LITERALLY what I was hoping we would see from the big brands when smart watches first launched. I don't want a crappy phone on my wrist, I want a WATCH that can also add a couple useful features to my phone. I already have the phone, and I don't need ALL of that same stuff on my wrist - rather just a handful of things that are just logical choices for convenience. Definitely need to check these out, I haven't taken the market seriously in a while
I wanna a phone on my wrist, with possibility to throw away a big one to trash bin. If you need a watches, they r already in the phone, why do you need dedicated ones on a wrist huh?
I see your point and I prefer the design of analog watches too. But if you try a cellular watch it may change your mind. If battery technology improves I can see myself only using my smartwatch and leaving my phone at home.
@Viktor Andy What? I have a Gear S3 Frontier, and never once have I thought "Wow, this would be way better if the screen were rectangular." Circular smart watches work just fine.
I tend to think of my smart watch as a watch first then an additional tool for looking at things like texts and emails. If I want to engage properly with those texts and emails, I go to my phone, laptop or pc. I don't see the watch as a replacement, but a supplement
Either LTT or Shortcircuit but I would love to see a showdown of a bunch of different hybrid smartwatches. I know of 3 brands doing them, maybe there are more but it would be really nice to see. From what I know it would be between Garmin, Withings and Fossil and of course not sponsored by any of them to get proper reviews. I used to use Pebble but those of course are not made anymore and I hate all new normal smart watches and their one maybe two day battery life so would really like to see the pros and cons of all the different hybrid watches to see what ones are the best. Personally using a Fossil hybrid now but am considering a withings or garmin as my next to get a bit more "smart" features and also the fossil app feels a bit clunky, connectivity/syncing is rough at times. Still like my watch in a world of black square watches that don't hardly function as watches I get many compliments on my watch while still getting notification info, music control and step counts.
The Frédérique Constant smart watch is the actual nice one. The Fossil and Withings ones are not exactly nice watches. The Garmin would definitely smash them all in terms of data though
@@draftierinfern0831 Those are also like $1k... Not exactly in the same realm. I know my Fossil is not great compared to proper watch brands but that also isn't what I am going for. Just want a watch that looks fine to the average person that also give me smart(ish) capabilities that is also in a normal person's price bracket.
Been using Withings myself for a couple of years now, and beside the health infos and typical workout montioring was for me the battery life. With many things active and background monitoring, a good battery life span is around 1-2 weeks. If you turn most off or only the defaults, then yes 1 month is pretty easy to get. Love the horizon, will be my next.
How is your phone's battery doing? My phone's battery would die out faster because of the GPS and Bluetooth always needing to be on, otherwise no tracking! Was very frustrating for me..
@@karimalameddine5092 i have most things active, since i do use it for daily workouts, health monitoring, sleep tracking etc. so the use is on the heavier side. It will easily hold around 2 weeks.
@@sgt.vernex6378 horses for courses, personally I love my series 7 apple watch as it does lots of things that yours cant that I personally find useful, for battery life I typically get 36 - 48 hours out of it so taking it off when I sleep to charge is no hardship at all. At the end of the day its the same as any other product in life, buy what suits your needs and wants.
I have a Withings Scanwatch for almost a year now and it's crazy to think that I only have charged it 10 times. The "normal" scanwatch isn't more expensive than others well known models from Apple or Samsung and the rounded design is actually very comfortable to wear all day. They also have a cheaper model without the screen which can also monitor ECG for those who don't need the notifications and small infos
I actually bought this watch recently after i developed more serious issues with my heart on top of the issues i already have. I'm 28 and I was born with a rare heart defect that basically left me with half of a heart, and another defect that affected blood flow to my lungs to pick up oxygen. So having a medically validated ECG and oximeter on my wrist while disguised as a normal watch was pretty much what i was looking for. My biggest criticism is that the heart rate gets confused if you are doing any sort of weight lifting which is super minor but if that matters to you, might be a deal breaker. Cardio was pretty decent though. (yeah i know dude with heart issues weight lifting? i got the ok from my cardiologist with reasonable weight restrictions)
in the video, they said something about sending the data away for validation. how long does the ecg take to get results? does it need to be any faster for it to be useful?
