This game and it's cutscenes just ooze charm. Makes me so happy when game devs put so much love and passion into a project because it results in amazing work like this. Kinda wish it was an actual movie though, the quality of the cutscenes are just insane, with pretty amazing voice acting as well. Good writing too.
@Caleb Imrie No, it's for everyone. The story itself even tackled mentality issues that people of all ages can relate to. And the message is positive and well explained
I also think they are doing a pretty good job maintaining a balance of tone. Be dark and sincere enough to be taken seriously but also have it be jokey and fun enough to not be annoyingly edgy.
@@mr.mooseman8558 Emperor Nefarious is the closest we’re gonna get so far. But one that is, and also the best in my eyes is Scarecrow in Arkham Knight.
yeah but the 2016 game sold incredibly well And this actually follows the timeline of the reboot as seen in the parade with the hologram of ratchet bent down to shake clank’s hand
@@Yundemz Yeah, it seems like they really went with the rebooted timeline for some reason, likely because they wanted to cater to new players/fans of the series. Which is weird, because the devs confirmed that the 2016 game isnt canon (because it would pretty much invalidate all the story of the PS2 titles) and that Rift Apart is the sequel to Into the Nexus. EDIT: It seems that the consense is that the 2016 game ist viewed as Qwark retelling his version of the origin story.
@@xXYannuschXx OOOH Ok I see now As a new fan of the franchise I actually got into R&C because of the reboot and I personally enjoyed it But yeah I think it was a pretty odd choice to not acknowledge the original iteration at all
1:38:45 This moment in a nutshell Emperor Nefarious: Doctor, Help me Doctor Nefarious: Long live the emperor Drops Emperor Nefarious in rift Emperor Nefarious: AAAAAAH!
Kaden died to keep the Dimensionator from falling into the hands of Percival Tachyon leaving Ratchet and orphan and his name unknown until he finds all of his and bring them back home permanently. Which will be lead to the next game.
Damn, I was really hoping to see the lobax dimension since that’s the plot of like every game and this is the closest we’ve ever gotten. It’s also annoying clank never got fixed in my opinion. Now he’s missing an arm and can’t walk
Watch the credits drawings, rivet fix his arm with a yellow one, and our Nefarious is still alive he went to visit Lawrence and his wife with their new children
@@morgancongedo4107 the yellow arm looks cool but I’m gonna miss the entirely chrome clank, unfortunately in the next game (in another 5) his arm will still be that matte yellow
@@Crouching_Oni y'know what's also disappointing is that's the arm ratchet fixed at the end of ratchet 1 that powerful scene about that damn arm and that's gone now and it doesn't fit him at all
@@kimmikat4205 yeah that sort of takes away from ratchets initial meeting with clank, don’t get me wrong this game looks great but I think the series hasn’t been hitting the same since a crack in time. Maybe that’s just bias since I love that game from the weapons to the movement, play style, and art style, and especially the story. I hope once I get my hands on the game and a PS5 it will exceed my expectations.
Maybe he will get fixed along the way, his character is kind and selfless and would accept what happens to him at leaset till they save the universe-es
30:40 I'm really happy they added that. The scene would have still functioned perfectly fine without it but it does show that Ratchet does not consider Clank just a useful tool. He truly does value him as an individual.
@@DanBonRP And this one in my humble opinion and perspective, this game, in terms of animation, storytelling, and voice acting, is WAY BETTER than ANY Pixar film ever made!
Ratchet and Clank was my first video game when I was six, and I’ve loved every game since. I love that it’s still going strong and I can keep playing my favorite series.
A third (Which is more of a wish) Is that I wanted more of this game lol Just, more worlds or characters, or even a DLC But that’s just a wish, it’s just been so long since I’ve seen anything RaC and I love it
I was really hoping to see Ratchet actually dive into the water as proof that he still knows how to swim. The fact that he was attempting to dive in the water before he and Clank were pushed away by the explosion basically shows that Ratchet still knows how to swim.
