I know that it is an extremely personal choice, Phil, but I would a hundred times rather have that farmhouse and its outbuildings than your chateau. What a beautiful place!

Not my cup of tea and renovations would be astronomical whereas the chateau has been done or finished to a certain degree, the work left on the chateau and maintenance is about 1/10 what the farmhouse and all the outbuildings would require of course it is what Phil has in his mind about his future plans

Phil, I hate to bring up the past, but you big chateau holds a lot of wonderful memories but you have been sort of sad since Annalisa left. I feel it might be time for you to make a change. The farm home and property is reasonably priced and a neat looking place with lots of possiblities. Good luck on your decision.

You could make that farmhouse really comfortable and the various outbuildings you could use instead of your workshop /garage. Close to the bar and not draining all your energy and time . Space around, no coypu and Lightning would love it. A fresh start with no sad memories is just what you need and then you can focus on your other interests. Don’t know if you watch ‘It’s a wonderful life’ vlog, but Peter and Anna traded a chateau for a small farmhouse with lots of outbuildings and a lake on a beautiful piece of rural France and absolutely love it.

I totally agree. It is obvious he is overwhelmed with all that needs doing there, and while he has somewhat adjusted to being single, the chateau holds too much sadness and he needs to walk away from it, and into a new place he can make his own. I hope he seriously considers it.

I also agree. The emotional attachment could linger for years. Would the same amount of effort and work being focused on a smaller project yield an even better more manageable space? He wouldn’t have to live there forever and can keep his eye open for the one that just screams at him, in the meantime. Think 5 years from now. Age. Ability. Building relationships as well as a gym a patio and a music room 😉

It's a lovely farm house from the outside. The land looks to be in good nick. The front garden, with a decent wall would make a very nice garden. I think it's wonderful. The project would be to finish the attic, create an addition out the back on the farm house like a conservatory. Also, take the other building and make it into an income property. 120k is cheap!

& it's not really a good place for One person! It's so much for one that it is overwhelming & easily out of control. If Phil had a few kids to help with the easy things & needed the numerous bedrooms & all of the outdoor room to run amuck, amuck, amuck, amuck (best part of that movie) But with just one person in command, it could get beyond the, just right size😢!

Phil, since you asked, I don't think this farmhouse is for you. From what I understand, you've always wanted to own a chateau and your place is truly magical. Yes, your dreams are allowed to change but it's too soon to get rid of such a wonderful place. I think your idea of making the chateau your own by getting rid of things you don't need, is spot on. If you finish clearing out the clutter and live in it for another year and still want to downsize, go for it. But right now, I think you'd regret it, unless the financial burden is too much by yourself. Good luck!
@judyklingborg9902
@judyklingborg9902 Месяц назад
Phil you must follow your heart. Give thought to taking care of yourself first and foremost. Sometimes less really is more...as in a smaller property. There will always be something to do, i cant imagine you would become bored. Best of luck in life.
@CynthiaBerry713
@CynthiaBerry713 Месяц назад
I think that smaller property would be perfect for you! You'd never run out of things to do, the goals you'd set would be way more easily attained, and while I love your chateau, you do still seem overwhelmed with all that it needs, and honestly, without help, which you never ask for, you'll never get it done. You wouldn't feel quite so overwhelmed with a smaller project like that one, and there'd still be so many things to do to keep you busy! You'd be able to walk to the bar...there's your health help lol...there's room for your outdoor events, and oh man, I see so much more potential there! I think you should seriously consider it!

I was on acreage for 25 years. Water views. Mountain views. The house started to need major timber wall work. I had accumulated a lot of stuff. I had to drive everywhere. I found a brick house in the local township with a garden waiting to be planted out. The house was solid. The sheds were fine. I could walk to shops, beach, pub. Guess where I've been for the last 6 months. Planning new decor, upgrading the kitchen. Loving it. But then I was excited when I saw it. Potential was what I saw. Once fixed up it won't need continual work. That property ticks a lot of those boxes. But you would have to secure a big chunk of that paddock to plant trees against road noise and keep the cows at a distance. EDIT ON SECOND VIEWING: do those cows walk up the farm track to be milked twice a day? How much traffic on the farm driveway? Walk inside. More than once.
@jeb3415
@jeb3415 Месяц назад
There is the potential to put his own stamp and vision on the grounds and any parcel he would purchase with it… to experiment. The chateau is already defined in that regard and he seems to be chasing after it, grounds wise. Tough decision.

