This year Sig Sauer released the 365 Spectre Comp and the 320 Spectre Comp. Historically we have not been fans of 320's, but is this the one that finally turns us around?

The right side slide release is a bit harder to use because it doesn't catch the slide. Only the left side catches the slide, so pressing on the right side means you have to fight the left side on the end of a lever as the slide lock flexes.

The right side slide release is harder because it's not actually touching the slide. It's essentially an "extension" of the left side so it acts as a lever and it's sheet steel so it flexes, requiring more of a "throw" and more pressure.

I bought it anyways because I liked the gun but I also bought this gun for the same reasons. LOL I'm thinking about buying a new slide barrel and a real comp for my P365XL so its done right. Mine had the same issue, Stovepipes. The recoil spring was too stiff for a comp and it suffered from weak cycle/ejection. And my issues didn’t stop or decrease after a few hundred rounds. So I got a DPM recoil spring and the issues went away. I can even run an SRO direct mounted now. Great gun and she is chunky.

I have one of the original P320's which were their first pistols that had the Romeo 1. I upgraded the trigger with the Apex complete trigger package, replaced the grip module with the P80 full size grip module, had the slide milled with weight reduction of the slide and added a Terran Tactical mag extensions to increase capacity to 21+1. Needless to say, my P320 is one bad ass bitch.... It's almost identical to the Spectra Comp, but 3 years ahead of the Spectra Comp.....

Regarding the break-in period, I have a custom P320 I did way before the factory Spectre Comp. It uses a subcompact slide Norsso, full size grip, and dual port Parker mountain machine comp. Granted it was cerakoted which affected the slide to frame fit initially, I also had about a 300-400 round break-in period. Switching to hotter ammo resulted in less stovepipes (124+p vs 115) and quicker break-in. Some guess will blame poor grip for cycling issues with comped guns, which may be accurate in some cases, however I found this to be a break-in issue as the malfunctions went away 100% after the initial 300-400 rounds. I have shot the factory P320 Spectre Comp, and the guide rod spring seemed on the very heavy side. Racking the slide took more effort than on most other guns I've shot.

I noticed a break in period additionally the slide loosened up after about 500 rounds. I did notice some really excessive wear on the barrel hood and lots of tin flaking off, all over my hands and beard. Sig says 'normal' wear I am not so convinced.
@Chrisblau
@Chrisblau Год назад
hmmmm thats a bummer. the tin is flaking off? def not supposed to happen cause from my understanding TiN has a Vickers hardness of 1800-2100, a modulus of elasticity of 251 GPa, a thermal expansion coefficient of 9.35×10−6 K−1, and a superconducting transition temperature of 5.6 K. I dont know what any of that science means from wikipedia but i i think it means that tin isn't supposed to flake. 😂

Observation, I researched the clip of Jake shooting the P320 and the 2011 back to back, and to my eyes the P320 recoiled perceptibly flatter. But that could also be due to the x300 added weight. I shot my PMM dual port comped p320 back to back with the Spectre Comp, and mines shot considerably flatter than the Spectre Comp. I agree with Chris' comment, the aftermarket was doing this to p320s much longer than Sig, and to much better effect.

I also had the stove pipe issue! I had it sent back to sig. They told me they had zero malfunctions and sent it back to me. It immediately had stove pipe issues again. It wasn't until the next time we had gone to the range that I realized anytime my left thumb touched the slide at all with my normal forward thumbs grip that it would cost stove pipes. Faster traveling ammo that was more snappy seemed to stop the issue. Or just not letting my thumb touch the slide. I bought a gas pedal. Next time I take it out we'll see how it shoots. It does seem to have less stove pipes once it's broken and more. However, on slow traveling ammo with my thumb rubbing the slide, it will slow it enough to cause stow pipes. I believe the gas pedal may be the solution. I have big hands. Hope this helps you guys

My problem with Sig is maths, hear me out. The Spectre Comp is $1,488.99 P320 X-Compact* is $600 TXG module is $250 PMM barrel/Comp is $355 So, where'd the extra $280 go? We all know that polymer guns aren't hand fit, their "custom shop" is picking up an FCU with a special serial number on it and slapping the gun together like it was another M18 or P320 Nitron. It's not "custom", it's accessorized. Sig is charging you more money for the Specter Comp than it costs you to just build one off a pre-existing assembled firearm, which means you get to save $280 _AND_ can sell the compact parts for some cash as well. I selected the X-Compact as an example because it has the right slide length and is red dot cut, and grip length doesn't matter.

