Good overall review. I disagree on driving in snow - I drive my 2017 Bolt EV in Minnesnowta, 3500 miles a month. I've never had trouble driving it in wet or snowy roads, and I've never got stuck. If snow scares you, just get winter tires - they give you grip. AWD doesn't add anything to grip, it's only useful after you get stuck. The key is to avoid getting stuck in the first place, and that's a combination of appropriate tires and driving skill.

not concerned with sexiness, i have 2 other vehicles for that. i need a good value commuter car thats not going to cost 50k with taxes, i need comfort and decent range. right now the bolt has very little competition in the local market. with tax incentives where i live the bolt is 20k cheaper than the tesla or the mustang. you know whats sexy? 20k less auto loan debt....

Agreed Jamie, my wife and I just paid off our debt - I use the Bolt EV for ride share among other things, and there isn't a better value in the market. I'm just over 140K miles and I've not had any major issues (got the first two battery recalls done). Sexy isn't a requirement for vehicles - I've owned a few BMWs in my younger, dumber days and fun as they were (E46, E90), eventually you get accustomed to it and feels like driving any other car. You get from here to there - that said, the Bolt EV is a very fun car to drive. I'd like a Tesla Model 3, but only if prices eventually drop.

I mean... Buy winter tires, for the winter. That's generally how folks deal with winter conditions, rather than han just deciding "this car can't do winter" we buy a set of winter tires. Granted in Canadian, but I'm pretty sure it's standard practice in new England as well.

Good review. Suits me because I live in the North East as well. I may disagree with you on the front wheel drive vs AWD. With the traction control on there should be no issues negotiating winter weather or wet weather. I always change to winter tires when winter comes. I can keep up with most AWD vehicles in acceleration. Especially older ones.

Ugh, yet again someone stating the infotainment screen is "bigger" when in fact both the old and the new have a 10.2" screen which is stated on the window sticker. The new one just doesn't cover up the large bezel around the edge of the "viewable" screen. Not harping on this, just helping point things out.
@DriveThemAll
@DriveThemAll 3 года назад
Chevrolet bills the infotainment system as "new". Turns out the screen size is the same but the guts and hardware are new. Thanks for setting me straight.

I bought a 2022 Bolt EV but have to say the Bolt just charges to slowly for it to compete with other brands especially when it comes to road trips.
@Tommy6860
@Tommy6860 3 года назад
I bought one as well over a month ago. I'm totaly fine with its charging rate. I wouldn't recommend using it on long road trips (I thought about that before buying it), but it works fine for my driving needs. I think people should seriously look into what they expectationa nd needs are before buy anything of high costs. The reason it's limited to 55kwr charging at its maximum is so the battery doesn;t get to hot, which leads to faster degradation of the battery's lifespan.

I would disagree about the tires. My 2017 had the stock tires until last month, they did break away on wet pavement under hard acceleration, but they handled ice and snow just fine. My complaint about the tires was whatever they used to make them self-sealing would freeze into a lump in really cold weather, and throw off the balance, making the car unpleasant to drive until it warmed up and redistributed its self more uniformly in the tire. My new tires are NOT self-sealing for that reason.
@DriveThemAll
@DriveThemAll 3 года назад
Very interesting! I would have never thought about that aspect of the self sealing tires. Thanks for letting us know. I'm still not sure I would feel comfortable driving a Bolt in a snow storm, however.

Thanks for the review. Looking at buying one of these now. Not interested in what Tesla has. Still on the fence though, as I love my Fiesta ST. We had some hail come through recently and some of these new Bolts are over $3,000 lower than MSRP. If the Fed credit was still a thing, I would buy one this weekend, as I still have another toy in the garage so I can my tech fix and my enthusiast fix.

You're welcome. Thanks for the comment. The Bolt is certainly a great fit for a lot of people and despite the battery issues- once they figure things out, the model will be a great value and more affordable than a Tesla.
@Tommy6860

So, sexiness is the standard for you? That's fine as an aesthetic cjhoice but most people do not have $50k to drop om an EV that has sex appeal. Also, most people are not going to buy a car to be attractive to them and esp to other people. You mention the Mustang EV which at its base cost pushes $50k and you could get that. Or you could go with the Ioniq 5 which at its base cot about $45k. If one is looking for sexiness in a car, I think it's safe to assume they have money to drop with no worries. If they are looking for practical use and decent operability, the 2022 Bolt works just fine without th worry of dropping huge sums of money on a car.
@DriveThemAll
@DriveThemAll 3 года назад
Sexiness is not the standard... But I, like most people, want a car they don't feel like a dork behind the wheel of.
@Tommy6860
@Tommy6860 3 года назад
@@DriveThemAll so you're worried abt how you'd look behind the wheel of a car? I guess that's up to the individual. But capitalists love that thinking as it markets shame if one feels like they're not making style choices that gives them some false vision of prestige, etc . IDGAF about looking good to others. I'm not in this world to be aesthetically pleasing to them. But that is me. I get like a color not being appealing, but to feel some sense of of what others would think of you is totally different.

I care a little bit about what other people think about my car, I used to care a lot, it's waste of money, better to put your money where it counts, even if it is other vanity purchases. Better to deal with insecurity more directly.

Your summation at the end is perfect. That's why I got one. 13K in rebates on my 2021 and it saves me 500 bucks a month on gas versus my Ford F150. Cheaper by far than the competition. It does what I need it to, but I don't love it at all.

Good video but left out quite a few things and a few of your points are just wrong. For example the 2022 models DO charge faster….just not a lot. They can charge up from 7 to 11 now. As for style the older models look FAR more sleek and sexy than this Blazer wannabe style they now have. You also didn’t mention about the stupid rear end light design and that’s a HUGE issue that needs to be fixed….especially the reverse light which is now way down in the middle of the bumper. Also there’s a new feature you didn’t mention. IT NOW HAS A WINDSHIELD FLUID SENSOR. Yes you read that right….the previous models for some INCREDIBLY STUPID REASON did not have that sensor. My 2019 Bolt LT didn’t and when I asked about it Chevy HQ told me they didn’t think it was Necessary to have ( morons! ) Also you were driving the 2LT model. Some countries are only allowed the 1LT model such as my country, Canada. Oh and as a Canadian this car does QUITE WELL in the snow as long as you have the proper tires….SNOW TIRES. No. All season tires are NOT good for snow no matter what anyone says. As I said….good video but some points were incorrect or incomplete.
@Rockin4D
@Rockin4D 2 года назад
From what i read the DC fast is the same rate of about 55k. I do like that up to 11k level 2 charge though. really handy if you find a sturdy enough level 2 station. Downside is alot of level 2 public places to charge seem limited to 6.6k.
@rp9674

Compared to Tesla because Tesla is a standard reference point and there's a limited selection of EVs. It would be a more direct comparison if there was a $30k Tesla hatchback, or a $40K high-performance Bolt. TeslaModel 2 does not exist.
