As a solo gay World traveler, I feel it is about time for me to finally share my experiences as a solo traveling gay man. The city of Manila recently unveiled a gay pride flag at the crosswalk down near the Manila Bay walk. Follow me and learn about this new pride flag and the existing gay rights in the Philippines!
Welcome to my channel! I'm Patrick and this is Patmax Adventures! I'm originally from California and have been living abroad for the past four years. I decided to start this channel to share my experiences and passion for travel with others. My goal with this channel is to share and show as much as I can of the World. My focus will always be on the culture, food and of course the local people of everywhere I travel to! I'm an optimist and always try to highlight the positives of a place rather than just the negatives.Though I will also be bluntly honest at times too! If you love travel and exploring far away places, then you found the right place!
Join me in living every moment to the Max!! ^^

When I was studying in the Philippines every class always have gay people and oh my gosh they are sooo fun to be with their humor and all. A lot people likes to invite them in groups because they bring the fun. The government though and probably majority of the filipinos don’t accept gay marriage. They are incredibly religious. I remember a schoolmate, the smartest in our school. He’s gay and everyone knows but his father. Or so I heard. He acts gay in school and in class and all of the teachers know but when his father is present he acts manly and changes his voice to normal. His father works in our school and has a high position, but I was wondering if his father already knows he’s gay but doesn’t accept it so he holds himself back when his father is present

Not all of us are accepting but more like tolerant. I like their humor but the jokes are usually insensitive and sometimes it can be too far and people that are very sensitive may have a bad impression of them. Can't blame them because humor is subjective. Ik there are better artists and good examples, but Vice Ganda, I think one of the famous, if not the most famous gay celebrity, sometimes ain't really a good influence, and helped popularize anti-intellectualism. I dunno about everyone else's opinion but I personally really don't like him.

A lot of filipinos tolerate lgbt but not really "accept" them. If you know these people personally, you'd know that theyre homophobic. Im not saying all of them but a lot of them are, which it's not that surprising coz the majority is christian. My point here is there are still people in our country who is mean or disrespecful to the lgbtqs. I have this person who insulted me, called me gay and stuffs then a couple of days have passed he posted on facebook that "Let's respect all sexuality and gender equally." Hah, in the Philippines it's not about telerating, the simple phrase is, "Filipinos don't care", meaning; don't care if your lgbtq, don't care about age gaps, etc as long as it's legal and you're happy and they're happy, that does not bother us. The laws are sometimes, "just for show" but what matters is the culture. Some people may be more vocaly against things, but their just uninformed or misinformed.

Thanks for sharing. When I first traveled to the Philippines in 2007, I actually got the impression that the Philippines were more gay-friendly than I was used to, and I'm from New England! Even many elderly people appeared genuinely accepting, whereas many elderly people I knew in the U.S. were merely tolerating. That said, in times since, I've seen that there really are some people in the Philippines who are not OK with LGBT people, sometimes with very sad consequences. From what I have gathered, a lot of Filipinos are Christian, but do not go to church and reject many rigid rules. It seems often to be those who embrace religion more formally who are the least accepting. As to the marriage issue, I've noticed that even opposite-sex Filipino couples often cohabitate and then refer to themselves as being married despite not being formally married. I think many Filipino same-sex couples, therefore, just like many opposite-sex couples, may simply not feel all that motivated formally to get married, and this could be part of why we have not seen more progress towards explicit same-sex marriage in the Philippines.

Genre equally in the Philippines had been practices long before it was being colonized. I read philippines history that there was a tribe whos leader was a female.
@DensDaPens
@DensDaPens 3 года назад
During Philippine's pre-colonial times, it wasnt uncommon for the spiritual leader of a community to be a female. So female historically has been held in equal if not higher regard in society. Then the Spanish came along and demonized those female spiritual leaders to gain dominant control in society

We love yah Patrick! Yes Philippines is really welcoming to LGBT community. If you watch most of our shows in the Philippines, most of them has a gay friend/family member/ neighbor. Name it. We have gay celebrities that people look up to and very successful. I have a bunch of gay friends and relatives. They are so much fun to be with. Heck in my opinion a lot of gay are so smart and talented individuals. No matter what we are all equal. We are all God’s children. Proud of you. I learned something in this vlog. Thank you for sticking around. Cheers!

I'm not sure but I don't think that hospitals in the Philippines are very strict that only family can be in the hospital. Specially if the partner will be paying for the bill. Though not legal, we do recognize that our gay friends have partners and do live together. There would probably be problems if a family member denies the partner, otherwise he'll be allowed the visits and blood if needed.

Thank you so much for making this video! I'm in the U.S. but have visited family there. I was curious to find out how accepting it is in the Philippines. I've seen commercials and watched some TV with gay characters but that only gives you a small idea of what it's really like. I think some of my family are very Catholic and conservative. It's wonderful to see that flag painted in Manilla! Progress is great! I'm hoping to take my Trans nephew to the Philippines and hope he has a wonderful experience there. Again thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!!!

Hi Patrick, it's so good to hear your views on this subject, spoken with clarity and passion. Included in your helpful list is "Equal Age of Consent" at 6:54, but you don't actually say what that age is! I know you made this video in 2020, but I have checked the latest information online in July 2022 for the answer to this question. In March 2022 a law was passed in the Philippines, raising the *Age* *of* *Sexual* *Consent* to 16 years. The legal marrying age for Filipino citizens is 18 years, but must have parents' *consent*. For those between 21 and 25 years of age, parental *advice* must be secured. The *Age* *of* *Majority* in the Philippines commences at the age of 18 years. (Persons of 18 to 21 years still need parental consent for marriage). I hope this clarifies the situation a little bit, but those in doubt should always, of course, check carefully with the relevant laws.

I was a South African teaching English in S.Korea from 2004 to 2011. At the time as a gay man things were a bit iffy in Seoul. But I headed to Philippines regularly to revel in the gay friendly atmosphere. I found a partner and his family were very accepting of our relationship. Presently things have improved in S.Korea but one still has to be circumspect

I think Mandaue City was the first city in the Philippines to declare a gay-friendly city as it passed and enacted a local city ordinance for anti-gay crimes. To manifest its seriousness in the law, the city mayor had one of its major street intersections painted a rainbow 'zebra' crossing in January of 2015, almost 6 years ago already. The city passed a city ordinance penalizing anyone hurling anti-gay insults, be it verbal or written even in social media, against anyone identified as gay.

As a predominantly Christian country, Filipinos would always accept people no matter what their sexual preferences are, nevertheless, marrying or having someone as a partner with the same gender is not acceptable to the Almighty, much more if one undergoes sexual change. I hope that people be happy of how God made them and not do something that is contrary to His laws and teachings. Man was made for woman and vice-versa. Time is running, let us act in accordance with God's will.

When I came out to my Family they didnt actually accepted me fully as I thought they werent up for the idea that i could have a boyyfriend and start a family one day. My mom tell me if I'm not going to marry then I should just take care of them when their old. That kinda break me in a point and somehow put some strain on my relationship towards my family cause they are very religious. This also strain my beliefs on our religion aswell. But it did took some time and they actually start to accept me little by little. Now I have a boyfriend he's like a part of our family now. He and my mom gets along well and I learn to love our religion back without the context of condemning but just the context of universal love. I hope people find it this way that everything should just coexist with loving each other cause everyone is made by God with unconditional love.
