The quality of your videos always amazes me, amazing video. I had a pretty similar experience during my playthrough, some crashes, performance issues but overall i enjoyed it so much, i've got to play with mouse and keyboard and it was so great how the controls were adapted so well to this option, i really liked this port, i hope they fix the performance issues soon because i really want to replay it. Again amazing video.
The possible stability issues are absolutely a dealbreaker.... For now... But if they are addressed in a future patch you can bet I'll be adding this thing to my steam library.
Oh my god, I've known about this port for months and it has NEVER crossed my mind that this is the first time Ratchet and Clank has native mouse and keyboard support. That NEVER crossed my mind!
As someone who plays on PS5 & is very unlikely to ever move to PC, this port has still been really exciting for me. For one, there are a number of features introduced that serve as a sort of proof of concept for potentially happening on PS5 if Insomniac ever manage to spare the resources (& I do mean IF because I understand that they definitely have their hands full with other projects atm). The obvious one was as you said, the control types. The PS5 can support both gyro & M&K, but it’s up to individual games to decide whether to include support in their games. A couple of months ago I played Deep Rock Galactic purely because they had included exactly those control features & it was really fun to play the game in a new way, & I know I would feel the exact same way about R&C. The other feature was the FOV slider, because FOV is always nice, having your character take up less of your screen. But when I brought that up on the subreddit someone mentioned that FOV can strain performance with more assets on screen & what not. So I’d be stoked if they managed to bring an FOV slider to PS5, but I wouldn’t be mad if they couldn’t. The other thing that’s made me glad is that the subreddit has seemed a lot more vibrant recently since the PC port’s release. Even if you filter out all the technical posts, there’s a lot of people coming in sharing their goofy moments with bugs, sharing opinions & actually politely disagreeing with each other & OPs. Just nice, as someone who’s been around for a while, I’ve definitely noticed a shift recently. It’s a shame that the port hasn’t done very well, apparently being the 3rd worst selling port of a PS exclusive. But R&C is a particular niche, & between that & people not wanting to pay full price for a port of a 2 year old game with plenty of issues, at least in its current state that’s an understandable outcome. Overall, I’m pleasantly surprised by the PC port, as I thought it wouldn’t affect me in the slightest, but I stand corrected. Even if I don’t like RA itself as a game too much, I consider this to be a W.
I agree, the mouse and keyboard controls were surprisingly... Awesome! I thought it'd be weird playing it that way since, well, 1 there could be some weird input lag which immediately puts me off of playing something with a mouse, and B I'm used to playing R&C with a controller, but it feels amazing to play! Though... Uh.. Performance-wise... I've been having a terrible time with it, for the most part.. Had an RX 5700 XT a few days ago and I was going down to the 20s sometimes (1440p, no upscaling because every single one of them made the game look worse AND run worse?)... Now with an RTX 3070, with DLSS set to Balanced I can sometimes get over 100FPS at 1440p, but I still go down to the 40s sometimes. All in all, I'm glad I didn't see anyone playing through it so I can see it for myself for the first time :3 Hope to do the same with Ghost of Tsushima one day, hehe 😁 Edit: Regarding bugs, I'm at around 60% completion so far and only found 2, relatively minor ones. One was, the boots thingy, to get speed, it wasn't working when I was facing a certain direction, but worked when I turned around? Which wasn't that bad since it was right before a ramp, and after the ramp everything was fine. The other was in the fight in Pierre's ship, before the pirates destroy it. I jumped onto a certain place and was locked behind a weird invisible wall? But the boss could still hit me :( So yeah, I just died, respawned and everything was fine again. Sometimes when I jump onto things I start falling in mid-air and sometimes die, but that's really minor :3 No crashes or anything though!
Seamless loading has been around for a long time, the fact they're still using curtains to mask the transition proves it could have been done on older hardware. I think they just got to up their asses with tech. The art looks great, but I see no reason this shouldn't be running on my systems. Its requirements are silly.
I only ever crashed during my playthrough when I was trying to stream to discord. Even then, it only crashed when first loading a save. I did have a serious vRam leak when you changed just about any graphics settings. I played on High preset with DLAA at 3440x1440p on a 3080 and r7 5800x avg 100fps roaming and 70fps fighting. From my experience, it has been one of the best ports we have had so far. Definitely performed much better than I thought it would and was well worth $60 as someone who grew up playing ratchet and clank and does not have a ps5.
Good to know I wasn't the only one that experienced the crashes and locks. My PC meets requirements for the 2nd to highest graphics. Played on medium to get more frames and it crashed so much.
I had the same experience on a 12400 and 3080 rig. Tried everything to fix it, and then I read about cleaning out the app cache files. Figured I would try it. The game does appear to be fixed, but the game patch occurred the same day, which I suspect was the actual fix.
