We decided it was time to revisit the Interceptor as it's been some time since we gave it a proper review. In this video we find out if it is still a god motorcycle to buy in 2024, considering that we now have the RE Super Meteor and RE Shotgun in the lineup.
Is the Royal Enfield Interceptor our favorite of the bunch, with its quintessential classic looks, great sound, character, and persona? Would you go for it or spend a couple of grand more for a Triumph Bonneville T100?

Picking a new interceptor up next week in this exact same colour, Cali green with lighting kit. Can’t wait. Watching your channels videos had a massive influence on my choice. Glad to see you still rate it. Also bought a load of gear from xlmoto, great prices.👍🏻 Keep up the good work.

Gentlemen, I purchased a 2022 RE INT 650 brand new. I've since put 8,000 miles on the bike. I live in Florida so most of my riding is on flat roads at highway speed. I do enjoy taking the bike to Cocoa Beach or upto a beach town just south of Daytona Beach for a burger and a pint. To say I'm pleased with the interceptor would be an understatement. The reliability has been fine. Just regular maintenance at the dealership. I did drop it once but at low speed so just cosmetic work was needed. I purchased a new stock exhaust system, headers and all. But the dings from my mishap are small and the replacement can wait. My bike is the Orange one chosen because it comes with tank badges and silver rims. I don't care for a blacked out rim or engine. So my version is often confused as being an older restored bike. I'm 61 years old man and gravitate towards the classics. I've participated in the Orlando DGR two years in a row. Taking one of my daughters pillion this year. Great fun and a fantastic cause. I enjoy the channel. I love seeing the old pubs an villages. That's something that Florida is lacking. But Google Pier 220 in Titusville FL. That's my local. Directly across from NASA. Live music 4 day's a week. My dog Sadie Mae and I were there last night for a bit. I've traveled a lot. I moved here from Singapore, where I was working for Deutsche bank. Well we were in Phuket for a couple months actually just before the move. I bring it up because the channel... Wait a rocket just launched, my windows are rattling. Pretty cool. Soore pubs and old towns please. Say high to your dad for me.

I have the Interceptor 650 Black model, all in black with a black and gold tank, and I think it's a great bike. Well made, with no pretensions of being a premium bike, and with everything you need to enjoy riding. It doesn't need traction controls or driving systems, it's pure, traditional riding, just petrol and the desire to do miles. I like Triumph but I've seen videos of people riding the Interceptor, riding in places where you would never ride a Street Twin or Bonavilleo, it's a tough and reliable bike. Greetings from Jaén (Spain).

I have an Interceptor 650. I’ve owned a Ducati Monster 900, Yamaha FZ09, and a Harley Dyna spjust to name a few. The Enfield is by far the most fun bike I’ve ever had. I’ve never had an issue, which I can’t say for the other ones.

Wow. That's interesting. I'm currently struggling with the idea of changing from my Ducati Monster 695 for an Interceptor. I love the Ducati's handling, power and light weight but the interceptor is more attractive as a do it all bike for me. This is mainly due to luggage options (I haven't managed to find a rack for the monster that works, the tank is plastic and higher than the clocks which makes tank bags a pain) and the throttle and brake response is a bit sudden. I feel the softer nature of the Interceptor might be closer to my old T140 Bonnie, a very forgiving ride. I'm also thinking ABS might be nice as I'm still a bit hesitant in the wet as the Monster has twin four pot Brembos on bike that weighs little more than a Honda Superdream 250. I don't go a bundle on a lot of the reviews I've seen on you tube but had the chance to speak to some real world owners yesterday - both experienced rider of both Jap and Brit bikes, both liked the Interceptor and interestingly enough didn't rate the huge amount of mods that You Tube pundits say are essential (I'd got to the point of thinking I'd need an extra grand to get the bike to acceptable riding condition). This was an eye opener for me, I'd been concerned swapping from the Ducati would be something I'd come to regret big time, but now I'm feeling that with a couple of cheap changes (fork oil, handlebars) I might have something that suits me, plus having the added benefit that I can do all my own home maintenance.

