Is The Metamorphosis A Good Exploration Ship? || EVE Online 

Not necessarily interested in a particular ship but always interested in the logic behind the fitting. First I’ve heard of the interdiction nullifier, which could be very useful for me in wormholes. Thanks.

It is good for a frigate escape bay because its cheaper than an astero and can fit a covert ops cloak :D

It is intriguing. That +2 warp core strength is like escaping in a Venture. But having a cover ops cloak is difficult for enemies to even pinpoint where you are to begin with (if you're Omega). The role bonuses are beefy, and add that fact if you already have scanning skills that is a nice stack for highly expert scanning & hacking. And the mobile depot is intriguing to fit your ship for custom jobs in the middle of space. You don't need to fit both a relic and data analyzer. You can just constantly swap them out in space and fit a scanning bonus module. So many times I've docked up for that swap. Very utilitarian ship overall for lower end PvE - including lvl 1 distribution & security missions. I bet it could do some tier 0 abyss. The less than 2 sec align time is primo for sneaking in everywhere. While you're not doing all of this, it's your very own 5 au/sec shuttle, and low cargo volume blockade runner for like moving your blueprints or implants or datacores or somethings. Just check before you jump online pilots. The slots leave something to be desired. Just give me one more mid slot for a total of 4. The cargo capacity is really meh. Give me 300-350 please instead of a mere 200, in relation to tier 1 explorers that have 400 m3.

Ok i love this thing for general purpose. Plus 2 core, cloak, can get sub 1 align, and can tank some smarty boi bombs at gate... happy explorer noises. Only thing this didn't get is a interdiction null. Also these double as battleship ejection seats to save pods and implants

Oh I haven't even really looked at the ship yet. Still sitting in my claims folder but it's cool to see some fits for it.

Good video as always :), needed info on it, Met that at the C4 that spawned in our wormhole and went, "what the hell is a metamorphosis" took me so long to see its stats i forgot to shoot it in the face as per wormhole customs lol, was cloaked btw, although from what am seeing i think you might be better off selling the ship and buying much cheaper versions, i mean its hull alone as of today was about 143M, an astero is about 112M last i checked and the T2 empire variants at around 23M to 30M for the hull and T1 empire variants are dirt cheap at roughly under 100K to about 500K, and stat wise, the +2 warp stabilizer is the only thing i think is sort of worth the isk its coasting but even then against say a flycatcher or seber its screwed and its a pretty heffty sum to loose free or not, especially when you can earn a free 100M+ lol

Regarding combat, it would be a good tackler for ships at bookmarks. Also it has enough dps to kill other dedicated hacking ships.

I know it's not your style captain, but the one site I run in all my exploration ships is the basic hideaway, which has a (small) chance to escalate. So while I'm scanning for data/relic sites I'll usually speed tank and orbit while my drones kill the pirates

The metamorphosis is bad at combat? Challenge Accepted! -- really not too hard to get me to try and fit a cov ops frigate though :P So two builds for you, Lets start with the more insane of the two :P This is a faction warfare fit, for when you want to pay faction ship prices for a ship that performs worse than the other faction ships that aren't the astero but good enough to pick off cheaper t1 frigates at only... well, a lot more cost :P Probably also decent at ambushing various kiting frigates but likely not so much better that its worth its cost :P. Honestly surprised you can get 252dps out of this thing with ~5k total ehp, not nearly as bad as I expected, wouldn't take it over... anything I'd actually bring to FW, but technically viable :P Which honestly is pretty great as, even though I wouldn't fly it for the price, it is technically a viable anti-frigate cov ops ship that likely arguably outperforms the Astero at FW, which I did not know was a thing that existed before you proposed this challenge so kudos to you :P [Metamorphosis, FW fit] 400mm Rolled Tungsten Compact Plates Damage Control II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II 1MN Y-S8 Compact Afterburner Stasis Webifier II Initiated Compact Warp Scrambler Light Electron Blaster II, Void S Rocket Launcher II, Nova Rage Rocket Covert Ops Cloaking Device II Small Trimark Armor Pump II Small Trimark Armor Pump II Small Hybrid Collision Accelerator I Hobgoblin II x3 Acolyte EV-300 x3 But okay lets be a bit more sane, minor build adjustment, less skills required (no longer have to max missiles :P), this one is only around to hunt scouts, essentially we lose the rockets for a probe launcher because you can't really hunt scouts if you can't find exploration sites (mind you if you did pre-scout the sites in advance and just want to sit around the above build still works quite wonderfully and fares even better against enemy asteros).... this does afford us an afterburner upgrade because the rocket launcher is gone but.. really you're using the cloak to get in and attack, the afterburner isn't the biggest deal... But anyway, this does 192 dps at max skills when overheated, 175 without the overheat, an astero is pretty much limited to a max of 100dps in a scout hunting role so this is an improvement. The total ehp is ~5k, 4k of which is in armor, this is roughly equivalent to most combat equipped asteros if not a bit higher depending on the exact Astero loadout, the downside is that the Astero can pack a lot of armor repair power (which the metamorphosis can't equal, you could still run an ancillary armor repairer at the cost of some dps in the form of the mag field stab II but I suspect the extra dps to kill astero drones quickly is probably the better survival plan), but if you focus on wiping out the Astero's drones first and bring some neut drones for when you're done doing that I think you have a pretty decent chance at killing a scout hunter Astero, would be an interesting fight in any case :P. This costs 179m which is about the same amount you'd pay for a combat Astero so actually this should be a pretty good scout hunter, able to easily dispatch any exploration ship it runs into, possibly including a scout hunting Astero depending on its fit if you happen to come across one, really a lot better than I expected, and this is without any faction equipment or drones. would put two inertials instead of an inertial and a nano: your sig gets a bit bigger, but you warp faster (not by much, but her 0.10 seconds is 0.10 seconds) and are more durable since you dont sacrifice hull for it (and makes the damage control more effective as well)