A little late but I would like to give you a small clarification; You are using DLSS 3, NVIDIA's bogus marketing basically makes out the only upgrade with DLSS iterations to be the extra features such as Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction which are almost mutually exclusive. With every revision the upscaler gets significantly better (and bigger in file size) so you will have an upgrade no matter what generation of card you use (or even what game you're playing if you use a more recent driver version). This October we got DLSS 3.5.10, but there is no marketing for that since it is simply an upscaler update... Also, I have played on extremely similar specs to yours (I think only my CPU is significantly different, 9900K), and I have no crashes. Those stability issues have definitely been ironed out in the time I waited for a sale to play the game, I saw in one of the NVIDIA driver updates that there was a fix related to Rift Apart, so there may have been driver-level issues rather than just game stuff.
So far the only crashes i have experienced myself was 1 when i got about 30 minutes into the game. And 1 when i was about 9 hours into the game. There 100% is a issue somewhere from within the game but apart from that. I have been having a blast playing myself through this for the first time, as it was the only ratchet game i had not played yet and did not want to get a PS5 just for it. 100% a recommendation
i noticed more crashes on windows 11 then on windows 10 but what bothered me was a huge graphical issue with raytracing lighting and shadows bugging out
I have wanted a ps5 to play rift apart for so long so once i saw it i bought it. I just beat it and there were a couple times where it just stopped up and crashed but overall it ran surprisingly well for a docked steam deck
Rift Apart has huge circular deadzones (at least they are circular) and tons of diagonal restriction on PS5 + extreme auto aim. Doesn't help with it feeling good to play.
i think my biggest complaint is that a 2 year old game is still £50. I was hoping it would be a bit cheaper. even £40 would be nice. i cant afford to spend £50 on a game.
While I wouldn't say the port is bad in terms of performance for a 2023 release (look at Remnant 2 if you wanna know what no optimization is), it is far from acceptable in my opinion and pales in comparison to Nixxes' best work when porting games. I got a 5800H/RTX 3070 (140W) laptop which gives me on average the performance of a 3060 Ti desktop in most games. However, in Ratchet I get even worse frames than your 2060 Super, changing settings barely makes a difference and is VERY unstable as you said. In Blizar Prime I would drop into the low 20's during grind rails and scenes with multiple particles, Torren IV was unplayable for the most part at 20-25 fps whereas I was getting 80 to 120 fps in Kedaro Station, massive difference. Regarding crashing, for me it happens mostly on death and sometimes when changing planets, never got a random crash. Out of the 10h I've played so far I must have crashed like 12 times, so not too bad on that front but it shouldn't be happening to begin with. I suspect that when I get to later planets such as Zordoom that the crash count will be way higher. As for bugs, yeah there are a couple and there's also bugs configuring the game's options which tells me that they definitely overlooked this and rushed the development. For example, if you try to set a text language other than English for subtitles and try to turn the in-game dialogue to that language (specified by the Audio in English toggle), it will simply revert to ON all the time and you can never change it. (I've tried this with Portuguese, and since it was on the PS5 version of the game, there's no reason it would not be included here) So yeah still a long way to go before it is in a playable state, sad reality of gaming nowadays... I'm really looking forward to it, especially considering the possibility of modding the game, but it's definitely not ready yet.
I didnt have any crashes... But my hardwear be a little out dated With GTX 1080 and i5... So i can only run it on lowest settings with upscaling and but it works well... Havent came across anything game breaking
graphics and stability aside tho I have 0 interest in rift apart sole because of its story which feels like a slap to the face if you grew up playing the originals on ps2. its nice to see nefarious again and him bouncing off an alternate universe nefarious whos posh and never fails, its neat. . . but the fact they use the rift travel to excuse the retcon to lombax anatomy that has already been established with both angel and ratchets mom. I'm sure the gunplay is fine too, but I haven see too many weapons I recognize from past games. and as far as I can tell both clank and his alternate don't get a whole lot of play time being purely backpacks and occasionally a fighting robot, not even on par with mech clank from going commando.
It's not as good as the first four games were. Still pretty fun but the optional content all sucks. Only the main missions are decent. And no co-op. Also Rivet has no boobs.
interestingly, my pc specs are significantly worse than yours, and my game runs at 30fps at best at a really bad resolution, and gets really choppy during combat especially. but ive had barely any crashes. in the 20 hours ive put into the game so far ive only had 2, which still isnt great, but that seems way better than what you got while playing. it makes me wonder if maybe having to turn off a ton of the fancier graphics options means that whatever is causing crashes for other people wasnt present for me.
Since my TV go to 120fps, I dont try to go highter. Although to give you idea, I have a 4070ti and without DLS, I have a stable 120fps with Raytracing but in 1440p with everyting maxxout. no 4k. One thing helped is to delete "dstorage.dll" and "dstoragecore.dll" in the folder of the game. I got better result in performence without it. Unfortunally, I get crash sometime like you and it seem to be a general problem since it happened on a 4090 too. Overall, R&C are alway a fun game.
