Dobrý den,
CRRC and their ill-fated trainset Sirius experienced a tumultuous start in Europe. However, one trainset is now ready for passenger service with Regiojet. How does this train compare to Siemens, Stadler, and Alstom? There are plenty of good ideas, but let's find out!
Enjoy, and don't forget to like/leave a comment to help the channel :-)

Here in Chile EFE (State's Railway Company) bought several CRRC trains for suburban and Intercity lines, and they have proven to be quite reliable and comfortable... a suburban unit hit a large truck a few weeks ago and it endured the crash quite better than most of us thought

Interesting! Having travelled a lot on Chinese high-speed rail services the layout of this trainset looks strikingly similar to that which I've seen on HSR services between Shanghai, Chongqing and Chengdu. The interior layout of the trainsets are however, much more streamlined, very quiet, and I'm pretty certain the toilet doors DO NOT rattle. Oh, and the Chinese HSR would cover the 135km distance in about 20 - 25 minutes. 😄🙃
@jmsmilfajt
@jmsmilfajt 4 месяца назад
Well, are you really trying to compare Shanghai (29 000 000 people) with Ústí nad Labem (92 000 people)? HSR express service with Interregio service with many stops? Or High-speed train (for 700 people) and Regional train (for 200 people)? Czechia does not have a pure HSR yet but considering the population, the rail services are good. One can travel Prague-Ostrava (350 km) in 3 hours on express trains.

@@jsc3417: I could not agree with you more. The soundproofing issue is NOT manufactural issue but it is what customer specification issue. China is able to make a quieter trains like what it does for all of its domestic high-speed trains. It is up to the customer how much it wants to pay and what conform level and model of the train it wants and for certain price tag. Chinese manufacture cannot be blamed for the soundproofing issue. Ask your government to pick a better soundproofing model. By the way, this is just the inner-city commuter train and not high-speed train. In comparison with other trains made by different manufactures for similar type of train, this train is so much better in many ways.

Since I have tried many trains around the globe, I think the noise of a train is mostly caused by the rough or crooked railway. I still remember I almost threw up when commuted between Switzerland and Germany with inter-state train because the crooked and sloping railway. I also tried Chinese high speed railway many times: although I did not try the famous”erect a coin” experiment, I quite enjoyed the quietness and stability when the train kept a steady speed of 350km/h.

I can absolutely say that the railway tracks on that particular line are NOT in bad condition, while on holiday in Czech republic I travelled that line some years ago in a train made up of traditional coaching stock like what Regio Jet uses and that trip was smooth. The door rattling definitively is caused by something in the running gear not being properly constructed or adjusted.

Yes the quality of the railroad plays a major role in the smoothness of the ride but first, this railway line is not in a particularly bad shape - the sleepers are older here but the line is maintained for the heaviest possible cargo trains. Secondly, old ČD trains on slow local trains ride smoothly here and so do the Regiojet regional express trains that are hauled by a locomotive. Absolutely smooth ride even with 40+ years old coaches. This CRRC Sirius unit also rides relatively smoothly but the noise is unbearable. When you travel with regular Regiojet coaches, the only thing you hear is the A/C. On Sirius, you feel like in a spaceship because the traction motors are soo loud. It is really bad even on the completely new and smooth railroad at VUZ Velim test centre.

The finishing/soundproofing needs to be fixed, but otherwise a decent unit. CRRC made the HCMT EMUs to serve the new Metro Tunnel in Melbourne, Australia and its associated lines to Sunbury, Cranbourne and Pakenham East. Whilst the seats on those units are comfortable enough for a suburban train, the ratio of standing to seating is a massive problem. Pakenham East to the city is 60km and takes 80 minutes, Cranbourne 45 km taking an hour, and Sunbury 38km taking about 45 minutes. All three are extremely busy lines, and the prospect of standing for up to an hour is unappealing to say the least, especially given the generally poor condition of Melbourne's tracks.

Singapore is also removing seats with its newer rolling stock & euphemistically says that it's making more space on the trains e.g. for more prams & wheelchairs, to be more inclusive. Some angled panels have been added on the trains' interior walls too for standing passengers to lean on & are also euphemistically called "perch seats"

that business-class- seating looks realy great tbh, also the "standing seats" are a cool concept (though not in inter-regio or eurocity-lines, but i guess in rural areas with travel-times less than 15min that's a great thing to do) as a former frequent user of the S-Bahn Zürich, i can assure you: Alstom, Stadler and Siemsns do make the same noise. Guess it's all about how much soundproofing was orderd. only one reason for me using my car now (next to poor service, overboarding prices and less reliability (you were on time to miss the connecting train in the last few years, a journey of 40min took you 1,5 hours, 30min by car. and the parkinglots became cheaper compared to the train-tickets. sry, got to be on time sometimes, dear SBB)

CRRC is a top-tier trainset manufacturer. It's up to the customer to specify and commit to the level of comfort they want to pay for. What a great video. I've just returned from Seoul, and found their metro trains fantastic. In Australia, Sydney contracted a Spanish-built lite rail. The trainset suffered structural failures during acceptance testing, cracking down the center of the carriages. This was remedied by the manufacturers, and now Sydney has a wonderful lite rail through the city.

