Is the NEW 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L a better SUV than a Ford Explorer?

Love it! I recently became a Jeep (WJ) owner so I am a fan, especially with the changes they seem to be making, so would definitely look to get this in a couple of years

The best feature imo is cruise control. It pretty much drives on its own. We just got one for my mom from Dallas and I drove it back to Kentucky entirely on cruise control. I did not control anything the entire time except for when we needed to take gas stops. Oh also the V6 has amazing gas mileage for a suv that size

I like how the infotainment system looks built in instead of sticking up above the dash however it seems a little too low. I would have to sit in it to be sure, but it seems you would have to look down to see it.

I really wanted a 360 degree video view so I could look around while that offroad test was going on. That would be amazing!

I love the Jeep, but I love you too 😉. Anyhoo, I was randomly given an overland trim grand Cherokee at a rental counter several years ago and was able to keep it for an entire week. I was totally impressed with the ride and materials quality. It had the air ride suspension. I love a more squared off body style and the ride height that was offered. Previously I had mostly driven luxury vehicles such as lexus and infiniti. With that being said this generation looks even more impressive inside and out. I just don't know if I can afford the trim I like.

I understand that you don't like the look of the lower mounted rear wiper; but have you ever taken a good look at how well the top mounted versions work? Not very well. Without the wiper mounted at the bottom to "catch" the spray, they don't clean well. The washer fluid runs off before it can be spread across the glass. There's a reason Toyota went back to a lower mount on the Sienna after trying it up top for a few years.

Joe, did you notice that the top door indent doesn’t line up exactly with the front panel indent, they’re uneven. (Pause at 4:01) maybe even the front door indent with the back door indent no being lined up either. That would bug me if I am spending this type of money on a vehicle.

GM, and Ford will have to step up their game to compete with this thing. The interior alone is way ahead of the competition. Jeep is not cutting corners on the Cherokee L. That U connect is sweet. GM, and Ford can't compare.

I loved this SUV from Jeep. Is it worth buying Jeep for city drive only (no off-roading or towing )? I am looking for a 3 row SUV with 7/8 seater combination (2 + 3 + 2/3). Is overland model overpriced?

I love my Jeep Grand Cherokee!! It has all the luxury I would want along with the power. Not that I push it 😎 but it's really cool

It only has 18" wheels because it has the Off Road package (trail rated badge).

It definitely a better suv than the Ford Explorer

I think 58k for the v8 sounds pretty good. This two tone black and white exterior is just beautiful and i would right away get the 21' wheels. That's it, it would be the perfect SUV..

Went by and saw this at the Jeep Dealership today. As an owner of a 2015 JGC Summit I don't like 1. the front end styling and 2. the length. To me it went from mid-size SUV to almost Tahoe length. Fit and finish in the car are fantastic. I liked the Overland and Summit versions, but even the Limited was fairly nice. Just didn't do it for me yet. Maybe it will all grow on me.

Hello Joe. Good review and test drive video of this new generation 5th Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Also, good videography from your wife Laurie. Nice off roading courses which wasn't an issue with this Jeep. Usually a 3rd row seating SUV would do an OK job off roading, but this Jeep Grand Cherokee L did a very good job on the off road courses I've seen in this video and other You Tube channel videos. Based on pictures along with videos I've seen, the interior from the Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve looks great. The interiors from those three trim levels will give the interiors from the Cadillac XT6, Lincoln Aviator, Acura MDX, Mercedes GLE, BMW X5, Lexus RX 350L and Infiniti QX60 a run for their money. OBTW, the Explorer isn't a match with the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L will literally strip the pants off the Explorer in terms of performance, off road capability, overall exterior design schematics, interior features and interior comfyness. This year 2021 will belong to Jeep. Two new Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles will get released which will be the third row seating Jeep Grand Cherokee L to get released soon and the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the usual two rows of seats later in the year. Also, two Wagoneer full size SUVs will get released as well this year. The Jeep Wagoneer will compete with the regular full size SUVs while the Jeep Grand Wagoneer will compete with the luxury full size SUVs. Should be GRRREAT!! 👍👍

There’s a lot of content in this vehicle. The body panel gaps are atrocious though for a modern vehicle. I still feel that this will start to fall apart after warranty but before the loan is paid.

There is no V8 option on Jeep website for Overland. In fact, you have to go Summit Reserve to get V8 option. Preproduction model?

Owned two different grand Cherokee over lands loaded with 4x4 and unfortunately they were lemons. Disappointed in the V8 sound of the new Cherokee L. Needs some performance pipes to give it a growl. But 30" of visual pleasure lol love the way Joe makes ya laugh with the vehicle reviews!!!!!!

So will the 2 row Jeep have all the same options and the L?

I just got the 2022 Overland and it's not trail rated. Something changed from the 2021's. Odd.
