This documentary-style film examines the inner workings of the World Mission Society Church of God (often referred to as the Mother God Cult) and seeks to shed light on the emotional, spiritual, and psychological harm that often befalls the members who devote their lives to it. The WMSCOG (not to be confused with Love Has Won - The Cult Of Mother God led by Amy Carlson) is known for believing their deceased leader Ahnsahnghong was second coming Christ, as well as their belief in the existence of a "God the Mother," whom they believe to be a woman named Zhang Gil Jah, who is still alive in South Korea today. Featuring interviews with WMSCOG former members, deacons and leaders, this film also emphasizes the work being done by Great Light Studios over the past 6 years to provide a safe space for members to share about their experiences as well as creating resources to help point them toward healing and freedom.

ABOUT THE WMSCOG
The World Mission Society Church Of God is a South Korean religious organization whose behaviors and coercive methods fit the BITE model developed by cult expert Steve Hassan, which describes cults’ specific methods to recruit and maintain control over people. The WMSCOG has a reported 7,500 churches, 3.3 million members, and a presence in 175 countries and every year thousands of people are recruited into this group with promises of heaven and threats of doomsday.
The WMSCOG is known for their belief that their deceased leader Ahnsahnghong was second coming Christ as well as their belief in the existence of a "God the Mother," a second, female deity whom they believe to be a woman named Zhang Gil Jah, who is still alive in South Korea today.
Many former WMSCOG members have spoken out about the emotional and spiritual harm they endured during their years in the organization and have alleged that the WMSCOG demanded excessive amounts of their time and money, used fear and manipulation to keep them from researching on the internet, caused significant division and devastation to their relationships with family and friends, subjected many of them to harmful and sometimes abusive, arranged marriages, controlled and fabricated information to fit their personal agenda and control members, and consistently used threats of hell and doomsday to keep them devoted to the organization's cause.
The WMSCOG is a litigious organization and has filed multi-million dollar lawsuits against some former members like Michele Colón, who went online to speak about her negative experiences.
The goal of Great Light Studios and @answeringthewmscog is to provide help and resources to those who have been harmed by this group, and to point them toward freedom and healing.

It happened to me last Friday. A guy approached me. He spoke about the Second Coming and Last Judgement not being the same thing. So I entertained him a while. We exchanged numbers and I went to one of their "Bible" studies today. Their theology made somewhat sense about the Sabbath and Passover, until they spoke about this "Christ" from South Korea and that he is the Second Coming Christ. I never ran so fast from that meeting.

@@michellebrits2617that same thing happened to me as well. They taught me about Passover and sabbath day they also gave me proof of it. But when I asked them about the Korean Jesus they just told me you have keep on coming to the meeting to more about him and they also told me not to search him up on Google which kinda gave me some shady feelings to it.

I myself is a member for about 12 years, Wmscog never forced members to do the Gospel, never ask for money, never ask for abortions ITS A BIG LIE. Numerous Gospel Workers have kids and families and a very cordial social relationship. On the Contrary Wmscog preach to love your Family, Neigbours and Even not to judge the people.

Non of what is said here is true, the gospel in zion is not forced therefore i would respect if you say you dont want to continue. I went through the same phase 5 years ago but decided to go through the teachings and let the holy spirit guide me. If there is anything with in your soul that is curious, questions that you need to be answered pleace reach out. Church of God had silenced all the noise i had in my head about faith and the bible. They came up to me and my husband, we decided to go into Bible study. Once they mentioned that Christ came a second time already in 1948 and he was born in South Korea which was the new name of the Holy Spirit. The person didn’t wanna tell us the name so we did some research about the church and we ended up finding all these videos & ended up finding out that they believe in mother god? & also that Christ was ansonghong? They kept saying we weren’t ready for worship and that at the end we were gonna have to make a choice , we didn’t get why but We stopped going to the church once we found out the truth. I hope they all find the right way.

