We've watched his favorite M. Night film, and now it's time to watch mine. Chris Stuckmann is back to dive into The Village, a romance advertised as a horror that's secretly a Christmas movie starring a live-action Joker, an animated Joker, and a young Blurry Eisenberg. The cinematography, the music, and the performances are all top-notch, but it does have a few issues and once again Chris brings some great insight and fun facts to share.

@@SilverShade1008 See, and now I know, my memory is still pretty fucking great, `cause out of all those movies you just named, I´ve ONLY seen Sicario..... I think, I´ve had 1917 on my hard drive for quite a while, I just could never get myself to watch it yet... Doesn´t seem like something that would interest me, I generally hate war movies too, didn´t even see Hacksaw Ridge. The only level, that´s acceptable for me personally is like the way it was portrayed in Forrest Gump. And even that went almost a little too far for me.....

But if I had to pick a favourite besides Signs off the top of my head..... I´d probably say like their Spiderman trilogy commentary or the very great "Be careful what you wish for" video about Spiderman Homecoming. Eric´s most DEFINITELY got some talent! And I wish to keep an eye on his carreer....

I remember seeing this in theaters with my dad. He came out genuinely irritated, being an M. Night fan for years, but I had no idea what to expect, so I actually liked it. He then went on to show me all the other films that he had done at the time to show what he was expecting it to be like. Looking back on it, it feels more like he was trying to indoctrinate me into some M. Night cult.

Under-rated.. absolutely because if the same movie had Steven Speilberg, Nolan or Tarantino's name attached to it instead of Shyamalan, The Village would've been celebrated forever as the greatest of all time.. even got awards and included in the US cultural guild of honor. Man remains his worst enemy when it comes to being dishonest and keeping double standards even in the same industry.. 🍷Fortunately his viewers and fanboys remain marvelled and inspired by Shyamalan's creative vision and exeptional works and so I always will.

I´m just glad that the twist didn´t ruin the movie for me, I remember a lot of people didn´t like it and said they totally saw it coming (which is like......... WEIRD.......), but they overlook the fact, that the rest of the movie, overall, is still pretty fucking fantastic! I think, where it really went downhill was with The Last Airbender and Lady in the Water. I mean, of course I also haven´t seen all of his films, but those 2 are his worst, I would say. I still have much love and respect for the man, I´m always curious to find out about some new stuff, that he does and I can even enjoy watching The Happening as a satire. I´d actually say, his craziest twist would be from the movie "Split"! That it connects to the Unbreakable universe! `Cause nobody saw that fucking coming! And I also have much love for the movie Glass actually and its twists. Many people weren´t all too happy about that either......

I love how everyone is really familial. Noah did impulsively stab Lucious out of jealousy & ignorance of his strength, but there’s still no evil bastard(s) we get to know about. It’s really refreshing to see a rural thriller where people aren’t stoned & shit, but encourage accountability and let people feel their feelings.

The _movie_ wasn’t a colossal miscalculation, the _marketing_ for it was. If those marketing for it had a clue, they wouldn’t have ruined it for so many people and it would’ve been greatly enjoyed. Thankfully I never saw any trailers for it, had no expectations, and absolutely loved it. The message is powerful and sweet and had one of the most gorgeously haunting soundtracks of all time.

I wasn’t surprised by the modern twist because it was part of a book I had loved as a kid. In that book, a girl has to leave her village to get medicine as children were getting sick, and she learns that her village is part of a living history museum/theme park. To my mind, I like to think of this as a loose adaptation of that book

in middle school my friend had a sleepover birthday party and my friends wanted to watch a scary movie so we could watch 13 Going on 30 afterwards when we were inevitably too scared to function. We end up picking this movie and by the end we were all confused as heck and unsettled but ultimately, not really scared??? Just very confused and my friend said "we can't just watch 13 Going on 30 now, we have to be scared!" So after this movie we put on CABIN IN THE WOODS which just confused us even MORE and also had 2 college students or whatever getting it on in the middle of the woods. Needless to say, we were pretty disappointed little middle schoolers and watched 13 Going on 30 anyway 😂

I’ve always like this movie. People focus too much on ‘the twist’ than on the story. These people experienced immense personal pain and withdrew from society. The way in which they did that, and their continuing motivation to keep their children isolated, is a really cool concept. The problem is that everyone expects a twist ending from this director, and the trailers led us to believe that this was going to be a monster-horror movie.

Honestly in the Shyamultiverse this movie is a close second to Signs. As a youngin it was spooky and suspenseful and heartwarming and blew my underdeveloped mind.
