Appreciate your candid views on the relative ‘value’ of cameras. As you say, it’s most often the skills of the videographer and not just how expensive a camera is. It’s very easy to get sucked into the marketing that pushes new technologies. For example the hype about the new “global shutter” eliminating rolling shutter effects. For those old enough to remember using film, there was no rolling shutter with film either.😊

Definitely a lot of hype and shiny object that distract from the real mission to MAKE FILMS! Great take, thanks for the comment 🔥

This video was just what I needed. I am in the market for a camera now. I've spent days reading reviews and watching videos. With each passing day, it feels like my budget is increasing. My budget started out at $700, and now I find myself studying $1200 cameras. It really is unnecessary for what I'm trying to do. Thanks for the advice.

The actual key difference is ZV-E10 is an 8-bit camera. If you are making anything that does much of anything in post production more than selecting cuts you are not a beginner, and this ZV-E10 will not deliver the needed footage
@VisionaryFilmStudios
@VisionaryFilmStudios 7 месяцев назад
Yeah definitely respect your opinion but 100% could not disagree more. TLDR; it’s the filmmaker that matters, not their camera. I considered mentioning the 8 but vs 10 bit color in this video but opted not to. Are there times when 10 bit come in handy? Yeah definitely- I’d pretty much never shoot log on the e10 bc of the 8 bit color. But having worked on big commercial projects, films, and international campaigns for over 10 years doing quite a bit more than ‘selecting cuts’, I can assure you that if someone needs 10 bit color to get a precessional final product, they are the problem not the camera. Spicy take 🌶️ 😬 but I’d be surprised if any of my colleagues would disagree with me. So why did I leave it out in this video? Well I could make a list of 20 reasons the a7Siii is a better camera on a technical level, but this video would end up being an hour long or more. So I grabbed five of the things I felt like most people would consider the most prominent and focused on those to make a larger point- one some people missed (my miscommunication) if they’re distracted by other things like color, size, button options, full size hdmi ports, dual recording, etc. At the end of the day, it’s the filmmaker that makes incredible films regardless of what tools they have at their disposal- not the camera they have access to. Thinking you need premium features to do more than select cuts and make home videos is simply misguided. That was the point I was trying to make in this video. With that said, I definitely respect that not everyone has the same opinions. That’s totally fine. Really appreciate the comment even though I don’t agree. Just hope you’re getting out there and making some BANGER films 😉🔥

I'd say the rolling shutter is far more important. It's horrendous on the ZV-E10 in 4k24, the worst of essentially any camera ever made.

@@VisionaryFilmStudiosI agree, they shot ‘Frances Ha’ and ‘Like Crazy’ on cameras way inferior to this one in terms of specs or whatever, and some great films have been shot on VHS cassettes and iPhones.

This was great. I can tell there’s a few people triggered by what you’re saying, because having to accept the fact that they blew thousands of dollars on gear when they could have gotten just as good of a result for a fraction of the cost is a hard pill to swallow. You obviously have spent your share as well, but still have the sincerity to be honest and recommend better for us. As someone who owns a zv e10, this was inspiring to watch. Thanks for putting in the effort. Keep it up.

Glad you’re crushing it out there! Imo the buy rate and 10 bit color isn’t a big deal either- that’s why I didn’t include either in this video. Could make a list of 20 ways the Siii is better on a technical level, but my conclusion would be the same. None are a huge deal, and you can shoot just as great of content from either camera. Hope your next project is a BANGER! 🔥🔥

Unpopular opinion: go Used Market and get a GH5S for about $550 USD. same sensor as the one used in the BGH1 (with some minor adjustments to Dynamic Range and Color Science) and that camera is "Netflix Approved". Stop relying on Auto Focus to save you, Real Filmmakers use manual focus or cine lenses that are only Manual Focus. Start training yourself early. If your a vlogger and not serious about filmmaking then yes, ZV-E10
@VisionaryFilmStudios
@VisionaryFilmStudios 7 месяцев назад
Love the GH5S, know several guys that shoot with this and put out some awesome stuff. Great take, don’t totally agree, but a good take nonetheless. TLDR; cine lenses are better, but imo not a defining feature of a ‘real filmmaker’. And ‘Netflix approval’ isn’t a great metric to analyze cameras. You definitely can get some nicer footage using cine lenses- would be hard to disagree with that. But not totally sold on ‘real filmmakers’ use cine lenses. Depends on how to define a real filmmaker I guess. I make a living making commercials and films but don’t use cine lenses. I know plenty of other guys in the same boat (including the ones that shoot I’m on the GH5S actually). Does that make us not ‘real filmmakers’? I’d say that’s not a defining feature, but to each they’re own. As far as ‘Netflix Approved’ cameras- I’ve never heard a professional use that as a metric for a good camera… the only people I hear care about it is amateurs who aren’t actually making a living or shooting big projects. The ‘Netflix approval’ is just the list of cameras they use for their films anyway- they still buy films that was shot on another camera. I know people with netflix license deals that 100% did not shoot on ‘Netflix approved’ cameras. It’s not that big of a deal… Like I said that, really appreciate your take! And complexly agree that shooting on cine lenses will (generally) improve the visual quality of your films. Just not convinced by any of those ‘do this or you’re not a real filmmaker’ philosophies. Hope your next project turns out the be a BANGER 🔥🔥
