Yeah, Secret Lovers is definitely about cheating. The female lead singer here is Barbara Weathers, who replaced the original female lead, Sharon Bryant. Have you ever reacted to the any of their earlier music (early 80s) from the original band? Atlantic Starr had some great songs. If you haven't heard any of these, will you please react to the following: • Send for Me • Am I Dreaming? • Let's Get Closer • When Love Calls • Circles • Love Me Down • Your Love Finally Ran Out

A very secret reaction 🤫! I see 👁👁 that you have reacted to Atlantic Starr before: Touch A Four Leaf Clover. Secret Lovers was the fourth single released from Atlantic Starr's 1985 album: As The Band Turns. It was written and produced by David Lewis and Wayne Lewis. The song reached #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart, #3 on the Hot 100 and #4 on the R&B chart. The music video for "Secret Lovers" was shot without backing from the group's record label A&M Records, which had recently dropped Atlantic Starr on the grounds of lackluster music sales. The group's lead singer Barbara Weathers has publicly expressed her disdain for the music video. The song: Secret Lovers, was sung as a duet between Atlantic Starr members Barbara Weathers and David Lewis. Secret Lovers is the story of a man and a woman who are having an affair with each other even though they are both married to other people. Although they know their actions are wrong and are forced to keep their relationship secret as a result, they love each other too much to let the affair end. They also justify the affair by trying to convince themselves that maybe their spouses have their own "secret lovers" as well. In 2008, Usher sampled the song for his hit single: "Love In This Club Part II", which features Beyoncé and Lil Wayne. In 2008, the song was covered by Alexander O'Neal ft Mica Paris and released as the first single from his album: Alex Loves... . Lyrics 🗒: Here we are the two of us together Taking this crazy chance to be all alone We both know that we should not be together 'Cause if they found out It could mess up, both our happy homes I hate to think about us all meeting up together As soon as I looked at you it would show on my face Then they'll know that we've been loving each other They can never no, oh no, we can't leave a trace Secret Lovers that's what we are, we shouldn't be together But we can't let it go, oh no, cause we love each other so Sittin at home I do nothing all day But think about you and hope that your ok Hoping you'll call before anyone gets home I'll wait anxiously, alone by the phone How could something so wrong be so right I wish we didn't have to keep our love out of sight Living two lives just ain't easy at all But we gotta hang on and after fall Secret lovers that's what we are Trying so hard to hide the way we feel Cause we both belong to someone else But we can't let it go, cause what we feel is oh so real So real You and me, are we fair Is this cruel, or do we care Can they tell what's in our minds Maybe they've had secret love all of the time In the middle of makin love we notice the time We both get nervous cause it's way after nine Even though we hate it, we know it's time that we go We gotta be careful, so that no one will know Secret lovers, that's what we are Trying so hard to hide the way we feel 'Cause we both belong to someone else But we can't let it go 'Cause what we feel is oh so real Atlantic Starr Info 📰: Atlantic Starr formed in Greenburgh, New York in 1974 with trumpeter Duke Jones (who left the band prior to their first recordings), Porter Carroll Jr (drummer), Clifford Archer (bass guitar), Joseph Phillips (flute, percussions), Sheldon Tucker (guitar; parted ways with the band before the first recordings), David Lewis (vocals/guitar), Wayne Lewis (keyboards and vocals), and Jonathan Lewis (percussion and trombone). The band's membership eventually stabilized around Porter Carroll Jr, Clifford Archer, Joseph Phillips, David Lewis, Wayne Lewis, Jonathan Lewis, Sharon Bryant (lead singer- who was later replaced by Barbara Weathers), William Sudderth III (trumpet) and Damon Rentie (saxophone- who was later replaced by Koran Daniels). In 1977, the band came to Westwood, California and performed on the nightclub scene under the name: "Newban", which they agreed to change at the request of A&M Records executive Herb Alpert when they were signed. Having already agreed to keep the Starr part of an early idea for a new band name, the members decided to add the word Atlantic, because of their East Coast roots. The nine-member band were now A&M employees. Throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, Atlantic Starr scored several hits on the R&B charts. However, significant crossover success onto the pop charts did not come until halfway into the 1980s, with the release of their album: As The Band Turns, which was their final album on A&M Records, and the single "Secret Lovers". By this time, the band had pared itself down to a quintet, consisting of David Lewis, Wayne Lewis, Jonathan Lewis, Joseph Phillips and Barbara Weathers. In 1987, after signing to Warner