I am the original owner of an evo 8-bone stock accept for MR wheels and suspension. It has 195,000 miles on it. It has been my daily driver for 21 years, I am 82 years old and the Evo puts a smile on my face every time I drive it!
It’s funny when I brought mine I never intended it to be a daily driver. But it’s ended up being one and it’s simply because it makes driving fun again! I’ve got a Range Rover vogue and an E63. The stock evo is slow in comparison but for a daily it’s been amazing. The kids love it too. The manual box and fact you have to actually concentrate when driving it really makes me enjoy driving again. One other major think I like about this over my modern cars is it’s visibility! You can see everything. Anyway that’s my 2 cents. Definitely not for everyone but for me it’s the perfect daily. Cheers
The evo wasn’t built to be comfy or luxury. It was built to race. A lot of ppl complain about it not having features like some cars. I can live without cruise control. Or fancy infotainment system. And as for DD to some it’s awful but to me I love it. Also when driving the amount of attention it get 😁
I think the watered down point is very important. There was a moment where I had to daily my evo 9 and although I loved driving it, it became dull on a daily basis. Now that it's my weekend car, I look forward to ripping in it to meets and such. Good vid.
Smashed the video bro. In my early twenties, I had a 480hp evo 8 and my commute used to be 45 mins of twisty b roads rarely any traffic, it was a BLAST every time I left the house. But honestly mostly it felt like I was going to work just to put fuel in to get there 🤣
Never had hill assist, don't use cruise control, don't do the signal thing when changing lanes, been in plenty of cheap interiors, driven mainly trucks so the bad turn radius doesnt scare me. Where do i sign haha Main cons for me are the maintenance intervals, mostly 60k for the timing belt. Its 105k in my accord, and that wasn't a very fun job
I originally brought mine as a weekend car but my daily broke so the evo turned into the daily 😅 I’d say they are a good daily as long as it’s close to stock and you don’t beat on it everyday. They are a pretty strong car all round, if you are just driving it I don’t see any real problem
Couldn’t agree more CJ. I had to daily my Evo for about a month and a half after moving here to WA. Each day I hopped into it while daily driving it, it would lose that much more lust. You gotta do what you gotta do, but getting a separate daily was the best move I’ve made. Solid video man, I see you stepping outside of your comfort zone 💯
To add, I've daily driven my 8 for 2 years now, and have had virtually no issues in it's initial stock form. It's actually been a great car, but the consistency has definitely made the experience of the car lack luster. After parking it for sometime and getting back into the car, I've really had a fresh taste on everything that makes this car so amazing and I can't ever seeing myself without it. It's an amazing platform, that's easy to work on and does absolutely everything you want it to do. After modifications, the ease definitely changes and I would never *recommend* anyone to buy one as a daily driver as it can be problematic AND overall noisy. As this car does derive as a homologated racecar. But I would guarantee that anyone who has ever driven one, would've fall in love with it right away. Cheers. Edit: Me and @yeeeevo are local to each other, and surprisingly these cars are super plentiful in this area, enough to have a fairly large community to exchange help and parts with locally. It's a massive live saver for the on hand knowledge and cost saving of OE and aftermarket parts for these cars.
Great video and a beautiful car! The turn radius and the fact that I run a 6 puck clutch makes me drive the car only 2-3 times a week. If I have to go to a place and I know that the street is wide and I will find a big parking lot when I reach the destination, then 100% the Evo. But for things in the city center like post office etc no way, I get my wife's Toyota IQ. Being a legendary car, everybody turns their head when you drive by, especially teenagers. But hey, we were once those teenagers looking at an iconic car dreaming of driving it one day! It's a very analog car, a driver's car in other words, not many cars will give you the thrill of an Evo. I've been 8 times for track driving, each time it feels better and better!
i move from an lancer es (2004) to an evo8 (2008), never ever looked back from my first lancer (13 years of driving). my love from my old lancer moved to my evo and will never change! Mitsubishi 4 life!
Some pros would be -great visibility -not many computer modules to go wrong like the newer cars have. -engine is not cramped and easy to work. -big trunk space -spacious inside
Two things id like to add being stock for the CT9A chassis its very safe with the AYC ACD AWD, its also very reliable, Ive actually had my Evo 8 FQ300 and Evo 6.5 TME RS for 2yrs between them both and ive spent less than 800usd in maintenance combined probably less actually. Both very safe and reliable and im poor all the time because i have 2 sti ras a prodrive and gc8 coupe sucking all my money up haha FQ is on 250,000ks TME RS 125,000ks
Hey brother just bought an evo and it’s got some top end mods. Makes about 350. Could you check out the build and see if it’d be good for a daily and what I should do to it?
