Bought my 1st tables at 15 and couldn't afford 1200s so I got Gemini pt2000's instead and loved them. But 1200s have a reputation for a reason. They were bullet proof and lol had that torque.
Without a doubt in mind. This is a turntable that’s been around for ages, and it’s literally the foundation of turntablism as we know it. It’s literally the mascot or the most recognizable sign of Turntablism, and it’s literally the turntable that to this day continues to get copy and paste it. Whether it’s controllers trying to imitate the foundation of the functionality or other sets of turntables, it is without a doubt the greatest of all time.
No doubt that the competition has caught up, however for something patented in 1969 and this question is even asked says alot. I'll never sell my mk5s...and looking forward to a Rane one.
Well...my 90s 1210 are still with me...tried to change, but overall they are japanese quality and undestroyable :) , the chinese ones didnt hold up and im very carefull with my equipment... the only turntables that i miss are the sl 1015 that i use to play at the clubs in the 90s. Plenty of torque and +-9.9 pitch. Well, i bought a couple of mixars lta, only cause the ultrapitch and because my tech spindles are loose...after so many years i have it modified many times and still more trusty than the super oems. Btw, the numarx tt500 are very good :)...at the end of the day you can mix and scratch witch whatever you have, like "check the technic"..."s" :D
I had over 30 turntables in my life since i was 12... Had them all: Rega, Thorens, Sanyo, Sony... Lately i purchase the new Technics SL-1210GR and let me tell you this: Technics is the BEST turntable i've ever have. My last lifetime turntable.
Is a shame they make the new technics mk 7 cheap not like the original 1200 mk 2 oh 5 wheel of steel damn so sad about that n not made on Japan I rather keep my 1200 mk 5 n my mk 2 still working like a champ since 89 I like the pioneer pls 1000 is heavy build n the torn arm is good for scratching turntablist too n is a simple turntable it feel like the original technic 1200 wheel of steel they feel the same when I touch it n I bought me a pair when they stop making the technic now they came back but cheap n expensive the original technic 1200 was $500 in the ,80s for what I remember i