@@litapd311 the ECG is immediate. You let the watch run for 30 seconds (can’t move etc.) and it tells you if you have a regular heart beat right away. It can also run automatically while you sleep. This is less exact of a reading, I believe, but it detects arrhythmias without you having to do anything. I was made aware of an arrhythmia because the app would send me notifications in the mornings, telling me my heart beat was irregular during the night. Really nifty and medically accurate enough to warrant seeing a doctor.
@@litapd311 It's immediate after you set it up. When you do your very first ECG it could take a day or 2, when i did it, it only took like an hour or so before i got the results back. After that, the results show up in less than a minute.
Please make sure to cover what type of charging they support. I've owned 3x fitbits and all of them the brass contracts corroded, and because they are recessed, can't be cleaned easily, and become garbage. Manufactured obselecence at its finest.
I'm actually going to get one of these watches here in the UK. One of the main selling points for me is that the constant health monitoring of HR, ECG, and spO2 can be downloaded as a file. This enables me to provide it to my doctor if I see irregularities.
my mom got a samsung phone and a galaxy watch, exclusively because she has heart problems and wanted to use the ECG. shes a nurse and saw a couple of people walk in with a watch saying "hey this thing is beeping and tells me im dying, please check me out" and it actually saved their lives. Cool to see that watches like this are an option, because she definetly does not use most of the other features of the watch and is annoyed with the battery life.
the mi band lineup is pretty good in that regard because unlike the withings it does not cost half a rack. it also has a battery life or around 3 to 5 weeks depending on the use
Yeah unfortunately these watches basically only diagnose 1 type of arrhythmia out of the 5 that exist though. I had a Galaxy watch and it would say things were wrong but then id go to the hospital and it turns out the watch was just not that accurate. Hospital told me to not even use it since it just gave me anxiety so it all depends. It can be useful but it's nowhere near a foolproof way to assume you're fine or not. Real medical equipment that is tested often is the only real solution right now.
@@halsti99 Paroxysmal AF then I assume, I can see it being useful for tracking episodes, but I wouldn't trust it as a diagnostic tool. I suppose people with SVT might benefit from it, though generally they already know when they're in SVT.
I've had my Scanwatch for some time now and I love it. What's impressed me the most is they are incredibly robust. I have a habit of destroying watches but the sapphire glass, water resistance and high quality construction has kept it not only working but still looking great. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it.
i envy people who can wear metal bands watches, every time i try one on the hair on my wirst get stuck and pulled and it's super annoying, for me it's the leather really. and i couldn't agree more on the fact that i want a smart watch, not a small smart device that happens to have a watch app.
Sounds like you are just trying out very cheap metal bands. As a fellow hairy wristed guy I only have issues with my cheaper watch bands like on my Casio. All my $100+ watches don't have that issue, for me at least. And these include several Chinese "homage" watches that fall into the $100-200 Canadian price range.
Even with Linus doing the read, the energy of this video looks and feels like an ad. It's super static, long shots that looks contractually obligated, and just a dead set. I know it's sponsored but it's not a hostage situation.
Thought the same. I haven’t seen the sponsored part in the first seconds and was really confused with the style of this video. Even for a shortcircuit video I expect a little bit more, than just the PR talk. Especially with Linus wearing an Apple Watch for many years, although he uses android, just because he was so annoyed of Android watches. This felt just rushed and not to the normal standard of sponsored content…
I have loved my scanwatch for nearly a year now. Withings are amazing. Sleep sensor that sits under the bed, blood pressure with ecg and digital stethoscope, and a temperature recorder. They're amazing, and it's hard to think I could ever go back.
i have been using a a scan watch for almost a year. had to order internationally because it was not available in the us for a long time while the FDA (i think) cleared it. love the battery life and thats what really pushed me to get it. one note, i have the 42mm black and silver and the hands do glow in the dark, don't know if the other colors or the smaller 38mm ones do though.
