This style of bike is what I have changed my Gravel Bike too, as I found the Gravel bike to harsh on the front when going down bumpy tracks. Added bar ends for riding on the road and climbing out of saddle. If this had been around when I got the Gravel bike this would have been the bike I bought. My bike now definitely looks like a dreaded Hybrid bike, but who cares, it's faster on the road than my Mountain Bike and handle more of the rough than my road bike.

I've not been interested in flat bar gravel bikes in the past. However, I am in between sizes in my gravel bike, to counter that I have put a shorter stem (70mm from 100mm) on it. One of the things I love about that is that my bar feel a lot more stable when I'm climbing out of the saddle, pulling up on my bars. I reckon the short stem on this bike would give more control too. Whatever you call it, it looks fun!

Add a dropper and you got the full meal deal. The dropper on my Diverge is the shiznit - thought a bit more travel in it would be cool. The stem shock it came with is cool too, but I think I'd prefer a Lauf shock or what your Marin is sporting.

@@DaveNoakes a friend has a gravel bike with suspension (front) it’s really quite good. Don’t get me wrong it doesn’t mean that it can keep up with a MTB on the technical stuff, but does seem to take the edge of things.

It's a HybRAD - a hybrid aimed mainly at gravel and singletrack rather than commuting. I'm planning on building something similar from a spare steel frame I have, to sit between my gravel bike and trail bike.

To me it looks suspiciously like a bicycle, that just needs to be ridden and enjoyed. I've an old mid nineties mtb for comparison and there's a fair few differences😁👍

I like it Dave. I dislike dropped bars on gravel bikes so this one with a fork would be perfect for when I don't need my full suspension MTB

A perfect all rounder for the vast majority of cyclists - a lot of competition from Boardman for this type of bike although I love my Trek Marlin 7!

Hey, Dave. I'm a bit late to this video. I ordered the DSX2 based in the Marin size chart. It ended up being way too small and isn't available in large until September. The DSX FS is currently available. I intend on doing some gravel races and was wondering if the fork added considerable weight? I'm not a weight weenie, but also don't want a dramatic increase. Also, I am a little unsettled about a Suntour fork. I know you could race it, but would you? Would I be better off getting a Team Marin 2 and tossing narrower tires on for gravel events and return mtb tires for mtb events? Thanks bud.

It's an XC mountain bike, that brands are probably struggling to sell after years of MTB pushing what XC riding is, and the increasing technical nature of riding turning into enduro, to the point where a full suss is pretty much mandatory.But yeah, who cares. It's great to see so many bikes that cross between different riding styles, because it either means people can get something specific to what they do, or hopefully they'll realise that they can do a lot more varied riding than they thought possible on one bike.

Nice looking bike, though I’d like something colourful, not black. Plus it’d be better (for me) if it had riser bars. Perhaps you could get Marin to give you some sus forks for the gravel bike.

alright Dave, nice photoshot and bike. Is todays flat bar gravel bike just last years hybrid bike renamed to make it trendy? why do hybrids have a bad rep anyway? Flat bars make more sense off road (IMO), looks like its got a decent endurance frame rather than commuter geometry and so long as it has clearence for big tires and winter mud...its all good? Its a bike, go ride it and have fun and dont give a hoot about what anyone says you should and should not do on it! its a hybrid flat bar gravel bike that could probably have a bash at non technical xc = fun!!

OK… the circle is complete now. It IS an old school XC MTB… or a hybrid with a suspension fork. Not a bike I would buy at the moment, but certainly a bike that would suit a great deal of people. It does look fun.

I like to know the labels, basically I want to know if it’s a road gravel, or a mtb gravel . Given I have to travel 15 miles on road before I get to the fluff stuff, I want to get there as fast and efficiently as possible.. also can I easily do centry rides on it like a road bike I d want a flat bar road bikes and put gravel tyres on it

I’m confused now is it a hard trail mtb or a really nice flat bar gravel bike that will be so much easier to control of road than a dropped bar gravel bike it’s just so confusing lol it’s like do I need a gravel bike or a mtb ? Think I need both lol

After a year on the base dsx model (no suss fork), I'd say, it's def not a mountain bike, so yeah, as marin markets it, I'd call it a flat bar gravel. And for me at least, I think it serves that purpose well enough, especially for the price. It's a good little bike that's fun to ride on gravel and pavement.

No idea what "type" of bike it is... it's a bike... looks like it would ride well! I know for me I miss drop bars when I ride flats... banging bike all in all. Glad to hear it's fun to ride, that's all that really matters! :)

I honestly didn’t think I’d like it…i wouldn’t say it’s more fun than my drop bar gravel bike but it’s definitely a heap of fun. Needs wider bars and bigger tyres though.

I’m certainly not going to argue with you about what I name my videos. Calling my video “marin dsx fs what is this?” Didn’t work as well for me so as it’s my channel I picked a title I preferred.
