Is the PlayStation Portal Worth It? Why You Might Be Wrong About This One?

The PlayStation Portal managed to really surprise me. It's far from being a perfect device but I find myself using it a lot more than I expected.
But as much as I enjoy it, it's still pretty hard to recommend it to the general public. However, there is a market for it, for sure and people shouldn't be upset this exists.

Why is everyone complaining $200 for it.. People are paying $200 for a crappy semi pro edge controller. This is meant for streaming only and probably best for streaming in your home when someone else is using the TV that is what this is for. It’s classified as an accessory to your PS5.

This exactly. People don’t really get that this is actually what a lot of people wanted. It’s not a Vita 2 but it’s not meant to be one

This is the best dad gamer accessory.. If wife is watching a series when the baby is sleeping, or if i need to keep an eye on the baby while sleeping in the room on the other side of the ps5..

The dual sense edge isn’t crappy it’s actually a very good controller, but it definitely should be around 150, I’m not sure why its 200.

I love my PS Portal. Wired it in U.K. - full blown out PS5 experience when laying in bed in another room - remote playing in Poland when visiting my mom - remote playing in France when visiting my gf. No issues whatsoever

Bro, I love the portal. If you have good internet, set your Playstation settings geared towards the portable, plug the landline into your Playstation console, and it will work really well. But remember to change the connection to landline in the network settings of the ps5, because if you don't, it will stick with the wifi settings. Unplug the HDMI plug. Because without these settings, your portal will be trash.

Definitely plug in an ethernet cable. Huge difference. As for the HDMI, haven’t tried it yet. I’ll make sure to check it out👍

Is the tv gonna turn on every time you use your portal as remote play? I tried remote play on my mobile phone and everytime I turn on remote play it turns on my monitor as well.

I mentioned this in the video already but it does not turn the TV on at all. It seems it recognises this somehow and I can confirm that using my phone for remote play does turn on the TV

You have to turn off HDMI Link from PS5 Settings

@@brahutz You don’t have to. If I have the PS5 in sleep and turn it on through the Portal, the TV will stay off. If I do this with remote play on a phone, then the TV will turn on as well

I had to turn off the monitor from my ps5 when i put it on rest mode so it won't turn on with the portal. I tried turning off hdmi link as well.

@@johnco8548 That’s strange. For me remote play never turns on the TV, but the PS5 does. Maybe it’s an LG thing then

I like it, I just wish Sony added small features like a web browser for gaming while travelling, or stream apps that are already on your PS5??, and Bluetooth so you don’t have to buy Sony’s $200 earbuds ($400 total). I think if Sony added these small features there would be way less hate for this product.

This device is not for everyone ,I don’t think Sony plans to make a mint of money on it, however it is viable if you have a ps5 in a family area where others use the tv.

Not completely lag free, as I’ve shown in the video. I even added a slow motion footage to get an idea. Bur for most games I find it to be good enough. But if you need really quick reactions or time based, like in Patapon, then I can’t really recommend it

Got it this morning. Awful! Keeps losing connection. Laggy as hell! And my internet is way way above the recommended.

First time I connected it was awful for me as well. But then it got pretty solid. And make sure you have your PS5 wired. Even though I have a good wifi, it’s still very laggy for some reason. Once I plugged in a cable, very big difference

@@TheTechUnravel I brought my ps5 downstairs. So my router is literally to the left of me and the ps5 is to the right. Perfect! Runs near flawless. But now I have an issue with the inputs. Playing the tekken 8 demo. Running great! But unresponsive buttons. And even on gt 7. It’s accelerating without me even holding R2! And turning. What the hell is happening.

@@richwatson1985 Trust me, if you can plug in an ethernet cable, the experience will be even better. But that input bug is strange, indeed. Have you quickly switched to the dualsense and see if the issue remains? Curious if this is a remote play issue or not

@@TheTechUnravel I will definitely try and connect it via Ethernet. But the input issue doesn’t seem to be to do with the stream itself. It’s like it’s the device itself. It runs great!