Best colour ever for that bike. ❤ I was in Hunstanton last summer, a pile of bikes were parked up, the sole Interceptor got all the looks from the public, it's looks more like a Triumph should be than any Triumph.

Still love my Interceptor after a year of ownership. A big advantage they have over (some) Triumph models is the sheer ease of availability of factory standard spares and aftermarket parts to maintain and customise these bikes at reasonable expense. Just look at the hassle poor old Freddie Dobbs had trying to get hold of a head gasket for his Bonnie. Absurd. With RE’s volume of 650 twin production, owners will have zero issues getting anything they need for these bikes for many years to come. I wouldn’t feel so confident about Triumph and lots of other manufacturers in that regard.

I just picked up my Interceptor in the gorgeous chrome and red colour a couple of weeks ago. It’s my first ever motorcycle at the age of 36 and I’ve only ridden around 400km so far, so I can’t speak for the long term value or compare it to other brands or models, but I can say it’s just an absolute joy and pleasure to ride. Smooth and pleasant but still with plenty of personality. Stock exhausts are quite big and heavy so I might swap them out someday, but they do have a lovely tone and great pops and bangs. Overall fantastic value for money without sacrificing style or performance. As you say in the video, some details are not of the finest quality, but that gives you plenty of room to personalise your cycle and make it your own over the years, which I look forward to doing on my Interceptor. Watching your videos had a huge influence on my choice. Thank you and keep up the great work!! Cheers from Milan Italy 🇮🇹🏍️

Hi, should they pop and bang with stock exhausts etc? I'd like to know. Are you opening the throttle when you start up? Apparently this confuses the ECU. As does blipping the throttle on down changes (that's a habit I must break!)

I've put 8000 miles on my 2022 Interceptor and I love it as much today as the day as it was delivered. I like the budget nature on the components, as I don't feel bad about replacing them with parts more to my taste! The single biggest improvement is free flowing pipes and silencers. That makes a huge difference. The cheap looking lights and indicators are easy to replace. As are the levers and pedals.

I had the interceptor and was a good bike. I parted company after 12 months and got a Guzzi V7 special. The Guzzi is a much more powerful bike and overtaking is much easier. The Enfield will keep up with traffic but it lacks that bit of extra pull that I like from my style of riding. I also found the interceptor seat uncomfortable and had to upgrade it, whilst the Guzzi seat is comfortable in stock form. That said the Guzzi is around £2k more expensive so that needs to be taken into consideration. Nothing wrong with either bike, it’s just personal preference.

Yes, I still have mine after 5 years, not too many miles as I also have a 1200RT. But the one thing you mentioned, well two, actually, was the lack of noise and some might say - short on performance/power. I have added the DNA Air Filter, and later on for more noise and performance, the Enfield Precision Exhausts - purchased from/through Hitchcocks. It certainly has changed the bike's character and performance - including improved economy!

The engine could do with a few more BHP, my back brake stopped working (needing bleeding for some reason) and the ignition switch sometimes fails to light the clocks to start it. And mine has the not so nice looking black rims…..not quite so traditional. But overall it looks brilliant, is great and easy to ride, and it just feels good to be on it. I am lucky to have to have another faster machine but no point comparing them, they both have different things going for them. I had been thinking way back would n’t it be great if Triumph could make a new 650 twin and then the Interceptor came along. Well done RE. I've been riding my sonorous beauty, the Interceptor in gorgeous red, for over 2 years now. After more than 10.000 kilometers I have changed an H4 lamp and the second set of tires (Bridgestone BT-46): That's all so far. - Oh yes, there is indeed a defect, the reflectors on the fork have fallen off (fortunately in the yard). What is there to criticize and improve? Nothing really, just the way this beautiful bike comes from the factory - just ride it and enjoy it. I have replaced the fork springs (YSS) for high demands (I can recommend them) and will also upgrade the shock absorbers for sporty riding and with pillion and luggage... A word about the power, if I'm honest, that was the biggest doubt, whether “only” 48hp would be enough for me, beginner's moped? After all, I still have a 120hp bike in my garage... Now it's the case that this “small” classic bike has replaced my mega-horsepower bike. So simple, easy to handle - yes, and I would argue that the bike definitely has forward momentum, that 48 hp can be a kind of sweet spot (for me, mind you - ok-but I've gotten old...). I think that such classically styled motorcycles Twins of the “British school” are forever desirable (opinion of an old man, >40 years of riding experience). Greetings to all bikers, always have a good ride!