I was devastated when they said Jesus came already. I was crying so hard because I thought we were doomed. Then I heard them saying that name after their prayer, and they wouldn't tell me what it was, so I did my research. This is crazy and scary because the devil is busy scamming us hard

A woman approached me at Walmart about a christian women’s bible study, she would not tell me the name of the church just that it was of Christian faith. I ended up not going because I found that sketchy. And then this past weekend she sent me a link to an online study so I googled the name of the organization and it was this one. As soon as I read what they believe I knew it wasn’t for me and then I decided to see if there was anything on RU-vid and I come across this. I’m so glad I did not attend the meeting.

Yo! Same thing happened to me and my husband on separate occasions in Walmart!!! The girls didn’t tell me the name of their church, but they were seriously high pressure about attending their “Bible” study. I felt like they must be getting paid to bring people in. 😅 The guy straight up told my husband the name of this organization. He even gave my husband a website to look at, and told enough that my husband was able to refute the teaching with scripture. He picked the wrong guy to attempt to persuade, because my husband went to Bible college and is an ordained minister.

Is judging others a great job? Is that courage? Everybody has his own free Will and the choose to stay or go. Than the question.. why did they step in? So if it does not fit with the current life why didnt they go earlier? And a story has 2 sides so if you want to know the truth you have to check both sides. I have never learned that I have to leave my family. I Just have to take care of them. That is what I have learned. Maybe the woman has relation problems. I dont know what is happening. I can live happy with my family and friends. ❤❤❤❤❤ And 2 be honest.. We see everything but even for the university I have learned that we cannot trust everything that is a fact everybody knows. The spiritual and mental abuse that the members suffer while being in this cult is unfathomable. As a former member, thank you for putting this together. The inner workings of the WMSCOG are finally being exposed and I am so happy so many people are getting out. We have a lot of healing and work ahead of us and I hope this documentary saves others from having to suffer the way we did.

@@Dmenjivar22It would be great to get more people to leave the WMSCOG. But going into a branch in order to do it would honestly be difficult. They keep a close eye on any new person that attends and everything you do and say will be reported back to the leaders. If they get a sense you’re there for the wrong reasons, they will ask you to leave and most likely contact other branches nearby about you. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth your time. But spreading awareness about this cult is definitely worth it. The fact that you were approached and you were able to find this documentary before they tried to indoctrinate you is exactly what we’re trying to accomplish.

I’ve mindlessly chanted amen throughout my whole life while attending wmscog because of the social pressures and manipulation of doctrine and self identity. However, for once I say a genuine amen to this video. This church uses members like tissues and spits them out as soon as they question the doctrine. They only focus on the numbers of baptisms and are willing to manipulate members into fearing hell in every way to evangelize. Thank you so much gls and former members for telling our stories and traumas. I continue to struggle with my family as my parents become disillusioned by their fake promises. My father is a missionary under daniel lee and has been estranged from my family and I for over a decade. These videos and coverage gives me hope 🙏

That’s YOUR voice and YOUR authentic self trying to reach you. You know things are wrong. You see the contradictions. You see the manipulation. Today i was introduced to the name of ahnsanghong. I was told it was the new name that God would give us to address him as. Through the name Ahnsanghong we are to pray to the Father. And that information alone threw me for a loop, my head started spinning and i felt such a disruption in my core. I couldnt deny that the things they were saying can be found in scrupture. But then they took that and gave me information that sounded so strange. I got in my car, raced home, and was asking God if what i learned was really true because i was so confused. Perhaps this was Him amswering that prayer. So thanks be to God for showing me your video because i see that i just dodged a serious bullet.

My sister is currently in this cult. She has multiple mental illnesses that require psychiatric care every few years. Since joining this group 2years ago she has been readmitted to psychiatric care and has been in there for 6 months (her longest). Members know about her illness and still said she needs to be baptised straight away (this is not consent). She bought a veil and some of the books. She currently chooses not to eat, and continues to give her disability pension to the church.