A few days ago there was a review of this train by another reviewer and I asked him whether the train is as noisy as it seems and he would reply that his microphone was exaggerating a bit. After this review I'm convinced that it actually IS noisy. Of course, airline style business seats are something to imitate (certainly not on regional service), but I think that in Norway they already did introduce something similar for the night trains, including lie-flat position of the seats. Those non-seats are of course a joke. They only take space of normal seats (a few less, but anyway). I noticed that you didn't review the "family" bench-like seats as yet another "class" on this train (probably because they were all busy). I hope these trains won't last long and I'm a bit worried about Westbahn and Austrian railways in general (like plans to ryanair the Railjet service - or to wizzair it, if you prefer a more central European verb).

It's not only the sound proofing which needs to be better, the rattling door is caused by vibrations which come from the wheels or bogies, seems dampers are not properly doing their work. Then the mechanism of the door itself needs to be better to get all play out, for instant spring loaded rollers or rubber silence blocks have to be fitted. I think it sits on plain rollers now and is able to move around in the recess where it slides in when it opens. It has its reasons why these are cheaper than Stadler or Siemens.

I recently took a new VIA rail Siemens "Venture" (older Viaggios downgraded to US standards) train to Ottawa. I had the misfortune to be in the first car (cab car). They forgot to put the train horn on the outside of the car, so it is very loud at every rail crossing and there are many crossings. So hearing the bogie motors is likely much better. Another issue is whether the sound is mostly the wheels against tracks versus the actual motors. At one point in your video, it could have been just the wheels against rails. But at other points, obvious motors. CRRC likely underbid others to get contract and sound proofing llikely a victing of this. Were they built i Europe? assembled in Europe? or shipped fully finished from China? Whenever a manufacturer has to build a new plant to eet "made in rules, expect lots of defects and problems early on because of customizations to the model and inexperienced workers. From Wikipedia on Leo Express: "However, in April 2022, reports emerged that Leo Express had cancelled its contract with CRRC, after undergoing two years of testing but failing to achieve certification based on European TSI regulations to allow operation" I have to assume CRRC spent 2022 and 2023 fixing the train to get certification or managed to get a Czech-only permit to operate for those 4 months and those trains would never leave country. Inability to deliver a train that meets EU standards is not good image for CRRC. Note: Nippo Sharyo had gotten big order for Amtrak divisions in California and Midwest and was unable to downgrade its trains to FRA standards so at last minute, Siemens came in with offer to sell some of its Charget (diesel) locos and the Venture cars which it had already downgraded to US standards for Brightline. Despite this, these took a very long time to get working properly.
@Jenci
@Jenci 4 месяца назад
Out of the curious, what was a downgrade for FRA and US standards?
@jfmezei
@jfmezei 4 месяца назад
Until 2018, the FRA was still stuck with 1950s technology/standards (mostly to help Budd win contracts). This is why the current Acella are heavy steel, with individual bogies. After Amtrak placed order for the new Avells, the FRA relented and allowed aluminium shells, jacobs bogies for trains that don't meet freight. The Viaggios were converted to venture well before that. The other aspect is that of "Made in America" and this measn all the tested components of the original model are replaced with american-made compionenst from new suplier and for which the train was not designed. So the end result is a totally new train that needs new testing, debiugging and of course certification. @@Jenci
@jfmezei
@jfmezei 4 месяца назад
Another example: Amtrak Cascades. They got an exemption from FRA to get mdoern Talgo trains (aliminium shells, jacobs bogies etc). But when time came to place a second order, they required it be made in America and made of steel. After the derailment, politicians intervened and Amtrak forced to retire the modern Talgos (which performed well in derailment to maintain shape etc) but allowed to keep the few heavy steel ones they had because "made in america". The heavy steel demand has proven ineffective due to the numebr of Amfleet derailments where an Amfleet car found itself wrapped around a telephone pole. This steel requiremenet is more than likely to support US steel industy. There is currently similar process for Brightline West which is meant to be true high speed but won't be if FRA gets involved. Politicians want to impose ancient US signaling from WABTEC which can't support high speed instead of allowing world standard ETCS systems @@Jenci

ČD (Czech national operator) ordered many trains from Siemens branded as Interjet/Comfortjet so we will probably have even nicer long-distance trains than Norway in a year or two.

mostly it is because of the rail not the train itself. China produced the best rail and train in the world. many foreigner made the coin test on the high speed train running in 350kmh and the coin stands. try it in your country and see...

😂 if your country is rich enough, we can upgrade your crap railways in to standard Chinese high speed railway system which enable you to stand coins on a train travelling at the speed of 350-400km/h.

@@DescendantofYellowEmperor I love China's way of building - something is simple and not so high quality - but you can do that too. Nothing would please me more if we could get a few thousand to build out the railway in Norway. Money is not the problem in Norway - we are the only country in the world to have 10 state budgets in liquid funds. China has built some great bridges in Norway and they are absolutely amazing. The problem here is people. We have jobs soo we need more people.

I'm trying to picture how this turn-around is different from the Y track at Tampa [where the Amtrak simply backs into the station] such that this train benefits significantly from being double-ended...

Standing seats when Business is a 1+1 configuration? what are they thinking about? Like many chinese made products, there are cheaper... for a reason.

It's obviously custom made to Regiojet's requirement, no trains in China has this layout

@@impranksterw9145 of course. my comment was about average quality of the train itself.
