Have you checked out Performance Destination in Orlando? I tuned my Evo there and made a solid 650whp that feels like way more power. Tuner puts pride on his name and brand so he will definitely keep working with you if you aren't happy rather than leave you hanging. This situation is very hard, it is definitely not an issue on parts quality, Haltech is the holy grail of Evos. I would definitely recommend having an Evo shop that specializes on Haltech check everything before going to another tuner, but again most of these shops are mid/south Florida.
Yea man.. I have.. They’re definitely in the list of shops I’m going to. I appreciate the feedback on them. But yea, definitely a bad situation. The unbiased tuner that dyno’d the car locally said it’s definitely a tuning issue. I have evidence to believe the tuner that tuned the car isn’t experienced with Haltech. Looking back at when he suggested the Haltech setup, he suggested a Haltech 1500.. which is not compatible with Evo 9s due to MIVEC. All those things are clear to me now that all this happened.. 🤦🏽♂️
Yep Desmond from Performance Destination is the man. Was able to make 470+ on the stock 9 turbo, gsc s2 cams, and e-85. The cars been running strong with zero issues for about two years now and I don't drive it easy either, car makes 30 plus lbs. pulls almost everytime I drive it.
Appreciate your candor and sharing your situation with everyone. Unbelievable that these things continue to happen in this industry. It's a sad state of affairs when the customer is being mislead after paying for a service with hard earned money. Some of us unfortunately have been down this road, but understand there will ultimately be a solution at the end, just have to hang in there. Here to support brother in any way I can!
Thanks man.. It’s a shame.. To guys like us, this isn’t just a fad hobby. This is a passion.. It’s unfortunate it leaves a bitter taste. I honestly don’t even wanna drive the car.. But the bounce back will be stronger! 💪🏼
Sorry you had to deal with all that. I think you rightfully summed up and explained a similar situation I had but was too mad to process and care about at the time. Thanks for the awesome videos!
I felt so bad during the video because I thought you were gonna need to swap to a whole other setup and potentially be out 10k, but towards the end of the video it seems to me like worst case scenario would just be losing out on the tune. I was excited to hear it should be able to get back up on it's feet with a competent tuner! Absolutely love your videos man, been watching you for years prior to me even owning an Evo because I loved the content and new I would own one. Now that I'm a recent 9 MR owner I've just been binging your vids man! Good luck on the move and can't wait to see where the Evo ends up!
I really love your videos bro, it inspires me too. I really appreciate that you didn’t spent your precious time on spreading hate. Keep it up bro, keep sharing the build with us.
That’s wild. I’m glad I went to school, wrench everyday, and learn about my car everyday to take care of it the right way. Hate when “professionals” treat you like an idiot because they think you’re not aware. Glad the car is running still with no issues other than what’s stated. Just gotta bring it to the right team!
@@CJ2Xyeah I understand that, and I didn’t mention anything about the tuning for that reason. The point I was trying to make is that professionals will assume one thing, and treat you accordingly. The principle applies to anything.
Dude, that sucks! Well done for being open and showing what the car tuning world can actually be like. Good luck getting the car sorted and being happy with it. These type of “kick in the nut” modification set backs can really mess with your mental state. I’ve been there many times too.
Yea man.. TBH, I don’t even want to drive the car right now even though I don’t even beat on the car like that. It definitely makes you second guess everything. I honestly feel like this is worse than something breaking.
Sorry to hear this happened to you buddy. On the bright side, you now have a haltech which is a very capable unit. You can record logs driving the car on the street (dont have to go on a dyno right away) and send it to any remote tuner to review them and make changes. Assuming you have a 3 port Mac valve controlling boost through the haltech, you should be able to get close to 30psi out of it with your 15psi spring. If you switch to a 4 port Mac valve you can get close to 45 psi boost using a 15psi spring. I don't know what turbo setup you're running and if it's capable of such boost pressure or not, but just something to keep in mind. Haltech is a great unit and can do lots of things like boost by gear, traction control (if you switch to an electronic throttle), launch control, antilag and many more. You just need to set it all up and you won't feel like you wasted 10k on it. Either way, best of luck and hope you find a good tuner to help you on your journey!