Emperor Nefarious is way more evil even than Dr Nefarious he even talked about destroying every dimension deliberately at the end of the game. Also he has little to none of the regular comedic moments that Dr Nefarious usually has and is much more stern and serious. He seems to be much more ruthless and sadistic. At least Dr Nefarious showed some good traits in All 4 One and seems to care for Lawrence at times, Emperor Nefarious shows absolutely none of these good qualities. I know Dr Nefarious nearly Destroyed the universe in A Crack in Time with the Great Clock, but that was more out of reckless arrogance to take control of the universe, he wants to rule the universe not destroy it. Like I said before Emperor Nefarious clearly stated that he wanted to reduce every dimension to an empty void of nothingness at the final boss and that even worse, because that's all existence and all life would be exterminated and he was going to do it on purpose.
I’m pretty sure next to no one new The Great Clock wasn’t a time machine next to Clank, later Ratchet, and Alister at the very end. Nefarious most definitely wouldn’t have conintued if he knew the universe could be destroyed.
Yeah you can defiantly see the differences in there personalities in other ways sure the Emperor version is more confident but his lack of mistakes and learning from them rendered him a short tempered manchild whilst Nefarious despite still being a bit arrogant is much more calm mature and is aware of where and how is plans fell apart infact his failures made him a better person in a sense.
Can we all just take a moment to appriciate that the developers of this amazing series provided us a entire one hour and 41 mins of solid cut scene animations with STUNNING DETAIL?! I have been with R&C since PS1 and this is awesome!
I love the fact that they maintained certain mid 2000's videogame art style vibe. I mean, regarding the overall character design and aesthetics. Don't know how to explain it, but it looks gorgeous.
Honestly the ending makes me think there's gonna be a second parter where either they hook up or have dated over longer than long distance, bet Rule34 users had a field day when Rivet got released.
Hey, at least the animations on this game are lively smooth. Unlike the so call “remake” where the characters were just standing still doing weird eye contact...
If I had to pick a game out of best art style direction I would pick deathloop over this. Sure, rift apart looks great but deathloop so far looks much more impressive. It’s the shadows and particle effects that seem somewhat lackluster in rift apart, everything else is great.
I swear Rivet is more like Clank counter part but she is lombax and Kit is the counter robot version of Ratchet. The color scheme and their personality with experience. You think about the Lombax in her galaxy is has no lomax, but records of the messages left behind. So this is proof that they exist somewhere another world. I hope we have all four of them in the next game going to find the lombaxes. A villain who isn't Dr. Nefarious.
Been watching a playthrough of 2016 and I think Rift Apart's comedy is a much needed improvement. Not even 20 minutes in and there's some pretty good jokes.
It feels like a real movie made by competent people. It isn't a masterpiece but it's not cringe and it's what I've wanted Ratchet and Clank to be for years
I know some people have dark senses of humor to varying degrees, but in this case and context, it’s one of the Emperor’s Character Establishing Moments. He is everything that Doctor Nefarious WANTS to be, but is stripped of all comedic elements and likable traits.
@@TPDManiacXC626 Don't forget work ethic. Dr. Nefarious' final words to his emperor counterpart actually has a good point; what exactly does Emperor Nefarious know about winning when he's never lost? Emperor Nefarious can't be satisfied with winning even when he completely dominated his dimension because winning all the time has made him void of contentment and appreciation for what he has, which is why he ends up losing everything because he couldn't be content with one entire dimension to rule like Dr. Nefarious was when filling in.
