The original Audi R8 debuted back in 2008 and had everyone interested about what its capabilities were. It was aimed directly at the Porsche 911 and was coming from a company, Audi, who wasn't really known for making mid engine sports cars. The example I have today is the V8 version of the Audi R8 with the R-tronic automatic transmission.
When i drove the V10 variant of the R8, I loved it because of the howling exhaust from the V10 and when I was going to get the chance to drive the V8, i was really excited. I wasn't sure what I expect but I did know that several people actually prefer the V8 to the V10 because of sound and also daily drivability.
I walked away from the V8 R8 in amazement. I had so many thoughts when i driving this car. Its a true drivers car even with the automatic transmission. There is a specific engagement that it delivers that makes it a unique experience. Watch the full video to find out what I think.

Which would you pick, v8 or v10 R8?

Idk I prefer the v10 for the supercar sound

I'd pick the gated manual V8 all day because it's a better car and get's better mileage. The V10 is only for sound. The balance is worse, cos it weighs 100kg more. Gated V8's are going to be the best buy for the future imo. The BMW m3 CS E46 is also the best drivers car, even compared to the CSL.

I did pick. I chose a V8 R8 manual and never looked back. As you said, it's a subjective choice. First of all for me, it's go manual or go home! So Gen 2 was out (even if I could afford it lol). The extra horsepower bump of the V10 doesn't bother me as my 306HP Nissan 350Z was more than enough on English roads. So it came down to looks, sounds and price. I do prefer the flared out side blades of the V10 R8 but I've always been a sucker for the low roar of a V8. The sound won out and as a bonus the V8 was about £10k-£15k cheaper than the V10 counterpart. By the sounds of it on the vid, that was a stock exhaust and look how much you was smiling. Trust me the exhaust is sooo muted out the factory. Whack an aftermarket exhaust on there and Oh. My. God! I swear it is ear-gasmic!!! In short, even if I had enough money to buy the 2023 R8 GT, I'd still buy a manual R8 V8.

Must get an aftermarket exhaust. Also, the V8 engine feels so much more torquey than the specs indicate. It's a legendary engine that should get more acknowledgement.

@@stepbystepsurgery3616 Likewise with me, cheeky Londoner with a V8 manual. But let's face it, it's difficult not to smile when you're anywhere on the other side of 7,000 revs in that car.
