I got the 105 as soon as it came out and did the mount switch. Yeah, eye af sometimes miss but so far its been my main portrait/headshot lens. If you are shooting events where its easy to miss a moment dont get this, for studio work though where you can take your time this is one of the best lenses you can get.
The images from the Sigma stand alone and for still photography, I don’t think it has an equal. I have the 85 GM and plan to get the 105 eventually. Thanks for the effort you put into this video, Jason!
I appreciate the perspective you gave with this compared to the 85mm 1.8 which is already on my list to get. Now that I know I can get similar results with a few step forward I’ll remove the 105mm and focus on the 24mm 1.4! Merry Christmas Sir!
I just recently got my sony A7III and I love it, these types of videos really help out when deciding on what lens to get, and I think I'm gonna go with the Sony 85 1.8 for telephoto

I've been researching for almost two years, i finally bought my first Sony mirrorless camera two weeks ago. Seems like you are the only one i know who recommended the 85mm 1.8 over the Sigma 105mm. I also think the results are not that similar, especially on the bokeh.. thanks anyways. I'm getting the 105, sorry.. 😁

Nice review Jason, Sigma Art for Sony....i'm looking closely at them, they're on my radar for sure, but not sure I need the 105 at this point. 35 1.4 and 85 1.4 possibly, not that this is a bad lens, it looks great.
I have the 85mm 1.4 from sony gmaster it's worth it to have the 1.4 because if you stop down the lens the extra Diaphragm Blades it has will be worth it :)

There is so much glass out front, I would be afraid of dinking it for sure. Thanks for comparing the 135mm with the 85mm, now I know I can be happy with my 70-200GM and 85 batis really no need - saving me money!
Great test. I love my Sony 85mm f/1.8. So sharp and such a bargain. I wish I could find a use for one of the Sigma Art lenses. They are super sharp and are priced well but they are just so darn big.
Jeez that thing is massive! I use the Sony 18 to 105. I wish it had a better aperture but it's pretty versatile. Lately I've been using the Sigma 16 though.
My forearms aren't great, but I can hold a D600 and 80-200 f/2.8D push-pull for 8 hours straight without much trouble. The extra 3.6 lbs in my bag with the A7III I have now wouldn't bother me. Though this lens being *dense* might bother me after a while without the tripod. The D600 + zoom had the benefit of the weight being spread out.
I already got my lens for the holidays! Thanks to your review I was able to pick up the Tamron 28-75 with confidence. Im doing a trip to Japan in may and that lens will probably live on the cam for most of the time. Thanks dude!
people complaining about the size need to understand its not for you this not a consumer product its meant for pros who are trying to achieve a particular look
Hi Jason, think you did a fair job! As a Dutch semi ambassador towards sigma BENELUX I haven’t been able to shoot with my A73 and this lens. As with Sigma yes they are heavy recently used the 85 mm. so I can imagine this one is bulky as well. so as always enjoyed your review! Happy holidays and keep it coming like your channel 👍🏻
hardbsb Totally agreed. Just see the size of the 40 art compare to first released 35 and 50 art. I think if they continue do so, those lens are for studies.
@@ywind6 I have their 30mm 1.4 for APC and it is so small, light and take gorgeous pictures. I know these lenses are in different market segments, but it feels like it is a company competing with itself.
After the Sony A7iii 2.0 update I’ve had focusing issues with my Sigma 35mm 1.4 ART. Thanks for the video, I have the Sony 85mm 1.8 and I absolutely love it. The Sigma 105 looks amazing but the weight is a dealbreaker. Great video, thanks again.

Had it and sold it for the Sony 85 1.8. It takes phenomenal photos. The weight wasn’t so much the issue, even though it is a beast, for me as was the size. I can take my 85, 35, and extra batteries for my B10 strobe in my bag for the same space as what this monster took up. The difference in image quality between the 105 and 85 1.8 is only slightly noticeable if you pixel peep, and to me, wasn’t worth the difference in cost and inconvenience of the size.
@@JasonVong Since I already have a 50mm (Sony), I consider buying the sigma 30mm 1.4. I Saw that the sigma 50mm is so sharp. Where the 30mm is in comparison of these 3 lenses in term of sharpness?
What is up hybrid shooters! A “friend” I know is getting his first Sigma piece of glass for Christmas. 16 mm F1.4 so that I have a wider option for video and photos. That “friend” could really use a t-shirt to go with it.
I shoot ports with the sigma 105 art, and LOVE it... but, i don't travel with it, I don't walk around with it too much, and I don't shoot video. When I do walk around with it, a little bit, it doesn't bother me, but I am a bigger guy. If you want optically flawless results for portraits, the sigma art 105 just can't be beat.

The Sigma art lenses are amazing, but they are built with image quality in mind at the sacrifice of form factor. I’d be interested in seeing if they bring their zooms to the E Mount
MC-11 is usually on sale this time of year. Now that Sigma has the L mount it's possible that some lenses will be kept for that mount only (so perhaps the zooms may not be available in E mount without MC-11.)
Great video! I've been trying to decide what lenses I should get for my A7Riii for a little while now. It's hard figuring out if I should spend the extra money on a GM or go sigma since I really want that 1.4... Your reviews are definitely helping me make more educated decisions! Thank you! Thanks Jason for another great video. Currently have the 85mm f/1.8, amazing lens for the price. I am debating between the Sigma 105mm and 135mm for my next tele lens. After playing with them at my local camera store, I think I like the 135mm better. By the way, I am from Edmonton, Canada. I can put the Sony Alpha beanie to good use! Lol