The last straw was when the unit leader kept asking me what my salary is to make sure I'm contributing 10% of my salary and kept insisting I should be contributing 10% of the amount BEFORE deductions

But you could at least request for counseling or transfer to another group or unit. Never give up your own salvation. Salvation does not depend on men, don't worry about how people view you.

I said LAST STRAW, meaning a minor annoyance but coming on top of a series of difficulties, that makes a situation unbearable. The demands of the WMSCOG start off small, "just keep the passover and you'll go to heaven!" and before you know it, it's "you can't go to heaven if you don't let us control every single aspect of your life" 🙄 Free gift of salvation? I think missionaries from this group knocked on my door. They were asking me if I believe in a mother G d. I pointed to my door, where my mezzuzah is, but they didnt know what it was. I explained that I am Jewish and only believe in one G d. They asked me who gave birth to G d, if not a mother. They were impossible to talk to and I am usually respectful, but I did shit the door in their face because they truly sounded insane to me. It breaks my heart that people are in a cult like this.

I was recruited by a lady while I was shopping in Walmart. We've been doing bible study over Zoom. It wasn't until I went to service this past Saturday that the word "CULT" yelled in my ear as I was looking at everyone. It was also my first time hearing that name. After service, I asked about the name, and I was told that I'd find out, but never did. This is actually how they lure people in (with the sabbath) and with other teachings about “the law” and things that seem true. It’s not until later that they introduce the crazy things like Korean gods. Only by that point, it’s usually too late. The indoctrination process has already been pretty much solidified.

Last time I checked Revelarion 19:10, faithful and true says to not worship him! I had a similar experience. They came up to me and invited me to a sabbath. Same like you, the vibe was off. A lady came up to me and asked me to go to 1 Corinthians 11:6 and read it. It was about wearing a head covering while worshipping. But the funny thing was, I already had a turban on my head haha. But whatever I put the veil on anyway. But it really got weird once they started praising Anh songhong and saying earthly mother. I wanted to scream and run out. In my head, I said when this is over, I’m never coming back again. Then at the end they all recited a prayer in a Korean, people of all ethnicities, so I tried to take a picture of the prayer and the girl who invited me immediately snatched it from my hand and said you can’t do that. It was just a dark and weird feeling all the way around. She tried texting me a few times but I told her sorry, I’m not and will not continue going as it didn’t resonate with me or God’s word.

I found peace in the Church of God. Thanks to Father and Mother. Everything im listening to here is far from what i learn and taught in the World Mission Society Church of God. My father studied the bible alot and i heard from him when i was young what we are practising now in our church at that time is a changed law and the only one can teach us the truth is the Second Coming Christ and he must appear again as a man so when the Church of God approached me and study the bible, 100% I believed this is the truth I was waiting for. The purpose of our faith is to go to heaven. Im sorry for your expectations. You listened to members instead of listening to God. The bible is talking about coming disasters so how can we be saved? Do yous believe the bible? Even i was taught about all of these disasters before the Church of God but no one teach any solution to be saved they just say believe in Jesus. Im sorry everyone I believe the World Mission Society has the perfect truth.

Hi all, I’ve associated with the WMSCOG for about 8 months and feel stuck because i was led into it by friends. I struggle tremendously with their teachings and feel as if I’ll be ridiculed by friends if I leave. When I give any pushback with not attending worship service, sabbath day service, study, etc. it is met with endless scriptures about people who are not of God cannot receive eternal life. Thank you for the videos affirming that am I not crazy for the suspicious feelings I’ve had recently.

I am currently sitting in a cafe waiting for my husband to get out of a wmscog meeting, trying to be supportive of him but I don’t know what it will take for him to see how evil this is. I try to be patient but sometimes I slip up about my frustrations with the effects of this organization on him and our marriage, been dealing with this for 11+ yrs… Jordan, I wish you could talk to him. I am not super well versed in scripture to go up against his endless excuses, when one thing is disproven he jumps to the next thing never getting clarity.

