I finally ordered this epic Synthesizer/Drum Machine by KORG and can't wait 'til it gets delieverd... I'm really so excitded and hopefully I will come along easily with my first VOLCA @ all , from the very beginning ... I guess I will leave another short comment, when I finally has learned "swimming" the Volca Drum! Stay tuned
6 month passed. success or nah? first month of use could be really frustrating, when you don't understand which set of parameters give you the result you want.
I've tried several synthisizer makes and models and am increasingly being drawn to Korg's Volca line. I like them for several reasons: The built-in speaker, the ability to run on batteries, the standard design, they are easily synchable to one another... I am expecting delivery of a used Volca Drum right now. I am using a Volca FM 1, and Bass. I also have a Volca Sample 1, but have had some issues with it. I think this will make my synthesizer line up fairly well complete. I may eventually add others but these three seem to make a very full sound and the standard design makes it very easy to learn from one to the next.
I have three drum machines - Elektron Syntakt and Machinedrum MK2 and a Volca Drum. I have neglected the Volca Drum - unfairly. I want to do some tracks just using my Volca Drum and Volca FM2.
I honestly think it's one of the better in the range if not the best and most useable. I have used the Volca drum in a few songs but it's really noisy and you have to really work the sounds to make them fit in the mix.
Once you have installed Purr Data you can open the Volca Drum Glitch Seq NoiseAUD file. From there you will need to choose an MIDI output. One the Mac you go to the following edit > preferences > midi and choose your output device. Now when you press Play it should send midi out of the selected MIDI channel to your volca.
@craigwilliamsmusic let me ask you, I hope you'll reply even if it's a old post. Do you prefer the Volca or the ER-1? I had the Volca Drum and I sold it cause editing the sound was not very funny with the tiny knobs and the menu diving. Also the 16 steps sequencer only was too frustrating. Would you say that the ER-1 it's a more entertaining and interesting device? If you could pick just one of the two, what would you choose?
