Join ‪@midlifecrisismotorcyclist‬ for a full ride and review of the new Triumph Daytona 660 to find out whether it’s a true successor to the much-loved 600, 650 and 675 or little more than ... a Trident 660 with a fairing. This review is from the international press launch for the new Daytona, held on the mountain roads outside Alicante.
With regard to the quickshifter mentioned in the onboard commentary the price quoted was correct at the time but Triumph has since clarified that for UK buyers it will be £316.12, plus another £50 or for fitting. Apologies for the confusion but this only came to light after we’d finished our ride.
You’ll also have heard me talk about some number crunching against the bike’s key rivals. As promised here are the key stats and UK market starting prices for comparison:
Triumph Daytona 660 - £8,595, 660cc triple, 95hp, 67Nm, 201kg
Suzuki GSX-8R - £8,899, 776cc parallel-twin, 83hp, 78Nm, 205kg
Honda CBR650R - £8,600, 649cc 4-cyl, 95hp, 63Nm, 208kg
Yamaha R7 - £8,910, 689cc parallel-twn, 73hp, 67Nm, 188kg
Kawasaki Ninja 650 - £7,359, 776cc parallel-twin, 68hp, 193kg
Thanks for watching and for more great motorbike content - including the upcoming review of the Suzuki GSX-8R as mentioned in the video - don't forget to like, subscribe to ‪@midlifecrisismotorcyclist‬ and hit the bell for notification of the latest uploads!

Nice to see a review that’s no just banging on about how it doesn’t compare to the old Daytona… It’s a different bike for a different type of rider! Nice one… Subbed!

Great review from a, dare I say, average rider. Like me. All those who cry it’s not a Daytona haven’t moved on to the modern era. This is a semi-sports bike for 2024. Triumph know more that I do and most commentators. They’ve done the research. I’ve ordered one. I think it will suit me and modern day riding brilliantly. Hope I’m not wrong.

I finally get to see a hands-on review of the Daytona 660! Thank you so much! I think you are the first one to show us riding footage.

Great review! I’ve got one on order and despite the negative comments from some, it’s an ideal bike for me. I can’t do supersports bikes due to a back injury so these are the next best things. Refreshing to hear from someone who is going into it more or less blind and not influenced by others 👍🏻 Can’t wait to test ride and hopefully buy one!

Hi Dan, I am one of the engineers from the original team that designed the Trident and Tiger Sport, I didn't know about the Daytona until January and have been watching everything that's come out about it. I think your video is the first that I have seen that is grounded and looks at it from a more sensible and open perspective. Great job! By the way, did you get much of a look at the frame and underseat area?
@midlifecrisismotorcyclist
@midlifecrisismotorcyclist 3 месяца назад
That means a lot - thanks! Though I’ll have to confess I failed on the underseat stowage thing - meant to check it out but in excitement never quite got round to it! There is, I think, a USB charge port under there by all accounts!

I have done more than 20K on my Tiger Sport 660, and with a Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3, it is one hell of a fun machine. But my honest thought always has been that the TS660 has a huge potential to evolve into something explosive yet sweet. I think Daytona 660 was the one shot Triumph had, but as far as I can see, this is a half-baked effort to keep the price point low, which in turn has failed in taking the 660 to its fullest potential as a more premium sports machine with all the bells and whistles it should come loaded with (dashboard for example is stolen from TS 660, so are many other parts)

@hurry1274 I'm glad to hear that you are still happy with the Tiger sport! Remember, this is the all-new Daytona built on a budget platform, it's not going to have the premium accessories like the old premium Daytona, but they probably will be available at a premium... I think it's a good sign, maybe they are testing the waters to see if they can still sell a sports bike before investing time and money into designing and developing a new premium sports bike, this way, if it doesn't sell, it's minimum loss. Who knows what could be next.

Well the team should have called this bike something different. This is a cash grab just like the Suzuki. Use a cool name and some people will buy it. This could have been a class leader but instead triumph decided to make an overweight underpowered bike.