The FDA should have never cleared it. They collect your health data, transmit it over the internet, store it on their servers, and then sell it to advertisers -- and of course, there's no way to opt out. There's no way to actually use the smart health functionality without giving them all your data either.
@@5urg3x Like any other smartwatch that you connect to your phone - apple watch, google watch, all the Garmin ones... Out of all these - Withings is the best because it is based in Europe where privacy laws are by far the most strict.
he very obviously was not allowed to mention or compare it to an Apple Watch due to it being a sponsored episode. Would be cool to see an actual review of this comparing it to other brands.
Well not much to compare tbh. An apple watch (especially the LTE) versions are more like small smartphones rather then watches. Battery life on this is better obviously. But due to the small screen size and lack of touch screen functionality, the Apple watch can be considered more feature rich. They both come with the same suit of sensors, with both being clinically validated, so there should be no difference there. The Scanwatch is more of a classic watch with some smart features, while the Apple watch is what most would consider an actual smart watch. I personally prefer the Withings rather than an Apple watch, as I just don't see myself being all that more productive with the availability of a small touch screen, while the battery life in it self is a huge plus. The screen on the Withings shows notifications, caller ID and some small info like weather. What you should get depends on your use case and preferences
Have had my scan watch for 7 months now. I love it. Battery life is A+, lasting more than a week on a single charge. The ECG function actually helped me recognize an arrhythmia, which got fixed earlier this year as a result. Can positively say that having the scan watch was instrumental in significantly improving my quality of life. Really solid product.
Yeah, because all of these health features are on the Apple Watch, and they don’t have a questionable 24-48 hour timeframe where your results go to god knows where for their inevitably shady data collection purposes before getting to the companion phone app.
I literally requested this video two weeks ago on the forum... and Withings did a sponsoring right now. What a nice timing. I also use this watch for around three months now and I am really happy about it. Best tech-product since a very long time. It does exactly what you want and nothing more.
I love watches like this, I have been using a Fossil Hybrid for a while, and it can control my music, volume, and show me notifications and steps. all from an analog form factor. I have a gen 1 that I have been using for 5 years now and not an issue.
You should do the Garmin Fenix 7x Sapphire. Sapphire solar glass, 25-30 day battery, fitness tracking, all the gps/glonass with maps on your wrist (with offline support), full color touch screen, and a freaking actual flashlight. I haven’t looked back since I got it. Oh and things like music and garmin pay. Expensive as heck though.
They should review any of the Fenix series. They're all great watches. The smallest size takes a battery life hit but it still gets around 20 days, i think.
Hey Nebraskan here and our motto is "honestly, it's not for everyone" and we feel that. If you know us we are amazingly nice and polite people. But most just see open spaces and corn. Lol
I always thought it would be cool to see a smart watch with that electrically controlled frosted glass that goes opaque or transparent depending on the charge applied to it. Turn “off” the screen and see a traditional watch mechanism underneath. Turn “on” the screen and its a fully functional OLED on top of it. Maybe combined with that transparent oled tech that could be cool. Apple will never do this though.
The larger scanwatch does actually have glow in the dark hands. Have been using it for a year, a really good product. Though I have noticed that the crown pushes into your wrist when you bend your hand backwards, which sometimes activates the display. Withings replaced it for me too when the crown started acting up. Customer service was great.
I've had a Withings for a few years and honestly my favourite thing is touching down in a different time zone, turning off airplane mode and watching the hands auto adjust.
