Is The Second Dream Game Changing for a New Warframe Player?

There have been very few games that immersed me into the story and caught not only my imagination, but my emotion. With the hype surrounding "The Second Dream", I had to ask myself if it would be one of those quests. The beginning of the quest line came with a lot of bugs, and plenty of silly times, but you see my live reaction to the cutscenes and find out what I think of "The Second Dream" as a new Warframe player.

Warframe is a special game. Once the story of the game starts to pick up it can not only recontextualize the experience you have had up to that point but also set goals for the future when you inevitably want to keep pushing the main story. Considering the game up to that point can be rather aimless it really is THE moment for a lot of new players where the game starts to come together. Watching new players play this quest for the first time is always a wonderful experience. Future quests are also great mind you, in fact it only gets better from here, but nothing can compare to the reveal of what the tenno REALLY are, and the appearence of a character creator suddenly making it feel like you just stepped past the tutorial for the first time. Many MMO players will say things like "Oh YoU GoTtA pLaY 100 HoUrS tO JuDgE uS" but warframe players actually have something they can point to and be like "This is what you need to reach, this point will help it all make sense, this is the point where you will know if this game is for you or not". The youtube channel LegendaryDrops has also done a great job capturing that journey in a thoughtful way and I really have enjoyed watching both of you as a more experienced player, but I appreciate the thoughts and experiences of any new player willing to sit down and talk about it, and a lot of the communitt seems to feel the same way. Thats probably part of why the game is so welcoming and its a shame tou would never know from the outside what this game truly has to offer.

Yep! I remember that when it came on my playlist on Spotify. Keith Power is the composer (for anyone reading this). It's such an amazing song. So well composed. It's not often a composer really embodies the emotion one should be feeling, but he does it with that track.

I love music, a story told well and art. A friend of mine said I had to play Warframe, but not to dive too deep into the lore outside of the game just yet. We talked about things, he’d hear my theories and just smile. I now understand why. I went on to complete the Second Dream, The War Within, The Sacrifice…. Chains of Harrow…. Stories told so damn well, with an amazing musical score. I’ve been playing for 95 days now and have just completed The New War. It really is the best game so few know about.and I’m so glad I’m having the opportunity to experience it. Thank you for sharing yours.

HA! I noticed that when editing and left it in, because he was trying so hard to get out of the water in the mission that bugged him out. He never made it out. Poor thing. He just sat there for 10 minutes getting laser blasted while I finished the mission.

After watching some of your previous Warframe videos I honestly thought you were going to utterly despise this game altogether, but I'm glad you powered through the rough beginning player experience to make it to this quest. It's the first big checkpoint that really turns most people's opinions around on this game, out of the many more that come after. It only keeps getting better from here on onwards. Looking forward to your thoughts about the other main story quests in the future!

Whaaaaat? Oh man. Sorry I gave that impression. I've really enjoyed the game so far. Sure I was harsh in the "What I don't like..." video, but I hoped it came off as constructive. I finished The War Within just tonight. I have thoughts. Many thoughts to share. 😄

I started playing warframe back in 2015. I just started playing again about 2 months ago. I finally finished New War and I was crying. Warframe story is amazing I highly encourage you to continue with it. It was more of emotional ride because of the breaks I had taken and the cliffhanger we were left on waiting for the next story. I can't say anymore don't want to spoil it. I'm enjoying watching your play through.

@@HeyItsJali Absolutely fine. In fact I would recommend taking a break between each story segment going forward. I'd say it is particularly important to do so when you reach the Prelude to War cinematics. You're still a few major quests away from them, but what I'm saying here isn't a spoiler so I hope you don't mind the warning. They were originally released months apart with limited-time events that gave additional context, but as the game is right now, they're unlocked back-to-back, which can make the story seem like it's suddenly gone from 0-100 in terms of pacing.
@HeyItsJali
@HeyItsJali 3 месяца назад
@@thegrouchization Sometimes 0 - 100 can work. I kind of felt like that with The Second Dream. Went from "chill on earth and make people happy. OK now ramp up and help some folks on Venus. Now go capture this smuggler. NOW STUFF GETS REAL!"
@thegrouchization
@thegrouchization 3 месяца назад
@@HeyItsJali It _can_ work, but in the case of the Preludes I'd say it doesn't because of what they contain. Without going into specifics, if you start watching the Preludes as soon as you unlock them, it'll feel like things have happened without enough time having passed _for_ them to have happened. Ultimately, whether you follow my advice or not is up to you. All I can say is that for the best experience, doing a random mission or two before starting the Preludes will help to mitigate the... abruptness of the experience.

I think quests like War Within, The Sacrifice, Chains of Harrow, Call of Tempestarii and The New War pump up story alot set piece wise. Tbh i was more impressed with the War Within than the second dream but fuck me, the music the shot of our warframe that’s slaughtered millions fall limply to the ground. And we’re a tiny frail child makes the world feel grounded. If anything I feel like how Warframe players start the game feel the same way our Tenno do, confused and dissociated from the world and themselves that they forget the true form they really are. Plus it took me a long time to warm up to the Lotus since alot of characters talk about her being untrustworthy or just using us, but seeing her appear in the flesh and carry us to our new home is great. It still took a while for me to really enjoy her presence but still, wish I didn’t drop this game last year. (Wouldve had a Harrow and Garuda Prime right now if I did lol)

It was even more of a wild ride waaaay back when, when this first came out. so many questions and this was the first time getting any sort of answers. There were all sorts of theories questioning if the Lotus was even a real person or more than a hologram or computer. Then she just shows up in person in a big way on top of all the other big revelations happening.

Watching this video and seeing your experience of it, was awesome. I've been framing for over 5 years, the second dream, gets me choked up every time. The artistry, the emotion, the depth of the musical score...just sensational. Always a pleasure to see someone else's experience of the Second Dream. The Sacrifice is just as impactful too. Jali, I love this game and loved watching your reaction to the Second Dream. I also watched your video where you were talking about being carried to get Nekros. I hope it's not out of place, but my least favorite mission type is defection. Otherwise only other complaint is open world bounties getting too repetitive. I also want to say, I agree with you that Meta can bite it. I want to have fun in a game not feel like I am working towards a Bachelors of Science in Game Mechanics. Some enjoy it, let them, but let me enjoy my time with my family. Meta not required. I hope you continue to have fun with it and maybe we'll come across each other sometime.
@HeyItsJali

Defection is kind of funky. It took me a few times to really figure it out.
@Maverick2736
@Maverick2736 3 месяца назад
Meta shenanigans are only really needed once you get to the highest-of-the-highest-level optional content that's only there for the players who want more challenge and difficulty, but that's like... around the final 10-20% of the game or so (not counting Steel Path, but that's less "content" and more just a difficulty modifier you can unlock to slap on top of already-existing content). There's a whole lotta' 80-90% more game in which meta isn't needed at all. The difficulty does start to climb here and there before that, especially in specific mission types, but you can just farm out smaller upgrades and equipment specialized to easily beat those when they come around and then they stop being an issue. Spy missions completely stopped being a thorn on my side after I built Loki, for example, and defenses became a fun breeze after I built Hydroid, so on and so forth. Warframe is a pretty chill game for anyone that prefers to play chill, which is really nice.

Absolutely. Warframe has freedom to a fault. It's entirely possible to optimize all the fun out of the gameplay experience. It really is a game best enjoyed going at your own pace and playing with your favorite toys.
