This video slaps and also thank you for reminding me of Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher, a book I have a lot of good vague memories of but could never successfully find via Google search 🥰

Saw the title of this video and was like, I hope it's about Bruce Coville. I loved Into the Land of the Unicorns. Also, I need to watch Intergalactic Degrassi immediately!

Great recommendations, thank you, will search up on these books in libraries! 😊 (As an it/its user, I think it's obviously not rude if one expressly asks to be called it. These pronouns were traditionally used for animals and babies in English, those whose sex/gender doesn't quite matter to people and I like that the most tbh 👀 A shame we don't have something similar in my first language.)

I read the first book in grade 6 and asked for the second for Christmas but didn't get it. I had long forgotten the name of the series and didn't know what to google to find it but I knew it immediately when I saw the thumbnail. Thanks for their amazing rediscovery of a book I loved so long ago!!

I recently rediscovered the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia Wrede and loving it. I read these books when I was like 12 and the stories have lived inside my heart ever since, even after I forgot most of the text.

I'd never read these books, but I do remember seeing (and regretfully skipping) Jeremy Thatcher. I will definitely check them out, they seem right up my alley! One of my favorite YA "Wasn't probably MEANT that way, but fun to read into it" things is identity in Animorphs... Ax (being an alien) also has an interesting relationship with gender, like Tar; and rereading the series as an adult opened my eyes to a lot of trans subtext, ESPECIALLY with Tobias. His desire to escape how people perceived him before, and stay free to choose his identity (Albeit as a red-tailed hawk) strikes me now that I'm older and a part of the LGBTQ+ community. Thanks for another great video! :D

Animorphs is one of those series that I desperately want to cover on here! It's so bonkers. I love that interpretation of Tobias, I'll have to think about it if I get around to rereading the whole series!

I would LOVE to see your take on Animorphs!!! Those books were such an influence on me growing up. I love that the modern fandom all seem to agree that Tobias is trans, but not, like, what direction? I've seen trans boy Tobias, I've seen trans girl egg (heh) Tobias, I've even seen a little bit of enby Tobias. (That's my personal favorite read, especially since he spends a lot of time hanging out with aliens.) The one thing everyone agrees on is _there is no way that bird is cis_.

rick riordan has made multiple comments saying that norse and greek mythology pagans are ‘ridiculous’ and things like that, which is frustrating considering how much money he has made from our religion.

i loved his books growing up, and the story still has a place in my heart, but i would never recommend them to anyone looking for something by an unproblematic author
@Rookiewompus
@Rookiewompus 2 года назад
My goal isn't to recommend unproblematic authors; I simply do not feel qualified or comfortable saying that an author is entirely beyond criticism. I'm sure most (all?) I recommended in this video are not. But I do appreciate your comment, if only to give others a better understanding of who they're choosing to support if they buy these books! If this is a problem for anyone else, I hope they look into it and can make an informed decision! In that vein, I should mention that I know Diane Duane has been very critical of religion in general and Christianity in particular, should that be an issue for anyone .

Keep in mind that there's many who do identify with it/it's, treating it as a neopronoun. It/it's rep is good even now.

A few things: 1) assuming I'm not misreading, I didn't know you were a fellow enby yooooooooooo 💛🤍💜🖤 2) I loved Coville as a kid, although I only read the first book of this series. Didn't know he was bi, that's incredibly awesome. 3) explicitly queer SF YA recommendation: the Sidekick Squad books by C.B. Lee, starting with Not Your Sidekick. Cool dystopian superhero action, bi and ace and aro and trans representation amongst the main character quartet, and the literal only example of the word "queerplatonic" I've ever seen in published fiction. (I'm so hype for the fourth and final book omgggg)
