I bought MK8 Autobahn, except heating/cooling physical knobs, I really don't mind the new interior. 2022 Si looks better interior wise but try to find one for MSRP! Dealers near me asked for 35K for one which made me pay 4K more to get autobahn llaunch edition
I love how this platform has basically grown up with me. Si’s were super sporty back then with the coupes but now it’s like I’m older and the Civic Si is more mature looking now lol I would love to put some slight lowering springs on these just to reduce the wheel gap and keep it stock.
I respect you opinion. But as someone’s who’s relatively young and loved prior Honda’s. Seeing Honda move away from more sporty looking car’s has really made me quite sad. I remember when Toyota moved away from sporty cars and is now making an effort to come back. With the GR Supra, GR86/BRZ and the GR Corolla (which might be a civic/gti killer) really makes me wish Honda at least kept the coupe. Especially since they could’ve probably afforded to.
@@omarawilson2853 I just think that market (sub $30,000) is over saturated nowadays. There are better offerings than a sporty 200-hp Si such as the Miata. There’s also the Veloster N which is an amazing deal for the price. There’s the GTi, WRX, and GR(86)/BRZ. I personally got my 2019 Mustang GT at $28K brand new and I was picking between the Miata, Civic Si, and Veloster N. So I think they want to target a specific audience now who want sport and functionality at a good price point.
@@jd3330 yea I think that mustang was steal, and I’d pick that over the Miata and Civic in heartbeat. Honestly I just love the fact that Japanese sports cars are finally coming back and I think Honda chose the wrong time to really kill off their sporty line up
@@omarawilson2853 The GR Corolla is awesome but will definitely not be a civc killer. Its a AWD hatchback that will cost more than the Civic SI so it's not in the same class.
Great to see you have soooo much fun!! I own the canadian version in the same color and have to say how amazingly balanced the car is... Not to mention the quality!!!
I'm always wondering if a State Trooper is going to be coming round one of those corners and see's Joe coming flying around the corner laughing his ass off !!!!!
Thank you Joe and Lori for another awesome video. I have owned several Civic SI over the years, mainly 8th and 9th gen. Currently I have a 10th gen Civic EX-T model, and would like to get into another SI. Just debating whether to get a used 10th gen SI, or pay a mark up to get the new 11th gen. Really miss the manual transmission, as my car has a CVT now.
I bought a 2015 GTI new over the competition and don't regret it. But if I bought new today, only the lack of a hatchback (and heated seats) would keep me from buying the Si. I love everything else about this new Civic
Living in Canada, it amazes me how Honda USA shafted their customers big time. Interesting how in Canada the Si is a top trim and you can only get 1.5T on the Touring while in the US, the Si is cheaper than a Touring and you can get the 1.5T on the EX trim. Canada: LX (2.0), EX (2.0), Sport (2.0), Touring (1.5T), Si (1.5T) US: LX (2.0), Sport (2.0), EX (1.5T), Si (1.5T), Touring (1.5T).
Just love watching different types of vehicles with style and class that brings much power to the people all around... yes, thank you for giving the people such quality of cars to choose daily and continue to bring more to us...
So apparently the Civic tires get magically wider as the video progresses. 7:29 they are 205 tires. 8:28 they widen to 225s. Now at 24:06 they are 235s in all 4 corners. On a 35 min video they could have gotten to 305s.
Just ordered one. Had several V.A.G. Cars in the past. New Audi’s and premium Volkswagens. Drive Honda for 7 years now and will never return to Audi or Volkswagen. Honda is nice driving, bulletproof and low cost in maintaining. Best choice for the money.
Having owned VW, and Audis, and BMW. For years. I decided to give Honda a try and Al though reliable oh god they are not in the same leauge. The Germans over all are much better engineered, have less highway drone, are faster, tune better, have more features have more premium options etc. that’s just me tho
I love this review and I love all of Joe’s videos. I’m really considering getting the Civic SI for 2022, 11th gen. I like the dual exhaust in the back with the flat black trim. I also think the regular silver Honda badges are perfect. No need for black or any other color, unless Honda starts making other color civics in the SI. Thanks Joe this review and all the ones you do. You’re the best at what you do. And I only rely on your videos.
Great car Joe... But you cannot find in CA for $28K, that's a joke. If Honda is reading this wonderful! I've contacted Customer Service in Torrance, CA. They tell me to contact the Sales Manager at my local dealership to see how they can earn my business. Lol. Unfortunately here in CA the dealers are really sticking it to the buyers with these insane mark-ups over MSRP from $3K up to $10K. HMC really you need to talk to these folks like Ford and Subaru are doing... Yes I get they are all independent dealers.. But still, these "stealerships" are not doing your customer base any favors if people cannot afford to buy...I have a 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan with 252K I am looking to replace with this car. Not with that joke price...$37,490 with $5K "Mark-Up" and $4K of "Accessories"
If you notice, all cars that are pushed heavy by RU-vidrs now are the ones that have the highest markups. Dealers have recorded record profits now thanks to all of these hyped cars
Dang, I'm totally love the paint job & the design on this vehicle honda made. Also I would like to drive the brand-new 22' honda civic around town soon if get my driver's test done soon. But excellent review joe.