I actually was just researching this & got my own Withings Steel HR earlier this week! It's been great so far & it's cool to see LMG covering them as well
Love withings watches. I bought one three years ago, simply because it has amazing battery life, shows the time, and can be read in complete darkness (with the small backlit display).
This looks pretty cool maybe a bit too big for a dress watch but still neat, especially with the 30 day battery. It's one of the reasons I went for a Galaxy Fit 2, because it lasts about a week and a half on one charge, I am not ready for charging my watch everyday.
I had a Samsung smart watch once when I did a bike tour across the Alps. It literally only lasted half a day, couldn't tell the time in the absolute bright light of the sun and showed a pulse of 230bpm when I actually had a high pulse, but no where near 230. I switched to my regular watch on day 2 and never wore that junk again. I really like the idea of having a reliable watch that will work and I don't have to charge it, but it has the nice features of a smart watch. Good that you do these kind of sponsors to shout out actually good tech.
2 things and the watch will become perfection 1 fixing the colourway, the display stands out so I think black would be better than blue or green and NFC is a must on smart watches
Withing is a great brand. I used to use their watch but I prefer a full smart watch. Their scale though I use daily. It has great data points and syncs with apple and/or Google health.
I very much like my Fossil Hybrid watch. Looks like a great watch, secretly connected to your phone. It doesnt have a screen, but you can see what notification you got by the dial pointing, and have 3 buttons to interact with the phone. Start/Stop media is my personal favorite. Lasts about a year for cell battery. This Withings Hybrid looked neat, but not quite the upgrade I was interested in.
I've had their watch brands for a while they're honestly great and would reccomend it. This watch doesn't bother you throughout the day. Also it can provide notifications if you wish, messages and calls. Personally I have it set up for calls. The battery life is legit, 30days and more when it goes into power save mode.
With the confirmation of the Pixel watch (and being an avid member of the Google ecosystem) I'm hoping that it comes with the upgrades we expect. I've never owned a high-end smart watch and I hope to get into it sometime soon
Google really has a chance here to set an example, a new benchmark, of what a smartwatch should be. I've not bitten the bullet yet because every watch available seems like some compromise.
The pixel watch is garbage. It's already confirmed to have a 4 year old (or 6?) chip. It also is quite tiny so don't expect good battery life. I'm gonna straight away assume it doesn't have many health features either. If you want an android smartwatch that's good then get a samsung one. Stop relying on google for anything - they're only good at hyping things up and not delivering.
@@propersod2390 Jesus that really struck a chord for you, didn't it? Rumours and speculation go a long way, but assuming the processor is indeed outdated, perhaps the watch is optimised for that particular processor. In this case, there is no need to go for a more powerful one as this could lead to a higher cost, with more poor battery performance. Regardless, it is exactly that...speculation. we can't tell for certain, especially considering how the product is to be launched much later down the line; things may change. But what I want to know is how this is so pressing for you. It may be a terrible product by comparison. Samsung may be better. But I just wanted to express my interest in the product: is that too much of a problem? You don't like Google products, fine (or at least the watch in particular), but does that authorise you to belittle my contrasting appreciation?
@@Muscleduck I'm afraid that Google setting a benchmark might not happen at all. Their products always kinda sucks when compared to the competition, save for a Pixel phone or the Google Home assistants. They could at least innovate on the format and set this benchmark by offering a different view of the smartwatch, kinda difficult since Google isnt trying to break paradigms but rather following trends with a tiny "google twist". At least that's what I see following them all these years. Said so, I'd love to see Google succeeding on it and creating a new standard smartwatch, but my hopes are actually zero lol
@@JamesLikesCoffee Bro its not speculation. It is according to reputable sources. And when it comes to google those sources are almost always right. You do realize someone already HAD the pixel watch in public right? And there was an ebay listing for it? 😂😂 But sure, you can be dense if you want. The watch WILL suck and its a waste of money.