I got a Mark 2(chrome) 4 months ago and its absolutely amazing and value for money. A head turner too. The price at which you get it and the price of service is nowhere compared to the high price points of a premium brand like Triumph. But again look at the numbers it is one of the highest selling bikes in its category and yes it might have some problems but it is such a simple machine and widely known in India that any mechanic can open it up, overhaul it and box it back. So yeah even the service cost is peanuts. So if you've got the money go with your triumph but value for money is Interceptor.

@davemitchell3998 Thanks for the input. Clearly a nicer ride. But... Locally, I can currently purchase a leftover new 2022 650INT for less than half the price of the 2024 V7. So it's a question of incremental value I'm trying to suss out.

Note that this 2024 model has the improved fatter grips, better switchgear, better headlamp and improved front master cylinder. Interesting because the 2023 Dark version had those features but not the non dark versions. However, now that has obviously changed. Currently these Interceptors are available everywhere at £4995 brand new, because the importers, MotoGB have lost the RE franchise so have to dump their stocks of thousands of bikes.I wonder if this improved model can be got at that price?

@@jamesfairmind2247 It's stock price. The new models wont be included either (as far as know - I did say early on I wasn't interested in the alloy wheel variants) . I talked to MotoGB the other day and there's around £200 for the OTR bit. Even so, £5200 OTR for the single colour model is a bargain basement price. I would hurry up if I were you, the sales person reeled of the numbers of each colour left in the UK, they were down to 3 of one colour, 8 of another etc. I think the single colours were down to Ventura blue (which no one likes apart from 1980's Suzuki lovers), they had sunset strip and chrome tank versions for more £££s. I was severely tempted but being a tight arse I'm looking at second hand ones with only a few K on the clock. As I'm learning more (and speaking to owners) I'm becoming confident I won't need the three year warranty (and I already have breakdown cover) . I am planning to buy from a dealer though, just so any issues will become apparent within the 3 month warranty.

I have just bought one, from a Canterbury dealership, a pre '23 model (halogen headlights and no USB) registered March '24 with 568 miles for about the price you mentioned and 2 years and 9 months warranty. It has bar end mirrors, lovely although a nuisance if manoeuvring the bike into tight corners, a tall fly screen and Red Rooster cans, lovely crackle sound. I have a 31" inside leg and find that I have to be very careful where I decide to stop. I can flat foot it but If I am trying to push it backwards it really needs to be a little lower. I will be fitting TEC Bikes lowering shock absorbers over the next few days and should reduce the seat height by about 2". It is a lovely bike to ride, but the side stand allows it to settle over quite a bit and takes quite a push to get it upright. It does handle very well and has more than enough power for someone who is approaching 69 years.

