1) Form a team, bro! I got like 11-12 guys down here in the DC area to form a team. It will be a learning experience and will likely help you, especially if you get some guys who know how to race. I am super pumped for racing this coming season - it's a huge motivation for me to be accountable to others also. 2) Longer videos only if it will help in terms of race analysis etc. 3) That guy who got ragdolled in the final sprint, I hope he is okay and the other guys too. That looked like a nasty impact with the ground. Don't know why it happened, but it seems like they were sprinting for like 20th place. 4) You can delay moving up a little bit or you can move up when you did, but don't hit the front too soon. 200-400m is a very long stretch of road lol

Patience, man. Patience. Don't go to the front too early if you can't sustain that. You don't have the motor to solo off the front and you're not a snap power sprinter either. It is what it is. You can't do what is not your strength. Like many of us, we have the ability somewhere in the middle. We're not sprinters nor are we time trial motors. I only won one race and it was by attacking early (in a road race) and hoping others came with me but not the whole field. To form a break I had to be willing to blow up and get dropped in hopes of a break forming. Often we'd get chased and I'd be just another pack finisher. So be it. I did get into a couple of breaks that stuck though and got 6th in a masters race of over 60 people and I won the other. I don't care how many pack finishes or DNFs I got otherwise. Those two races were awesome, especially hearing my wife and daughters screaming for me when I finally crossed the line first. Jens Voigt is a classic example. Be willing to come in last to have a chance to come in first. But for guys like us, that will not come in a field sprint. Make the race go the way you need it to go, or just roll in safely to try again another day. Good luck. Don't give up.

@@ClaudioMarquez Some guy just elbowed me into the back of this other guy wheel. Was able to put together a bike that same night and come back the next day! I didn’t do the cat 3/4 race. Just the junior race.

crashes are a big reason why i've stepped away from racing for a while. Crash and separate my shoulder the first race of the season plus about $1,500 in damages to the bike, then 2 races later crashing and separating my shoulder again and causing even more damage to the bike. my job is physical and breaking my body and wallet for kids sprinting for 35th place in the 3/4 field just isn't worth it for me. You on the other hand raced GREAT here. You were in prime position on the last lap. You will FOR SURE see some podiums next year!

I love how far you've come. It's great to see you talking about podiums in 2024. Getting there is where this all gets really interesting. Others have suggested this but I think you would benefit enormously from teaming up with a few guys. Whether you wear the same jersey or not doesn't matter. 3-5 solo riders who know one another and are willing to work together can 100% win. Hell, sometime it's better because when one of you goes off the front and another blocks (or counters when he's caught) it doesn't look as obviously coordinated. And that's before we talk about how much easier sprinting can be with a train as small as 1-2 guys guiding you to 200 meters. Last thing I'll say (old guy yelling at a cloud) - NOBODY should be sprinting for any place above about 15th. Nothing good can come of it.

20-30 mins if good (IMHO). Love watching your analysis vids man, thanks for making them! The production quality with the front and rear views, the data overlay, and your face in the vid reviews is top-notch! IMHO you have a lot of fitness, but you went too early in this race. Best of luck on the podium! Hope the guys who crashed are ok.....

@14:29 you need to be either a part of the swarm/surge up the inside which was a completely expected acceleration to see or you need to be able to go with it. Either way, you need to know it's coming and being second wheel is too far up to avoid being jumped by the swarm.

Claudio, fitness miles fitness speed miles fitness weights miles more speed. But you have a coach don't you. Can I quote Clint " a man's got to know his limitations ". Either work inside one's limitations or do lots and lots of work to try and expand them ( with no guarantees - that's potentially a big price to pay!) Enjoy. I enjoy your journey. Happy festive season. Here's to 10k.

I have been watching you from the start, and I think the one thing you miss the most is the Will To Win!! You need to take your chances built on your strengths earlier in the race. Take a flyer earlier, something, because it doesn't seem like sprinting is your thing. Find someone before the race who has the same attributes and maybe y'all can work together, just a thought!! Good Luck and keep the videos coming!!

I concur here. I'd say at least 50% of racers "give up" before they are actually physically done within the final couple laps.

Cat 2s are still developing and learning. Most don't know how to race well, their handling skills, decision making and positioning are still lacking.

Good race...last two laps it is super important to find a good wheel. During the race watch others and you can tell over time who that is. Or of course if you had a team mate for leadout. I am 56 and still don't race masters much. The issue with masters is many times it is all the categories, so you could be in with come Cat2's also.

Master's racers are not going to be doing crazy dumb stuff. They are thinking a few things, I got to go to work, It's going to take a long time to recovery (if I crash) as I am older, I am not going to risk my health for a podium that at the end of the day really doesn't make that much difference one way or the other. Long story short, they want to win; however, aren't willing to risk their health like the young guys will/do!

Stop worrying about your hr in a race. Create a race screen on your Garmin that only shows speed time and distance. Your body will tell you to stop way past where you will hurt yourself. You were in good position in the end . Push past that oh my hr is too high… that is all you need to do. As an athlete your max hr will decline very slowly. I am 52 and my hr regularly still hits high 190’s. You can do it