I’ve got something a little different not sure you see them much but I have the evo 9 wagon, it drives ok on fuel depending on how you drive it. If you drive it hard the fuel will dwindle fast but if you drive it relaxed you will get further. The evo is based off a race car it was not ment to be flash inside. You want comforts the evo isn’t for you. If you want a good car, handles well and is fun to drive get one for sure. I’d love a sedan but love my wagon a lot. Like I said not sure if you get evo wagons in the states but you cant go wrong with one if you are a enthusiast
Former Evo VIII owner here. With a stock clutch it's a breeze to drive. The turning circle doesn't help in tighter parking spots. Suspension is OK but it mostly depends how the roads are where you live. I had a 200 mile urban range which was ridiculous tbh (mild mods but needed a tune). Cabin noise in the car is relatively intrusive on longer trips especially with a noisier exhaust. Interior is spartan; I remember people warning me as I was looking to sell my E46 M3 to get into an Evo. Maintenance can get expensive if something goes wrong mechanically (diff, turbo, engine, gearbox etc.). I never launched the car and mostly did 2nd gear pulls. No regrets though as the thrills it brings are greater than the negatives. Anyway, the older you get the less you'll want to drive it as a daily.
Im the original owner of a Evo 8 and driven it as my daily driver since 2004. Its a very versatile car and i love the awd but the wear and tear makes it less reliable. Just got a S2k to let my evo rest on the weekends.
I have an Evo 9 FQ340 which I've owned for 10 years. I daily it but if I had the option to get another car (which I don't because I live in the centre of London, England and don't have the additional parking space) then I would definitely get myself another car to run daily and have my Evo just for weekend drives.
I agree with that. But on stock suspension like my evo 8 is and stock clutch. It has a nice double din with rear view camera. Little touches to update things a little. I bought mine for a weekends and they are great cars I love mine. And if I want to look cool and pick up friends I can with the 4 doors 😂
Yes they have 4 doors, but at least for me it's essentially a coupe lol, since I don't like having anybody in the back 😅 Back seats and floor are for groceries 🤣
That’s why I have a 3rd gen Tacoma ❤ so I can just drive this bae on the weekends only maybe someeeee fridays I’m thinking of buying one end of this year I’ll post it
I daily'd a evo x for about 5 years, now I use my wifes car as a daily, and I will say it seems A LOT better with amenities than the 8/9s. I do have the SSL package too so that helps a lot. it is 100% stock motor, just coils and cusco chassis support bars, and it's a train on wheels and still is quick. I will say though, the watered down comment is 100% true, it took 5 years for me, but the power level now is getting to be a bit slow. I'm looking to go e85 + ~400whp this year to liven the car up a bit
Thanks for sharing bro. I appreciate the feedback. 400 is more than enough, honestly. E85 is only worth it if it’s readily available. For me it’s 2 hours away and I have to make trips to with jugs lol.
When I originally bought my evo, it was a good daily driver. But when I had to change the clutch due to power adders, the clutch pedal was harder to press and it removed the comfort for daily driving.
Yea man.. Everyone wants to be a hardcore manual guy until that gets old. I’ve never even owned and automatic and am highly considering a simple, automatic daily..
I've had mine for about 12 years now, and I am currently putting sound deadening in it. I also ordered a single disk clutch and will swap with my current twin disk. I am also putting an android head unit in it. My biggest complaint with daily driving it is the lack of cushioning for the door and center arm rest. There is zero cushioning and will hurt your elbows on any trips. Somehow I daily drove this for years in my early 20's, I'm now 36 and hardly drive it lol.
youll love it, i put sound deadening in mine in 2012 and ill never go back, still loud but other people that own evos tell me its one of the quietest evos theyve ridden in and im str8 piped lol
I'm about to pick one up that will be my slight daily, I will have a second car tho 👀 I also had a 9th gen si before too. All around a bunch of fun cars.
@@CJ2X I ended up picking it up, rest salv car with 140k. It’s so far been great! Needs a engine tuneup / refresh forsure but I totally get what your video is about. If you are the type of person who gets annoyed about nvh and interior quality etc it would be an annoyance. But like you mentioned it’s an awesome feeling car and if you aren’t driving it everyday It will forsure keep its enjoyment factor high! ❤ excellent videos man
only bad thing is cruise control and mpg besides that didnt hear any issues imma def sell my brz which i daily turboed and all that ect for one been wanting a evo before they get wiped
I daily'd my Evo for 3 years and put 40k+ miles on it. I enjoyed it and it was reliable over 400awhp. I definitely had a heavy foot but I did take good care of it as well. At 32 years old though and with parts prices today I definitely wouldn't recommend it as a daily lol...
