Hasbro has taken several cracks at one of Spider-Man's biggest villains. With the reveal of the Marvel Comics 85th Anniversary version, is this the best Marvel Legends figure of Eddie Brock yet? What do you think?
Thanks for the reveal Jeffrey. Not in the market for another Venom I was suspiciously curious as to why ML released another one so soon. Normally, the pins don't bother me, however the larger the action figure, the bigger the pins - thus they tend to pop out at me. Damn, it is 2024 - I really wish ML would embrace the technology that has been around for a decade now.
@@LylesFigureFiles You gotta keep in mind, Jeffrey, that Venom doesn't mean as much to me as he does to the younger generation of comic book fans. By the time Venom made the scene, I was almost 30 years old, and I'd been reading comic books since I was 4 (I learned to read via comics before I attended elementary school!), so I had 26 years of Spider-Man without McFarlane or Venom. I recognize his significants to THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, of course, but he doesn't mean as much to me as long time Silver Age Spidey villains like Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Electro, Kingpin, etc. So I wasn't in a huge hurry to get him. Besides, there was like dozens of Venom figures, and none of them seemed to be like the original Venom that I preferred, so I was waiting for my perfect figure. This looks to be it. That's more or less how I see the character. I stopped reading modern comics in 2010, so anything after that, I don't have much interest in, including updated versions of characters, etc. I now only collect Golden, Silver and Bronze Age comics. That's where my passion for "funny books" is at. :)
It’s so horrible how those forearms are specific to the Animated series and when THAT FIGURE came out, they didn’t even paint it correctly, meaning it’s never served it’s purpose
The forearm tendrils are great in my opinion. As a matter of fact, this is exactly what a perfect Venom looks in my eyes. The only thing to wish from this was probably more accessories, but other than that, this Venom is just Lethal Protector, Elite tier. Great job on the video btw!
This looks like a great release and is perfect for fans that may have missed that initial release you referenced. I will pass only because Venom, in my mind, will always be locked into those initial three issues of ASM, #298-300. This version had no prehensile tongue nor fangs. He was just a big, bulky version of the suit with a menacing grin that protruded through the mask/symbiote head mask.
The “tiny hot wheels for the tongue” comment had me crying! 😂 This Venom looks really good. I was fine with the Knull 2 pack version except for his feet. This one will be a good replacement and maybe my definitive Venom.
I have the Revoltech Venom as my main Venom, but this new ML with the new torso articulation is enough to make me want a more comic book accurate Venom.
Hot take, but I don't like the inverted a crunch. For characters that have logos on their chest like Venom, it breaks up the symbol whenever you twist it. With the swivel at the waist, this wouldn't be an issue. That said, I'll still get it. This is the first solo release for a good Venom that we've gotten in years and it's only $25. It's nice to not have him packed in a multipack finally. Now the only Venom I need is Lethal Protector/MvC2 in blue.
It does break up those symbols with that ab-crunch. That's the price of super articulated figures I guess. It's been way too long since I've played MvC2 so I need to revisit that roster!
It looks good but the only problem that I have is it's a Walmart Exclusive and most of the Walmart always have everything Sold Out in my area. Then Ebay will have outstanding prices for it. So unless Amazon or Gamestop has it, I'm not wasting my time on this Venom. Thanks again for the reveal Jeffrey
Hopefully they'll stock him well enough. In fairness some of their exclusives have been stocked well enough that they've hit clearance like Star-Lord and the John Walker Captain America.
I’m okay with pins especially figures that are never coming off the card like this figure. But I’ll hold Hasbro to the standard of no pins when Mcfarlane makes one figure without pins. Until then pins are on the table. If Hasbro has made strides then Mcfarlane never has. Nothing new repaints, pinned joints nothing has changed since he took over the licensing rights. The best Superman ever made in this line has single jointed arms.
Oh yeah to keep them MOC the pins don't matter at all. You know my stance on pins, but McF hasn't started implementing them so I wouldn't hold them to that standard. Scaling is a totally different issue and one thankfully that isn't an issue for Marvel Legends.
