Macbeth (2010): Shot on location in the mysterious underground labyrinth of Welbeck Abbey in Nottinghamshire, this is a contemporary presentation of Shakespeare’s intense, claustrophobic and bloody drama.
Recently honoured with a highly prestigious Peabody Award, the film is based on the Chichester Festival Theatre production of the play that enjoyed sell-out runs in the West End and on Broadway. Patrick Stewart won Best Actor and Rupert Goold Best Director in the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for the stage production and both Patrick Stewart and Kate Fleetwood were nominated for Tony Awards for their performance.
Director of the critically-acclaimed plays, ENRON and American Pyscho, Rupert Goold has been described as ‘the hottest, most exciting director around’, and Macbeth is his debut as a film director. When the film was screened by the BBC December in 2010, the critics were unanimous in their enthusiastic praise.

Patrick Stewart is a marvellous actor and MacBeth is a timeless tale of a man’s ultimate descent into darkness. Quite a powerful combination. 🌹

This production was overall middling, but Sir Patrick Stewart’s performance is absolutely incredible. Several of my all-time favourite deliveries of lines in Macbeth are his.

WOW. Shakespeare was never meant to be read it was meant to be seen like this. He was a PLAYWRITE. So reading it from a book in school it didnt mean anything but seeing people like Patrick do this it brings it to life and you can see what is being said eve though i dont actually understand some of it. It makes sense

10000% he embodies what Shakespeare envisioned wholeheartedly in my opinion when he performs these. Its not pure reading, nor acting but actual embodiment of every word and feeling William meant to convey written or not. And its because he does that even the most difficult to understand lines make some sense.

It's even better because Sir Stewart knows what he's saying.

honestly, nobody, but nobody does Shakespeare quite like Sir Patrick Stewart. He could read sonnet after sonnet, perform solo plays and the like and he'd do each with such feeling, conviction and ease. What a treat!!!!! Thank You!!!!!!

Thank you so much for this, these words, written in ... ~1620? How beautiful our English language can be, just as lovely as french in the hands of such a master, sure there's branagh and sir Ian McKellen, etc but this is the most expressive I've seen for this, it's just spectacular, thank you sir you've brought so much joy to so many!
