I dearly love Adele. Angelina Jordan's version somehow speaks more directly to me. It almost makes Adele's version seem clinical, while Angelina captures the wistful ache of the lyrics much more emotionally. No surprise really. She proved, at 7, that she was a song stylist to be reckoned with.

Adele is top tier, and for me Angelina puts the emotions that make you feel every phrase. Nobody better on the planet, and Thank you Adele for writing amazing songs, that Angelina can sing respectful of the artists she sings for. A win win for music lovers. Excellent review.

The biggest difference to me is the vulnerability Angelina's version portrays. She invokes the desire to actually "go easy" on her because she is vulnerable but still trying to do the right thing. I don't get that from Adele, who seems to be past that and moving on, while not really asking for anything. I really enjoyed this comparison and that surprised me. I don't usually like to make comparisons b/c they are so subjective. This one seemed to have a more objective valuation based on technique and style choices.

It is crystal clear that Angelina is a musical genius. Her interpretations, accents, tones, pace, and overall understanding of any song, hers, or someone elses.....are unmatched. This is not subjective, its absolute.

There are more colors to Angelina's voice than there are in the visible spectrum!

Andreas WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE REACTION !!!! I notice that I have already subscribed to your channel and I have no idea when and I don't remember you. Well, I won't forget you now! Let me preface my following comments by saying that comparing artists is not my cup of tea. Each artist performs with their distinct style and I may enjoy listening to one more than another. In this case, when asked which version do I enjoy the most, Angelina, hands down. You explained why to me but my opinion was based on the emotion Angelina added to the song. I was thrilled to hear your expert analysis of the differences in their styles. Adele is what, 29?, and is respected as perhaps the most famous singer in the world. And Angelina certainly respects her (particularly the music she writes!). Angelina is 16 now and in the industry she already has been given the unofficial label as a "singer's singer." Quite a compliment. And, Andreas (btw my next door neighbors name!), Angelina hasn't been officially marketed to the world yet (family decision) because she continues with her education for a while longer and, believe it or not, enjoy life as a teenage girl until the wraps are taken off and her career goes full blast. I don't know how many video's of Angelina you have reacted to but I would like to see and hear more from you about her. In fact, here's something I WOULD LOVE YOU TO REACT TO: There is a video of Angelina singing two versions of 'My Funny Valentine' on the same video. One is when she was 10 years old (2016) and the other most recently at 16 years old (2022). Andreas, the video was meant for you to react to. You'll see what I mean.

A good example of Angelina's higher register is her 2/14/22 release "My Funny Valentine". Her maturing voice shines with new and delicate colors. Her characteristic phrasing, vibrato and complex textures are wonderfully enhanced. IMHO the best rendition I've heard in my last 50 years.

I've made this comment before, but I find it amazing that Angelina released this video just 10 days after Adele released the track. 10 days to understand the song, develop her arrangement, work with Rob on the accompaniment, record, edit, and release this thing of beauty. Adele is a great songwriter, but Angelina is a master vocalist and we are impatiently awaiting the release of her first album.

I'm no professional or armature when it comes to music. What I can say is that if both tracks were available on the radio, I would switch to Angelina's cover. Her voice draws me in.

OMG! This was the best break-down of Angelina's vocals I have ever seen. The easiest subscription ever :-) In my opinion there has never been a shred of a doubt as to which voice I like more between the two. Angelina all day. I even liked Angelina's TikTok cover of this song better than the original, and she dropped that one just in a matter of HOURS after Adele dropped her single. That shows me (us? ) what of an incredible musical genius Angelina really is. I would really like to thank you for the time and effort you put into this, it's VERY much appreciated. I think you would LOVE to her her new rendition of "My Funny Valentine", which she dropped on Valentine's Day February 10th. Angelina turned 16 on January 10th, so she had probably just turned 16 at the time of recording. I say NEW rendition because she also made a rendition exactly 6 years earlier, at age 10. Listening to the two back to back shows you perfectly how she has developed. You can hear what she wanted to do at age 10, that her voice was just not yet capable of, but that she flawlessly and apparently effortlessly pulled off at age 16. What a wonderfully detailed comparative analysis. For me it is hands down Angelina who is better. I made a mashup of the two, and listening to them both over and over as I edited it it was very clear to me that Angelina had a richer, more varied and textured sound, but it was hard to put into words exactly what she was doing to achieve that. You have done so very, very well; thank you. One thing I would add is that Angelina often puts in little breaks, turning one syllable into two, and that's another bit of variation she gives to the song. You can really see how she makes use of her jazz roots.

Angelinas vocal palette contains more colors than with Adele, which also pushes the emotions of the song.