I spoke to them via email in regards to my Evo and they kept trying to push me into buying a bunch of parts I don’t need and made some unprofessional comments. This video just solidifies my decision to NOT go there. Another friend of mine also had a questionable experience when he took his Evo X there. Add them to the list of performance shops to “not go to.” Definitely look into Performance Destination in Florida. Fast tuning in PA Moore Automotive is a good one as well. Looking forward to more content man.
Reach out to English Racing or in your case Performance Destination when it comes to upgraded ECU's. It sucks man going through all this. But once I went to a real tuner like English, everything is explained up front and they'll show you their reasonings. Real tuners will talk to you with the passion behind your build and treat it like their own. I'm excited to see a retune in the future with proper results!
This is crazy since your tuner is around for a long time. Has how power cars running around in many different manufacturers. The crazy thing is that with an after market ecu it should make more power and take less effort. Waiting to see what shop this goes to next.
Hey man, sorry you had to go through that its really unfortunate that shop was once trusted by you and turned out the way it did. I think thats really indecent of them to scam you for your money and Im always grateful and appreciative of your very informative videos that you put out there, I don’t even follow others because I haven’t seen any as detailed and transparent like yours. I can understand how you feel and I’d actually lose sleep over that, the Evo for me was my 1st dream car and still has priority over anything else. As much of a headache the car puts me through I still try to fix it and never feel like its a nuisance. I do most mods, maintenance & repair on my own even without a garage in the northeast. 😅 I hope you never run into people like that again but at least now you know what to look out for when it comes to tuning. Idk if you’ll find another Rodney though, he’s a top class type of guy 🤛 unless you take him with you 😂 I wish you all the best with the dispute I know that can be a can of worms sometimes.
I'm against cancel culture, but this is more along the lines of showing what a shop is willing to do or act towards their customer, and that is useful insight for making a decision when it comes to choosing a tuner / shop. I've had so many problems with multiple tuners, and I have a very bad taste in my mouth from the tuning world already, so hearing this is no surprise to me. I'm sorry to hear you went through this, luckily it happened the way it did and didn't go further south. good luck with the future tuners
I appreciate the feedback and thanks for the empathy. I’m also against cancel culture.. Had I not already been making progressive videos, I wouldn’t have made this vid. Which is why I was very transparent in this vid. Trust me, if I really wanted to make these people look bad, I have plenty of unwarranted unprofessional interactions I could’ve posted.
Having similar problems with past tune on stock ecu. Severely under powered and almost not drive-able. For sure hitting up Desmond at performance destination. 16 hour drive from me but worth.
Did he check all the maps compared to haltecs base maps? And your previous setups maps? It seems like the newer setup just shifted the entire values to the right. And it spooked the tuner. But I could be wrong I haven’t put eyes on anything
You should talk to Chris Hoover at moore automotive He's tuned my evo since 2015 Has been reliable as hell My evo x currently makes 580/430 on E and 520/390 on 93 stock block minus s2 cams. Great tuner
Hate that things turned out for you like this brotha.. unfortunately I know the feeling all too well also.. But congrats on the move to NC, I’m stationed in VA. Are you going to be heading to Evo Day in Tennessee this year? - Jamaal 🤙🏽
This very same shop has been screwing people over for a while now , they don’t like me either .. a lot of soldiers don’t know much about cars so they think everyone’s stupid and it’s ok to just take our money and “ not even do the work “ that they charged us for …. I’m very sorry this happened to you man
That’s an interesting story man. You think they would just say hey we’re having some issues and we’re not sure what it is but could be X,Y,Z. That’s what my tuner would say. Well in saying that my tuner has always known exactly what the issue is. Anyway I haven’t tuned my evo yet but I did think 496hp on pump gas seemed pretty average with your setup. Sorry to hear the issues your having. Lucky there are plenty of tuners to choose from. Just keep trying until you find one your comfortable with.