I love the colour and definitely it looks more spacious than the GTI !! Thanks for the great review. I got the 2L touring accord recently 252 hp and it drives amazing !!
Great review as always, thank you sir. Glad you gave kudos for the volume knob and knocked the lack of fog lights. Also wish it had side mirror turn signals. Don't mind the lack of dedicated button to toggle the auto rev matching as most people will leave it on or off all the time. Overall, it's the antithesis of the boy racer 10th gen but the only real problem, and maybe a deal breaker, is the lack of a spare tire. Not acceptable in a car this size.
This is gonna be my next car. Hopefully by the end of this year. I will go for black and get the black honda emblem and everything. The only one visible will be the si badge
I really think the performance sedans are the best vehicles....Sonatas, civics, Camry's, accord's, Kia K5s & Stingers, I wish the Fusion was still be made...the fusion's would've been nice in this generation of performance sedans
8:01 my goodnessss that revised rear end with the black center-dipper spoiler, Audi-esque taillights, and dual outlet exhaust tips just looks soooo clean and gorgeous I love this new gen civic 😭🙏
Another great review in the books!! I currently have a 2019 Si and, as expected, it's been bulletproof! I actually prefer the look of the new one so I will consider it in a year or two, but, yeah, I just wished Honda would have infused it with at least 20 to 30 more hp. I am looking forward to seeing what Acura does with its Civic Si treatment of their Integra, love the hatchback utility! But again, if it has identical power, I fear that the Integra will be even slower since it's the hatchback version and it will probably have more equipment and sound deadening which will equal to more weight. We shall see I guess.
Pretty disappointing that the new civic si still only has 200hp. They needed to step up the HP for the si for a while now. 200/205 is kinda low. Shit the new Toyota Corolla gr makes 300hp on 3 cylinders!
@@simonsmith582 exactly. I’d be happy with a solid 230-250. It can EASILY be done too. The motor displacement isn’t an issue, neither is the turbo. I can very easily be done (and still be reliable) I guess that’s their way to push the type r. Which is an amazing car. I’d die for a type r. But the power gap is way too big for them to both be sport versions.
If my only choice was between this and a GTI, I’d pick this SI. Between a ‘22 GTI and a ‘72 Pinto, I’d pick the Pinto. I had a 2007 GTI and it cost more in repairs over 8 years than the Pinto cost brand new. This new gen Civic looks like a boring Accord got busy with a boring Jetta and made a baby. I prefer the Mazda 3 turbo’s styling over any other current compact sedan or hatch.
Love it Joe, I almost got the Si but decided to go with touring. I love it except the back up camera is so blurry it’s terrible, also wireless charging issues with iPhone 13
The Civic SI is definitely 👌 impressive 👏! For the money 💰, you are getting tremendous performance and fun factor! Without a doubt I would buy a Civic SI over the GTI any day of the week! Great review as always 👏 Joe!
Sir Raiti! Just subscribed! 🏆 You make the best car reviews in the business - your wife too! Tons of value with room for a few Moon Pies! 🌜✨ One GLARING issue with this car: no hatchback!! 😖 I’d still take it though! Thanks man!
I must be the only one watching this with a big grin on my face..I have to admit Honda did an exceptional job on this civic it's definitely a winner 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
All the Honda dealers I checked were doing “market adjustments” and stuffing mandatory dealer upgrades totaling $5k to $10k over msrp…so I bought a late model STI for about what the Honda msrp’d.
I am fine with the manual seat with one exception, no lumbar support adjustment of any kind. My 49 year old back that has been subjected to a physical occupation for over 2 decades would very much appreciate it. Unless it's adequately built in to the Si's sport seats that is.
Good review but a little confusing on the tires. At three different points in the review, you stated three different tire widths: 205, 225 and 235. Which is it?
the best thing about "wringing the neck" of a lower hp car is that, when they are as light as the SI they are planeted in the corners, and when they are well engineered as the SI, they are affordable to "wring". 100k of hard abuse, no problem. will return 38mpg on mile 100k.
I drove a 10th gen si coupe, the new si, and a gr86. If you can tell by my profile pic there was a clear winner. But the 10th gen si coupe was a close 2nd place.
This Si is good to gooooooooooooo!!! I'm on my fifth Honda/ third Civic and I'm absolutely happy with it!!! Totally agree on the zonks but overall man, it's worth every penny!!! And the drive section was pure joy!!! 🔥 👍🏾 Great review as usual Joe and Lori!!!!