It was MALFUNCTIONING every 2-3 shots… I tried“working” mags from my other 320 legion, didn’t solve it. Sent it into sig, they said “they couldn’t find an issue but replaced my barrel due to excess wear” I requested further testing. I got it back within 2-weeks at no charge (very happy with their support). Since I have shot it 500+ rounds no issues. Nice honest review as always guys. I want to buy one of these Spectre Comp guns but I'm hesitant about the stove piping issue. I wish Sig would make a good pistol with a comp that works flawlessly out of the box for the amount of money I'm paying for it, that doesn't have jamming issues that requires me to spend my hard earned cash and valuable time to either put 800+ rounds down it or pay $100 to DPM for a mechanical recoil reduction kit to fix the stove pipe problem. If your going to spend $1,600 for a gun you expect no problem shooting any 95-147gr 9mm out of the box. Why is Sig allowing this to happen and making tons of people so frustrated that they send their gun back to Sig to fix the issue. I just don't get it.

Sig just seems to fill the spaces that all their customers want . You don’t have to buy the most expensive of the X series models as a Legion , AXG or RXP etc may do the job just as well. The Spectre Comp is just a variant that comes OofB with some of the customization that folks have been already doing aftermarket apart from a Graygun’s trigger or Barstow barrel etc. I have a few 320’s and shoot a P320 Max in competition cause it comes with a great Romeo 3 Max optic installed , a Legion tuneable 1911 spring system and a pretty good trigger. I’d say the Max without a comp may shoot softer than the Spectre Comp due to the design of the slide and the springs . I’ve had zero reliability issues with any of my Sig P320 variants. But I do swap out the OEM takedown levers with Armory Craft as the OEM’s can break eventually and run Springer extended mag releases for a fast reloads. Phil Schrader and Max Michel are both top competition shooters and their pedigree is evident in how a lot of these models perform IMO.

One, if not the only gun that's in the news more & more now days. Being completely Unsafe & LE Dept. are starting to switch back to Glocks, etc. Most of us have seen the vids of these guns just going off while Officers are walking while in duty holsters & the last video I seen was an Undercover Officer get out of his car, walk around another vehicle & boom! His 320 just went off without him touching it , etc. My Buddies PD SE of Houston will not allow them to Carry the 320 any longer & my old Dept. made the same switch. Too many liabilities & law suits. Calling this a "mythical issue" by highly trained LE Officers & Military? I think not! SIG is "Settling" most of these law suits & there's a lot of claims. I'll stick with my G19X & buy a Prodigy for that price, even though I do love the look of the M-18 🤟 If the Glocks were going off like the 320? The internet would be on fire!

I bought am M18 because of the external manual safety. I got some info from an Army soldier from the local base and he said some of their M17’s went off (not sure if the safety was engaged and carried in the correct holster). My local Gunsmith checked my M18 and it has all the springs but I still don’t want it if there is a chance of ND. I put a Romeo 0 Pro and Wilson grip module so hopefully I can sell it.

I want an M-18 w/ the ext. Safety for sure. Or the new 226 x5. I love SIG (even though I own more Glocks & 1911's) but the "Duty" or civilian 320 is in deep trouble now for going off. Milwaukee is one that's been in the news the most but there are others 🤟

Thank God. Someone else who realizes p320’s are dramatically inferior pistols when compared to their striker fired counterparts. Why? There’s some major things regarding the 320 that are VERY troubling. (1) *THE ONLY PARTS OF THE P320 MADE IN THE USA ARE THE SLIDE AND BARREL.* That’s it. Every other part is made overseas in either Indonesia or India. (2) *Every other “metal” part - aside from the slide and barrel - is made of super low quality MIM and cast/stamped metal shavings.* All the slide internals, the entire FCU, the frame, etc… Using that much MIM for hyper critical components of the pistol is catastrophic for longevity. Mark my words. My X-Carry has been 100% through 5,000 rounds for 5 years. But that’s a low round count over a short period of time. What we don’t have w P320’s is long term data like we do with other pistols that have been around for decades. (3) *I believe we’re going to see a huge number of problems/breakages w the p320 pertaining to longevity only 10-15 years down the road (from 2016).* Things we wouldn’t expect to see from other makes and models of “high end, well made, striker fired 9mm’s”. BC handguns on average have an exponentially longer lifespan than rifles do. It’s not uncommon to see 1911’s, Berettas, CZ’s, DA/SA Sig’s, etc run for hundreds of thousands of rounds before even needing a barrel change. By comparison, AR barrels will typically last between 20,000 & 40,000 rounds. So in summation, it’s pretty terrible of Sig to choose profit over quality by shipping manufacturing overseas conflicting w their ethos. And it’s even worse to hide this from the public while continuing to charge premium, made in the USA, firearm prices. Very disheartening. I implicitly trust my life to my 226’s and 229’s… But my 320 remains only a range/training tool. YMMV.

Having owned several P320s, my issue with them comes down to this: modularity aside, the base P320 models are just ok. There's nothing particularly special going on, and the triggers are kind of creepy and mediocre. On the other hand, when you get into the "Custom Works" P320s, while they tend to be better than the base models, they are WAY over-priced for what you get, and this seems to be no exception. I would expect a $1400 polymer striker to be excellent. Instead, they are just "good," but still not amazing. I can get a Walther Q5 Match for the price of this P320 Spectre Comp, and I don't think there will be any comparison - not in terms of overall build quality, nor trigger.
