Is the Lupang Hinirang 2/4, 4/4, OR 8/8??

What they're singing is none other than the Philippine National Anthem. But is her beat correct? The music, composed by Julian Felipe in 1898, was originally written in a time signature of 2/4 but was adjusted to 4/4 to make it easier to sing. R.A. 8491 Section 37 also states that the National Anthem should follow Julian Felipe’s version: 2/4 when played and 4/4 when sung. Now, I’m not an expert, but you can sing the Lupang Hinirang in 2/4, 4/4

In conducting, gestures depend on the conductor as long as the singers/instrumentalists understand the gestures. What we are taught in school are STANDARD gestures of the 3 basic time signature.

Ephesians 6:10-18 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Breaking your sins into pieces... Repent now, and turn back to the true Lord only.. God bless. 😢😢😢

She's using the 8/8 beat that was originally use in the past. Lola(Grandma) used to show me this hand movement while singing the national anthem. I saw the original video where lot of people laughing at her for doing this beat rather than respecting her for showing the original 8/8 beat of the Philippine National Anthem.

I’ve seen this on fb, the nanay doing the beat actually has a mental condition, so for those mocking how she does it, lets just appreciate the fact that even if she is not in a stable mind, there are things etched on her mind and heart that she has never forgotten, and that is her patriotism and love for our nation.

And teachers make up 70% of internal medicine patients. I had a Filipino teacher who went so mad she drove his husband's car into a cliff and died. Her husband (once a teacher, now an ISIS rebel) threatened jihad on the Catholic school I was in, and he even carried an AK airsoft rifle, threatening the guard. @@ravendude0507because youtubers are focused on making content and none other. Teachers need to make lesson plans, content, grades, meetings, extracurricular, etc. If they were a game character, teachers need to allocate their skill points to each skill and on top of that, they need to make it "good" within a deadline. RU-vidrs, on the other hand will max out their skill points on content creating... No meetings, documents, lesson plans, etc. So, for me, I think it would be better for youtubers and teachers to collab hahahahahha

People are confusing 'wanting to help other people by educating them with facts' with casual disrespect towards their fellow people. If the person who made this video just wanted to teach people, you should have blurred the face of the person in your video. Regardless of your intention, good or bad, the people seeing the video and commenting like they're watching a play…some praising, some ridiculing, etc. It's not right to make entertainment out of people unaware. Or perhaps the lola in the video knew about you making this video and gave her consent? In which case, I apologise for speaking out of turn. Have a nice day.

There is an actual difference for those who are wondering. These time signatures aren't just interchangable. The anthem is composed in a way that it puts emphasis on the 2 and 4, resulting in the measure being divided into 2 or 4 notes. why both are considered correct is the function. 2/4 is used to conduct band arrangements because it's easier to syncopate for the brass players. 4/4 is used when singing because that's what most people are used to. 8/8 divides everything equally into notes grouped by 4. The syllables of the anthem nor the arrangement, even if syncopated, simply do not match that beat. and thats my 2 cents as someone who studies music theory

Hi Elham here!As a kid playing beats in our school,i am the one beating in stage in december.and my anthem is Bayang magiliw so it means i know how to do that beat.Actually, she is right but for most people now thinks shes wrong because 2/4 and 4/4 is most likely to be famous and reality but her beat is right but the hand movement is wrong because when beating in national anthem bayang magiliw is when you beat there, you cant cross or make your hands change into backwards because that is not gonna be part of the song when you play that beat.Back to what i said, she is right because that beat/compass is an old beat but shes still right. But if u ask me,what beat do i play? well i play 4/4 because i think its more popular so they understand it.And most likely is 2/4 plays beat and 4/4 plays the song or lyrics and her beat is called 8/8.

In 1980 to 90's, most of the teachers in Philippine public school used to do this style of beating. May be this woman remembers her teacher elementary doing like this.😂😂😂

It's one of the oldest beat. Former old teachers did it. By the way there's no 2/4 , 3/4, or 4/4 in time signatures. Because they are not fractions. It should be written like this... 2 , 3 , 4 4 4 4 Our music teachers always reminded this before. Indeed, you're not an expert.

Back when i was at VABES as a grade schooler this was the og way of conducting, our grandparents also confirmed this at the time when there was a national debate over it during Paquiao fights overseas since we are obsessed to getting it right when it comes to our Nat'l anthem. In reality there's been different ways to do it right way before the time we were born, no need to shame the old lady down, I'm sure despite her disabilities, she remembers that this is also how they use to teach it to them back when they were kids.

When I was in elementary school, students from 5th or 6th grade will be the one to beat the flag retreat. And our music teachers taught us that it we can use 2/2 or 4/4.

People nowadays, try to correct the wrongs they See, always searching for the wrong to make content. For me, it doesn't matter if it is wrong or correct, as long as she finishes the task that she give to her. At least she has the guts! to perform in front of many people even if the beat she performs is wrong. Some people fear doing it because they are afraid to make a mistake. im proud of her!

Technically, i am a filipino and i don't know if this is true but my filipino school uses the hand gesture: down, cross the hands, un-cross the hands, up and then repeat. You can try it on your own while singing the national anthem and see your hands dancing to the beat. (Again i don't know if this hand gesture is true, it is just used by my filipino school)😊

Interesting observation to point out. I have been conducting the singing or performing of the national anthem since I was in Grade One. She seems to start correctly.....but the "single hand" beating appears odd.....

2/4 is used when singing Lupang Hinirang in the morning (flag raising), and 4/4 in the afternoon for the flag retreat. At least that's what our school taught us. It really triggers me when other students lead, but uses the wrong beating EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Even our teachers already taught them about it, but they just never get it to their heads🔥 Gladly I'm studying in a University now, I wouldn't have to see those annoying students leading the flag ceremony with the wrong beatings.