Bros Records, the band solidified their pop success by scoring a No. 1 pop (and R&B) hit with the song: "Always", a love ballad off their album: All In The Name Of Love. Following this success, Barbara Weathers left for a solo career, and she was replaced by Porscha Martin for the band's next album in 1989: We're Movin' Up. Although this album was not quite as successful as its predecessors, it did produce another No. 1 R&B hit with the song: "My First Love". The band continued to score hits on both the R&B and Pop charts into the early 1990s. 1991 saw the introduction of yet another new female lead singer, when Porscha Martin was replaced by Miss Black America 1986, Rachel Oliver, for the album: Love Crazy. This album featured the band's biggest hit of the 1990s with the song: "Masterpiece", reaching No. 3 on both the pop and R&B charts in early 1992. The group toured to Japan in 1992 with yet another female vocalist at the helm, Crystal Blake, a studio vocalist for Stevie Wonder who had also sung the female lead parts on the minor hit title track for Eddie Murphy's album: How Could It Be, and Young MC's Grammy Award winning song: "Bust A Move". Following the release of their 1991 album: Love Crazy, Atlantic Starr's relationship with Warner Bros Records dissolved, and in 1994, the band recorded one album for Arista Records: Time. That album was a commercial disappointment and the single: "I'll Remember You", only made it to the fifties on Billboard's R&B and pop singles charts. Time, which was David Lewis' last album with the band, found a fifth female singer: Aisha Tanner, replacing Rachel Oliver, who had joined the group for their "Time" album recording. When the group's 1999 album: Legacy, which was distributed by the independent record label: Street Solid Records, Atlantic Starr unveiled yet another group lineup change- one that consisted of two Lewis Brothers (Wayne and Jonathan) as well as lead singer Rachel Oliver who had returned and replaced Aisha Tanner and a new male singer named DeWayne Woods. Although Legacy received little attention, Atlantic Starr still continued to tour and perform their music live on stage. In 2012, TV One produced an Unsung episode on the band Atlantic Starr. In 2017, the group released their 14th album: Metamorphosis, featuring singers L'john Epps and Melessa Pierce. Atlantic Starr still performs their music live on stage in 2024 with a band lineup consisting of: Wayne Lewis, Jonathan Lewis, Shammah Carter and Melessa Pierce. Miscellaneous Notes 🗃: In 1986, the band performed the movie title soundtrack song for the film: Armed And Dangerous, starring John Candy, John Levy, Robert Loggia and Meg Ryan. Original group saxophonist Damon Rentie went on to a solo career of his own, releasing his first solo album: Designated Hitter in 1985. His second and third solo albums followed in each successive year- 1986 and 1987, respectively. He had also previously done session work with the singing group DeBarge. Original trumpeter William Sudderth continues to follow an active schedule in the music business, performing in many diverse settings and having become one of the most sought-after horn players in the music industry. After leaving Atlantic Starr, original drummer and founding bandmember Porter Carroll Jr released a self-titled solo album (Porter Carroll II) in 1986. This album featured contributions from several prominent musicians, including Marcus Miller, David Sanborn, and former Starr bandmate Sharon Bryant. He has continued to do session work since that time, and is currently playing percussion in Daryl Hall's live band. Following her exit from Atlantic Starr, singer Sharon Bryant embarked on a solo career and released an album in 1989, scoring several big hits on the R&B charts, as well as a minor Pop hit from the project entitled: Let Go (#2 R&B, #34 Hot 100), as well as the charting singles: Foolish Heart (#7 R&B, #90 Hot 100) and Body Talk (# 38 R&B). In 1990 Barbara Weathers left the group to pursue a solo career releasing her debut solo album in 1990 on Reprise Records. The LP got to No. 18 on the UK Blues & Soul Hiplist chart. Music & Media called the LP "a big, squeaky clean production" with "a singer of charm and variety in Barbara Weathers". While the album was not as successful in America, the album song: "The Master Key", rose to No. 13 on the R&B chart in America. She later appeared on Big Daddy Kane's 1990 album: Taste Of Chocolate (Keep 'Em On The Floor) and Paul Jackson Jr's 1993 album: A River In The Desert (If I Go Away). Barbara Weathers' 1995 album: Seeing For The Very First Time, was issued solely in Japan. In 2011, Barbara Weathers released her third album: Satisfaction Guaranteed. Barbara Weathers is also a member of Jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum's band. ****CONTINUE BELOW****

This song is beautiful although the lyrics are about cheating. They sound great and the lyrics are ones that many can relate to I'm sure..past or present...I don't condone cheating but I love vulnerability in songs They sound just as if not better love than the recorded album version. Classic 80s song..