(It’s almost always ended in a fight) Anything that is hearsay he’s not willing to listen to… I think the only way to do it is to prove through scripture that the doctrine is false…. that is why it’s been difficult because I’m not well versed in scriptures and he is… so when I mention something from one of your videos that is based in scripture he has about 5 other things to come back with… presumably tactics taught at those “Bible studies”

I've interacted with a few of the Members myself here in Georgia. Im a Messianic Jew and ive had a few Bible studies with the lead members. They butcher the Tanakh and the Brit Hadasha. They also butcher the Holy Feast Days like Sukkot and Passover, etc. When I tried showing them the Hebrew and Greek, and explaining how to actually follow the Torah, and the Prerequisites to be the messiah (specifically the second coming) they cut me off.

@@asp9291 In my opinion the reason why they are able to trick people is because they do speak some truth. For instance, the Sabbath is an important thing that was left by the way side by the Church. Same with the Biblical Feasts. WMSCOG utilizes these truths then feeds you lies. Rat poison is mostly normal food. I'll reply more in a bit I'm at work.

@@asp9291 Even within Judaism today Messiah is supposed to show up Riding on a Donkey into Jerusalem (Zech 9:9) which Yeshua did. Messiah is also supposed to come on the clouds of heaven (Daniel 9:9). Yeshua will do this in his second coming (Revelation 1:7). It's NOT an idiom for reincarnation or coming back in the Flesh, nobody else in all of history ever interpreted the verse this way. The Messiah needs to be from Judah and Ephraim and Levi which Yeshua is. The Messiah needs to reestablish the temple. There really is quite a lot that Asonghong (however you spell it) did not do in his lifetime. The very fact he was Korean disqualified him

@@asp9291 We cannot celebrate Passover the way it was commanded in Torah, because there is no temple and there are no priesthood, and not everyone can go to Jerusalem. We honor the day with a Passover seder (meal with liturgy) and try to follow as close as we can. It's a day of Remembrance. We look forward to the Second Exodus.

I have these cousins who are 4 siblings. They’ve been in this cult for years now and for all these years they have been trying to drag the rest of my family into it. Their teachings are based from Jehovah witness... and they don't accept it. They say Ahnsahnghong is holy spirit and the bride is their so called God the mother, quote from revelation 22:17. Just be careful and be away from their sweet talks...all i can tell you is this, rest is in your hands how you deal with them.

I just joined this group about a month ago and I been through two “studies”. I joined this because I have a cousin who kept telling me I need to be saved correctly. Like the lady said in the video I don’t want to go to hell lol so let me learn the “truth” . A couple things stood out to me , that felt wrong. One is their leader is supposedly Christ in person once again . My first study was late at night and at the end he adamantly told me I should get baptized right then and there! The baptism was kinda strange too tbh. They sung this song while I was getting the water poured on me & it sounded like another language which threw me off lol the way everyone was dressed looked robotic . (Suit and tie) I been avoiding these studies lately because I felt in my spirit that I was following something sinister . This video helped tremendously, now I need to research some more !

The church i was going to here in wichita, for bible study was a cult. They have them all around the world and they believe this asian man was jesus and they believe in God the mother too (who is also an asian woman), but the thing that got me was, she would always push that in order to be a member of the church i had to be baptized by them even though i told her i was already baptized, and would try to push it heavily after a while. The baptism tub was so small and it wasn’t in the sanctuary like behind where the pastor preaches, it was literally a small little “bathroom” that was a tiny tub in the basement, The woman and men did separate bible studies (never in the same room) we went to a separate small room in a basement the first few times and sometimes go upstairs depending on what rooms were available. (just the two of us and sometimes my sister when she came) it was crazy. I always remembered I wanted to visit a Saturday when they held services but something kept telling me “not today” i kind of wish i had so i can see if it was the same as what the guy in the netflix series “dancing for the devil” was about. But i prayed to God and told him that if this church wasn’t of him to remove me and i never heard from that lady again. And ive never seen the girls that came to us in walmart ever again. When something tells you its not right, BELIEVE IT!!

