The trumpys have two things that can't be beaten: looks and lineage. The competition can be better on a spec sheet, but that logo on the tank counts for a LOT, even if they are made in India. If the price is competitive enough, it'll be the triumphs all the way.
@MotoJournoKris

Yep, I can see these making a big impact, and there's no denying Triumph has some real appeal.

Always the same nonsense from European brands fanboys. This time its not "character" but "lineage" lol A shitty bike is a shitty bike and a good bike is a good bike. "Lineage" changes nothing. The competition does many things better than Triumph. Only suckers care about a logo

For sure, compared to all the other bikes on this list (and in the same category as a whole really) they're far superior in looks and styling. I'm waiting until I can test ride them, but right now I'm anticipating I'll be purchasing a Triumph Scrambler 400 when they come to dealerships

I'm really quite clueless about the speed 400, but i think interest in the scrambler 400X is going to be huge. Scramblers overall are gaining in popularity again and i can see why. Adventure bikes have been hugely popular for many years now, but like everything else automotive they just keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger again. I've already dropped a deposit on a 400X, sadly not arriving in the UK till January, but I can wait. My reasoning?. I've had a few adventure bikes and currently ride a Honda 650 Transalp. It's 200+ kg and very top heavy. It's weight is is very intimidating off road and with a 21" front wheel it's actually a bit of a pig on road, especially on tight twisty country lanes that are so much fun to ride on the right bike. I want a bike i can ride just about anywhere, from motorways to green lanes that'll be engaging and fun instead of an intimidating handful. A reasonably lightweight scrambler with decent power and looks the bees knees seems like exactly the bike I'm looking for. For my money, I think triumphs found a sweet spot with the scrambler 400X.
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris Год назад
Yep, that's the challenge, the adventures tend to be big and heavy, even the smaller options. I think these Scramblers are more similar to the 390 Adventure, which is more of an all-rounder.

Good review and comparison Kris, thanks. I think the Triumph's beat all the other contenders on looks. If they get the pricing right in Australia, they will be onto a winner.

Prices for most new competitors starting to drop in Europe with the season slowly coming to an end, from dealerships trying to make room for 2024. I quite fancied the Honda CL500 after having tested that Scrambler for nearly half a day. I absolutely love the drop-dead gorgeous looks of those Triumphs 400 and believe they can be successful, if they can keep their Indian made bikes closer to the €5000,- region. A big temptation for the German public is where new CL500‘s can be had for round €6500,- and the standard CB500F going for €6000,- across the counter(twin-discs+17Lit tank!!!) , although not being retro-styled. It’ll be the pricing that decides in our ever developing cost conscious times. Thanks for a cool review, Best greets from Düsseldorf 😉

Yep, I think pricing will be a huge factor for many riders, as they are after value, especially in the smaller machines. These do look great, I guess in my mind I don't put a big dollar value on TC, compared to other features, as once bikes go ride-by-wire it should be a simple and cheap addition. The bikes both look impressive otherwise - at the right price.

Being a target audience fro this bike, I would add 390 Adv to the comparison. This is the bike I am riding now, and I am thinking about maybe swapping it for the new Triumph Bajaj, because they seem to be very similar in many aspects. The only difference being styling: modern vs retro.
@MotoJournoKris

Definitely, there was a few arguably better comparisons that fall outside the neo-retro kinda of segment. Tempted to do separate videos covering it.

@@takeshikusao4674 Mid range torque/power-its not a long stroke like the RE that develops heaps of torque at low RPM nor does it have much power above 7000 RPM is what i see reported. The TR400 is luggable, there are YT vids showing it not stalling when put into in higher gears at idle it doesn.t stall.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pNe60VVG030.html Ya the KTM seems to take off from 4000RPM up. I want more power n mid or low RPM for traffic in Asia where i live and for off road. I do not want to be restricted from riding on highways at 100+ km though. Many said the KTM is very smoother at highway speeds than the TR400's so Triumph seems to have slotted the engine in between the KTM 390 and the Royal Enfields power delivery wise. Someone called it very boring and linear power delivery. Sounds like it will work well for me and it looks amazing. I have a deposit on a green 400X but will test ride it first of course.

Another lovely compilation and comparison, Kris! Had to click as soon as I saw it on my feed. Just as a note, Benelli's typically come with dual front disk which is often listed as a selling point (braking power between models on your list can be debated). I also wondered whether the Honda CB300R could have been included as neo-retro - and probably quite a common machine. Who knows, perhaps the future might also bring a Yamaha XSR 300. I'd love to see a comparison with the other 300-ish class bikes (e.g., KTM 390 Duke, Kawasaki Z400), for folks who shop by capacity, price, and the like - who perhaps put slightly less emphasis on the style or aesthetics of the bike.
@MotoJournoKris

Enfield have done an exceptional job, but also don't have the higher performance small capacity options yet. You have to jump up to the 650s for that, although it's a much smaller jump than most of the competition when it comes to price.
@vilaskulkarni3147
@vilaskulkarni3147 Год назад
Ya, but Royal Enfield is testing their liquid cooled 450 adv, very hard. Triumph-Bajaj being on their throat, starting from India, means that they can't take any wrong step forward. November beginning, Himalayan 450 is expected to be launched. Scram 450 may follow. It would be matching the steps with Triumph 400 series and would have comparable specifications. In India, we are waiting for the tussle to take place so that consumers benefit. 😊
@MotoJournoKris

@@vilaskulkarni3147 I'm definitely hoping we're seeing around that 35 kW range for their new engine, however that would also put a lot of pressure on the 650s as they aren't much more, and Royal Enfield haven't traditionally chased performance.

It's neo retro which is by definition a modern take on retro. There's probably a reason all the neo retros get called neo retros and look similar. I wonder what it is?