This reminds me of the shop I brought my car to last year in IL...I too moved out of state and they tried to take me for a ride. Had to personally fix so much shotty work and things are still f'd...annoying.
@N I thought they were good people too, until I realized I spent 15k+ on parts/labor for only a top end build that took 5 months when I was told itd take 1...and I dropped the car off with all of the parts...Their tuner acts like he knows what hes doing, but my car runs like absolute ass when they did ALL of the work. Their shop used to be good under the previous owner, but their business is just in shambles at this point. They were gouging me for $, asking me to pay invoices early so they could p;ay their employees...after that I flew to CHI and got my car tf outta there.
@@quhectic221st Hes had trouble tuning a few friends cars too, people that exclusively use him, so it's not just me. My car idles at 10.1 and drives like absolute garbage, stalling at a stop, etc. And that's after I fixed all of the vaccum leaks and such they were kind enough to install. Shop is shady and their techs are braindead. Don't believe what you see on RU-vid, they only post videos about the customers who kiss their ass and hand them blank checks.
I’ve had a similar experience in the U.K. when you are a trusting person and others take advantage they seem deluded to think we don’t see it. I had my 9 build and tuned from a trusted specialist, unfortunately he died 😢 went to another tuner a few years later for dyno run and mapp check, and they claimed the original map was terrible and needed sorting. Obviously just wanted to make some money out of me because he literally did it in 10 minutes.
I went through hell swapping to haltech. Start learning to tune your own car, NO ONE will take as much time and care as much as you will with your own tune. You will always be tinkering making it better as well.
I see your point but this is why there are “professionals” in every profession. If I didn’t invest so much money in this car, I probably would me more inclined to start tuning myself but I ultimately don’t know what I’m doing and don’t want to mess anything up. I ultimately just took it to the wrong guy.
@@CJ2X It’s really not that hard man. I have 100k+ into my evo, and I still tune it myself as an amateur. Once you start you realize a lot of the bullshit that gets sold you to you by everyone, even these so called “professionals”.
@@CJ2X Not just that but a lot of times you think the car is 100%. But something is off somewhere and you tune it that way. Now when you fix it the tune is off. Now that I tune my own shit it’s no problem, but when you have to rely on some douchebag across the country enough times you’ll just learn yourself.
Something I've always said about evos...8/9/10 You do not need a aftermarket ecu to make the car run great and make great power. DO NOT. However you more so need aftermarket ecus for some safety features and rolling anitlag, and the ability for more inputs. Other than that you don't really need them.

I know this is old but I'm in a similar situation with the dealer/tuner that is building the harness for my ecu that is taking so so so long. Terrible communication and lack of commitment. My mistake was that I already paid for the service and I've could it done better homework before picking him. Even he "apparently" have a good reputation but that is not my case/experience. 😡
I used to get tuned there back in the day 2010-11 when it used to be spec ops, kinda just starting out. These guys split up and Justin got this place. They all used to bend over backwards for people needing tunes and never had a bad experience with any of these shops. Time changes everything I guess.
@@CJ2X I know it’s a drive… but when you’re not rich and a tune is 1300, you have to make sure you go to the best of the best. I’m glad your car is still healthy and in one piece. AG is a reputable shop that won’t put their name on the line to sabotage your build. I just find it crazy a shop and tuner would go to those extreme measures to sabotage someone’s build and take their money in such a way 🤦🏾♂️
@@CJ2X damn thats low itll pull timing being that low most likely. but still shouldnt be no 500 hp lol might consider putting ignite in the car for when you race it if the e content is that bad around there
I've been there, it's a bipolar atmosphere. Sometimes Justin is cool and other times he talks alot of sheet as you said. I've been treated fair and overcharged all in the same place. Slowpoke tuning did me a favor tuning old ass AEMV1 so I've got nothing bad to say about quality, but the price more than doubled when I came back for a retune and nothing was said until it was time to pay - is that how reputable business works?