Some women recruiting for this church came up to me today (university campus in the UK) and pitched the "do you know about God the Mother" thing to me and they had me caught for like 5 mins because I mentioned I was Christian so I was ready to rebut some of their interpretations of the bible (aka grasping at straws for the female image of god) She asked to send me a video about it and I firmly said "no I'll look it up myself" and I'm glad I did because a) I didn't realise they were in a cult in the moment but I do now and b) i did NOT want them getting my contact info I literally couldn't open dialogue with her, when I tried to explain that god didn't need to be two, father and mother, for both men and women to be exist, that I believed god made "mankind" (humans) in his own image and it didn't require god to be of two gendered parts, she literally couldn't respond and just kept reading from her book to me. I didn't let her get all the way through the book lmao so idk if they get onto the whole "Christ is a Korean man and Jerusalem is his bride, a Korean woman" thing in the initial pitch Overall Very odd After going away, researching and realising they were in a cult, the whole thing made a lot more sense

**To the current members of WMSCOG who watched this video** I strongly encourage documenting, voice/video recording and noting down every single prophecy, consultation and bible study session that the church delivers during your time devoting to the church, especially the doomsday-related ones that the church leaders forbid note taking. You should also consider journaling on a daily basis as you attend the WMSCOG. And of course, keep the documentation for yourself and don't tell the church leaders or other members. All of these will be strong evidence for you against the church when they attempt to deny teaching doomsday prophecies and manipulative behaviors in the church in the future.

No, you’re wrong. Spending time with family has always been encouraged at the church. Its not the church talking about heaven and hell, its the teaching of Jesus in the Bible and you haven't quoted any scripture. I have felt peace beyond understanding keeping the Sabbath day and for the first time in my life more love than Ive ever experienced for 9 years consistently. Mother only preaches love and doing good deeds, but all you've done is complain and not said one good thing or spoken about heaven. What you are saying is the teachings of Jesus and Christianity is a cult because thats what we follow - the true teachings of Jesus. Im truly sorry that individuals in positions of power said terrible hurtful things, but that goes against the teaching of the WMSCOG. We are taught in every sermon to practice love, kindness, respect and to walk as Jesus did serving others. Its the best church i have ever attended and im proud to be a member of the World Mission Society Church of God.

Just because YOU personally have always been encouraged to spend time with your family doesn’t mean that’s the case for everyone else’s experience and is not fair for you to even say. I had to ask permission during my entire membership. I was NOT encouraged. You are entitled to your opinion and feelings of “peace” about this organization but do not falsify information in your quest to defend them. We are NOT always taught about love, kindness, and respect to walk as Jesus did to serve others. The WMSCOG is constantly judging and DISRESPECTING people of other religions and quick to harshly criticize anyone who thinks even slightly different from the WMSCOG way of thought. In my experience, The WMSCOG is quick to criticize and cut off this “love and kindness” you mention because it’s entirely conditional. When a member leaves the church, they are shunned and referred to as “dead” and “better off if they had never been born.” Tell me what about that is Christ like? And additionally, when any ounce of criticism is delivered back to them, they cry “slander.” I don’t remember Jesus acting like this at all in the Bible. But do enlighten me on any verses that say otherwise.

I personally was never encouraged to spend time with my family. I was actually discouraged. I was also told my family was being used by satan when they wanted me to spend time with them on a Saturday or if I wanted to attend a wedding or a funeral. I was told I would spiritually die if I attended those events. I know this was not only my experience but the experience of many current and former members. The teachings from the Bible are twisted to fit the WMSCOG agenda. If you were allowed to look online and research the information you’ve been given (not from the provided evidence book) you would see the many discrepancies. As ex members we are sharing our experience and the WMSCOG is accusing us of being slanderers and even calling us demon possessed. The WMSCOG fits all the qualifications of being a cult.

