This car is definitely worth the money if you’re looking for an good midside luxury sedan and the e class is too expensive I saw these in real life at bmw dealer and it’s ofcourse something I would consider so yes my money is on a 5 series
Great video Joe! M550I is a bargain compared to the M5. Curious I wonder why Mercedes doesn't make an E580 sedan with the V8 to compete directly with the M550I?🤔 The E53 doesn't cut it against the M550I.

Usually most people who say this have never owned one. If I am correct BMW is still the top selling German Auto manufacturer.... I am actually in the market for this car it surprises me so many people talk ish and can't afford one
The harman/kardon sound system is standard on the M550i and is optional on the lower 5 series trims. The M550i has the option for a Bowers and Wilkins Diamond Surround system.
Black glass just on the back windows unbalances the lines from the sides so my (U.K. spec) 2020 M340i doesn’t have sun protection glass for this reason. Anything other than slight tinting of the glass is not permitted on the front side windows and windscreen in the U.K.
The reason why the headlights are redesigned is because of the new LASER lights , not legal in the USA . So they blacked out where the LASER would be .
First person in youtube to review the faclifted 5 series. And u did the review in the scorching sun. Deserve a thumbs up. I love the m5 for its subtleness and its crazyyyyy power and u can change the the all wheel drive to rear wheel drive for burnouts and slaying tires.
To me the interior is all sport and not luxury. The interior is old school. Same thing over and over again. Seats and steering wheel are the same and nothing special. I like the Mercedes interior for it looks more luxurious...
Great informative video as usual. I love everything about this car, the design, size, the twin-turbo V8, 4WD, the power. This is the car that made BMW make a proper M5 because a M5 was only RWD before the last generation, but the M550xi would outperform it in every way, especially if would did a flash. Essentially, this car is a detuned M5 and will achieve its level of power and transmission sportiness just by uploading the M5 software. My only question is, how will it be to live with out of warranty or lease? Are they still as notoriously unreliable? I hope the collaboration with Toyota in building the Supra and the level or QC that Toyota maintained in that parts had to be remanufactured several times to meet the standard, has an influence on BMW quality reliability from then on.
Is there market research saying that people prefer the iPad style on top of the vents rather than the infotainment system being in the center?! I get that 12 inches is hard to put in the middle but damn... I dont understand who came up with that trend (my biggest pet peeve)
I don't know if you'll see this Joe...you might remember that I now own one of these cars, in part thanks to your review, but I wanted to mention something about the seats. You mention that they're comfy (they are) but you say that they're kind of flat (the back). A while after I bought the car I realized there's a button to electronically tighten up the side bolstering. They hold you nice and snug, and it feels great! Maybe the next time you're at a BMW dealer you can sit in one and see what I mean. On throttle!
It looks soo good! I love the new lighting assemblies and the overall desigh and proportions. I don´t love BMW in general, but this 5series refresh does satisfy me!
Love BMW and BMW grills may not be attractive but Im glad they are trying something new and I love how BMW don't care what people say about their grills because every new (some new BMW's) is going to get the corporate giant kidney grill. Great job once again.👍
I have driven M550, it drives pretty good, smooth riding overall, great puckup and handling, but i have problem with outdated interior. It looks so so old compare to Audi, Porsche, and Mercedes. I own 2019 A6, which outclass BMW easily inside/out, trunk space is also much smaller than Audi. I wish they improve the interior, so i can try a BMW in future.
Agreed, I too test drive the M550i with a serious intent to buy it. I was blown away by how smooth it rides and thr overall comfort. However, the tech and buttons just didn't seem all that "2020" to me. Also, have been reading about the 4.0 V8 twin turbos not being the most reliable of engine choices long haul. BMW did a great job with this, but I could not bring myself to commit to buying it.
If they use this car interior and Exterior for Electric, it will definately be a Tesla Model 3 and Y killer.... but they used 4 series...so sad useless rear seats in M4
Calling it a BMW logo doesn't do it justice. Its the BMW Spindle. Some things you call them respectfully by their name. BMW is a respected automotive company. The logo likewise. That said it's the BMW Spindle. Joe every time you said BMW logo. I just cringed 😬.
Beautiful car!!! But garbage!!!! Most of engine components made of plastic, always breaking down!!! I had a m3 and upgrade to a m5 . Spent thousands of dollars in repairs !! biggest mistake in mi life buying those junk cars!!
Great review as always Joe! I love the Cerium Grey badging and how it ties in with the wheels, and sometimes the cerium mirror caps and front grille. It’s a pretty cool color!
exactly, i love the restyling 7er. This 5er is decent on the front, but so ugly on the rear. and people say 7er are ugly...really folks have bad taste these days
Those valves will go bad in 6-8 years... they still have not fixed those got damn V8’s and I would know I had an 01 540i years ago. Great car, crap on gas, and I spent more on that car then I did myself lol
My dad has the 2020 M550i and it’s an insane drive. Such a lowkey car but has so much unexpected power. Feels like a 7 series in comfort and a super car in sport plus

they are no longer sharks. the ridiculous high hood line ruined it. Someone told me it is a US DOT requirement to not allow low noses anymore. There certainly is no engineering or technical requirement for us to look like poly wags instead of sharks.
I believe the HK sound system is standard. The B&W system is an expensive option. Those seats do have power adjustable side bolsters that give you more lateral support. Not as much as a full /M but sufficient for twisty roads. Note most BMW model top seat options do have the adjustable bolsters, even the X models. PS: I have the 2018 M550i
The M550 is an awesome car but BMW messed it up with those thin tires on the 20-inch wheels. They burst in any pothole. The suspension is quite crude as well because it crashes on rough surfaces instead of being well dampened. Otherwise, it's a super car.