I bought my Interceptor 650 a little over a year ago. I chose it over the Mash Six Hundred 650, because I prefer the look of the Interceptor's engine, especially it's right hand side. :) For me, it was essential (!) to make changes for comfort: To open my knee angle, I moved the footpegs and their controls forward. For an upright riding position, I changed the handlebar for one with elevated grips and greater pullback (shorter reach; longer cables needed). To make them easier to hold, I swapped the grips themselves for fatter ones. Luggage was another essential for me and so it now has a rear rack and hard side panniers too (made room by changing silencers for level peashooters). Also, I use a small magnetic tank bag. There are more modifications that improved my bike. For example, a Fuel-X plug and play add-in, which it needed to fix the frequent stalling. What a shame that my Interceptor has developed a fault. According to the onboard Euro 5 level computer, it's right cylinder is misfiring. After some investigating and a variety of trial-and-error attempts to fix it (for example, replaced faulty sparkplug cap), I have yet to succeed to keep the engine warning symbol from illuminating (and for it to run with more than half power). Finally, the dealer, who sold me my Interceptor 650 last year, said, that, because I have made modifications and it is no longer original, I have voided the warranty and (!) that he was legally not permitted to work on it. Which is odd. but I had an uneasy feeling about him anyway, and guess, I got away lightly... ! :) In summary: a less than perfect, relatively cheap motorcycle, made to look nice

That being said, I have upgraded some of the parts, such as the levers and pedals, to more premium alternatives but these upgrades are more for the looks than for the function. The bike is great straight out of the showroom. Like you guys I still believe that it is the best looking of the Royal Enfield 650 options and that it still represents great value in 2024. I've put 2000 miles on my 2023 INT (USA name for Interceptor) with no issues. Not a lot of miles, but so far so good. I have followed the "run-in" procedure and maintenance schedule. Good run-about in town and will handle highway speeds. Thanks for the review Mr. D, nice job. One upgrade I would recommend is to put the newer controls on the older interceptors (throttle, and hand controls). I have the new controls on my Classic 350 Signals addition and they are far superior to what I have on the 2023 INT.

I picked up a 21 model Conti gt late last year with 2000kms on it with sc project pipes and air cleaner already installed, I’ve since fitted the s and s big bore and cam as well as a Barnett clutch, the fully adjustable front and rear yss suspension rs tech belt drive kit as well as a few cosmetic changes. I love it, so mush I rode it in the wet and crashed it haha but it’s hopefully going to be ready for the nice weather that’s about to start rolling in and I can’t wait to get back out on the road with it. With all the mods I fitted my self and drilled the dampers for how I wanted it to ride and it’s just a completely new bike, and now it has the added bonus of being able to easily keep up with my friends and family who ride Harley’s and sports bikes. All up I spent around 13k aud and I think it’s worth every penny for how much it made a nice bike an excellent one.

I would wanna change the wheels to a 17 inch rim and install thick section tyres of about 140.90.R17 not some common 140.70.17. that way the outer diameter of the wheels remains the same as that of 18 inch rim.

The Interceptor is about 23kg lighter than both the Super Meteor and Shotgun, so along with the GT it will be more nimble and faster. I've got an Interceptor with the chrome and red tank, after market mufflers, foot levers, and YSS suspension and it's a peach of a bike.

Had my Continental GT for three years now, I’m a mature rider and don’t do all that many miles but have loved the experience of owning it. I must admit to being disappointed with the bike at first in the handling department (I expected it to steer like the old school Triumphs I used to ride) but the fitting of a YSS fork kit, Hagon rear shocks and Avon Roadrider tyres have solved that problem. I think the engine, gearbox and clutch are sublime, they all work together so well, but I think the thing that pleases me most is the way it looks and nearly everyone I meet seems to agree. All in all a great bike.

I'm sure the plastic extender was added for the people that expected more coverage and for those that will simply remove it to add a more modern look. Trying to please all generations.!! I call this bike a beginner luxury bike that is most affordable or an to an older person that perfect looks are something that doesn't mean as much as us old folks don't look perfect anymore either. It's how you feel after the ride that's important. For an extra bike (my Classic and GT) the pricing is most important. The LED headlight is a major improvment. A mini flyscreen to protect the clocks and add looks should be added. Not too much cost here. Enjoyed the video. Keep them coming. 👍👍