I prefer the meta over any other explorer because of the +2 warp core strength, 400 rig calibration over asteros 350 and a sub 2 second align time with 1 inertial stabalizer. 1 more mid slot would have been icing on the cake, ligature analysers arent cheap.

My scanning character has been using this thing non stop. . The ability to carry the moble depot makes me was to fit a reship for tackle if i find a ship i want to kill with my main while this guy is out scanning the chain. For now though i jist swap out scanning modules for hacking modules when i find hacking sites.

Given the innate +2 warp core str, I fit mine with a warp core stabilizer in case I ever get jumped while exploring, as I doubt many would fit 5+ scram strength for solo ganking unless they're actively hunting Ventures (if it's a well-organized gang, you're likely already dead unless you can warp out before the first lock hits). Sure, stabs gimp drone bandwidth to 7.5 => you can only use one drone but, realistically, those drones aren't going to be very helpful while exploring. Similarly, I can live with lower scan resolution on my explorer if it prevents me from being killed during a solo gank. 12:30 I was under the impression that, given you can't target-lock your ship, you thus can't use your own drones to repair said ship. A few years back I remember I had a fit that used drones in place of carrying around an armor and hull repair mod in my cargo hold for out-of-combat repairs (it was a shield fit, but the tank wasn't great, so I got into hull a few times) - problem was, once I tried to use the drones to repair my ship, I realized I couldn't self-lock. I tried to self-lock yesterday for unrelated reasons, so I know that hasn't changed - is there another way to order your own drones to repair your ship that I'm not seeing?

Finally something i can use that thing for, as it is just sitting in a station as i couldnt find a use for it The only thing i could not get is the praxis, i am kinda sad because of that. I am still trying to think out what to do with the gnosis, too

I tried adapting a PvP Astero fit onto this and ended up with a 2000 EHP gap in favor of the Astero, so unless you can crack their tank or manage to empty their drone bay and capacitor it's going to be tough. The problem is we've got a dozen different ways to hunt T1 or T2 explo frigates (I find the most fun is a rocket and blaster fit stealth bomber) but there's nothing that can match the Astero except another Astero. I'd love to see some pirate faction covops frigates that lose the data and relic bonus in favor of combat but I feel like I'll be waiting long past the heat death of the universe for that.

Been flying this ship in null since I got it and I rally like it 😊 Getting reckless on sites just to see if the +2 + stab will get me out of lock lol. Only 2 fraction scrams can lock and hold this ship 😊 fun so far

So, if we have all the skills, how does it par with anything? As good as Heron? Almost as good as the other random t1 hacker or not even close to the Astero? Come on, where can I find a 15 minute video telling me that?

Metamorphosis beats the Astero hands down. True it can't fit a nullifier... but to put one in the Astero you have to give up either the cloak or the probe launcher so I've never even tried. The Metamorphosis starts out with +2 core stabilization, which you can't match under any circumstances in the Astero (and if you go for the +1 you give up 3 drones and targeting range). With my skills I can get about 90 DPS (in an exploration fit) from the Astero, 125 (also in exploration trim) from the Meta. You can get more tank from an Astero, but that is really it's only strength in this comparison. Personally I don't use the Astero for PVP, and I wouldn't use the Meta either.. but I would think if you're hunting explorers a Meta would be a better choice. You have more DPS available, and if they're bait.. unless they're fit with faction scrams.. they can't hold you. I'm pretty impressed with this thing. Hopefully CCP doesn't decide it's OP and whack it with the nerf bat. Another excellent use for this ship with an expanded probe launcher…..scanning down drones. Literally thousands of drones are abandoned every day all over the cluster. Granted, the cargo is a little small for recovering heavies, sentries, and Geckos - but you have two mobile depots to store your finds. I highly recommend a salvager in the utility high.