I've been wearing withings watches for like 5 years at this point originally a steel and since last year a steel hr and I absolutely love the semi smart watch life
The thing I love the most about my Withings watches is that I can turn the ringer on my phone off and set the phone to not vibrate and let the watch notify me with the vibrate feature, this even works to wake me up in the morning and I am a notoriously hard to wake up.
My wife has had a previous gen Withings analogue watch with no screen for a few years now. She wants to track her steps but for work can't have (and doesn't really want) anything distracting on her wrist. The battery needs changing (not charging) about every 9 months. Hybrid watches are brilliant
I'm not sure if LTT or ShortCircuit have looked at the TicWatch Pro, but based on this it definitely seems like you'd be interested. Particularly in regards to battery life, you get 3 days on a single charge with regular smartwatch mode and a month if you set it to essential. In essential it turns off most of the smartwatch features, but it still does heartrate tracking, sleep tracking, etc. They managed to get such "good" (compared to pretty much every other smartwatch) battery life by running two displays. One is your full fat smartwatch display and the other is a low power digital watch display that it swaps to when you're not actively using the smartwatch.
Small correction: the scan watch black white 42mm actually has glow in the dark watch hands! it's one of the reasons I upgraded from my steel HR. Also the scanwatch has interchangeable wristbands. I picked up a steel one for like 25 on Amazon and I have been wearing it for years. Also the app and ease of connectivity is years ahead of any competition. I got my gf a fossil one and while it works fine, it just ain't the same (she likes the look though)
Withings is a HORRIBLE company. They collect your health data and sell it. Shocked you did a sponsorship with them. Really disappointed. Also no mention in the video at all about data privacy or the fact that they require you to put your health data on their servers in order to use the basic functionalities of this thing (as well as all of their other health based products). If you're going to track my personal data and sell it, then you need to either explicitly be up front about it, and discount your product accordingly, or you need to pay me for the data that I'm providing, or give me a way to opt out.
I’m a massive watch fan. I’ve owned over 10 Swiss watches from a Tag Heuer, to a Rolex, a Hamilton, an Omega, an IWC, and finally a Tudor Black Bay. I really like the look of traditional watches, so this looks perfect for what I would want in a smart watch. It has the perfect mix of traditional and technological features without being a big screen. I love that dive watch aesthetic and a proper 100m specification to go with it too. Great video guys. Withings is definitely on my list.
I genuinely love hybrid watches and smart bands. They're a much better fit for what I want from a smart accessory. I don't need "a phone, just worse, on your wrist". I need something that tells me the time, gives me notifications, and keeps track of my steps. And hybrids just work best for that. Now if only Casio could release a hybrid Casio Retro I would be a happy camper.
What I would like to see mainstream/boutique watch makers made hybrid watches, I mean imagine a hybrid watch made by Omega, Carl F Bucherer, Breitling, Seiko, IWC, Rolex etc.
I've been using Withings watches for years (I have 2) and they are the best. I'm planning to buy a third. With no GPS they are still very accurate in measuring distances and very good at recognizing the activity, sometimes scary how it knows what I'm doing. Some downsides that the app can randomly log you out, the cheap Withing Move watch has a bit soft plexy glass which scratches easily and sometimes when I drive it adds to my steps. Otherwise highly recommended watches.
I actually bought one of these around 5 years ago, and it worked pretty well at first, although nowadays it doesn’t charge. I really love that there are some more traditional looking smart watches, it just has some class to it that you just can’t get with an Apple Watch (even though they do look great)
Linus, try Garmin fenix 7 line. Just got fenix 7 saphire solar, month ago, and it's amazing. Long battery life, very accurate health metrics, good insights in your training and recovery, stress and so on. After using Samsung sporty smartwatch for 4 generations in a row, I am shocked by how smart this watch can also be. And on top of that, it no longer look like a tank. Just a rugged ish style above medium size watch. The display allows you to see time anytime of day easy same as analog would. For someone as you who is also doing a lot of sports, I think it would be great.