@@quhectic221st I was told it was to *weed out the low budget clients* - take that how you will lol. The stories of how we were treated would not be good for business for the shop or tuner but we need not air that out on the internet. I'll just say I'd rather drive five states away than go there again.
@@nemoj7216 that the problem he thinks he is a top tier tuner and only want to tune high budget clients that probably don’t know any better. And now he is starting to dabble into engine builds and parts upgrades on cars smh. He damn sure isnt a mechanic
I hate shops like that. I’m really ocd about what gets done and some shops can’t handle that. They want you to fork out money left and right and not ask questions. That sucks man.. hopefully you get tuned right and move on. I would be livid though…screw that shop.
What’s worse is they don’t allow you to bring your own parts, they want you to order the parts through them (so they can make money); but get mad when you verify you got what you paid for.. 🤦🏽♂️
I wont go into much detail but very similar to yours. Bad customer service etc..only difference from yours is I built the engine, Fully Built 2.3 stroker w/stock ecu, and stock turbo just till I broke in the engine. I had may evo shipped to them. they tuned it and it made 400hp 407tq after getting the car back I did normal driving no pulls till my last brake in oil change. Did some pulls felt very very slow 🐌. So I reach out to them same response so I just moved on. before upgrading my turbo I had another tuner look over my tune as you did, and he laughed... he had to do some corrections and I ended up making 400hp dyno jet felt awesome. So I ended up enjoying the car on the stock turbo before upgrading to the fp Black.
Force fed sucks at tuning I picked up an evo a month ago and it wouldn't idle, the drivability sucked. It's on aem v2. They just did a bunch of work to my evo and tuned it before I bought it. They used silicone instead of a gasket for the throttle body. I took the car to my tuner and we had to throw there garbage tune away and re-tune the evo and now it runs 💯 percent. Force fed is trash. My tuner has had to fix quite a bit of there tunes
They lost their touch back in the day they were cool and treated you with respect. Somewhere along the line they just stopped caring about customer service and it will be their downfall.
If you’re referring to the screenshots getting chopped, I made sure every relevant response by them is posted throughout the video. The video is not monetized and I made sure to be very transparent about everything that happened. You must not watch my videos if you think I’m about that clickbait shit.
@@Slo4CylEvo I haven’t removed anything.. if you’re posting crazy stuff with curse words and such, RU-vid automatically deletes it. Feel free to repost it. I’m not trying to hide anything..
@@Slo4CylEvo and I haven’t seen Slowpoke’s comment.. I wish he would come in here and say some crazy shit. I’ve been holding all the bad stuff I can post to make him look worse..
You should invest in yourself and learn how to tune yourself. Couple of red flags when you went back to the shop that did not good work and a tuner who you didn't think liked you.
Not a bad idea.. I’ve considered it now. Yea, I hear you on the red flags but i was limited due to my location. I’ve definitely learned from this and will travel for my future car endeavors..
That’s unfortunate what you been through but putting timelines on these builds is never a good idea. You’re just setting yourself up for disappointments. You should look into Chris Speed he is very familiar with Haltech. Good luck with the future tune.
The timelines weren’t the direct issue.. It’s more of the lack of communication and lack of professionalism that irritated me most. Crispeed is definitely on the top of my list for potential future tuners!
Heaps of shops do this, good engine builders but lack tune ability, However a Dyno is just a tool to tune a car safely no number on a dyno will ever be the same infact dynos kind of mislead alot of people on what power they can actually make a FP-black MHI struggles to make 700whp without nos, you're on a Fp-red Yeah? No way a Fp-red matches a PTE6266 gen2 or Gtx35r Best way of measuring power is Drags 144-148mph+ Sucks this shop is misleading you though id just go to someone who actually treats their customers like family an makes sure the car performs like it should, they pretty much just threw a Base model tune on it like its A Stock block evo engine,
If the tuner doesn’t have you take your car for a spin after a $1400 tune, he ain’t the one. Terrible customer service and communication from Force Fed.
