actually, newer anime is more tamed and older anime is either darker or more out of pocket because people are more SENSATIVE now in 2010+ So any show before 2010 tends to be crazier and holds nothing back. (BUT, im ngl, it is what I honestly feel makes anime unique and different, and I prefer people dont judge it as too much or out of pocket if possible.) P.S. the version of code geass you found is actually censored A BIT because they removed/edited out the Pizza Hut logo in the episodes, which is ICONIC to code geass.

@@mufi35 were the parts after season 1 & 2 any good? i heard bad things so i never watched it out of fear of it ruining the main series. the ending for season 2 was just too perfect so i figured any continuation was just a bad mark on the series but i would like to be wrong about that. oh had to add this i dont need a summary or anything i dont want you guys to spoil it for my man here just tell me if you saw it and if you think its good or not after season 2. i dont need details i dont want to be spoiled either.

Btw, as repeated like 10 times by the characters, Lelouch and the other students are Britannians, not Japanese (Suzaku is Japanese though). I mean, Lelouch's name is even french (lamperouge= red lamp), how could he be Japanese. Some Britannians just live in Japan, as colonisers I guess.

If their name is Japanese then they are Japanese.... if their name is English or British or French or European sounding, then its Britannian. Lelouch... Rival .... Nunnaly... Clovis... - since they sound Western, then its Britannian. Suzaku... Nagata... - Japanese sounding.

Lelouch is a britannian But not just a random dude the end of this episode already give away his true identity but don't worry It can be confusing when you're watching it for the first time and in future episodes you'll get more of his back story. watch it with japanese. It does not matter if english is also good as dub but the original will always be more immersive and will sound how it should be. The english dub always carries some ,,noise" which feels weird

Yay Geass! What A ride. Context but not spoiler since it is never fully talked about in the show: Code Geass is an Alternate History/Sci-Fi setting. The revolution in the US lost/ never happened and so remained within the British Empire, however, Napolean still rose to power in Europe, and (possibly thanks to the Royal Navy being busy in the Americas) Napoleon successfully invaded Great Britain, as a result the Royal family escaped to America and that became the locus of the Britannian empire. Yes Lelouch is Britannian should have already been clear but your misunderstanding is understandable for episode 1, it’ll become perfectly clear by episode 2-3. 7:50 normal for the “Britanian students” Britannia students live within the main colonial city of Britannia, the remaining Japanese/11’s live in the ghettos and ruins that resulted from the war of conquest 10:00 yeah Code Geass holds up well, If there are any complaints about style its not that its “old”, it would be that it is so “unique” that it looks different from both shows of the same period and newer ones, but that distinctive style might actually be a strength that has helped it stay relevant 29:15 “older anime more tame” lol, Lmao even. The more violent and mature subject matter of anime is one of the things that caused it to stand out from Western cartoons from the very beginning. However, I would say that older shows do tend to have less shock value Gore/Violence that is there for nothing but the shock value. In these older shows the violence tends to serve a purpose to a greater cause/ story. Though for Geass episode one the motive to give the first episode a good hook is obviously present. Glad it worked on you. Also Finally I'm a DUB fan Geass Dub is excellent. Though in reality, both versions are good.

The only reason I am not all in on the dub is that JP has Wakamoto as the Emperor. Other than that it is the perfect amount of ham and cheese the dub gives all the way

@@BlazeEmerald YEah I am normally a sub supporter(Japan has a wide and deep talent of voice actors after all), but I go for the Dub every time when I think it is genuinely better. For Full Metal Alchemist and Yu Yu Hakusho, I think the case is clearly in the Dub's favor. For Geass, I also think the DUb is better but the margin is slim to the point the experience is roughly equal either way. I've seen both versions, both are good, with great emotions for the characters and neither grates. That said overall the Dub still gives me things the Sub doesn't here, especially with more minor characters

Yes, yes! Code Geass is that rare show that's actually gorgeously dubbed. The actor who voiced Lelouch in english is Johnny Yong Bosch, very talented VA, couple of scenes litererally made me cry because of him. You may also know him from other shows and games, as example Nero from Devil May Cry. Have a good time.

Both dub and sub for Code Geass is superb, but I personally recommend watching it in dub on your first watch through mainly because Code Geass is an extremely information dense anime. And you're likely to miss important things if you're not super focused on subtitles.

You've seen Death Note and I remember that you've already watched a mecha anime so here's one that sort of has a mix between the two - smart characters battling with wits and robots (and magic powers!). Hope you enjoy the rest of the series! Lelouch's name is pronounced "Lulush" hence one of his friend's nickname for him is "Lulu". He's Britannian and the school shown here earlier is a Britannian school and since he's wearing their school uniform, others know he's Britannian.

When it comes to dub vs sub it tends to depend on what version was watched first. Shows like Fullmetal Alchemist, Code Geass, Cowboy Bebop came out in a time when most series were seen dubbed. With streaming it became much easier to see it earlier subbed and dubbed shows can sometimes be hit or miss. I've seen Code Geass in both sub and dub and both are great so it's up to you, but the dub is one of the greats of the time.