I have a very big theory....Ratchet and Rivet are NOT dimensional counterparts. They are from the same single species, without any dimension. Im going to give 4 reasons. 1) The Lombax's are not a dimensional species. As we have been shown and told in the lore of the Lombax's they were one of the smartest species EVER in the galaxy their smartest minds created the dimensionator alone. If the lombax's had counterparts in every dimension, than theoretically shouldn't almost every dimension have a dimensionator in it? at least at some point in time? If this were the case then as soon as Ratchet and Rivet leave to go to another dimension they should find another lombax with little to no trouble at all which doesnt make sense in the long run. Furthering the idea the Lombax's are a one of a kind species they CANT be found in other dimensions. 2) The Counterparts of Clank and Qwark make sense because they ARE dimensional and came from their dimensions. Clank was created by Drek and Nefarious to be a war bot and he ultimately defected. Its been established where Clank had come from and who his parents were. Just like Clank, Kit is the same way. She was created by Emperor Nefarious to be a War bot and defected. While she "supposedly" doesnt have parents. its clear where she is form, there is no mystery with either her or Clank. The same goes for Quantum and Qwark, we know where they came from so they have no mystery in their backstories. Ratchet and Rivet do not have that luxury. They dont know much about their past and they hope to find other Lombax's through the dimentionator, that is their ONLY lead. What happened to Ratchet with him being left on Veldin by his Father is most likely what happened to Rivet in some same way, EXCEPT that Ratchets Father Kaden used the Dimensionator to send Ratchet away to another dimension to the Solona Galaxy to protect him just before he was killed. Rivet most likely got sent to Sargasso as a baby by the same means....BY SOMEONE ELSE. 3) The Lombax's went to their OWN dimension After the war with Tachyon. After Tachyon had pushed the Lombax's back to Fastoon, they had made arrangements to flee to another dimension. Most of the lombax's had fled to another dimension. Azimuth was exiled and because he most likely didnt know about the Lombax plans to leave Fastoon, he went after the Great Clock to correct his mistake. this makes sense as to why the Lombax's are a single species, they created the dimensionator and it was GROUNDBREAKING technology, if they had to any other dimension, they would never see another Lombax because they are the only species in the know universe to have create a dimensionator, hence never seeing another counterpart Lombax 4) Most of the Lombax's are in 1 dimension only. the same dimension that Ratchet refused to go to during the events of "Into the Nexus" wherever the Lombax's are they are clearly residing in that dimension alone and nowhere else. And that dimension is most likely where Rivet's parents or relatives are, and Ratchets relatives are...any other Lombax's like Angela Cross is most likely just on their own and doing their own thing, but are ultimately from the same species of Lombax's as well. Ratchet and Rivet are from a single species, without dimensional counterparts....They are NOT the same.
I’ve never seen or played any Rachet and Clank game or movie. I want to know more, but I’m in way way way way too many fandoms already. I’m glad I watched this though, it was stunning.
This game pays homage to a lot of character moments, small and large. Definitely worth watching through the series if you don't intend to play. :) There are a handful of spinoffs and skipable entries that arent necessary imo. I recommend R&C 1-3 on PS2, Tools and CiT on PS3, and Rift Apart at minimum to understand the whole story. Others will refer Into the Nexus, but it is not my cup of tea. The context will still carry weight without it.
Normally they make these gender different characters the main focus and take away what people love, but they did this in such a perfect way making me like the two new characters and still loving good ol Ratchet and Clank. This is how it's done folks.
Yeah. This is how you introduce a new female protagonist with real character development and good personality. Not just some straigh up feminist bullshit that the other game shoved down on our throat by making a new female character beat the shit out the main protagonist we love with a golf club.
Ratchet has grown a lot as a character. I like the new characters too. The character modeling and animation is the best yet, and it's not just because of the beautiful shading and composition. I do miss some edgy dialogue but this has a very light and feel-good vibe, edgy might not fit. At least there was still some funny double entendres like that Captain Quantum line LOL. They might have to introduce another wacky character that brings that out in Ratchet ;)
I would be more than happy if Rivet and Kit got their own game, as like a new trilogy or something. I hope rivet and kit will also be in future games and not just in this one.
Not the first time though, he played The Zoni from R&C: Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty, and A Crack in Time, he was Pollyx in R&C: A Crack in Time and Into the Nexus, Tharpod from All 4 One, and finally Stuart Zurgo from Full Frontal Assault.
@@Akiwrenz as a kid i didnt really see much appeal toward clank, i never played any games that featured clank spinoffs and i really got tired of the clank puzzles in the original games that i pretty much even just googled them in order to skim through it faster I regret that decision
I absolutely love the ratchet and clank games, played them since the first installment in 2002 and cannot wait for future installments. Side note: what if Rivet is the daughter of Alister Azimuth from a crack in time? It kind of makes sense similar fur colour and pattern, both lived as loners and both have a distrusting demeanor?
If there is another game in the future, I hope that Ratchet and Clank invite Rivet and Kit to help find the other lombaxes, and that it’s not the last one in the series.
My anticipation: next game involves the quest for the other Lombaxes, and the one after that which may be the final game, Ratchet and Clank and company will have to stop a hostile race of inter dimensional monsters, far worse than the Cragmites and Nethers put together.
@@stalefjukstad9584 I believe that maybe, the sequel will be sort of a dimensional road trip to find the Lombax dimension, and the third game after that, when the dimension is found, some villainous abomination like Mr. Eye, but has legible speech and is an extremely dangerous threat will be out to obliterate all of existence or something like that.
