I grew up in Louisiana. The first time I experienced outright racism was when my family moved to Los Angeles.

I live in Indiana have this conversation regularly. If I mention moving south, the first thing someone says is, "Why? It's racist as hell in the South." Then I ask them to think about things that have occurred in the north or how they're treated in certain places here, or "what's a city you refuse to go in Indiana because you know how racist it is". Case closed.

I have lived in both. I grew up in New Jersey. We knew where the racist places were. I'm Florida where I raised my daughter the racism is horrific. So you saying you don't consider FL the South I immediately side eyed you. Lol 😂 The first place ever I got handcuffs put on me was in FL after growing up 25 years in the N.E . When you live it there is no doubt. And the wages down there are poverty level. I live in L.A and it's racist in parts just like N.J but it is easy different then FL.

It's too late we're already here😅 I was born in Manhattan but raised where my mother is from North Carolina and my husband was born in North Carolina and raised in New York and we decided to retire back down south and I can honestly say that the south is where I prefer to be because of the privacy and also the cost of living is way better than in New York where I have a sister of mine who pays a $3,000 mortgage a month compare to I and my husband's $600 a month mortgage 🎉 with three acres of land the older I get I understand more why my father always called New York the rotten apple

Those are some eye-opening statistics! I've lived in Texas my whole life except for a couple of years in Indianapolis. It seemed like everyone in Indianapolis automatically assumed that people in Texas were more racist.
