The Catholic Church does not state nor believe that she is a goddess. In order for your presumption to be true you will have to show, from an official Catholic source, that she is a goddess.

@@woobiefuntime There are some Catholics who have a true faith in God but sadly most people who say they follow God are not even saved. Cultural Christians and Catholics fill up most churches. They do not read the Bible for themselves and just listen to whatever their pastor, reverend, priest, bishop, etc says. They only go to church because mom and dad go. Some leaders don't even preach God's word at all. Not everyone who says Lord is of our Lord.

That is very obvious in my country, the only “Catholic” nation in Asia. They put the statues on their arms and crowds would really attend the procession (especially of the Black Nazarene). One city would celebrate the feast of the Sto, Nino in which they let the statues of the “infant Jesus” dance and wear different costumes. Each colour has meaning like red for luck (like a lucky charm). They would offer food in the altar to those statues when someone dies. They would go to a church and wipe the statues praying for a miracle and for healing. One Catholic charismatic would shower the crowd with handkerchiefs with Jesus (El Shaddai) image on it believing it can make miracles. Scapulars are sold in front of churches and those are believed to drive away demons. Even the medal of St. Benedict was believed to be for exorcism. Palms from Palm Sunday Mass were put in front of houses to drive out bad spirits. These and many more. And it has been part of the culture. Sadly, they would say “you wouldn’t lose anything if you try those practices”. Mind you, they are losing faith in the real Jesus if they do such things

I went to a church with my parents which was more like a social club, even sang in the junior and senior choirs. Went to Sunday school, and there learned that Jesus loved me, but didn't know who Jesus was. Sang Handel's Messiah, but the words went right over my head. It wasn't until I asked God 3 questions with the threat that if He didn't answer I would stop going to church altogether as I saw it a waste of time if He didn't even exist. All of a sudden a flash of light, and all three questions were answered. I started reading the Bible, went to a Christian theological college, and met my godly Christian wife. I went to Christian College a lost sinner (surprised they enrolled me), and came out a born again believer.

Also, I would like you to find where exactly the commandments are numbered out for us in scripture. If you turn to Exodus or Deuteronomy, they are not. They still mention hell though. But purgatory gives them false hope that their relatives and the saints can still pray for them even after their death. I once asked my mom why do we always need to pray for our relatives who were dead almost hundreds of years ago (our ancestors). Until now I hear “May they rest in peace” prayers. But now I am born again, I came to know that only Jesus can give that peace that the world cannot give. And they keep on praying for that peace for the deceased loved ones because they still believe they are in purgatory. Sadly, they do not put their hope in Jesus.

It’s always very risky to get your theology from a secular dictionary. In theology, words matter because they have a precise theological meaning. In everyday life we may use those terms interchangeably and that’s totally fine but that doesn’t mean they mean the same thing in theology. This principle works in every special field of studies. Take for example physics: speed and velocity are not the same physical concept. However, if you take a simple dictionary it will probably tell you that those words are synonyms and mean the same thing. But I don’t think you are going to argue with your physics professor that in fact physicists are wrong to distinguish between speed and velocity because the dictionary says there’s no difference..

Yes, but sadly, they do not acknowledge the 2nd commandment. I grew up in a Catholic School, The first commandment would be “thou shall not have other gods beside me”. And the second would be “thou shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain”. Followed by the third commandment. They do not teach about the statues because they know their blind followers will be confused.

As an Orthodox Christian, maybe I can answer your question. We call Mary the Theotokos which means "god-bearer". This word was used by the early church fathers to clear up any misunderstandings caused by heresies going around at the time. Many early Christians were arguing about whether Jesus was fully divine, fully human, or a mix of the two. The Church declared that Jesus is both fully divine and fully human. And since Mary gave birth to him, she is deserving of the title Theotokos (god-bearer) since Jesus is God. I think that the Catholic term "mother of God" is the same. It is not that Catholics think she was around during the time of creation or that she participated in creation at all, it is really a way to affirm that Jesus is God.
