Welcome to this series of videos reviewing electric car chargers. Today's video is a review of the EVBox Elvi an EVSE charger from a company in the Netherlands. Who's box claims "i'm the only charger you'll ever need' It has some clearer features to back that up with removable and replaceable faceplates which hold all the tech that may be, tethered unit or swapping it out for un tethered. It could be a list of new tech or something as simple as you want a new colour. The product was let down by 1 key factor however.
To find an installer right for you go to rightcharge.co.uk/evnick
The charger seen in this review was requested by EVNick from EVBox, all chargers in this series were requested from the companies for review. No control over the content was made, no agreements were signed. As am sure my viewers understand it wouldn't be possible to purchase all chargers for review.

Is there any reason for setting Minimum Charge Current to 6A? Why not set both minimum and maximum to 16A if it is installed as a 11kW charger?
@NicolasRaimo
@NicolasRaimo 2 года назад
@@MovieViking in the UK it be installed as a 32amp charger, and you may set limit to 6a during the day say you have solar generation or high loads working during certain times of the day
@MovieViking
@MovieViking 2 года назад
@@NicolasRaimo Yes, but a limit is the maximum setting. What I'm curious about is why the installers set a minimum of 6A on a 20A fused/capable installation and not just leave minimum and maximum both at 16A? I know the car requires 6A to be present for it to charge, but why should I wait for the car and the box to negotiate ramping up from 6A to 16A each time I plug it in.

I've just put a link to this on the Polestar UK Facebook forum as there are quite a few people asking about EV chargers. I always find your videos very informative without trying to be overly technical, perfect for most EV owners. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series.

If no PEN fault detection, you should get matte unit installed along side if on a TN earthing system.👍

Hey Nick. Regarding recharging.... What are the requirements for charging the Zoe ZE40 and/or the ZE50? People here says the Zoe are kinda nitpicking with chargers, the installation needs a ground with differential X, resistance Y, and always tri-phase. Or can the Zoe be recharged with a portable charger, or simple wallbox, like the charger that comes with a Chevy Bolt?

I believe it’s under 50 Ohms from memory for the earth. All chargers need L/N/E to charge just some cars neglect to check the earth as they suspect the charger socket would check that. I’ve seen people fool chargers into working on generators by joining the earth to N. A zoe can charge on the portable 3 pin 10 amp granny cables there’s a video of me charging on via here

I have this unit, however I wanted to use octopus intelligent tariff, but they don't recognise this charger as capable, I think it allows octopus to intelligently charge the car at cheap rates, can anyone advise on this ?....I use octopus go just now which is fixed cheap rate overnight for 4 hours.

Is there a way to (automatically) down regulate this EVBox so it can charge at 1.4kw when connected as 3phase (when solar panels don't produce enough energy to charge at 3x6A)?

it was a while since I reviewed this charger so am going from memory but I think you could do it in the charge schedule section and I mentioned it in the video

hi, do you have to use a EVBOX account or can you just have it as a home unit to connect straight too and charge.

When reviewing kit like this you should find out and state what happens if their service goes down - what functionality remains. There is an increasing trend for products to be rendered useless when an online service shuts down.

Hi Mike as mentioned in the video you can choice the backend system of your choice even down to your own back office so no issue there as the back office is programmed in the installers app via Bluetooth

How can such a big unit still not have the necessary device built into it to eliminate an earth rod? Just wouldn't even get considered to be fitted.

I have this charger and think it’s rubbish (functionality wise). But you’ve just told me lots of things it can do that I didn’t know! I better find the manual and read it 🤓. Is there a way to use it without the rfid card? I just want to plug in and charge, i cannot find any way of doing it.

Doesnt look much room to bend cables into the terminals. I'll never install one anyway as it doesn't have PEN fault detection. Be nice if you could get hold of a Hypervolt charger to review as they look a cheaper alternative to the Zappi, especially when they get load protection sorted.
@NicolasRaimo
@NicolasRaimo 3 года назад
Hi Mick there is more room in there than you think remember it can take armour 5 core plus cat cables so plenty of options. You could fit it a long side a Matt-e or a Garo device but for a commercial site your likely as you know not to need PEN as most sites be on there own earthing arrangements. The build quality of this unit is so far the best of all the units I’ve reviewed