@@CJ2X When i had TRE build me a 5 speed over xmas to replace my 6 speed, jon told me he only had 8 4.11 finals left lol said he didnt know if he was getting any more lol
For me, this car is one of the best that has ever come out. I recommend that if you hate the car so much, get out of it, but you have said that about that car that is not true.
Apart from the MPG being so bad, all the bad points are non issue. Never use 3 signal blink in my life. Never had hill start assist in my car. Never had heated mirror in my life. Have been driving manual for a since first car
My daily is a 2006 wrx, slight mods, and a sparco seat. I should be good, but I'll have to buy a winter beater; scarred of that rust people talk about. I just want an EVO 😭
11-12 yr owner and my evo never runs for more than 6 months at a time and then ends up sitting for 2 years 😅 and then repeat 🫣 but it was 1 of 4-5 cars so its not the top of my priority list too, school is 😅🥺 rip
The way I read this is: Driving the old fashion way. It’s not bad, just don’t expect modern technology 😊 But you get everything that a regular daily doesn’t have 😊😊
@@CJ2X I got a rsx type s for a daily for 3 years and loved it but I think it’s finally time for me to try getting into a 9th gen. 8th gen is the superior car with the 8k redline and more but as I get older, I need something more comfy.
@@jonj4357 how ironic.. An RSX-S has always been a car I’ve always wanted and never had. I’d love to build one. As far as daily driver’s though.. I’m ready for a basic automatic commuter that I don’t have to worry about. 😂
Greetings from sydney, australia. Definitely a car for night time and weekends. Stop start traffic in sydney is a pain, impossible to daily when it drinks gas/petrol like a fish. No gold medals for hitting the next traffic lights first.
Thanks for the input. Nicely put about the no gold medals for reaching traffic lights. Side note: Australia is the only place I’ve really wanted to visit and never have.
Daily'd mine 60 miles 5 days a week for 5+ years.. Strongly agree with not heavily modifying it if you drive it alot. You don't want aggressive cams and a twin disc in stop and go traffic lol
I daily drove mine for about 3 years. I didn’t think it was that bad until I got another daily and realized what I was missing. IMO, the Evo is a great weekend car.
De donde vengo Yo , el primer carro de cualquiera era 1 , 1.8. Toyota y no venía con NADA , o un Colt . Y este está dando Jekaa de un evo , X favorrr 😂😂🇵🇷
Good video, but imo you spent 8 minutes talking about why not to get a evo.... I daily drove my evo on e85 for years and is fine, people looking at getting one of these should know what there in for befor getting one, you can put cruise control on the car if its one of your things, I'm sure you can probably get after maket heated seats if you really wanted to. Should be 8 min why tp get one 2 min on why not... And end with because race car!
Call me weird but for a daily driver the simpler the better. I daily drove my evo x for some years now but what imma do soon is to extend to hearing and displacement to assist the mpg. But to me my personal opinion eg civic best daily
I agree with simple.. But nowadays with technology and everything, I think an EG is too out of date.. I daily drove an EP3 a while back and it was good.
@@CJ2X understood. Funny thing is I’m adding more sound deadening to the civic. I have gps etc on there and I use to drive far to work now it’s very close. Other than that I’ll use evo
If ypu compare current we car vs old car then Evo will Lone out on mpg. But i were driving my evo6.5 in year 2004 and evo8 in year 2007 till now i feel the mpg wasit that bad if compare hp To miles. I drove my both evo for my daily basis till 2017.those daya comparing To golf mk5/6 isnt that great on the mpg as well
Forgive me my friend but it's the first time I've heard that an Evo is not a car that is used daily 🤣 You have said many things about that car that are not true, I don't know but I see that you hate that car
Not a good daily. It’s strictly only for entertainment value and fun.. of course in the winter with good tires it’ll rip. But its uncomfortable to say the least.
No It’s Not A Good Daily Driver Because It Doesn’t Have The Features That Can Make It A Daily Driver But The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Is Only Evolution That Can Be Daily Driven Because It Has The Futures That Other Evolutions Doesn’t Have And Its More Comfortable And Safer Than All Of The Other Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions Through Out Years It Was Made Combined.
Hill assist? Turn signal automatically turns off? No cruise control? Wow couldn’t imagine. Bro it’s a manual. If you need hill assist drive an auto. If you like driving than you won’t need cruise control and you can’t be so lazy as to not want to turn your turn signal off. But the poor turning radius could be annoying
@@CJ2X older cars are all I know 🤷♂️. So none of those things are flaws since having a car in the first place is such a blessing. And if I were to drop $20k on a car and evo would be one of my first choices. Definitely would choose that over anything modern
It’s only a good daily if your driving a short distance to work like 16 miles round trip street driving to work. But if you daily it doing highway driving at significant miles then all I gotta say is god bless your wallet lol.