I'll TLDR my comment from the Patreon video, Love this anime it's my #1 Seen it many times, I prefer the Dub over sub especially now that my eyes are pretty badly damaged and I struggle with reading subtitles now. I thought it will be RU-vid reaction since it’s like two scenes of nudity. Also it has so good ending, I think best ending I’ve watched (I’m not a huge fan of AOT ending - it was ok but nothing really amazing). Also this series is made anime only, and from what I’ve watched, it’s the best one. Also it is a Pizza Hut’s best ad. Also 10/10

Brittania is basically the US with British flavouring, with the imperialism turned up to 11. Lelouch was a Brittanian prince, hence the bit at the end.

Sadly, I really hated the English dub actually, mainly because Johnny Yong Bosch (who I USUALLY really like ever since his Guy in Tales of Abyss) didn't seem to get correct voice directions. So his personality ends up being very different from the original at times. For example, in a scene where a classmate teases him about liking a girl, in Japanese he responds nonchalantly (since obviously he wouldn't care about that, especially while he has a million more important things going on in his mind), but in English he responded annoyed/flustered. Same sentence, but very different delivery, and thus, personality. Him being annoyed or embarassed by such a comment is out of character for him. And there were a few EN performances that I flat out thought were really bad, even for EN standards (in Japan every voice actor has gone to voice acting school, while in the west they typically get into voice acting by responding to an ad for the role), and then of course there's the fact that certain lines are written due to how they SOUND in Japanese, which doesn't work in English. (Eren's famous "ta-ta-ka-e" turned into just "fight" in English, which doesn't have the same ring to it since its 1 syllable, instead of 4) but I won't get deep into that since people who like it in English anyway despite all that typically aren't noticing the differences. And that's great for them. I wish I could. (I also love Yuri Lowenthal, but I did not enjoy his Suzaku here). As long as they love the series, like you do, then no harm.

I'm glad that I see less & less people posting lines like "Unlike other mecha shows, this one focuses more on the character!". That is such a nothing statement which only highlight that the people who said it have never watched a good deal of mecha shows from beginning to end. Either that or they really have skewed view towards the mecha genre.

A little backstage stuff: Sunrise, famous for Gundam, etc. told the staff to make whatever, so long as it had mecha kits to merchandise til the fans wallets ran dry. Also, the anime industry was going through a high-school drama phase so whatever they made must have to be in a school setting. So there's the underlying bones, mecha fights and schoolkids.

yo i didnt think he would react to this. its not as popular as it used to be but this show has stayed in my top 10 for a long time. this show is great and it has a good ending unlike most shows. someone probably already said this but yes lelouch is britanian hes not japanese i wont go into further details bc spoilers tho.

@@kingdaniel3519 for real? i didnt watch anything past season 2 bc i didnt want the ending to be ruined and i heard the rest wasnt that good. was all the rest of it good too? strange its one of my favorite animes but theres is no doubt it lost steam since it released i mean come on man nobody really talks about it anymore. to say its peak hasnt arrived yet is kinda off to me but idk like i said i havent seen all the extra stuff and movies so i could be wrong.

@@RageKage987 Akito the Exile wasn't bad and the movie was just okay. However, the movie and the new series are both based on an "alternate timeline", one which Lelouch didn't die. I'm not personally a fan of that idea. The ending was perfect with it's did he/didn't he, so they could've just come out and said that he didn't die and everything was a continuation. I HATE timeline crap.

Yeah like they said, it's actually coming back into popularity a bit recently! I live in Japan and I've seen a bunch of Geass stuff popping up this year, Lelouch and Suzaku got their own fashion line at Laforette lmao, I died when I happened to walk by the shop and a cardboard cutout of Lelouch was in there modeling Geass themed streetwear clothes 😂

Code Geass likes to use Chess a lot. It's mostly metaphorical, but this first game is actually very accurate. Chess experts have checked out the board state and confirmed that moving the King is the right move. It even explains why Lelouch smiled when the noble laughed. The fact that he couldn't see that Lelouch was making the exact correct move meant he couldn't counter his moves to win the game. That being said, it's also a metaphor in this story as well. Lelouch moves the King because "if the King doesn't lead how can he expect his subordinates to follow?"

Code Geass is definitely one of if not the best anime, I didn’t know that god agreed. I’d also recommend watching the dub, it’s a good dub but also because Code Geass is very info heavy. So it’s better to watch it dub so less info slips or you’ll be confused for half of the show or more. I can understand people who’d push you to react to the dub, there would be less people pulling out their hair.

Oh boy Code Geass! Okay so for this series, both the sub and dub are good (with only a few characters feeling miscast in both options imo). I'd say go with the dub since there's not many anime I would recommend a dub for. However, the sub will allow you to have a better understanding of the very complex story, since reading information is usually easier to comprehend than just hearing it.

Basically they moved from their homeland to live here and expand(basically similar to British colonies) The actual Japanese you saw were the one who lived in those destroyed buildings

oh, finally some more mecha series, I am so glad to see you enjoying it!!! Code Geass is really good series to start. And from what you said, if you enjoy a darker, more political and war focused sci-fi, then I feel like you would enjoy a lot of other mecha series, especially Gundam (heck, some Code Geass aspect seem to be very heavily inspired by Gundam series so if you'll find this series to your liking then deffintly consider getting into the Gundam itself, you would probably love it too ^^). This is finally a good enough incentive for me to follow you on patreon 😆
