I bought mine brand new back in 08, still have it today. I recommend vacuum pump delete, cold air intake, replace the N80 Purge valve and regular maintenance and it will last a lifetime.
I've always loved the smooth power delivery of the VWs! As you said, they are such an upgrade to a Honda or Mazda. They always felt cheap to me. VW had always had as solid feel! Nice video! Thanks for sharing.
Thats cap I had fully built modded af thunder bunny rabbit 09. 09 was fastest motor giving it nearly 200 horse stock. Compared to 06-08. And Id take 2006-2011 honda civic si all day over the rabbit. Once you hit 150k thing is trash. I had mine at 30k miles and drove the fck out of it. Transmission just not as satisfying to drive compared to Honda’s. Still good car if your a student. But sell it before tranny or Christmas lights get to you.
I bought that car new back in 08. Put about 90k miles on it before buying a new Audi, but that car was pretty solid. Never had any major issues and the most I ever had to pay to the mechanic was replacing the brakes. I love my new car now but seeing you drive that makes me feel nostalgic. That car treated me well for the years I've owned it.
Last December had a tree fall on my car. Got this boy about a month ago and I actually go on joy rides now and sometimes take the long way home cause I have so much fun with it. Got it for $5500 so all beautiful things.
07k from VW is top notch engineering. Anyone that want's a reliable car, get a 5 cylinder 07k...Easy to work on, parts are cheap. Can start to be a little pricey to get some power out of it, but this engine is tuned down from factory to not compete with other models at the time. I've got roughly 200whp on mine, and that is more than enough for me in this car.
The 2.5l inline 5 produced for these cars was modeled after the Gallardo's 5.0L V10 cut in half. The GTI had the 2.0T and was modeled after the Veyron's 8.0L W16.
I almost got myself a nice VW Rabbit two door hatch for a beater car (I think the newer Rabbits are only 4 door hatchbacks). It was older and had only 70K miles for $4700, but I ended up taking the cheaper route by getting a beat up dented 1996 Toyota Avalon with close to 300K miles for my daily duties. So far it's been hanging tough for the past 8 months. My Mustang GT is my weekend ride. But anyway, the Rabbit was nice when I saw it. Nice car.
@@carsandhobbies well I started with MK4 Jetta. They are a little more pricier compared to most cars labor wise but I get compliments and I’m forever turning heads lol. I’m gearing up for either a 2010 Tiguan or buying Golf R but..that’s just far thinking. These cars are UNDERRATED THEY FAST AF
Got the same car as a daily driver, you'll get a check engine light if you try to change the intake but with a stock gti exhaust it sounds like an r8 lmao
I am thinking of getting this year in the 2.5L engine. The price is $3,500 and it has 130,000 miles. I am getting it from Car Gurus, any advice? Is this a reliable vehicle?
Well of course you want to make sure all the fluids are clean. Definitely flush the coolant that seems to get neglected a lot on these cars. Also check the ball joints and the rest of the front suspension. Other than that it's mostly just regular maintenance.
Just see if you can get any maintenance records from them, the car has been pretty reliable but did have to replace the throttle body and the struts, both were way more expensive than they should be just because the car is German. So keep that in mind
So I heard they reliable in engine and transmisión but does small things break all the time because it’s vw? Like power window or some small stuff not working?
Haven't had any electrical issues or anything. The interior is poor quality though, the headliner is starting to sag, the fabric on the door panels is starting to peel, and the cushions in the seats are lopsided. However, the car still drives great.
@@carsandhobbies thank you man I’m thinking of getting a golf 2.5 manual 2013 with 100k miles for 6k and I was looking for something that won’t break and when it does it won’t be expensive and I think it’s that car, you think that car won’t be trouble and reliable ?
I'd have to disagree for the same price at least in my area the Hondas all had 180k + miles, and their paint was not nice. Also this was bought from an actual VW dealership, I'm sure private party would've been way cheaper. Lastly, this is way more fun to drive than a base Civic, maybe not an SI but those aren't cheap anymore.
@@LMiraculous some do and some don't, the 2.5 in the rabbit is one of the best engines they've made in terms of reliability. VW's do require you to keep up with the maintaince however.
@@carsandhobbies Nice car though. I have a '10 Golf 2 door, 5 speed 2.5L. I put lowering springs and Bilstein shocks and struts on it this summer. Bought it after VW bought back the '11 Golf TDI I bought new.
@@carsandhobbies Cool, they are super efficient. I had a hard time deciding to sell my tdi back. Especially since I did a crazy amount of performance mods - it dyno'd a little over 200 HP on a mustang dyno. I literally waited until the very last day of the buyback period. Miss that car.
That seems like a poor maintenance/poor previous owner/driven hard. The 07k is well known to be very, very reliable, and the Mk5s, while not perfect, don’t have too many issues. The Mk6 Golf is even better!
@@initialyeet3951 Every single VW owner i know has said the same thing about owning a VW. They are terrible cars. Any good mechanic will tell you to stay away from them. Every single thing on the car costs more than on a Japanese or American car. The interior is absolute crap too. Headliner is falling along with door panel fabric. Again, I have never experienced that with any other car.
