Thanks for dropping your review. I think this just saved me $250. The pickup seems underwhelming. Would love to see it in a shootout on the same bass with standard P pickups by Aguilar and DiMarzio.🙏
@@sonojon0Legit jazz single coils with built-in shielding might be a nice option if they can retain the crisp attack, this p pup didn't seem as aggressive as I'm used to
even through the RU-vid compression these pickups sound noticeably different. I like the way they look and don't hate the way they sound perhaps the pole pieces need some adjustments or a higher pot value. I want to check out the Jazz set. Cheers 🍺🇨🇦
The geezer butler emg is a better value. I have the p/j version in my squier and couldn’t be happier. They are cheaper and retain that clarity and attack. Plus it’s a solderless system.
@@denattheoakleyoutpost6740 the j pickup in the pj set is a long j so it may not fit every bass always check your measurements. The j pickup is also quieter then the p. If wired correctly it will all work. I switched 2 wires on the output jack and it hummed it’s supposed to be noiseless. Emg pots are solid shaft and won’t fit press on split shaft knobs.
Thanks for the review. In Australia 🇦🇺 they retail for a WHOPPING $450. Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders retail for about $170, almost three times less. The DiMarzio Relentless DP299s also with adjustable pole pieces retail for $219. Way too much, in my view. 🤘🎸🎸🤘
I’m actually wicked impressed with this pickup. Sound best with rounds, imo. Perfect replacement for an Affinity P-bass. If you don’t mind a pickup worth twice the price of the bass, lol…. Which I don’t mind.
Didn't blow me away, tbh. There was fullness ibut no attack to speak of. Would be mildly interesting to hear what adjusting the pole pieces would do to the sound.
Thanks for the review. You want more than merely OK for that kind of money. I'd rather have a G&L split MFD, or the 45 year old pickup in my Yamaha BB1200 over these. They do look cool though, I'll give them that, but I don't buy pickups to look cool unless they sound good too.
a little ‘hot’ for my taste. I guess maybe if you’re going for that “70s precision tone”… but I wouldn’t get them to replace in a “60s P” (can you get a Customized Wind?)
My favorite pickups still to date are the nordstrand np4a I also like the np4v Depends on the bass with that. These pickups are okay. I replaced my am pro II pickups because they were way too bright on the attack especially with a pick and they were designed by Tim Shaw also. Peoples opinion could be different it’s just a me thing on that.
I actually really like the sound of them, almost like they already have a little bit of drive. And wow, they are really good looking, imo. Oh damn just saw the price nvm lol
They seem a bit lacking in top end - what size tone cap do you have? So many builders make great P pickups across the world, this seems fruitless. Are they potted? Microphonic? Cheers xxx
Fender has to do something. Folks just aren't gonna jump up and plunk down their $$ for the same P bass they bought last year or ten years ago. That said I have to say that my Nate Mendel with it's S. Duncan Quarter Pounder pups does all that but better. No need to buy this "New Hotness".
- oh yeah, sounds nice, looks fine and could look great with mirror pickguard... - "that'll be 250$" - that'll be HELL NO Thanks for the review Sonojono! 🤘
@@sonojon0 I have an old Dimarzio pickup in my mid-80s MIJ Precision bass that has adjustable pole pieces. The modern version of these costs less than half of those Fender pickups and they sound great! I also have a short scale SX bass that I put the DiMarzio pickups with the rail style magnets and they sound great too. I'll get around to trying the Relentless P pickups eventually, I have seen several good reviews on them. Thanks!
Idk these cobalt chrome pickups suck for the price, it they were the same price as a DiMarzio model P or some other similar priced pickup it would be awesome but tbh they don't fit the price bracket they are trying to achieve
Hmmm... Disappointing pick ups. Bummer. I thought SD's quarterpounders and Di Marzio Relentless were going to get a good run for their money but... oh well... They're Fender, so I guess they will still sell, nonetheless. I'll pass. Thank you for goodreview.
Agreed! I was thinking they’d be a revolutionary pickup in the bass world. Looks like I set my expectations too high and need to come back down to reality lmao 💀
They’re…fine? Nothing special. Overpriced p-bass pickup snake oil to my ears in a shiny housing. Only interesting thing there is the adjustable pile pieces…and I can buy several sets of (superior) G&L sb-1 pups for this price tag lol Grifter’s gon grift. Fender’s just doing their thing.