Nice vid. I can give a little feedback as a complete freeloading alpha clone bum if anyone's interested lol. Exploration would be an alpha clones go-to for big isk gains in as little time as possible(at least that's my experience, in tact armor plates etc). So for me here's the lineup of potential candidates. 1. T1 exploration frigates, in particular, the Herron with it's 5 mid slots. Big cargo bay but vulnerable alignment. 2. Astero. A very expensive option by comparison but then again, what else to spend isk on? Plus the price of top equipment such as Sisters probe launcher and probes, top-end scanning rigs and so on, quickly translates into that sort of price and beyond. Even with an alpha can achieve a 2 second sort of alignment and has better bonuses for exploration than a T1 frigate but not massively so. Cargo is notably smaller and I have had a wet evening playing the game through WH space where I ran out of space and ya, the cargo space can be a problem. 4 mid slots though so that means both scanners, a propulsion AND one of the most useful exploration pieces imho, the cargo scanner to basically see what goodies are inside that what you are about to scan and decide which ones take priority and which ones maybe aren't even worth bothering with. That cargo scanner is essential in WH space and low sec as to spend the least time hanging about this very dangerous yet lucrative exploration regions. No risk, no isk. 3. Sunesis. No such cargo space issues, huge space, never an issue. This ship also has a 37.5% to scanner probe strength so it's great at dialing in on WH's and sites plus it's usually a lot cheaper than an Astero. Very sadly however, it has no Data or Relic virus resistance which sadly almost kills it as a viable choice since that virus resistance is essential for hacking sites while exploring. In fact, all of these things tend to scale. For example, the lower the sec, the higher the risk, the better the loot but also the harder they are to hack. Sooner or later, just like me, you too will eventually get annoyed at losing some high value loot because you failed to hack the lootbox at some site. That said, it's ginormous cargo and 2 second alignment time makes the Sunesis an alpha clone explorers best friend for hauling huge amounts of loot from your home station system to a market like Jita as quickly and safely as possible so it's found a new role for me. 4. Metamorphosis. Seems a little bit cheaper than an Astero and pricier than a Sunesis but as mentioned, the Sunesis does suffer without any data/relic virus resistance, especially for "serious" exploration in dangerous sectors and WH. What stands out as a big liability immediately is the 3 mid slots, OUCH! So normally an explorer would have a data and relic scanner and some sort of propulsion equipment, but as mentioned, imho an essential piece of equipment for any serious explorer is a cargo scanner to see what's inside things you may or may not attempt to hack. So this immediately makes the meta a poor choice in that regards. Now, some would argue that outside of events, Data sites are usually poor compared to Relic sites and that's 100% true if we were hack 20 of each and compare the value of their contents. On average, normal relic sites yield notably higher value contents than data sites. So with that in mind, for normal eve exploration between events etc, a player could simply replace the data scanner with a cargo scanner and that solves the problem. Fine, BUT, I kinda still like having both lol! Sometimes you will simply have an unlucky run where you scan down lots of things and travel through lots of WH's and just have no luck, no relic sites but lots of data sites so personally I like to be able to at least get a little something even from a data site as not to feel like a total waste of time lol. As outlined in this vid, where this ship has an edge over all of the other options mentioned is the 37.5% scan deviation reduction. That's fantastic obviously and maybe opens the door up for something else in a rig slot instead of all scanning rigs. Also, as mentioned in this vid and comments, it can add an expanded probe launcher(and does so without flinching the CPU!) which means a player can also bring along some combat scanning probes. Now, this ain't fighting anything and winning lol! at least not for an alpha noob like me! BUT, what it can do is make it more than just an purist exploration vessel and can instead do a little salvaging and recovery. That's not without its risks either obviously but hey, no risk, no isk! Overall for an alpha there's not much choice for exploration vessels so personally I welcome any additional option and the meta is therefore a very welcome addition imho. It's interesting and different enough in what it can do to be worth bothering with, but also limited enough(By having only 3 mid slots) to still make the likes of an Astero better in other ways, while the likes of the ultra-cheap and cheerful Herron with cheap equipment still has a place for a those that just don't want to stress about being destroyed repeatedly lol.

I have always thinking about exploring with this ship but I did not dare to do so with such a little HP. As a newbie I think I would have not noticed what happened before been shot down by something. If there is one more mid slot for a shield extender, I think I may feel safer😄