I'm pretty happy with the comic venom from the 3 pack, not to mention I took the DST Venom head and stuck him on the knull 2 pack body and it looks great. I think I'm set. I have 3 gripes with the figure though: - I don't like the Wal-Mart exclusivity. I missed out on that WAl-Mart Animated Spider-Man because I was never able to find it. - Something about this newly articulated body looks off to me somehow. I don't know what it is. Maybe the arms are too long or with the new dynamic posing brings more attention to the smaller shoulders? - With the newly updated Omega Red body, does that mean we'll be getting a single carded updated Sabertooth down the line? He may not move like Spider-Man, but Sabertooth is a massively dynamic character. If that's the case, should people still trying to get my hands on that two pack if they know that a super articulated Sabertooth is a year or two down the line? I don't know. Just something to think about
If we get a new Sabretooth I'm hoping it would be that original costume look as that recent figure was badly in need of an upgrade as soon as it was released.
@@LylesFigureFiles First appearence? Yeah. If anything they should redo that one just for the hair. I always think of Sabertooth with that 70's haircut in his first appearance costume.
@@LylesFigureFiles I have every Spider-Man retro card release mint on card. Most I have loose also unfortunately I only got one Jonah Jameson so I do not have a loose one. My loose Kingpin and Rhino are BAFs not retro card versions.
i kinda like the forearms, my only venom is the king in black version. wish this came with a eddie brock head tho. im for sure gon make a grab at this. im usually pretty good at snagging preorders until recently missing carnage and the fiasco with warbird and the pulse exclusive yoda/gree 2 pack... luckily i have friends who came through and ordered multiples of both
I have the KIB Venom, but the Butterfly Joints might just make this my definitive Venom... If I can find it. Knowing it's a walmart exclusive hurts it.
I have the Venom exclusive Retro card, the Amazon 3 pack, and the King in Black. I was going to pass on this until I saw the updated torso articulation and the grinning head
I think its the best MCFARLANE version of venom. Its clearly based off that version and it looks identical to him on his first cover. But as the definitive venom? Not by a long shot. The definitive venom would be something like the King in Black or 3 Pack venom with an eddie head, mid transformation and venom head along with the fist and claw hand sets. But i do think this could have been used as a spot for another character. Vulture and Chameleon are no doubt 100% being put in the VHS line cause hasbro knows we want them. But other characters that should DEFINITELY be on the retro line are human form, Purple shirt Hydro Man with interchangeable water arms like that retro sandman, The Spot, and Baron Mordo
Hey LFF !!! My brotha long time subscriber long 1st time comment dropper That team at Marvel seem lazy and unenthusiastic about what the drop and tons of remakes IN A NUTSHELL They like the Dow jones UP N DOWN 2 new 10 repaints re issue WHAT WE GONNA DUE ?
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Don't be a stranger :-) I don't know. I think they've been on a roll with these upgrades and we have been getting some strong new figs like Baron Zemo, Ikkaris, Count Nefaria and Whiplash.
Too textured for my taste. I’m looking forward to the Venom and Carnage Two-Pack that’s rumored. Maximum Carnage 30th Anniversary maybe with blueish Venom resembling MVC maybe 🤔
I dont think it is tbh. I think it's still the King in black venom for sure. I think if you want to make new venom figures at this point we need things like a blue mvc venom, or an Ultimate spiderman shiny purple venom.
Prob don't remember me bringing it up,no one remembers me lol, but I asked a bunch and mentioned multiple times how they should do a new retro card venom.
Very annoying how hasbro is so non consumer friendly though Of course a new carnage and venom will either be in an expensive three pack or an exclusive that Impossible to find
I prefer the BAF, he needs to look like a gorilla, they should add a new tech print Eddie Brock head to seal the deal. Also this is Walmart exclusive, that's scalpers feast.
Maybe I'm the crazy one, but this looks like a janky kitbash. The detail only on the wrists, oversized hands, short legs, nice butterflies, but droopy shoulders, wasn't the biggest fan of the tongue sculpt the fist time. My mind's eye for the perfect venom would be a fusion of select and mafex.
CON: already own the 3-pack Venom PRO: Grinning head CON: already own King in Black Venom PRO: Retro card CON: Walmart Exclusive REMAINING QUESTION: Is $25 and Walmart hassles worth it for one extra head?
What's up with this boomer mentality with store exclusives? I've never seen a Lizard in the wild, so there's no chance of me getting this Venom unless BBTS gets him.
