@@screwsinabell Exactly, it indicates a certain degree of cynicism, but I don’t think anyone could expect anything else at this point, all politics is is a collision between various interest groups, those interest groups with the most money and organization come out on top, the only difference is that in democracy as opposed to outright oligarchy there are rules about how you can treat the losers. It’s actually for this reason that I think the Republican party is in a much stronger place than what it initially seems to be in, they have a much smaller number of interest groups that need to share power within the party than the Democrats do, the interests of rural white Americans, and small business owners are not diametrically opposed either, the interest of rich white hipsters, and working class Black people on the other hand might be. Of course there’s the Overton window to consider, but I feel it has stopped moving to the left at this point on the whole, and is now pulling in both directions simultaneously depending on who you are, which is somehow even more concerning.

The only two I can think of off the top of my head (Republican-mayor cities) are Tulsa and Fort Worth- and they ALSO had an increase in violence and riots last summer. In short: it's a strange argument I don't think can be narrowed down to Democratic vs Republican.

I agree 100% with ranked-choice voting (or, the *Borda count* as mathematicians properly call it). But getting rid of the Electoral College would be utterly idiotic. The solution, rather, is to have all 50 states do what Maine and Nebraska *already* do. Namely, 2 electoral votes to whoever wins that state's popular vote, and 1 each to the winner of each House district. That way, instead of 9 or 10 "swing states" (out of 50), there would be 113 or 114 "swing Electoral votes" (out of 538), thus geographically *spreading out the voting power* .

Yeah, to the far right "woke" is just a buzzword/dogwhistle. To the regular right "woke" is like, just acknowledging that there are social issues/inequality that needs to be dealt with (like in the matrix, where the characters woke up and realized the real world exists; at least, that's how I see it). (The US doesn't actually have a 'left' political party, so...)

This is where I gotta hand it to the modern conservative party. I've said before, they are nothing but a giant global marketing firm, and they do an incredible job. They have taken the notion of being NOT racist and sexist (which, essentially that's what this made up thing of 'wokeness' would even be), and they've made it be way more embarrassing and shameful to be regarded as not being racist than it is to actually be racist.

You'd have to change the voting system to do that. Y'know, change it, using the current voting system.

As a Canadian, it doesn't help much in the modern era of politics. The NDP are the left wing party, we generate more votes nationally than any other party. Yet the Liberals and Conservative parties have dominated elections for decades. Both are right wing, Trudeau and the Liberals are perfect comparisons to Biden and Manchin. They sell the conservative policy through inaction or lame duck efforts on social policy, using the other party as a scapegoat. They geerrymandered the system perfectly so no matter who is in power, we keep moving right and more in bed with American corporations.

Its called Duvergers law and theoretically the two parties are made of individuals who can be primaried. Thats why you can have Sanders and Manchin both be democrats when NC is a red state. The people vote based on the senator and not entirely along party lines.

If we could somehow prevent retirement-age people from running for office, I think that would solve more than a few of our problems. I know it’s agist, but I don’t care. They’re too old to actually be invested in our future, long-term. Even the best of them should be in advisory roles, not leading debate and directly controlling the direction of our societies.
