand up for my girl Soi Fon. While lacking in raw strength/reaitsu for fights against the Big Bads she is a tremendous Captain overall. Perhaps this view is partially colored by Omake & Filler & Movies but I always got the feeling that Old Man Yama put a lot of stock in Soi Fon's abilities/competence. If Yama counts on her then that's good enough for me. Always felt like Soi Fon often acts on Yama's direct orders for several of her various appearances. Also explains her "childish" outburst at the meeting right after Yama's death. I think she respected Yama more than most. After Yoruichi left all she had was her work, fully dedicated to her role & Yama took note of that dedication. She has a clown of a VC who only got the position through Nepotism/Wealth so she basically carries the division herself even with the extra responsibility of the Stealth Force. Even so she gets assigned to take on the #2 Espada on Yama's Order. For reference prodigy Toshiro & future Captain Commander Kyoraku+Ukitake are assigned to #3 & #1 respectively. Shunko & Suzumebachi is incredibly powerful when not fighting absolute top tier OP characters like Aizen. Hell even Aizen gave her speed a back handed compliment. I think she is an excellent Captain even amongst the younger Captains like Hitsugaya & Byakuya & Gin. Also her Regai's fight with Komamura is Dope AF.

Yamamoto to Shunsui - the best for next in line, but still a downgrade to Yama sadly Unohana to Isane - LOL idk what to say, probably the worst downgrade of all time Gin to Rose - lmao what an absolute disappointment Rose turned out to be ***Aizen to Shinji - This seems a bit of an unfair comparison all things considered, so I'll put an asterisk next to it Tosen to Kensei - both weaker captains for me so not that much of a loss IMO Shunsui to Lisa - oops I literally forgot about this character, don't need to say much more Komamura to Iba - Literally who is Iba. Why tf is he a captain Ukitake to Rukia - eh i guess, at least Rukia can fight without coughing up blood so wee bit of W? Most of the promoted characters are just unexplored characters who were on the weaker side at their best moments. I wonder if the power ups to the likes of Byakuya, Kenpachi, Renji, Toshiro make up for anything. I don't put much weight into the strength of the vice captains so whatever.
