In this video I crush some of the gold ore I collected from my dream claim, when I found the underground gold mine hidden on my claim. The cold winter conditions made crushing the ore difficult, but I got it done, and I am very happy with the gold results.

I'm one of those disabled persons who enjoy watching your videos. When I was more mobile, rock hounding was my thing. The Oyster River was one of my favorite places. Nothing like going out on a hot summer day and wading through the crystal clear water looking for pretty rocks. Like you I brought lots of stuff home, so I can continue to enjoy the hobby of lapidary for many years to come.

Dan when it's that cold grab a propane torch and warm up the crankcase on the engine so that the oil is nice and warm and thin before you try to run it so you don't wipe out the rod (they don't have rod bearings) and warm up the cylinder head too and it'll start a lot easier.
@jasonwcoleman250
@jasonwcoleman250 2 года назад
Dan, don't forget there is a lot of turtle under the rabbit. Leaving the throttle near the turtle on a cold engine until it gets some heat in the rings will help with cold starts. Starting any cold engine at full tilt will run dry rings on your cylinders and score the walls resulting in a loss of compression, the long term result is a stubborn engine that needs Cosby sauce and takes time to start..... Love your equipment early and it'll cost you the same time as fixing it later....... Minus the headache and $.
@Danhurd

Before I showed the clip of it starting I ran it fir 10 min. That is why when I actually started it for the run. I could take it off choke right away.

A trick my relative used was double tarp your outside gs engines and leave a shop light in there over night. Might be a good idea to cover with non-flammable covers. The shop light over the engine keeps the engine just a bit warmer. Good Luck!

You're a hard working man, Dan, did well to get that old machine crusher going, and shovel all that snow in the freezing temps. Then the fun part, crushing. And panning in those temps,. You are a braver person than me. Fascinating insight tidbits about ice on the crushed particles in certain conditions. I live in the tropics, have only seen snow a couple times.

Love your videos Dan. I live in western North Carolina. The Appalachian mountains. You are a gentleman and I appreciate your time to help people who are into prospecting. I have a story for you but I cannot share it with people on you tube. It's about a discovery that my father and uncle used to look for back in the 70s. It's about the treasure of gold that the Cherokee Indians hid in the mountains of Easter Tennessee during the trail of tears March to Oklahoma. The Cherokee Indians hid gold in a cave in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee. My uncle grew up there and so did my father in the 1930s. They been in several caves that they collected indian artifacts . There is a ton of Cherokee Indian gold hidden and I know where they were looking. They only looked in the fall when the green plants were dead so they could see what they were looking for. A cave full of Gold. Want to go get rich with me. I'm telling you the truth and the hidd÷n gold of the Cherokee Indians on the March to Oklahoma. The trail of tears. .y uncle and dad didn't have fancy metal detectors back then. I'm telling you the truth .

I would recommend that you run some of the high grade gas in your crusher. It usually comes in 1 gal cans. Good for longer storage. Takes longer to go bad. Good for about a year. I worked on small engines for a couple of years. The biggest problem was modern fuel. Lasts maybe a couple of months and then creates a multitude of problems.

Dan, I've watched before, love what you do and love your upbeat attitude. Always a pleasure and always an enjoyment. I kind of feel like I am on an adventure every time when I am watching your channel. But I must say my friend, if I had a "Main-Stay" piece of equipment like that rock crusher, before first snow, I'd at least put a plastic tarp over it and bungie cord it closed at the bottom. Unless I guess, it aint worth keepin'....;)

You can always add a splash of cheap vodka in the pan for antifreeze. If you put it in your panning basin, you won't have to crack the ice free when it gets cold and won't have to hike to the creek.

what i really want to see is you come here to Sweden and try to find gold. which is a struggle because the ice that covered the land 10.000 years ago grinded it to powder. the gold is here for sure (i have found it several times) but it is a much higher challenge to get it in the pan. get your patreons to bring you here. i will guide you through the endless forests if you wish. you have the best videos and the strongest heart. thank you forthe videos mr hurd.

Dealing with steel blasting media. I've had issues like blowing holes through diverters. I've tried many different metals of all hardness's. The best I've found is welding the surface with a wire feed welder with the average steel wire. So, maybe you could just weld all the chain link surfaces & maybe later, the inside of the barrel.