@@TPDManiacXC626 for that last part, I’m thinking maybe Tachyon and Artemis Zogg team up and assemble a cragmites army, and the main point of the game is Lombaxes vs cragmites just like in the Great War.
@@FlyingV555 But I just thought of something that would be far worse than all the greatest R&C villains, an Anti-Ratchet. Clank had his evil counterpart Klunk, but Ratchet hasn’t had an evil counterpart to face as of yet. After all, sometimes the main character himself is his own worst enemy.
I feel like they didn't take the whole alternate versions of already existing characters concept far enough. I really wanted to see Ratchet meet the alternate version of his Mom, Dad and Azimuth.
i wonder if they would do a spin off series revolve around rivet and kit. The history of there universe seems rather intersting along with their background.
Damn, ratchet and clank has come a long way. I remember playing Rachel and clank 3 on ps2 back in the day. The graphics has really become realistic nowadays.

With all this resistance vs evil robotic scientist stuff, I can’t help but feel that the writers of this game we’re doing what Sonic Forces tried to do and use the Sonic Archie/Satam formula. Except it’s used better here then the other game
I got Sonic Rush vibes instead. I mean, the two heroes of the main universe go into an alternate version of their universe and meet that universe's equivalent of them which happen to be female and end up helping them beat the alternate version of their big bad
What about in the distant future of the RWBY series where Salem becomes Empress of Remnant and transfused the blood of Grimm into huntsmen and Huntresses to become Grimm-hybrids for an army? That would've been a nice episode when the future generations r forced to fight against Salem to travel back in time.
That’s why Kit is sad. She was on Savali and insisted that she be alone so she won’t hurt anyone. By yelling at Rivet, not only does it hurt Rivet, but also Kit. She has an inferiority complex as well since she views herself as not a good partner / teammate.
@@theomnigamer9177 Gary took in Kit because he saw what she was going through and he saw potential in her. Potential for change, to be good, and for greatness overall.
I like how they're pushing the concept of "trying." I feel like too many people today don't try, they just kind of give up or expect something to happen.

Paternity Leave. Plus Dr.Nefarious almost won multiple times in this game and and o the we game he appeared in that makes him a multiverse threat. What’s important to note is that Emperor Nefarious isn’t defeated by Ratchet and Clank and Rivet And Kit but by his own. Emperor Nefarious caused his own downfall due to his arrogance and mistreatment of his prime counterpart that the Doctor doesn’t have to run from his destiny anymore.

Came back to watch the cutscenes and yea 3 years later and their still the best part about this game in my humble opinion, I can't recall us ever getting a game that has cutacenes this good, that aren't an actual movie, and or/a game that mainly focuses on the cutscenes primarily
This game had a lot of heart and was really good as ratchet and clank games go one thing I would recommend them toning down a bit is the characters talking during gameplay cause like the 2016 remake they don't know when to shut up
A really amazing thing they can do with the series is a open world style rpg game where Ratchet and Clank have found others just like Rivet and Kit but a new villain has emerged someone that has been killing or enslaving their race and you must stop them and save planets and other dimensions along the way Let us create and customize our own Lombaxes and Robot buddies and of course of signature melee weapon! also 3-4 player co op would be amazing and fun getting to see how your friends world is compared to yours depending on how they tackle the story and also see how they designed their characters would be fun and all the mayhem would be amazing to see.
open sounds nice but there needs to be platforming and that is rare in RA, platforming was a nice change of pace of the combat but in RA it was mostly shooting and combat over and over and over again and it gets kinda boring
@@misstigalilli1 open world but still keep the platforming and everything maybe have other players working on other sides of the same map to turn on a lever and all that stuff

Just learned that Jim ward didn't voice Captain quark in this game because of COVID and Alzheimer’s and was replaced with Scott whyte and to be honest I like Jim ward better and I hope he gets better soon he's one of my favorites
If you look for the flaws in everything you will find them. That said, this game looks fantastic, I would love to play it, and it still feels like ratchet and clank it feels like my childhood. The same vibes I've had since going commando is still there, just update new and pretty, if anything it's more emotionally driven. And the gameplay looks wild. Can't wait to cop. Insomniac did it right, now only if square enix will get it right with kingdom hearts.
Funny story: I played A Crack in Time on the hardest difficulty without changing my armor and I beat Azimuth with 1 point of health left. That fight was tougher than I thought it was gonna be.