I was in this Cult and the amount of hours that we were basically forced to study, was so crucial that I couldn’t ever have any time to rest it was unbearable. I know the pastor very well. He was very nice to me always, but I did see some thing maliciously in him and his family, especially the way he would look at certain people and degrade them on their clothing was a red flag to me .

Defintely get to know God and your bible. You need to sharpen your sword to use it for the greater good. Always respond gently and with truth. the truth of jesus love will always win. they will try to make you seem inferior and spit facts that you may not know in history and use that to their advantage, but that doesnt mean they have the truth. keep that in mind.

I got an ad for a bible study slid under my dorm room door in college (during the pandemic when campus let students come back) and my school was super strict about contact so I was super excited to try. It was two other adults and one other student at my school in a zoom call for ‘bible study’ We never prayed. I got suspicious and looked into the church name which was extremely hard to find. I was horrified and so glad nothing went further. I still wonder what happened to the other girl who was in that group :(

Who is Christ? Answer: the Son of Hebrews 1:1-3, Jesus. He is the 2nd person of the Godhead. Hebrews 1:1-3 - God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, 👉sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high👈.... It is he who ascended and "sat down at the right hand of the Majesty" (Hebrews 1:1-3) and who will appear a second time for salvation. 👉 You say Jesus shape-shifted into a Korean man in 1918 👈 Jesus is himself and not another. What don't you get? In Revelation 3:12-13 Jesus is speaking to the church at Philadelphia (3:7). It is the one who "overcomes" from the church of Philadelphia that will receive the names. Context matters. These verses do NOT in the least support WMSCOG assertions.

So true about the tithing. They would say that if you didn't tithe and give offerings, you basically not even keeping Sabbath day and the Passover wven though you are physically there and that tithing is part of keeping the feast.

@@mojalefajacob4049I’m my personal experience, the prerequisites for Passover change every year or so. Sometimes they say “anyone can come keep it.” Other times they won’t let homosexuals come to keep it or anyone who has committed sexual immorality. Other times they make you keep a months worth of services with tithing first too. I believe it varies from year to year and region to region.

@@thegirlnamedcory You're right. They always say the requirements to keep the Passover comes from the Head Office(aka Mother God/Joe Choel Kim). In 2022, I didn't keep it because I left the church. In 2023, they called/texted many times to come to keep the second passover. This year, they invited me to come to keep it I am not sure if I am going to be allowed to keep the 1st one because I only tithed for 2 months, Sept & October last year. So, you're right when you say it changes every year.

I have ptsd, anxiety and depression that put me in and out of mental institutions because of this church, the idea that the way I is sinful, ever since I was 12 I cried almost every night cuz I feared my actions would put me in hell. I still suffer from what they have done to me. I ended up getting addicted to SH, weed and alcohol for three years. I'm 19

Dina please look at every verse with caution. if their is even one error then the church cannot be the truth. Gods "truth" cannot have any mistakes. ask why the green book has been modified over 8 times since its release. ask why old sermon books are collected to pass out new ones. ask why new songs are deleted to give you "new" ones. you'll see because it is always to cover something up.

Jesus lives and reigns in heaven. He defeated death and sin forever on the cross. How is it that he was reborn if he never died? Did he lie when he said he would return to us coming from the sky? Did he complete his mission on the cross or not? Why would he need to come back as a human? They say we wouldn't recognize him to trick you. Plenty of ppl recognize Jesus today, and did back then as well. He is not a random Korean man, he is the king of kings, descended from the tribe of Judah and direct descendent of Adam. Jesus lives and will live forever unlike ansanhong who died like every man who very easily could be burning in hell and likely dragging you down with him. Fear the Lord and may God have mercy on ur soul.