(Cow💩 is easier to get used to than pig💩) but if it's viable buy the whole kit & kaboodle & one project can be digging a tunnel under the road and to each building. OR just build a bridge over the road. IF you bought the place & did happen to run out of things to modify, you could always build a moat! Start from scratch & sturdy it up enough to last 500 years😂!!! (Maybe put up signs & write on the plans "No Trees Planted Closer Than Here!!!" For all of the people who don't think ahead❤

Oh Phil, a chateau or a manor...you can do both, but seeing that manor available, closer to your pub, no coypu, less acres to mow, less expense, less rooms to redo, no need to entertain multitudes at your home in addition to your pub, less operational expense, more private living, less chance for mechanical failures for mowers and wood chippers because less yard work, it is almost a no brainer, AND the place is adorable...for one man...or maybe two...or three or four...and Lightning, too...The stone buildings look sound, no moisture encroaching, no moat needing to be drained and pumped out in the future at horrible expense, no coypu that still haunt the estate. Heaven knows you have worked yourself raw doing the million things, already, keeping the chateau and bird sanctuary as lovely as it is, but at what cost to your complete energy, alone?. I know, my whole yard is 50'x150' w/1-1/2 story house and the commitment is overwhelming, at times. A chateau, I'm sure, can be daunting. A handsome man such as yourself deserves the very best in the prime of his life. Do not hesitate to swap a chateau for a manor...It can be sexier to have more extra time to just sit and be...and with all you do for others and yourself, you deserve to just be for the next few years, my friend...That stone manor seems pretty sound...Consult good friends like Billy and the plaster man, now in England...and Nick...They'd give good advice AND help, too. You've helped them...Sounds like a gift from Heaven... use

Yes it is a nice property, yes it is closer to the pub. How will Lightning interact with the stock? How often do people drive along the lane? Would you find the smell off putting? You have a few projects on the go at the Chateau and you would have to decide if seeing those to their completion is important to you or would you be happy walking away from them. Questions you don't need to answer online but asking to prompt your thoughts. Do you need to sell the Chateau to buy it? What is the local market like? Would they both sit on the market for a while or sell quickly? If it is unlikely to move quickly why rush into making a decision? How long would it take to get power and water connected and how easy/hard would that be to do? Bottom line take your time. If it is meant to be it will still be there when you are ready to make the move. I find talking about things out loud helps my decision process, if that works for you, talk with your friends. Slow down, pause, there is no rush.

@marshawargo7238 Ryan only paid 19000 for his house, including all other fees.

Your hesitation says it all Phil. I think one of the main things for me would be the road to the farm diving your property.Too many unknowns as for who/ what/when access. I think it's too much of a leap. Something in between the chateau and this may suit . However wishing you all the very best whatever you decide.

I love it - BUT only if the access to the farm is closed off. I wouldn’t want tractors etc literally going through my property (and we are farmers).

Personally think its adorable and manageable, the price sounds amazing. I've only found your channel about four weeks ago. From what i catch from the odd snippets, you've recently had relationship problems. If it is recently its understandable your sad. I think the Chateau holds too many memories. On the practical side, the chateau looks too big to do on your own, look at the problems you've had this week, car, and two mowers. Perhaps three bad lucks have ended. Good luck with whatever you decide🇬🇧

Phil you could add value to the farm house and outbuildings , meanwhile the chatea could be turned into self contained holiday lets . The farmhouse does have neighbours for safety and they could look after your property while your away from home . There is a lot you could do to the farm including putting basic plumbing and electricity into the small outbuildings and rent them out as holiday lets and it's closer to town .

I repeat, what you have now. Maybe upgrade your mower and your wood chipper. This would make it easier for you to make it easier for you to maintain the property round. The chateau

What I didn't hear you say, was that if the chateau had a decent workshop on the grounds you would love it. Can you add a sympathetic building on your chateau's grounds to be that workshop?

There are many factors why a person would sell up and buy a different property, the decision has to be yours because you are the person that would be making this transition, I enjoy your journey wherever you are!

Well getting used to the beaty of the Chateau and make a move won't be ease, but insted make your own 'castle' even if it is a humble barn...with sparkling chandeliers 😉