I’ve had mine for about a month now and I love it. I typically wear it during the week for work. Some times on weekends with the blue band. For workouts and sleep, I use my Apple Watch. Why? Tracks stuff better, and to sleep it’s lighter. For what I need and use, it’s a combination that I like. I wish I could pull up notifications whenever I wanted. Now, if I don’t catch the notification when I comes in, I can’t go back later and see it. Also, it would be nice if I could make purchases using the watch (that’s not going to happen with Apple Pay I’m pretty sure). I just need to get used to carrying my phone more often.
I had the regular scanwatch and while I love the concept it's just not there yet. Sleep tracking doesn't know if you're asleep or just in bed. I read a long time in bed before sleeping, or if I've woken up stressed and can't sleep... it would always say great sleep of 9 solid hours. I also think the display is a bad shape and just too small to understand notifications as they scroll. An oval shape would be much better. Then the back started falling off. They offered a replacement but I didn't bother.
I think the best "smart" watch that I have ever used and still use is the Fossil Hybrids. I first bought the communter which just moved the dial for when you got a notification and some other things, i only replace the battery once a year. I also got the new Hybrid which has a dial and a LCD screen. It has a customizable background and you can put different modules that can tell temp, day, or battery perecent and stuff. The battery life is also around 2 weeks which is really nice, especially since it charges in like 20 min. Thats been my go to recommendation for "smart" watches.
I have the Steel HR, one of its early versions, released even under Nokia brand (they bought it) before deciding to continue as Withings. Also a hybrid smartwatch. Have it for about 3 years and the longevity of the battery is still at 3 weeks (and I have it monitor my BPM during daily long walks). Old version has no saturation and ecg but i still recommend it. Great watch.
As someone who owns this watch, it's great! Only downside is that notifications are kinda jank but I mostly use it to see who I'm getting an email/dm from and whether it is worth actually opening my phone to check the body
Withings is great. Had their watch before they got purchased by Nokia, it got damaged (my fault), bought a Nokia one, which I lost on a trip. Now withings is their own company again, I have a withings watch again. Love it.
Would love them looking at the Fossil Hybrid HR watched. Linus has mentioned hole left by Pebble in the market (they were great 😭) and the Hybrids are rocking that epaper display
I've been looking for a good hybrid watch. I just want some data analytics for health but I don't need to run something like Spotify on my watch. It's too slow anyways so this looks amazing!
As a wearer of a "dumb watch" that's relatively heavy. I absolutely love this. I have not adopted a smart watch because 99% of the time, I just want to know the time when i look at it, so the analogue watch face really appeals to me.
there are different watch faces for smart watches that only show time. The benefit on some display types is that a "dumb" watch face can improve battery life quite a bit because it updates less often.
Battery life is super portant for me as well. After my last fenix died I tried one of the Samsung watches and oh boy, was that one annoying. Barely 1 day on a charge, it was kinda "waterproof", etc I switched back to garmin fenix 6 and I'm loving it. 14 days on 1 charge (without logging trainings) , up to 50 when in battery saving mode. I usually get 1 week out of it, logging 1 exercise every day. It's a win for me. Although, this Scanwatch look pretty awesome as well 👌
I bought the regular scan watch after years using the SteelHR model. I am super satisfied with withings. I am happy to see some more coverage of their products
I got the whoop recently. I'm not an athlete but spent a lot of my days being overweight. Been under 170 for many years and it's so easy to crrep over. Sleep tracking is a big thing for me. Whoop is either you move and do something or your strain is always the same. Been two months with it and I force myself to do more and it's legit made me change some things. Even stopped eating as much. It'd be cool if one of you tried it out for a month or two. It's a great product if you truly want to be healthy be it activity or sleep. Edit: not for everyone. To many I'd assume it's useless. For me it's been awesome(subscription not so much)I'm not a fanboy. Just curious the LTT take.