YES, red backrest on back seats, like running the marathon , and making a right before the finish line. Great review, since I’m considering this ride next
It allows much better fuel economy and tune-ability for more power. 10th did the same thing. 8-9th made less power on the dyno. But of course a 1.5 will need a turbo to compete with a 2.4….
This is the first generation of Civic that actually looks great. They were ridiculously ugly for far too long-especially last generation which looked like it was a Hotwheels designed for teenagers. One of the only compact sedans that can compete with the Mazda3 in terms of interior quality and exterior design language. My only wish is that they would offer an AWD variant.
Definitely don't agree with continuing to compare this car with the VW GTI. At this point, they are in completely different classes and categories. Hatchback vs Sedan, and the GTI is so much more powerful. It's not even close, and not a valid comparison.
@@RaitisRides What I'm talking about is that despite having those things in common they are not competitive with each other. Cars having shared commonalities doesn't necessarily make them competitors or even in the same class of vehicle. Is a Nissan Sentra turbo (with a manual) on par and competitive with a VW GTI? They all share the same things you mentioned. What about the vw Jetta ? Should we start comparing that to the GTI or even the civic SI ? (I think not). How about the Hyundai Elantra n line or Kia Forte GT? Again, they all check the boxes you mentioned, yet any sane person would clearly admit are all inferior vehicles to the VW GTI. Even the civic SI is superior to these cars, but it's a lot closer, thus at least arguably worthy of a comparison.
@@pj8761 I agree. People really try to force the Si being close to the GTI or GLI but it's really not. having fun with an SI around the curves for a week or two is different. When you own both cars, the GLI/GTI are just in different leauges
i just dont like the rear light design though it looks really generic and bland-kinda like an accord. i definitely prefer the hatchback version instead.
Yes, I literally was thinking the same thing. Like why not just put the more angular ones on the hatch & sedan body styles⁉️ Why do they always try to do the sedans more generic to hatchback counterparts? Before the Chevy Cruze was discontinued the hatchback also had way better taillights and the old Elantra/Forte hatch styles.
@@lryoung17 honda’s are known for boring tail light designs. Not sure why they don’t improve upon them though. I’d like these Si tails much more if they removed a lot of that grey part.
Very nice Honda. Less horsepower is ok because when you go through some twisty roads that is where it shines. I used to own a Toyota Celica GT-S and that did not have lots of horsepower, but I loved that car for it's great balance. Plus, owning a car like that Civic Si will not break the budget or break your wallet at the pumps. Great review Joe and Lori!
My daughter likes the Type R. All I see is they start at 90k for the track edition. Are they coming out with a cheaper one? If not she might have to settle for a Si. Great video.
First of all, cheers to Lory Joe, do u think Korean rivals like elantra have reached the overall quality n reliability of the Japanese? Now elantra N is posing strongly in this category
Damn, Joe! Few red bulls in today?!!! :))))))) I just got back from KC on a 12 hour trip to get a GLI S off the showroom floor. Love it. I appreciate you reviewing it for us, it helped with my decision. By far, my favorite car reviewer. Bought a lot of cars based on your review mixed with my car insanity. I think I am finally calmed and tamed now. Thanks again!
I really want to like this car, especially because I'm looking that infotainment, the sound system, manual only, and the new chassis, but it still feels like it costs too much. If it was as feature packed as the Canadian version, OR came with the Type R motor detuned, then I can see the price being justified. But $28k+ is a lot of money for this package.
@@SIIKAP1 Yeah I agree, it should've been 26k max. The Elantra N Line that competes with this is under 25k and is more feature compete, aside from not having an LSD. At least the base WRX and base GTI haven't gone up that much, but options can add that price up
This is my next lease this coming October! I wish it had a 2.0L 230-250HP engine..with it being manual it'll probably feel like 220HP..can't wait! Thanks JOE!
so, just so you know; people have dyno'ed the new Si right off the dealership floors, and they are putting down about 200WHP, which translates to about 230 Crank HP. ;)
@@stavroslask1292 I was skeptical at first, but you can RU-vid it, several people have done that, and considering Honda’s recent history of underrating their cars… like the Accord 2.0T puts down 260-265WHP vs rated at 252hp, and the Type R rated at 306HP putting down (stock of course) 300WHP meaning about 340HP at the crank.
Joe, right now I’m driving a 2018 Honda Odyssey with Si badges affixed to the front and rear. That tells you all you need to know about how I roll. I had a 2009 Si coupe and it remains quite possibly my favorite car or #2 at the least. I still regret selling it. I’d strongly consider this if I were in the market to buy a new car. My problem is that I like and want everything, but having the ability to buy something, I’d likely go towards something fun. If I had to cast off the Odyssey but still find something practical, I think this car would easily fit the bill. Thanks for feeding my dreams. Be well, my friend.
