I truly believe in the keyboard. I was thinking that if the Project L guys want to lure in more people from the pc gaming world they should advertise that you can play it on a keyboard, and put in some good binding presets. I remember I wanted to get into fighting games but thought I needed to get a pad or a fightstick. And so I bought a ps4 controller specifically to play xrd, and I hated the ergonomics and switched to keyboard. Been keyboard fighting ever since!

No sorry. I find keyboards very uncomfortable for this. Keycaps are way too small. Plus, keyboards have a long spacebar so that both thumbs can be used on the same button. I don’t want that in a fighting controller. I want my thumbs to be able to hit DIFFERENT buttons. I've tried hitting the letter "v" or "b" with my right thumb and again, feels very very uncomfortable.

I like how in the 90s and early 2000s we tried everything to not use keyboards for fighting games on PC. Now it's basically what the pros use.

Because keycaps aren't made for this kind of thing, especially back then when "gaming" keyboards didn't exist, playing on keyboard was awful and bad for your hands.

@@bestagoxold PS/2 keyboard did have NKRO so pressing multiple buttons never were a problem. It's only the USB keyboards that had that problem.

I’m not saying keyboards are bad. It’s just that there’s a high chance you may press the button next to the one you wanted to press, and then your character ends up doing the wrong move. You definitely don’t want to take that risk in a high-level tournament.

Some issues I see with this is the button caps and future support. White will eventually get stained or you may lose some. Not easily replaced if you can't get more. Then you have the proprietary PCB. At the end of its life if the company isn't supporting it for whatever reason. Putting in a Brook or open PCB would be very difficult.

Hey there, this is Crane, electrical engineer for the controller. We plan to sell extra caps in various colors, as well as post CAD models for people who want to 3D print their own caps (or have a website print caps for you). Also, if we ever stop selling/supporting the controller I will definitely post the CAD files for the circuit board so people can still get them made on a site like JLCPCB.

This might be perfect, I've been playing on keyboard as long as I play fighting games, but its kind of awkward to play at friends houses (and impossible if they don't have a PC). Was thinking about getting one of those keyboard & mouse to PS4 converters but I've also been curious about if stickless controllers have better feel and ergonomics, although there haven't been many that mimic my current setup (mirrored hitbox with pinky button for dash macro in strive and di in sf6, and an extra thumb button for the left hand). Also getting kind of tired of using button remapping software…

They're also releasing button plugs I think too so you don't even need the extra plates, you can just plug the ones you don't plan on using at that time.

At this point is there a discernable difference between using something like this and custom mapping a keyboard? Especially with custom lighting software and dynamic keystroke features I can see someone emulating this on a regular high end custom keyboard.

You definitely could use a keyboard! The position of the keys on a keyboard aren't completely in the shape of what you'd find on a fightstick though, and it's a lot easier to misclick on a keyboard with how close the keys are together. Also, keyboards are pretty bad for having multiple thumb buttons which is a requirement for Smash games, and its also a good accessibility feature even for FGC.

Ok this is pretty awesome. 20$ short rn but backing after i can get to the bank tomorrow. Dp, super shortcuts and fully customizable sold me. I can remap di and parry to any button?

The biggest thing holding me back is the reliance on external adapters for current console compatibility. I realize PS4 and PS5 compatibility is a whole ordeal (thanks Sony). But at this price point you're competing with officially licensed controllers (a la Victrix, Razer) and other options with onboard support via Brook (Junkfood, Paradise, etc). I'm reluctant to buy a separate adapter that adds latency.

Pretty cool, I've been wanting a controller similar to Daigo's Hitbox layout with a few extra buttons on each side to get easier access to DI and Parry. Is there a template like that? Or just the ones shown in the video?

You can actually completely customize the layouts! There a blank plugs you can use to cover up button locations you don't want. Using those, you can completely individualize your layout. - Mechanical Engineer on the project

Yep! the controller doesn't have any duplicate buttons (besides two up buttons on the split layout, but if a tournament doesn't allow that it can be disabled). If you are using the full layout with all of the buttons, you'd use either the inner or outer buttons and the ones you aren't using get disabled. As far as SOCD goes, we support neutral and second input priority, though we can add others if any games require them!

I play Melee on LBX (though I still use a stick for SF6) and I think the Glyph is pretty sick, but for the main selling point over other similar controllers being modularity, the layout plates cost a bit too much, and not getting any extra plates at the $259 price point just makes it not that attractive to me over the GRAM, which starts at $199 and ships immediately. If JFA ever has enough time to restock the LBX consistently it is the best option in its category IMO.

I'd prefer a keyboard if it had a split spacebar so I'm not wasting a thumb. And maybe slightly larger keys, but that's really it.

Pretty neat, but I could never give up the raw satisfaction of a stick with proper execution. Leverless may be easier to learn, but you get out what you put in with fighting games. Hopefully the small balance issues that leverless sometimes creates can be resolved gracefully, that kind of stuff never feels good.

This. I built my first leverless and I find it fun with an asterisk. However, there is something kinetic and organic feeling about a stick. The leverless is more of a clinical kind of fun.

Kickstarter only charges you if the project is successfully funded, and it waits until the end of the campaign. There isn't really any risk of backing now if your only concern is that it won't reach the funding goal.

I am very familiar with you guys as I have built a few custom gamecube controllers and a couple of "bubblebox" controllers. I know this isn't a scam but was more scared that the product just couldn't be made if the goal wasn't hit.

I really do not like leverless controllers. Trying to move your character with just a few buttons seems tricky as hell. Even removing some of the other buttons it still feels weird not having a stick.

There's a folio case included with all reward levels. But the zipper case that Justin shows in the video is part of the elite bundle with all 4 layouts, which costs an extra $100 like you said

only problem i have with this is its movement layout is too focused on hitbox and not mixbox and not changeable in that sense. it would be great if the left and right buttons were adjacent to the middle button like wasd key. feel like the way it is, if i try it like a mixbox, my finger for pressing down would be very uncomfortable. what is the purpose of that button being there anyways? the up button being down for hitbox makes sense, but why another button below that?

That extra button is to have a psuedo wasd setup and yeah I agree that it isn't ideal. I think the ideal wasd setup would have those up and down buttons being moved slightly up so the directions would form a diamond shape. If we did this though, it would compromise the default layout by making neither ideal as a down button, and I figured that would make more people upset since WASD isn't as popular. I would like to make a controller that is actually dedicated to WASD at some point. Not sure if the market is big enough to be a product that I do with Limit Labs, but if not I'm defn interested in doing one as an open source project.

This still only has 12 active buttons, just like any other fightstick. Up/down/left/right and the 8 face buttons. There are no duplicate buttons (besides two up buttons on the split layout, but if a tournament doesn't allow that it can be disabled). If you are using the full layout with all of the buttons, you'd use either the inner or outer buttons and the ones you aren't using get disabled. As far as SOCD goes, we support neutral and second input priority, though we can add others if any games require them!

So for these all button controllers does the controller fill in the diagonal inputs? So like for fire ball you'd only do down forward or do you have to push down, down-forward, forward? If it fills in the space that kind of seems like cheating lol

In the fighting game mode, there is only an up/down/left/right and the 8 face buttons, diagonals don't have their own buttons. To do a fireball you would need to push down, down+forward, forward.