A perfect analysis of these different versions of this song. I don't understand why Angelina is said to sound like Adele. To me they sound very different. Yes! With respect to Adel, I found Angelina's version of " Easy On Me " better than Adel's! More meaningful, more deeper, more softer but darker, more effective and with much much better interpretation of the lyric. Her grandmother. Her muse. A fabulous artist in her own right. Jazz lover and started Angelina listening to it from a tiny infant. Angelina is considered a music savant. Her grandmother was also a child savant .. she was and still is an amazing painter. The outfit Angelina wore on AGT to sing Bohemian Rhapsody was made up of fabric made out of one of her grandmother's painting. She also taught Angelina to sew, by the way and she makes a lot of her clothes. Her grandmother just recently had to have an operation and it went ok .. but we got to see the fear in Angelina and the grief and passion she felt for her grandmother .. so this little piece before the song made us all cry. You've already indicated this, but I also feel that, ironically, Angelina expressed the meaning of the song better than Adele. The central line of the song is obviously "so go easy on me", which, in respect of those words, Angelina undoubtedly sang in a much lighter tone than Adele did. It's almost like Angelina "went easy" on her own vocal cords there in order to express that line; I like that idea/interpretation of hers. Without a doubt Angelina always looks for ways how to express every single word in a song, which is probably the most essential thing for being a vocalist and artist.

Angelina just re-imagined Elvis' "Suspicious Minds" into her own rendition (with nods to Elvis' red guitar, leather outfit and Presilla's beehive hairdo). You must react to it!

It's only my personal observation but I separate the two of them by my belief that one is a no-jazz singer of greatness, and the other a true jazz specialist. I don't believe it's possible for a non-jazz singer to ever bring forth as much emotional penetration to the human soul as Angelina does. Her 'vocal chameleon' ability allows her to capture the essence of Adele's voice, but then she goes into her jazz roots to Billie Holiday, where she brings forth the 'breathy', 'whisper like', sensual inflections that Billie was famous for. Not satisfied yet, Angelina now goes to the furthest, opposite end of the jazz spectrum where Amy Winehouse reigned as the most uniquely different jazz singer of all time. Here, she adopts the 'slurring' of words (for added effect), as well as Amy's style of radically changing 'key' in mid-sentence. The result is extraordinary, for it gives the listener what sounds like the voices of four superstar singers in one song. Have never heard another singer being able to do something this intricately complex.......ever!

What a great technical analysis of what it is that Angelina does to capture everyone’s heart with her singing. I’ve viewed many other reactions to this and other Angelina songs, but yours is the best I’ve seen so far, thank you for that. My summary of this song is Adele is a master to conceive and write the song, but Angelina is a genius at how to interpret it. As I’m no expert all I can say is Angelina’s voice speaks to me personally, I feel it not just hear it, it’s such a warm and intimate experience and most welcoming, like an old friend. I get the feeling she’s not deliberately doing all those things you mentioned, she just intuitively knows what to do, when and for what effect. In my opinion she is destined to become possibly the greatest female vocalist of all time, not because she’s technically superior, but because she conveys such emotion and touches your soul with her voice, it’s almost spiritual in nature. Wet eyes are hard to avoid when listening to her, and that’s a common viewpoint so all those thousands of people can’t be wrong! An exceptional artist of that there is no doubt! That may have been the best analysis of a singer I've ever heard. I thought both versions were beautiful, but I thought tha Angelina's fit the emotional point of the song better than Adele's version, and your analysis showed me step by step why. Sweet reaction, thanks..Yes it is Angelina's grandma, Mery, who as of this filming was recovering from cancer surgery. I appreciated Angelina showing us that she was doing well. The picture of them together is so emblematic of who Angelina is. Check out her original "Million Miles" written as an homage to Mery's husband shortly after he died. IMHO Angelina's masterpiece, so far, is "I'm Still Holding Out For You". The release of this piece is shrouded in mystery, but its impact as a soul, blues, pop ballad will become immense. Oh yes, she was 10 years old when it was recorded, and I dare you to keep your eyes closed through your first hearing.

Great analysis and comparison! I think the difference between the Adele's and Angelina's comes down to the phrase "I was just a child". For Adele that was years ago and she is having to recall something (perhaps quite) distant. She is singing the song as an adult with intention and determination. She is not really asking for forgiveness. Thus her very determined musical choices, which are more like telling the listener, "this is how it is". For Angelina, she is still a child, so it truly is a plea. I'm convinced that Angelina chooses songs which she can internalize and can create a personal narrative. Then she structures her musical choices around that.

As Angelina can make any cover her own and takes us on an emotional journey every time, she is a modern day vocal Picasso as she can sing any genre and any cover usually much more moving and enjoyable than the original every time for me.