Really great review mate thank you.I'm seriously considering ordering one honestly. What would you choose between the Daytona 660, Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660?
@midlifecrisismotorcyclist
@midlifecrisismotorcyclist 3 месяца назад
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed it. And to your question totally down to the kind of riding you do, I guess. Longer distance and/or mixed commuting probably the Tiger Sport, city hoonery or short country blasts the Trident and for proper fast road riding definitely the Daytona. No wrong answer, and with a triple at the core of them it's a win whichever you go for. Sorry, not especially helpful but it's so down to what you need to do with it. Cheers!

Which do you prefer for riding position and comfort this or the trident ?
@midlifecrisismotorcyclist
@midlifecrisismotorcyclist 3 месяца назад
For town/general riding the more upright Trident is more comfy and easier for seeing what's going on - shoulder checks are a bit more of a stretch from the racy riding position on the Daytona. But, flipside, at just shy of six foot I found the Trident just a little on the small side, much as I loved it. On that basis and if I was only riding faster roads then the Daytona would be the one for me, but it'll come down to the kind of riding you want to do in the end.

Well that was a good question and I just wanted to add that what you lacked in riding experience was more than compensated for by your honesty and your experience in writing shone through. I'm a returning rider in his mid 50's who has got back onto a CBR400RR after years of not riding so perhaps this sort of bike is aimed at guys like me who want something more for the road not track. Thanks for the review.@@midlifecrisismotorcyclist

@@davidbarton7463 Thanks, kind words indeed. And while I only took up riding recently I used to read bike mags back in the day and always fancied bikes like yours. I'll have to have a go on one at some point and see if they're as good as I imagine - love grey import JDM cars of that era so hoping the bikes have a similar vibe. Stay tuned for the review of the GSX-8R as mentioned in the vid as well - really interested to see how that compares given it's playing to the same crowd.

Looking fwd to your take on the GSX-8R as I fancy something comfortable to complement my pocket rocket, I'm about 5'11 so similar to yourself. Great time to be looking at the middle weights if not any bike, After seeing the video's from Honda's launch of the Fireblade & CBR600RR the new 600 looks very tempting too.@@midlifecrisismotorcyclist

A street triple R 765 is 9995.00 usd at my dealership. This is a cash grab using the Daytona name on a trident motorcycle. It would’ve have been better received if it would’ve been named a trident R or something else. If you’re gonna build a Daytona, it should have the 765 engine in it. IMHO
@voltronmccloud3310
@voltronmccloud3310 2 месяца назад
Daytona's have had engines all over the displacement range throughout the years. The 765 was just one variation of the Daytona. The 660 is just a new variation of the Daytona.

@ryanoliver-vi9gm
@ryanoliver-vi9gm 3 месяца назад
But that’s the problem. The names they are giving these shouldn’t be a super sport name. This bike is 95hp and weighs 443 lbs. why not just throw some plastics and clip ons at a street triple r? This bike is what $1000 less? This so called new market is dominated by twins so they can compete in the twins cup. Triumph has a good twin as well they could’ve put in this and competed.
@ryanoliver-vi9gm
@ryanoliver-vi9gm 3 месяца назад
But why a triple? I understand triumph makes a great triple I myself have a street triple r. But this segment wants the twin cylinder. The r7 Aprilia rs660 Suzuki gsxr8r were all made to compete in the twin cup. Triumph as well as Honda left themselves out of their market for what? Triumph has a good twin engine that makes 100hp why not use that? Also if these companies are going to down the power stop making the bikes so heavy! This bike is 443 lbs!! That’s insane. This bike should be 400 lbs wet tops.

Yeah and weighs 40 Lbs more. It’s a shame these manufacturers not just triumph are naming these bikes after super sports. This bike had a chance to rule this segment but instead like Suzuki just cheaped out and said let’s give people less power and more weight and name it after an iconic bike. I’ll say it again this segment is for twin cylinders and low weight and as of now Aprilia owns it. I hope Honda makes a cbr 750r.

Not happy with your review - If you are finding it sooo difficult Sit on the bike and ride it - then you don’t deserve to make a review of a sports bike mate - you need to ride an electric scooter. Juts from the look of it I can make out it is not a aggressive bike at all - Only you are not use to sitting on a bike like this. You cannot be talking only negative about how you feel on the bike - you might not be physically suited to this bike & the Honda hornet you talk of is a piece on crap in front of a triple cylinder Triumph. Go ride an electric ……
